So I've noticed something about the Ixalan spoilers. Over 60 normal rares have been spoiled. 62 to be exact (unless I miscounted somewhere).

I don't recall any set ever having that many before. Not ever. Big sets used to have about 50 and small sets had 35.

Why is wizards doing this? Increasing the number of rares is not good set design.

The joke is a combination of the old flavor text of pacifism, and the fact that a healthy portion of /tg/ is hoping Jace dies (in vain) and are transposing that joke onto Vraska in the idea that she wants him to be dead as much as they do.

Hence, she gets a warm and fuzzy feeling inside after seeing Jace fall off of a waterfall.

Sorin and Ugin guilted her into fucking her home plane on the condition they'd always be there to help her. When the time came Ugin was dead and Sorin couldn't be arsed, because she wasn't satisfied with that answer he banished her to hell.

In return Nahiri locked him in stone and fucked his planet as hard as he'd fucked hers. Petty? Yes. But Sorin did the exact same things to her first. In Sorin's defence he did try to help but Nissa went and fucked it and Sorin concluded Zendikar deserves everything it gets.

Tldr: Nahiri is a villain but she's only copying Sorin.

That's the point. It's ornate and decorative. Other than the aesthetic of the Sun Empire having silver armor and the Legion of Dusk having gold armor, that's one way they sort of balanced the historic "imbalance" between the two, by giving the natives better metal.
>>
>>55391100
>>55391029
>>55391083
People tend to define 'sexy' as something sexually appealing, usually through attractive sexual features that are relatively exposed to the viewer's gaze. As such, the extremely covered up vampires of Ixalan are not sexy if you go by that definition, even if you find them aesthetically appealing.

As such, his focus on 'sexy' women is likely a focus on women with exposed cleavage, midriffs, thighs and other parts of the female body that are considered sexual attractive, which there has been a significant lack of as of late. Although the Ixalan vampires are not sexy, they may certainly be considered attractive, although that is subjective.

I know people use the Eldrazi incident against Nissa, but seriously, look at how Sorin acts in that scene.

>Sorin: So Nissa, I know I refrained from telling you I'm a vampire while insisting you trust me, and Anowon, I know I kinda murdered everyone you brought on this trip for the hell of it, and I know I've treated you both with contempt for the past month we've been traveling together, but you've gotta help me fix the seal on the Eldrazi.
>Anowon: If the Eldrazi want to get free so bad, won't they just... leave if we break the seal?
>Sorin: No. Don't ever suggest that again or I'll kill you.
>Nissa: Wait, would that seriously work?
>Sorin: Dammit guys, now I've gotta use magic to suffocate you both and leave you to die.
>Nissa: Holy shit Sorin what the fuck. I'm breaking the seal before you kill me.
>Sorin: Why does no-one ever trust me??

You know you're talking about a set that has feathers and literally every kind of ancient animal people typically refer to as "dinosaurs" right? Scientific accuracy of gold as a metal for this purpose is so far removed from their priorities that it's almost absurd to even talk about it. We don't even know if it's actually literally gold and not some kind of amalgam or something, in the same way the Sun Empire has steel A) because it's a superior metal and B) because it LOOKS silver which there are lore and aesthetic reasons for wanting to have.

The only description used for the metal of the swords is 'steel.' Nowhere is 'gold' written. It is simply 'steel.' Point out where the equipment used by vampires has been labelled as 'gold' in any of the articles, blogs, interviews or panels we've seen so far.

The problem with that is that all of those are subjective. "Cool" can be badass ogres and stuff smashing walls, but that can be seen as edgelord garbage. "Sexy" can be women in positions of power wearing armor and killing things, or it could be women scantily clad- doing just about anything. "beautiful" could be old art only and non-digital, but some people don't like their art to look like high-school watercolor in 2017.

Personally, I would like a practical balance. Most cards are mundane or "cool", the most beautiful art used for either mythic or, hurts to say, pre-designed tournament staples. Also, a sexy card or two in each set would not be the end of the world; I don't mind the prudish majority of female representation in mtg, but to be completely depraved of a little boobage in my fantasy game is too extreme.
>>
>>55391758
Distinct from the Mesoamericans of reality in that they managed to develop steel, rather than distinct from the Legion of Dusk. In fact, they put a great deal of effort into mentioning how the Legion of Dusk and the Sun Empire are technologically equal, which means they both likely produce and use steel. And when I say steel, I mean steel as in steel and not steel as in any metal, as that apparently needs to be mentioned these days.
>>
>>55391773
God that art looks awful.
>>
>>55391778
Being equal doesn't mean you have to have access to the same things. You can be made equal in other ways. They also even said the Legion may even be slightly less "powerful" than the Empire so there's also that. The point they were trying to make was that the spanish were massively more technologically advanced and that gap is cleared here.

nit-picky but if they wanted the KANG to be the alluring focus of this piece so much that they literally blurred out the background by leaving it un-detailed, they could have at least fully committed and left no nook/cranny on his person fully fleshed out. Its not flat. The shading and outline gives a very clear sense of shape, especially when contrasted with the light color of the background making it pop out. Probably intentionally so as compositionally it makes sense to go from his face to his hand here. Like... do you even know what you're talking about or what? Like I said depicting a gay pirate isn't a reflection of the technical skill making it bad or ugly art, no matter how much it upsets you.

