"Fear isn't that bad" Edition

For all your questions on Dark Heresy (1st and 2nd Editions), Rogue Trader, Deathwatch, Black Crusade, and Only War.
Not the wargame, not Chapter Master, not Space Hulk. Inquisitor is okay, but not many people know about it.

Not sure between starting Dark Heresy 1e and 2e? Pick 2e.

>Who's making the new 40k RPGs?
http://www.ulisses-us.com/in-development-wrath-glory-for-warhammer-40000-roleplay/
Ulisses-Spiel, very well known in Germany. It's set post Gathering Storm, uses a Shadowrun-esque D6 dice pool, and is a unified line with Marines, Humans, and Xenos all playable in the core book.

Book Repositories (If you're planning to download any Rogue Trader materials, read the .txt file in the RT directory)
https://mega.nz/#F!Pl0UgbJa!vDtTXMKnvZ26fUbuw4X9tg

There is a new Homebrew Megafolder option in above MEGA directory containing several things.

40K RPG tools, a site that contains stats or references for almost all weapons, armor and NPCs/adversaries. Not updated past DH2 core.
http://www.40krpgtools.com/

40k RPG Combined Armory (v6.48.161023), containing every piece of gear in all five lines. Now includes all DH2e books.

The Good, the Bad, and the Alpha Legion (v1.1.2) (Total Conversion Deathwatch into the Horus Heresy)

Mars Needs Women! (v1.3.5) (Mechanicus Skitarii and Taghmata for Only War)

Fear and Loathing in the Eastern Fringe (V1.6.4) (Playable Xenos for Rogue Trader)

If you were to introduce new people into the game, would you use a prepackaged adventure, or make up something for yourself. Do you have a go-to plot for introducing newbies to the game?

I ran them through a couple missions of the space hulk board game to show them the setting, then made new characters. Worked well with the gsc bbeg

I would use Only War

I'd do Black Crusade and open with Broken Chains. BC is more or less D&D in space. You worship gods, adventure in dungeons for magic items, and murderhobo everything that doesn't help you. It's an easy transition.

My favorites are tossed up between Explicator Claus Raimer, Ordo Xenos (Isstvaanian Radical Adept. Just hit Ascension) and Lord Doomfist the Destroyer, Eater of Worlds & Scion of the Red Angel (World Eater Chaos Lord - Khorne Berzeker)

Claus was a former medicae officer in the IG who disappeared when the =][= got too close while experimenting on wounded Guardsmen on Tranch. Practically wrote the book on mutants. Stereotypical mad scientist he is completely devoted to the God-Emperor. Got picked up by =][= by accident while hiding on Kalf, ended up serving faithfully in His Holy Ordos and became an Explicator. Had to get 3 party members killed because radical =/= xenophile or warp fuckery. One of those included detonating an atomic on a heretek xenophile techpriest then blaming him & his followers as a false flag attack. Is the only OG character left in this campaign.

Doomfist, like most Sons of Angron, was wandering battlefield to battlefield in search of slaughter and glory to the mighty Blood God until he came across a herald possessing an ogryn. This possessed ogryn, who he viewed as the Voice of Khorne, sigled him out for greatness and set him about on his red path. Since then he had slain a foul sorcerer, lost his hand to said sorcs daemon weapon, which prompted khorne to bless him with a new arm (Hence tbe moniker Doomfist), has survived a virus bombing from a rival nurgle lord, destroyed a world and razed the factorum-hive of another in spite of said rival and had slaughtered his lieutenant and detactment guarding said factorum, which was if not equal to was greater in size and power to his own. Has seized a vessel for himself as well as numerous daemon engines, as well as gained allies in the face of said rival.
>>
>>55347139
>>55347579

Forgot to mention Doomfist razed the library of that sorcerer and is currently sitting at 90-something infamy. Now is his time to raise an army & fleet of his own and take the fight directly to his rival as opposed to skirmishing

WHAT ARE SOME FUN WAYS YOU'VE USED CYBERNETICS?

Dark Heresy Newb here, playing the part of the tech-priest.

since I get cybernetics more easily I want to play on the Replace The Weak Flesh ability(cybernetics are 2 degrees less rare) I have a utility and an optical drite and a set of subskin armor.

now I'm looking for fun and/or useful upgrades.
for now I'm looking at just the contents of the DH2e core book.

