I've been caught in a creative conundrum. My setting features a hyena/gnoll race, but for the life of me I cannot seem to pin down a name for them. Could you be of some assisstance?

You could always name them based off of a trait they have, like, do they have a matriarchy like real hyenas do and are the only race with this trait? Name them after that.
Do they live in a specific climate or geographical area? There's a name.

They're a little more advanced than their ravenous fantasy counterparts, so I imagined ditching the barbaric shorter moniker for a more civilized name would be fitting.

Good idea, but originally I wanted to name them something that was close to hyena, like a synonym or genus name of something.