First of all archive that shit, I regret looking it up.

However since I was there I read all of it, the argument was extremely weak and bias. The arguments of the BFZ art was the following was sexist:
>fish women wear tight clothing (makes sense swimmer do it too, can't swim in baggy clothing)
>Women have Thigh Gap (these women live in the jungle, you have to be fit, fit women have a thigh gap)
>Kor women was getting her clothing blown off (in reality the kor, herself was being blown into dust)
>Korra has tits (yeah those fish people sure love to cover head too toe, must be a fan of a burka beach)
>Women had a warp for a top (This is a real thing women have done all thru out history, main those working in the fields, so of course a warrior in the jungle would wear a wrap)
>complains about women in BfZ having thin legs (yes, they do, cause they dont sit on Tumblr all day eating 2 boxes of smuckers uncrustables)

I read some more shit the whole site is borderline childish, no solid arguments were made and they delete bad comments and replace them with lefty pol level memes. Also too much obsession with breast in fantasy, it's extremely clear the writer has real envy of healthy or attractive women.

This shit was on the same level as the race baiting retard in my pic.

What? Look at how majestic this fucker looks. Gigantic, sun glowing behind him, glowing skin and muscles.

I don't think you've given these guys a shot. But eh, it is subjective.

The Amonkhet "angels" resemble constructs more than male angels. The forms are a bit lankey and I think anon wants a simple design like Thor with wings and a sword.

>So while I realize that the plural of anecdote is not data, it’s something that has bothered me sufficiently that I thought it would be worth taking a look at what Magic has been up to recently that has been getting under my skin.

Eh. They conceded this stuff was more or less nonsense. Also, a feminist blog on Wordpress is probably the most ridiculous thing to ever seek out when it comes to understanding marketing.

But yeah, this whole thing was making some fair points but missing the fact that these were established characters being depicted and changing their iconic appearance would be fucking it up. Unlike DND which is random weirdos in every art.

I see where you're coming from. But imagine Garruk, silk loincloth, rippling form, descending from the heavens on his spread wings. That's a human depiction of strength and confidence.

In contrast the Amonkhet angels kinda look like lanky statues. They are beings that exist, but they lack that human feature that I want out of angels. Reflections of a divine and perfect self.

>>55393189
Thor with wings works well.
>>
>>55390963
Beautiful is aesthetically pleasing.
Sexy is erotically enticing.
You can be both, but you can also be sexy without being beautiful or beautiful without being sexy.

Catholic vampis are beautiful and WotC fucked up if they want them to be villains because people, specially normalfags, are more willing to side with beautiful people than with "diverse" uggos.
>>
>>55391545
those were better days
>>
>>55391276
That's kinda creepy.
>>
>>55393213
Something like that would be fucking blasted today by fans If it were a card dude. And a drawing is a drawing but magic artist scene is different from western and Eastern comics and animation scenes and its stupid to compare the two to gain and understanding of what makes a good painting.

/tg/ is shit when discussing art. They can't tell the difference half the time when something is digital or traditional.
>>
>>55393283
Gotcha. I assume this is because people have a hard time making the kind of rough beefy guy dignified the way they are careful to do with Angels.

Well, that and the fact that they had a very strict reason for making Bolas's angels look as evil as they look.
>>
>>55393329
Medium doesn't really matter to me.
>>
>>55393350
It shouldn't but /tg/ cries and bitches about how digital art is ruining the game's art when it isn't. Bad artists and inexperienced artists are, it's not the tools.
>>
>>55389954
They are magical cannons apparently.
Also, reminder that Kaladesh had some !laserguns.
>>
>>55393287
I don't think they wanted them to be villains. They've been pretty consistent lately in making their real villains extraplanar aberrations.

And I was being kind of absurd in that comment, but perfect, porcelain-skinned Spanish noblewomen in the throes of barely-contained religio-carnal ecstasy are also pretty fucking erotic. Your average elves or Kor might not be sexy in those outfits, but these vampires, with the most minimal appreciation of the fluff, are.
>>
>>55391566
I'd fire Dawn Murin and all the SJW artists. And remove PR from the creative meetings.
Then I'd beg Guay, Walker, Post, Brom and Gregory to come back.