I'm looking at the following

>Mind Impulse Unit
(plug into systems to use them better)
(how is it different from an Interface Port? )

>Ferric Lure
(magnetic object attractor)
(traits/talents grant more neat shenanigans)
>>
>>55347814
Good quality augur array. +20 (or +30 depending if good cybernetic = good auspex) and free rerolls on all perception based tests.
>>
>>55347930
does that stack on the +10 I get for my optic 'Drite?

or does it grant additional value that is more than worth the investment?
>>
>>55347940
It should as it is a bonus from a different source.
>>
>>55347954

my only character to ever survive long enough to become an inquisitor, as well as living long enough to make it out of the hellhole of ascension

Lord Inquisitor Zygand Weltrious Vexos, slayer of deamons, Son of Cadia, Lord Admiral, Lord General, Keeper of Lore, Student of Time, Chaos Scarred, Collector of the accused, Pardoner of wolves, And sector lord amongst his many titles, and other things gained over the years of play.

Originially a guardsman lieutenant from Cadia, picked up by an inquisitor he had mistakenly held at gunpoint. He would eventually serve as his group of acolytes leader, his experience with the guard proving invaluable. A leader, getting his team out of tense firefights, and encounters with careful planning, and judicious use of explosives (mainly melta bombs, and psyk out grenades) eventually was forced into an encounter with a daemon, and thanks to the strings of fate he survived, a blast which took him and the daemon.

after being promoted to inquisitor after unraveling a plot to have his own inquisitor assassinated by a rival inquisitor, it seemed fit he take the rosette himself.

tl;dr a guardsman officer type character, played smart, win got most of the titles during ascension.

Does your starting xp count on the ranking list? Like every game line starts you out with like 500, and it takes x amount to get to the next rank. DH1 for instance requires 500 to reach rank 2, while Rogue Trader is 2000. If you count the starting xp, doesn't everyone start at rank 2 in DH and only need 1500/whatever amount in other games?

I suppose in my case it has to be Holvarn.

Holvarn had a penchant for surviving stupid shit which (largely caused by more puritanical colleagues of his own heretical inquisitor) and being one of the very few people who managed to retire from the Inquisition and start his own thing.

He also indirectly terminated two Lord Inquisitors and started a hunt for the third, but that's a different story.
>>
>>55347139

Werner 'Gunnar' Sigurdsen. Was on a Rogue Trader vessel run on nordic lines, was a Watch Karl. Ended up getting caught by a local planet's custodes while investigating a suspicious sideline business from some people inside the ship, found out at trial they were transporting psy-active shit. Get broken out of prison when weird shit goes down and an Inquisitor shows up (rest of party was also in prison), psyker abilities also manifest. Get quickly sanctioned by Inquisitor, work in his service for a while, Inquisitor tends to be of the 'fingers in many pies' type. End up making lasting friendship with a blank (because of course), end up getting groomed for Inquisition, and then become Inquisitor in own right.

I now use him as an NPC in my games.

I'm about to introduce my group to the setting; just running DH 2E's Dark Pursuits (tweaked to match the party they make during chargen this Thursday), and letting them stay somewhat in the dark about the specifics of 40k.

That said, I'm also a bit lacking in setting knowledge, so I've started reading Eisenhorn to get a feel for how a member of the Inquisition might go about his/her business, as well as scouring through the fluff of the core + enemy X books for lore and setting details.
>>
Will of Iron, which is about an Inquisitor investigating the Fallen Angels, is on Readcomicsonline.

And the truest any Warhammer fiction gets to the reality of playing Dark Heresy is, and always will be, the Ciaphas Cain series. The Inquisitor points, you leap into action while thinking "Wow this is stupid and I am going to die"

an interface port lets you access systems and control them normally. (jack into a car and act as though you were at the wheel) An MIU lets you take full personal control of a system at the speed of thought.( jack into a car and BECOME the car) Good investment if your GM lets you do cool stuff.
Ferric Lure is flashy, but I haven't ever found it overly useful.
Don't discount the basics like limbs. that extra TB isn't fancy, but it WILL save your fate points. get yourself some Best-Craftsmanship legs. Sprint for days. also limbs can hold all sorts of other goodies like inbuilt weapons.

