Doesn't help that his quality of work was degrading towards the end, either because of the Alzheimer's or because he (or his editor) were rushing to get the books out. Snuff and Raising Steam were disappointing on some level to most of his long-time fans, even if relatively enjoyable overall. Imagine how disappointing we'd find them if they had been assembled after his death by someone else.