Cool, beautiful and sexy can co-exist in perfect harmony, but neither can survive where politics and corporate matter more than aesthetics.
>>
>>55391847
There's bare female skin.
>>
>>55393422
I'd say the reason some of those artists don't work for wizards anymore is because the pay for magic art is pretty garbage for illustrators trying to make a living. Especially for traditional artists. Probably why digital art is so dominant on cards now.
>>
>>55389790
>2R Tap

God damn it. They couldn't just make it lightning bolt on s stick could they? I refuse to use this card just because of that.

why
>>
>>55392024
Hispanics do.
You white ass can go whine in a corner about the injustices of colonialism while the descendants of conquerors and emperors play with painted cardboard. Surely your "solidarity" for their poor opressed selves will be noted.
>>
>>55393506
R Tap would of been fucking fine. Three spells in a turn after turn four is a steep cost. That means your holding back and giving the agro player 4 turns to beat your face in with little in the way disrupting them.

Also its fucking called enchantment removal. It should be fucking in every deck on principle. "Oh hey they jusat played Blasting Cannons for 4 let me spend 2 or 3 mana to remove it butting me at advantage mana wise"
>>
>>55392613
Banana Man is hideous, gets a 0 on the homo-boner scale from me. I'm more interested in his chair and nutritious side-dishes than his emaciated ass

>>
>>55393095

>>
>>55393571
I could definitely see an evolution of Ramunap that uses a super low curve and card draw to pop it off consistently.
Also I think you're forgetting what the enchantment does, it's an extra card you can cast.
>>
>>55393596
He's totally made for women. Muscular but not bulky, confident but passive posture, kinda feminine features: perfect weirdo-pretty-boy.

Also I only just now noticed his banana table is a zombie.
>>
>>55393636
>it's an extra card you can cast.

I know that but you still got to pay for it. Yeah they could play super low but in this set with the Dino's and rampage AND Vamps with their token spam and flying lifelink I don't think a low curve red is going to go very well. Vamps wont give a flying fuck if you bolt one of their many tokens and will out heal a bolt to the face. Big dinos will laugh at you as you activate rampage or kill you faster than you can bolt them to the face because its a legendary land.
>>
>>55393422
>Then I'd beg Guay, Walker, Post, Brom and Gregory to come back.
absolute top tier patrician taste
>>
>>55393571
>R Tap would of been fucking fine.
No it wouldn't. Doesn't matter if you have to flip it first, that shit would be retardedly broken.
>>
>>55393692
>I know that but you still got to pay for it.
Which is why I mentioned a super low curve.
>but in this set with the Dino's and rampage AND Vamps with their token spam and flying lifelink
I don't think these things are going to see much constructed play, were you talking about draft?
If it was a draft-only thing, I think dropping the cost to 1R would be fair.
>>
>>55393088
>the whole site is borderline childish
>no solid arguments were made
>it's extremely clear the writer has real envy of healthy or attractive women.
No shit Sherlock. Companies (and industries in general) where attractive women are the majority of female employees coincidentially tend to be less involved in feminist bullshit and have better performance than the ones filled with uggos who spend your company time and copy machine toner harassing their coworkers about "micro-agressions".
>>
>>55393620
To be honest, I tgink this is s cool piece of art, but it kinda bugs me how ezplicitly a black dude was used to model this compared to the other Amonkhrt angels who are dark skinned but don't appear especially black to me. This guy doesn't even really look like a construct like the others.
>>
>>55393213
>>55393068
As a sidenote, Magic can only hope to have art like this.
>>55393329
>Something like that would be fucking blasted today by fans If it were a card
Why?

Magic used to have art you could find on the cover of metal vinyls, nowadays it looks more like deviantart shit.
>>
>>55393596
I'm pretty sure you don't understand anything about what women want.
>>
>>55393457
They pay the same as other editorials, but they have become much more tedious and corporate to work with in the past years. That's why Mohrbacher left: PR supplanting AD faculties and making him change shit way past the sketching phase with no compensation, and Ultra-Pro banning him from making products of his own with the art for Erebos.

If it wasn't for such practices, WotC would still be one of the best places to work for as a freelance artist.
>>
>>55393571
To be honest, three spells is holding on to exactly one thing and then getting a spell on both the exile-draw and your regular draw, and if you don't get that play shit.
Not saying the card is good. Just that the three-spells isn't that hard to do when it's helping you achieve that itself. Lot of single changes could've helped made it good, but as-is not so much.
Also, backside is the best burnland outside Valakut itself.
>>
>>55393776
Shrunken onto a card all the pointillism would disappear and it was just look like an incomplete white sketch in a colorful order.
>>
>>55393718
>that shit would be retardedly broken.

You are the reason MTG is the low power shit fest that it is. You are literally whats wrong with MTG.
>>
>>55394018
As it is? Or as it is currently? What are you comparing it against?

Anyway, this shit hits creatures. My only complaint is it doesn't let you play lands, everything else is fairly costed.
>>
The flip sides of all these cards look ugly as fuck to me.

It's that same damned SJW diversity hire chick they added as a graphic designer within R&D. Making the Amonkhet Invocation nonsense and now this. She has to go.

That would be decent. I hate the physical requirements of dfcs and I have to acquire two of each one I employ; one to have in the deck because the proxy card is hideous and one to use as a flipper in a clear sleeve. But now the card backs are pokemon-tier ridiculous and I have a hard time seeing using them at all.