My favorite? Got to be Mikali "Traski" Dzhugdzhur,a battle scarred Arch-Militant from the Valhallan Ice Warriors regiments. With a fixation for naming his weapons after dead squad members and obsessively maintaining them. His favorite was Maria, the Hellgun.

He was an absolute fucking madman.

He and his gang consisting of a mutant ninja-accountant named Khal and a techpriest went to interrogate a former midget butler belonging to our NPC Rogue Trader for information regarding his rivals, and through a series of far too successful intimidation tests and the brandishing of a chainsword gave him a heart attack and an erection

Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

We had gotten enough information, though, and were able to search his hotel room for further plot-points. Mikali was given the vital job of hiding the body...in an alleyway. He first considered throwing the corpse in a dumpster, but upon prompting by his peers to preserve some parts, shrugged and began to cut the midget's corpse into pieces using the chainsword, and stuff him into a box for easy delivery.

His other exploits included: Burning a slanneshi bar down with nuclear fire(while still being inside the bar), passing a passive willpower test to subdue the demon inside a daemonic weapon he found and passing with a 1, cowing the daemon into silence while never even realizing there was a demon in there, setting a daemonic library on nuclear fire(while still being inside the library) having his limbs cut off by their rogue trader when the party realized they were a 10000 year old chaos lord of Tzeentch, surviving an explosive trap that filled the entire room despite having the lowest agility, and saving the magic necron mcguffin at the cost of his life, leading to a very teary goodbye with Khal.

Such a fun character to play. Space russians forever.

What do you propose the leader of the rebelling mutants should be, or maybe interesting mutant subtypes they should fight with?

GM here requesting some helpful ideas. I'm running House of Dust and Ash with my group and after a long introduction we're on the Cygnan Martyr. The players have been on the ship for the whole day and got into a storm at night. I've ended the first session with two of the four players down because of sea sickness and an ominous scream from the outside. What would be a good continuation for the next night/day? I'm having some trouble getting the intrigues between the npc-groups right.
My best guess right now would be a slow working poison for the bidder in the group by the logicians - but that should be done at breakfast/lunch/dinner. What would should I do for the night? Sudden attacks by the abbot because of fever dreams perhaps?

Crab people. The leader has a giant oversized claw much like a fiddler crab in proportion. He crushes/snaps in half those that displease him. Underlings call him "King Claw". He rules through fear and strength, and plans on bringing war to the citizens above and claim his true place as ruler.

>>
>>55374001
Unless there's a Priest working actual miracles, then it's always entirely possiblity that any prayer that was answered, or miracle that occurs was just as likely pure chance.

And such things are never clearly the result of such prayers. Though PCs and NPC may respond to them as such.

From a GM's perspective, it's Chaos who get the flashy, Chaos-intercedes type events.
Imperium gets more sublime stuff, like the tarot and reinforcements arriving just in time.

Most people don't have the skill to make every character death "advance the story." Kinda like how GRRM wrote himself into a corner and now all of the characters we aren't supposed to get attached to because they all die have gained asspull plot armor because there's no way to continue the plot without them. I tried to get in on a game close to this level of lethality, once. We were even registered as numbers, so names could change as PCs died. Everyone was excited and on board with the concept. Then combat started. Charging a barricade, our tanks pushed ahead faster than we could stay in cover behind them, and I figured we were fucked. Then the attacks came, like summer rain.

"Don't worry, Anon, their damage will go up as you get better gear and armour!"

I looked in on the game awhile back; the guy running it was still claiming the game was lethal, as more than half of the original cast had been replaced by new players. Not that they were killed IC. The wall of PC fallen was still empty, and when a player left their characters just stopped existing. Apparently getting people to leave was that GM's idea of a lethal game.

So is melee actually a viable and practical approach? It seems like melee weapons themselves are either shit that isn't worth using or shit that is good but extremely rare without much inbetween, and you need a whole bunch of stats to properly get in, stay in and do damage, compared to just staying in cover and shooting.
>>
>>55381818
It depends on the circumstances. Melee will be a backup for most characters.
>>
>>55381818
Bruh just simple chainswords and axes are great weapons. Nevermind that just getting into melee can tie up a ranged-only enemy. Getting an enemy heavygunner into melee neutralizes him as a threat to the rest of your squad as effectively as a sniper shooting him does - at least until you or he kill one another.

