Any fellow Gx Tronfags running Emrakul, the Promised End? I initially ran her for kicks but after awhile I realized I really liked her - I've found that she performs admirably against combo and control (both of which were prevalent in my local meta up until a month ago), and is at the very least serviceable as another hard-to-deal-with fatty in other matchups.

I don't want to scoop to Chalice and I know that White has useful birds, also Birds of Paradise is a card. Although I admit Psionic Blast looks surprisingly useful and I do like the idea of playing a non-Red burn spell as a gotcha card.

Need some opinions. Thinking of doing some altered art cards. Mostly as a source of money for this hobby. I'm mostly looking to see what the general opinion on altered art cards is, how easy it would be to actually sell them, and what would be good staple cards to do.

I'm planning on mostly doing them in the style of pic related, with more or less detail. Mostly just pen and ink style since it seems like the most fun for me. I might also do some border extensions with paint as well. The first test set I was thinking of doing was a set of basic lands. Just taking a full art, erasing the middle and doing some black and white illustration.

I'd also be following wizards rules for league alters. So cant cover up the name, cost, rules text, and p/t. The art also has to be relatively close to the original as well so that its recognizable. So if its goblin guide it should have a goblin on it.

That one above is a random one off of google. I'm decent enough to do relatively similar though. Pic related are some of my early unfinished alters from before I quit. They're not done and there's a few mistakes I could have fixed, but they're from a couple years ago.

The set of pens I was looking at comes with a number of acrylic based pens. I would like to pic them up but its like $80 for a decent set. I'd like to start with B&W to see if I can actually move them before diving into it. I'm also putting together burn so I don't have a ton of money to invest into other things. Let alone things that might not actually pay off.

>>55356093
Some people do the glue method but I don't like to do that. You can actually erase the image of the card with an eraser. In particular 'Ink' erasers like Dixon's Pink'n'Ink or Stadtler's Duo Plast. After that lightly sketch out what you want to do with a pencil, trace over it with pen, and erase away the pencil marks after the ink is dry. You can also free ball it but thats risky.

So what are some cheap modern staples that a lot of people use? Things like lightning bolt that see play in a bunch of decks.

Bw tokens is nice on a budget if you have the right tech
>>
>>55359430
That image in particular is outdated so I wouldn't give it to much thought. Most of the the images in those types aren't very good desu. Out of those decks you listed the only ones I can recommend would be
>Baral storm since pyro storm is outdated ~500
>D&T ~ 580
>U Tron ~450

All of them are already relatively cheap compared to the rest of the format so you should be fine unless by "budget" you mean like $100 bucks.
>>
>>55359611
Would there be ways I could build them for less and slowly upgrade? Also, is there any deck that uses Grave Titan?
>>
>>55359639
Depends on your budget which you should probably have stated in the original post. If you don't have a lot you might be better off just saving for a little while and then buying in, especially since those decks are relatively cheap. There aren't any good competitive decks that use grave titan in modern.

Mox opal creates a lot more keepable hands, but I have tried configuring it without mox opal before. I'm not exactly sure about the numbers, but adding some number of darksteel citadels, springleaf drums, and replacing frogmites with memnites is probably the way to go. If you want to go maximum jank you can also build 100% manaless affinity, but then you don't get to play slag fiend. My attempt was -4 mox opal -3 memnite, +2 signal pest, +2 mountain, +2 faithless looting, +1 springleaf drum.

Eh, those tend to skew in lantern's favor. The slower a deck is, the better lantern does.

The only control decks that lantern I'd say has a disadvantage toward are stuff like Sun and Moon, though that's largely because Chalice really fucks lantern. But Sun and Moon is arguably as unfun to play against AS lantern, so...

Look at their lists and keep in mind the meta you are in. If you are facing a lot of Stony Silences (perhaps Affinity is popular there), then make sure your sideboard is filled with answers to them. If you are dealing with a Storm-heavy or Dredge-heavy meta, then make sure that you have more graveyard hate than usual.

The only budget deck I've actually played was Stake Sisters, and that was because I like the idea of winning with joke cards like Norin and Genesis Chamber. Also my meta was full of Burn and Zoo at the time.

Most of the time alters are done on a commission basis, people don't usually buy random alters online. Start doing alters on cards you already have with art that interests you, build up a portfolio and post it online to facebook or something. Then you can start getting people to commission you for alters. Lookup Klug alters for an example.

Don't start buying staples and altering them, you will almost certainly lower the value of the card and lose money.

After Ascendant gets reprinted in Iconic Masters it should be pretty cheap to run the deck without Crucible and with a budget manabase.

Cavern is just a hedge against counterspell decks and Chalice. It's worth running because it's tutorable with Wayfarer, but it's not mandatory.

Flagstones are good because they increase the effective plains count for Emeria, and fetch the Mistveils, but the deck works fine without them.

As a cheap Martyr-Proc manabase I might run:
16 plains
2 Mistveil Plains
2 Emeria
3-4 Ghost Quarter

They not only haven't released full sets, but also dropped support after only 2 years. Yes it's technically "free to play" but people put a ton of time and money into it, just to be scrapped for their new project.

>They made Duels be an excellent introductory program

It was full of gamebreaking bugs like a 1 mana enchant giving your lands infinite mana, people could abuse the timer to stop the game forever and there was 1 hacker that has been reported with video and screenshot proof to both steam and wizards dozens of times and was never banned, duels was pure garbage.

And I forgot they didn't implement Emrakul because it was too hard to code.

