What kind of giants would you want to play? When making the thread I was thinking of the Trolls from The Hobbit animated film. I always felt like they were an actual family and had real life goals and aspirations. They were just big people.

I like the idea of giants being almost deific figures, and not necessarily being born but rather growing into their immense size and strength. As such, it would be entirely possible for any hero, given enough time, power, and badassery, to become a giant naturally.

This generally means two things for such a setting, 1st it means that the kings and legendary men of the world tend to be giants, and 2nd it means that the giants you encounter will not be dumb animalistic brutes, but intelligent and wise creatures who exude an aura of magnificence much like a demi-god. However, wisdom and intelligence does not equal morality, and unfortunately evil is an easy way to gain power, so expect a moderate majority (say 60-70%) of the giants you encounter to be evil. Unfortunately this means that the heroic and neutral giants also tend to be viewed as evil, and as such don't interact much with human society, which just reinforces the stereotype.

Finally, giants usually don't have to worry about such petty things like food or physics. Even the most magically inept giants will at least have attained the magical equipment to maintain their body through magic's power alone.

Giants that are just giant people are really boring IMO, whats the point of making them a different kind of being if they are just upscaled humans?

I think its better when they have thei own distinct features that make them unique, so that even if they were shrinked down you could tell they are not human, kinda like stone and cloud giants in D&D, they are really close to humans but there are a lot of tiny details that make them eerily different

I think it'd be a neat idea of borrow some ideas from Engine Heart in that your stats show how well you can navigate and understand your world in a non-standard body. So as a giant you're probably pretty dumb, large, very clumsy, and very greedy, and if we're sticking with the theme of being eager to interact with the small folk while still being harbingers of destruction the idea that if you fuck up you might crush a guy or fuck up a request might be cool.

This guy, I actually made a giant class if people are interested in it.
I aimed to have it able to keep up in a party with wizards and clerics, so hopefully its around low tier 2 or high tier 3. Not actually a wizard, but still able to have fun in an optimized game.

As for thematics, I like the idea of giants being the still noble but made of earth and elements children of primordial titans. Then they have progressively weaker and more degenerative children until you have stupid monsters like ogres and ettins. Hill giants are the lowest of the true giants, and cloud or storm giants are the greatest.

There was work on a setting that might suit this thread. Check out sup/tg/ for it.

Basically, Giants were attached to a city, the bigger it got, the more their size and power grew. Fighting other monsters and giants was an important aspect of it.

Anyways, I think Giants would actually work better in a Science Fiction setting

Mecha would make it easier to work/live with Literal Giants. Imagine operating something like an Asimo on some alien world, maybe a water world with Giant Cetacean people where you work in the dangerous areas, or maybe you are a Technician that fixes all the little electronics that break on some Giant space colony.