The worst part about Rogue Trader is trying to balance sense with id. The desire to say "fuck it all" and dive forth and go where ambition takes me is a strong one, one that I find harder and harder to resist as time goes on.

The others were to mining ice world to reinforce guard, and to Scintilla to detonate an atomic on his fellow techpriest because he was a necron loving xenophile heretek and we shouldnt truck with that.

Otherwise he primarily operated on Kalf and has just hit ascension. There are other games where there's alot of planet hopping but it depends on the game

I might need some help coming up with Inquisitors for them to investigate. Anybody have any ideas?

Definitely Lord Bernard Montgomery, the Rogue Trader who was obsessed with the history of mankind, far back in the past. 20k years ago, actually.

The man completely misunderstands human culture from this time and wears a nightmarish mismatch of 20th century styles. Bellbottoms and a British Safari outfit, or a powdered wig and some military gear. I think when the DEldar attacked his vessel, he was in a kimono and some steel toed boots.

Great guy, absolutely terrible captain with a hilariously able seneschal who get him out of trouble. He went on funny adventures like "I want to find something valuable to hunt that I can sell, who's children will miss it." and letting my seneschal decide things like "where we're going" and 'What that means". When this leads us into Tau space, and we slip into the system undetected, he wakes up just enough to demand we charge towards the planet and play the Imperial Anthem across all channels.

He also had a love for antique weapons, which was a great chance to use some of the shitty guns from medieval and other worlds that are in BC and RT. I got the DM to go along with a beltfed harpoon launcher, which was fun. He had a belt fed and laser sighted flintlock pistol as well. Great times. Terrible damage in combat of course. He also had some power armor, because good rolls.

He had a brush with DEldar not long after the Tau chased him out of their system, and when they breached his ship, he sort of fell to the Ruinous Powers, and became a pirate of the helix for a Black Crusade campaign, where he was the only human with three Chaos Space Marines. He was the face of the party and moving them around in his amazing ship. The Khornate Berserker managed to tame a demon we summoned accidentally. Great news, but its not going on his ship, which naturally led him to confine it into a drop pod. Very useful to be able to drop a drop pod from orbit with a terrifying ass demon in it.

I feel like two or three more tops would help round it out in terms of a 'Choose Your Own Villain' situation where whoever the players decide to investigate takes the spotlight.

hmm it depends on what kind of thing you're going for but you could mix in some that would be directly opposed to eachother if only they had an excuse, like an Amalathian that's just itching for a good reason to get the Isstvanian trialed for heresy. Or maybe it's more a matter of radicals keeping their beliefs hidden and if the PCs can reveal them it could kick off some infighting.
>>
>>55401969
the latter was sort of what I was going for, every one of the Inquisitors being guilty of something, some more serious than others, letting the players decide who gets in trouble for what.

Deathwatch; I love the way different Chapters' conflicting values interact, and squad-based action at an absurd power level is fun. The 40kRPGs are rocket tag anyway, and Deathwatch is the logical extreme, where everything is metal as fuck. Space Marines do everything more intensely than mortals - fight, paint, hate, befriend - and that larger-than-life grandeur can be a lot of fun. It needs a few houserules so you don't Fury everything to death - I like to use the errata since semiauto fire seems pretty representative of what bolters are supposed to be, and ignore Deathwatch's fucktarded "roll another hit and add to the Furying hit's damage" in favor of the old exploding dice a la Grendel, but I also love my current GM's method of using core's damage profiles but only triggering Fury off the first damage die in any given attack, so no matter how many hits you're scoring or dice you're rolling there's only a 10% chance of Fury, as opposed to the 27% chance of any given hit from a pre-errata Storm Bolter's 2d10+5 Tearing scoring Fury, for a 92% chance of at least one Fury if you land an 8-hit salvo.
A lot of people think Deathwatch is boring, either because Marines are so powerful that they're hard to challenge in combat or because they don't understand the appeal to their psychology, or really that it even exists beyond "kill the alien, purge the heretic, for the Emprah" into very real emotions, bonds, and divided loyalties. They overlook that there are infinite things in the galaxy that can make even the Angels of Death struggle to survive, let alone win, and that playing a warrior monk doesn't mean playing a mindless automaton. Each Chapter has its own proud traditions and deviations from orthodoxy, and each individual has his own quirks. Throw them all together into the Ordo Xenos' Chamber Militant under orders to get along and go purge threats to Mankind, and you've got a recipe for fun. It can be like the ultimate buddy cop movie gone grimdark.