>Neither is making a client that doesn't look like it's coded in C from the 90's. This is Wizards, I trust literally nothing they do digitally.

They have a big financial interest in MTGO, if Arena is successful I fully expect them to move over it and code in modern/legacy/vintage cards.
>>
>>55371263
>They have a big financial interest in MTGO
Thing is, if Arena has a /bigger/ financial interest, then the resources get moved accordingly.

It's so simple:

Wizards keeps coming back to MTGO because it makes them the most money. Wizards keeps letting all their other digital products die because it doesn't make as much money as MTGO. If Arena makes more than MTGO, MTGO will be left for dead, ESPECIALLY if people who play Standard and draft on MTGO make the switch, dwindling MTGO numbers more. And this isn't taking into account new players (which is this marketed towards) who will bolster Arena numbers more.

MTGO's life depends on whether or not Arena is shit, because I guarantee you (and history shows) that Wizards isn't interested in keeping to big digital platforms afloat.

When cards leave standard, do they rise in price, drop in price, or neither?

Also, for cards like Thoughtseize and Bloodghast, how much should I expect those prices to drop when the Iconic Masters reprints come out?

Thanks.
>>
It turns out literally any retard can win with even the worst tron deck because windmill-slamming down turn-three Wurmcoil Engines and turn-four Ugins makes up for the rest of a piece of shit deck or player.

https://youtu.be/_N_WQZBGjXE?t=15m50s
>>
>>55373052
Leaving standard means these cards only have a few playable formats to go, right? Modern, Legacy, Commander, Vintage(?) or someone's collection, unless a card is mildly or heavily played in one of those formats, their prices will always drop, if a card hasn't found a home in a deck in any of those formats, they will drop in price a lot.

Cards within that price range you mentioned usually lose between 20-45% of their price, when there's a lot of stock the older versions prices get cut before the reprint and the prices are at their lowest at most the following 2 months of the set release date, then they start slowly climbing to a "middle ground" between the lowest price and their price before the reprint.

It blows my mind that people still complain about that specifically about modern, yeah, there's a ton of graveyard decks really strong that fold or lose enough tempo to lose the match against grave hate. A single thragtusk or kitchen finks can stop burn on it's tracks if it didn't exactly god draw, add other life gain effects and without skullcracks burn will most certainly lose too, the same can be said about a bunch of other strategies, if you finished building burn, which I'm not even sure that guy did since it's xmage, he should be aware and prepared for LoS, period. It's like some people want to play modern relying heavily on a single strategy and demand that no cards should be able to stop them.

I like putting some number of Evil Presence and /or Contaminated Ground into the mainboard/sideboard. Lots of decks have greedy mana bases and turning off colors can stop a deck in its tracks. Contaminated is not quite as good as Spreading Seas, but at the same time taking 2 damage to tap the land every time can be relavent. They enchantments also feed devotion.

Alright, so currently it whiffs by like 2 cards mainly due to the lands but other than that it works. Gonna trim some fetches, maybe a plains, for 2 more cycling deserts. swapping beneath the sands for another resounding wave (bounces cycle lands to hand to not whiff), and cutting 2 haze (probably hieroglyphic illuminations for now )

Feels like it has potential for shitbrewage, and combo-control is funmode. The worst part feels like the lands, the limits of New Perspectives on the landbase. determined to make it work without running Shadow of the Grave because fuck gravehate.

If anyone knows a creative way to work the landbase I'm all ears

dont be a retard, homie. that card is awful.

it turns on turn 3 and taps you out for the pleasure of a symmetrical ghost quarter. takes hitting drops until turn 5 to play it through your own arbiter to make the extra text relevant and THAT taps you out, too. fuck, dude. if you were going to go through all that you might as well just play tec edge or fuckin' encroaching wastes.

the whole rest of your deck disrupts tron just fine and 'turn 3 take you off a color' against greedy bullshit like shadow is a losing proposition because you might just not have an aether vial to do anything else on your 3 if you're tapping out to do this. if thats your turn 3 you've probably already lost, honestly.

Turn 3 is too slow versus Tron, if you're on the draw. Turn three is when they windmill slam Karn or Wurmcoil, then on your turn three you're going to play a land that requires you to tap out to attack one of their lands that already played a threat?

Flashfreeze only hits Sylvan Scrying in conventional Tron. Worldbreaker is devoid.

Affinity and Eldrazi Tron are also in my meta, which is why I have Ceremonious Rejection.
Death's Shadow, something Grixis, and Abzan Delirium are played, which is why I'm considering Celestial Purge as Path 5&6.

Random question, but why doesn't thrun see more play? Dodges most removal, doesn't die to most sweepers like pyro and anger, and the few that do hit him he can just Regen. The only thing that hits him are edicts, and some sac effects like Lilly, but you can just sac a Mana dork or something.
>>
>>55387139

Simple: he's not a fast enough clock that comes down early enough. Goyf can come down sooner and can be bigger. While Thrun is hardier, aggro decks want creatures that come out swinging quicker than he does. In Modern, by turn three you're staring down either an Ugin or a Grapeshot.
>>
Why would a deck like Titanshift that folds to Blood Moon not run Blood Moon hate mainboard? I'm not that frequent of a modern player but I was thinking really hard about playing a turn 3 blood moon into open red and green mana. I ended up doing it and I won off of it and afterwards my friend told me that they don't run any type of hate for it so there's no reason to think about it in that spot.

Seems real questionable to be willing to drop game 1 to it regularly. Even the old rug scapeshift lists ran some amount of permission.
