>magic sword
>one micron thick

How dangerous would this be?
>>
>magic
depends on the setting
>>
>>55375228
Assuming 'magic' means that it won't break, then very, very dangerous. You're effectively delivering all the force of your blow to an area one micron wide, which would be very bad indeed. That said, it wouldn't carry anywhere near as much weight as a real sword, so the actual force of the blow would be less; you might therefore struggle to cut through anything very thick because the blade would gain ~0 momentum.

Basically, it would work much better as a cheesewire than a sword, but it'd still be pretty nasty in certain situations.
>>
>>55375228
Anon, are you trying to tell us something?
>>
>>55375319
why wouldn't the sword be excellent at keeping momentum, as long as you had a considerable weight behind it?

like a big long broad ass blade
>>
>>55375228

The Cutting Hair
>>
>>55375228

It's magic so you can make it as dangerous as you want.
>>

>>55375228
Does if have anything to do with something that rimes with benis?
>>
>>55375639
Because one micron is basically zero, and zero multiplied by anything is still gonna be zero. If the sword gets wider in the middle, it might work, but then it's only one micron thick in the vaguest sense.
>>
>>55375228
Look up monofilament whips from shadowrun
>>
>>55375228

Paper Cut
>>
>>55375776
I thought the OP implied the edge was 1 micron, at least that's how I interpreted it
>>
>>55375794

>he doesn't have a monofilament launcher
>>
>>55375319
The sword could have the mass of a thicker sword if it was very dense.
>>
>>55375639
>>55375319
>>55375279
>>55375228

I would have to be unbreakable.

One micron is so thin it would break if you swing it, it couldn't handle the force.

It would be like that glass needle in that Sherlock movie.
>>
>>55375776
Basically zero is not zero if you're going to multiply. .0000~1 will still have mass no matter how small. It is not so insignificant to be discounted entirely.
>>
>>55375815
then its just a standard sword, 1 micron isnt very small in the scheme of things
>>
>>55376566
Compared to the force of friction against the edges of the blade, it will be.
>>
>>55375228
if the blade is also 1 micro wide, and unbreakable then very. there would be very little shear and normal opposing force to stop you from putting it where you want, so it would cut through almost anything with ease. you would have to get used to cutting people to steep angles relative to gravity though, so they would slide apart, other wise the body might just heal those wounds really fast
>>
>>55375794
Or variable swords in Ringworld rpg/ novels.
>>
Would it cut or just pass through atoms?
>>
>>55376959
Look up what "micron" means.

One micron thick you say?
>>
>>55375228

about as dangerous as a lightsaber, probably
>>
>>55375823
>laughing_warp_spiders.jpeg
>>
>>55375228
Look up the redguard disaster.
>>
>>55375228
>only one micron thick
>not also weighted to a regular sword's mass

It's basically a blade of grass. You are attacking with a blade of grass..
*Flop*
>>
>>55375319
>~0 momentum
Not if it's neutronium in a stasis field
>>
>>55375319
With one micron I think just the weight of your arm should be enough to slice any known matter.
>>
What if this ultra-thin, unbreakable sword had a big ol' ball of steel on the end to provide some weight? Then would it work?

>not cutting atoms with your sword
who needs magic when you can just nuke everything
>>
if you are implying it would be hard enough and indestructible then it would be dangerous enough that no one would want to use it