Hm... decisions, decisions. I made them all because I liked them.
There was Ophilia, a stunted hive-gang sniper who lucked into a job that saw her and the fireteam she worked with become the ruling council of a resurrected Knight House.
There was Ultfernaus, a Mortifactors Assault Sergeant who lost his entire squad to the Tyranids and was sent to the Deathwatch a broken man nursing boundless hatred.
There was Cyril, an Ice Wraiths Scout Sergeant who was sent to the Deathwatch for being a cold-hearted killjoy single-mindedly devoted to killing who no one wanted to talk to. He ended up learning friendship among his cousins of other Chapters as they became his Battle-Brothers, and he grew into a leader of warriors, even now waging battle in Guilliman's Indomitus Crusade.
There was Boone Ruskmund, known as Rusk to most, the hiveborn bounty hunter who finds himself most comfortable alone in the forests of primitive worlds with his pet carnodon kitten. (Basically a sabertoothed snow leopard that'll eventually grow to the size of a truck.) Poor bastard ended up as the only puritan in a radical Inquisitor's warband.
There was Brismus... I don't recall his surname, but he was princeling of a Feudal World kingdom. When the Imperium rediscovered the planet, they found men eager to take their steel to the stars in a holy crusade for the Emperor, but with a healthy distrust for technosorcery like the "magic wands" issued to them by the Munitorum, preferring good solid steel over lasguns. In recognition of his rank, Brismus was afforded a modest Command Squad (my justification for our squad having more Support Specialities than Guardsmen) which he zealously led into melee with anything that moved in the warzone.
There was Renzo Ardens, a disgraced Scout Marine who was cut off from his Chapter and gradually fell to Khorne as the whispers of the Warp reached his ears and he cast aside his bolter and other Imperial trappings out of bitterness at his perceived abandonment.

There was Magdalene Orson Oswald Devón MacSilflheimvich, a noble-born psyker who turned her family in to the Inquisition for sorcery and found a home among the stars as the librarian (loremaster, not combat psyker) of a Rogue Trader's advisors.
Now I play Nathaniel Robespierre, a Techmarine of the Death Eagles and Forgemaster of the Deathwatch who dreams of propagating Imperial sonics to the rank-and-file of the Imperium, so that no heretic may preserve their tainted body behind walls.

There was a time when I'd have said Ophilia was my favorite, because as an underhiver scrub she didn't know jack about the wider galaxy, and got to learn about it all in the course of the campaign just as I did, getting my first taste of 40K outside of suptg and 1d4 memery in a wild game of Dark Heresy. So I'm finally condensing the lore of six years of 40k roleplay into one document for my future players. Through multiple sessions and groups, I've maintained a cohesive story. Lots of fun, especially when I can introduce old players to new, and have them exchange tales from the same sub sector.

One of my more successful campaigns was Deathwatch. It was one of the only ones that people consistently showed up for every time I proposed a game.
I think something you've got to sell your players on is the "Everyone is Wolverine" idea. You really are supposed to be playing a group of tough guys who don't get along but slowly come around to respecting each other. There's enough mechanical encouragement for roleplaying that it's easy to make the clash of personalities as central as whatever mission they're going for.
But, honestly I prefer Rogue Trader and Dark Heresy. There's simply more options for the sort of story you can tell as well as the sort of character you can be. Deathwatch is always fundamentally going to be an epic war story, that's what it's best at. Whereas an Inquisitor and her retinue might wind up fighting in the trenches at some point, but they'll also do a lot of detective work, political intrigue, etc.

>>55398389
See above, but also talk to the players a bit about what the SM's personalities are. How do they feel about humans? What's their main ambition? What's their most shameful secret? How do they relate to the Chapter? How do they feel about being assigned to Deathwatch?
Also, in my personal canon I give the Ordo Xenos a lot more authority over the Deathwatch. Even the most noble inquisitors are a shifty bunch, so there can be some fun had in the clash between a morally upright astartes and the "requests" he's getting from the more shades of grey Inquisitor.
And when it's on, go HARD. Space Marines can take a lot of punishment, but Deathwatch characters also average around 4 or 5 fate points. If the enemy figures out that SM are around, start having them throw melta guns, missile launchers, tanks etc at them. Nothing ups the drama like dragging your rival's legless body back to the lz while he gives you covering fire.

>>55390374

Depends on the system. I think around 9-12 soak, though; Toughness 40 or so, Unnatural Toughness x2 (old editions) or +3/4 (OW), and some shitty subflak armor, probably AP2 or 3.
I'd assume effective TB7, 4 of which isn't vulnerable to Felling, and AP of 3 for bog-standard Boyz, but I remember that when I threw them at some friends I was running through Only War for shits & giggles they were panicking over the ineffectiveness of their lasguns
>>
>>55407545
Lasguns only do 1d10+3 damage, so they would need a 7 on their damage roll or more to punch through 9 DR even slightly, and that's after hit to begin with, which is usually a bit better than a 1/2 chance under favorable conditions for new characters. It's going to take forever.

Hey anons, anyone have recommendations for a soundtrack for a Black Crusade game?
I prefer weird ambient that won't be too distracting, but I'm up for anything. I'd like to strike a surreal, creepy mood that can also burst into intense action scenes.
>>
>>55407596
Sure, but Only War does have Lasgun Variable Settings for adding damage & penetration. They're still going to need decent damage rolls to deal with Orks, but my session adequately captured the dawning horror as a bunch of rookie Guardsmen freshly levied from some bumfuck agri-world and drunk on victory after getting into melee with knifewielding Gretchin and only losing around 30% of their force encounter real Orks and realize the Primer was a load of bullshit as they frantically try to withdraw to cover and scream for the marksman to keep firing the long-las.
>>55407625
I'd look into OSTs. Supreme Commander, Mutant Chronicles, and Mirai Nikki might have some adequate stuff, maybe grab some Ratchet & Clank for action moments or F.E.A.R. for spoopy sections.
Dance with the Dead are also fantastic. I like to use them for investigative sections of loyalist games, but the eerie vibe would work just as well for Kayoss.
>>
>>55407545
>>55407596
They have toughness 44, unnatural toughness (2), and 2 flak armor all. A lasgun would have an issue, but that is just a lasgun alone without any bonuses like a sergeant using Get Them! adding a +4 to damage or using overcharge/overload mode.
>>
>>55407743
How many wounds do they have? That's another layer to get through.
>>
>>55407806

That's why you take a heavy. Orks may outsmart you, maybe, but I've yet to see one outsmart a bullet... that is rocket propelled, at 1.0 caliber and explodes after penetration.

Krak grenades work also. Meltagun work better.

So a total of 8 soak, 2 of which is vulnerable to Penetration, 2 of which is vulnerable to Felling, and 4 of which is immune to most normal means.
Guardsmen shouldn't have a problem with that at all. 8 is baseline soak for any kind of professional warrior - a Guardsman with 40 Toughness and line trooper flak has 8 soak, and so does a 30 Toughness civilian in light carapace. I assume the Orkz have more Wounds to compensate, but between special weapons, Lasgun Variable Settings, and Sergeant/Comrade boosts, humanity is well equipped to deal with them directly.
>>
>>55407836
>>55407812
Only 12 wounds? Pathetic xenos. There are starting characters in OW tougher than Ork Boyz... that's depressing.

>>
>>55407872
A nob is a much bigger threat with toughness 47, unnatural toughness (5), flak armor (body) 2, 25 wounds, and Fear (1). They do have size (5) which makes it easier to hit them though.

Also forgot that boyz only have that flak armor on their body location, so you don't even need to bother with that when shooting them in the leg or arm.

One thing to note is that no ork ever gets Dodge.
>>55407929
Hammer of the Emperor.
>>
>>55407905

Sufficient is okay. Overkill is always better. Alternatively, remind me, are Orks one of those enemies who don't care that you've set them on fire? Or do they get a bit perturbed at this?

>>55407929
One of the splatbooks, Hammer of the Emperor I think?. Gives you to hit bonus, and might set them on fire if you fire it close enough.

Oswald "the Iron" Brichenfield.

Due to high starting xp, lucky rolls, and judicious use of the origin patch, I came out of character creation with 70+ Toughness.

Ossie was all kinds of cool. Built like a brick wall, he was basically this 80s action movie throwback character with his guns all named after his ex girlfriends.

He also had devotional imperial tattoos, and a huge bolter.

He was a lot of fun to play.
>>
>>55407951
Don't forget that nobz get crit layer and True Grit. Every single time we fight nobz or warbosses, there's around 2-3 rounds of the Ork suffering increasingly horrific Critical Damage 1-3 points at a time while the ork flails about swearing and trying to murder everyone, before it finally, finally suffers an instantly fatal wound or passes out from Fatigue. Which I gleefully admit to playing up; last game had a Warboss literally losing his entire lower body and still crawling around and shooting at the players before he finally realized he was dead. Then the players blew up the corpse with a grenade just to be sure.
>>
>>55408030

I'd imagine it's more the +1 Fatigue per round adding up that would get them in the end.

So I've been running a Black Crusade game for a few months and I've recently discovered something:

So apparently Necrons are insanely tough bastards...

So here's the party: 1 Renegade (with 2 minions of chaos), 1 Apostate, 1 Chem-Hunter of Messia, 1 Berserker, and a mob of 40 NPC cultists.

Just yesterday our GM had us fight, all at once mind you, 6 warriors, and a scarab swarm. and he was using the reanimation protocols rule.

PC's are alive (more or less) but they've lost a lot of NPCs, 1 minion and very close to 3/4 of the mob is dead. I would like to point out that this has less to do with the GM going easy on us and more to do with a combination of very good luck and carefully throwing NPC's in front of incoming fire.

But I will say that both the renegade and apostate are not in good shapes.

And I think next week might involve an encounter with the Necron Lord himself.

You've got Guardsmen wearing Flak Armour (which is actually pretty damn good), against some schmucks firing a weapon that without special ammunition, is pretty much only good for crit fishing, and even that's not that great in the later RPGs.

So, where can I find cool pics of 40k stuff? Im already going throu wh40kart.im, and im looking for cool scenarios and places, interesting looking characters and weird devices like digital weapons and the such.

Take Forgemaster from Rites of Battle at Rank4. It costs 2Kxp to buy into, but you get a free servoharness, as well as artificer armour. It also comes with a power axe, but since you have a servoarm you'll really only use that when you need a power weapon for dueling or melee with hordes. It also gives you some other goodies - notably Energy Cache three ranks earlier than you could otherwise access it, and at a better cost to boot, so you can use Luminen Charge freely without worrying about Fatigue. Since you've got T45 and Techmarines have cheap access to Toughness, grab three advances in it whenever you've got the XP free for T60 and effective TB12 - 14 on your torso with +2 for your servoarm. Grab a head cybernetic too for TB14 on your head to preserve your BEAUTIFUL BRAIN; it's your least replaceable hit location. I recommend an Augur Array; 15 req to always have an auspex handy with +20 on all Awareness tests, stacking with your Heightened Senses and helmet autosenses, and for 8 more requisition it can be of Exceptional craftsmanship and grant free rerolls on Awareness tests. Some small investment in WS/BS might not be a bad idea; you do get Weapon Tech for boosting delightful things like Power/Plasma/Melta/Exotic weapons, and as a Black Templar you're pretty choppy, while your Ballistic Skill is fantastic and Techmarines have exclusive access to some excellent guns, as well as the ability to mount a very cheesy weapon, the Breaching Augur, on a mechadendrite, when anyone else needs a two-handed rig to tote the fuckhuge drill around.
You should probably take some Intelligence advances to be a good techie, but if combat is your focus then going all-in on Toughness with three advances will serve you well, and coupled with Artificer Armour from Forgemaster and the Armour Monger talent you'll become the team's impenetrable wall. You didn't state your Agility, but it's expensive for Techmarines to advance, so expect to be slow and plan accordingly.
