What the fuck was Fëanor's problem?
>>
>>55344156
He really really liked shiny things
>>
>>55344156
He fell in love with the Light of the Trees, and did everything he could to protect its last pure presence on the face of the earth. Since it was he who preserved it, his love quickly became a jealous one.
Those shinies touch the soul, man.
>>
>>55344156
repressed homosexuality
>>
>>55344254
That makes zero sense.
How was he preserving the light when the trees where just fine when he made the jewels.
And if he loved the trees so fucking much, why didn't he agree to give up the jewels to revive the trees when asked, instead of whining about it like a bitch.
>>
>>55344269
So when he put a sword to Fingolfin's chest, was that just him being tsundere?
>>
>>55344156
He made some REALLY shiny rocks that nobody would ever recreate, and he liked them so much that he decided he would sooner fuck everyone else over than see them in anybody else's hands.
>>
>>55344156
He has an ego only slightly smaller than Melkor's. That's why he's one of the few Noldor who didn't listen to him, not because he thought he was bad, but because he couldn't stand the thought that someone else would know or be able to do something he couldn't.
>>
>>55344269
He had NINE SONS.
Honestly, I'm more impressed with his wife.
>>
His pretty rocks got nicked what's not to get.
>>
>>55345158
7, actually.
>>
>>55345158
And he plundered all of their boipuccis
>>
>>55344156
Yeah what was his malfunction not wanting to pay a 100% tax rate on his own handiwork. How the fuck did he expect the Valar to maintain the trees?
>>
How different would Middle-Earth be if no one particularly cared about shiny things?
>>
>>55346644
Morgoth would find some other way to corrupt everything, I'm sure. He's persistent like that.
>>
>>55345158
His wife literally died from running out of lifeforce to pour into babies
>>
>>55346688
Actually no that was his mother

I have brought shame into my family
>>
>>55345158
talk about overcompensating ...
>>
>>55344156
Okay, I'm really reaching here but here's my shot:

Feanor was born to a people who didn't know death, but after giving birth to him his mother wanted to die. She preferred the unknown fate of death to living with him.
So he was born with an immense amount of spirit (fea, the measurable quantity of soul Tolkien described) from his father but particularly his mother, which gave him enormous potential in life.
He had a natural creativity that was fostered by Aule's teachings (I thought he was mentored by Aule but this doesn't make sense now I say it). He made quite a few incredible things.

Then he made something inspired by the greatest phenomena in existence and even gods could tell they were brilliant. He, like his mother with him, poured his actual soul into these creations and much like Sauron's ring (but probably intended by Tolkien in a more artistic sense inspired by his own creative works) they were a significant fraction of his existence.

Then he remembered his mother, he remembered that contrary to Elven belief life ended and nothing was permanent and he was traumatised by how utterly irreplaceable and irreplicable these things were. In his precious egotism he couldn't let them go or let them be lost.
>>
>>55350102
From memory, isnt it said that Feanor possesses the skill to even unmake the Ring? Assuming you could get it to him.
>>
>>55353086
Don't remember anything like that. It was mentioned, though, during the Council that even though it was said that dragon-fire could destroy a ring of power, not even Ancalagon could destroy the One.
>>
>>55344156
Imagine pouring your very heart and soul into these objects, your masterpiece, your reason to exist.
Now these bastards say they want them. Who the fuck do these people think they are? Just because they're literal Gods entitles them to exactly jack shit.

>local man and sons ruin everything for everyone everywhere forever
>>
>>55350102
It's a nice theory, but I'm afraid I'm going to have to shoot it down. Elves "inheriting" fea from their parents is an in universe elven theory that fell apart when you started having Elves being reincarnated. You can check it out in Laws and Customs among the Eldar. There's no real link between Miriel's death and Feanor's abilities.

That being said, the shock of his mother dying in "deathless" valinor, and then his father betraying her memory by remarrying definitely had an effect on Feanor.
>>
>>55356889
Wasn't this massive scandal in elven social circles?
>>
>>55356945
It wasn't massive scandal, but it was unusual. Feanor's pretty much the only one to get butthurt about it though.
>>
>>55344156
He was the greatest Elf ever born, and was always told so.
His mother died after birthing him because he was too awesome. His father treasured him above all his other children.
He was the greatest craftsman the Elves had ever seen, and made the greatest crafts the Elves had laid eyes on.
Everyone fawned over him and laughed at all his jokes and basically he was Chad Thunder-elfcock.
No one ever disagreed with him or told him he wasn't the hottest shit to ever live. Failure was completely incomprehensible to him; he did not believe, even for an instant, that he could ever fail at something. His first act when reaching Middle-Earth is to charge Morgoth's stronghold alone like a dickhead. After being told all his life that he was the best and could never do wrong, he actually believed it to the point of thinking he could take on all of Morgoth's armies by himself.
>>
>>55357876
>His first act when reaching Middle-Earth is to charge Morgoth's stronghold alone like a dickhead

Well, no one except Galadriel
>>
>>55358251
Well Galadriel herself is not a 'good' person by elf standards. She either took eager part in the crimes of the Noldor until long years and regret wore at her, and even then she clung stubbornly to Middle Earth as long as possible out of pride, or else she missed out on the initial slaughter but went with them all anyway.

Elves got a one track brain. They get involved in something and they become totally fucking obsessed with it forever. They can't be reasoned out of that mindset. At most you can kill them (and their ghost will persist with that obsession in the here-after) or you might be able to traumatize them through torture and abuse until they're nothing more than an empty shell.

Feanor got his mind set on those Silmarils.

Ultimately redeemed himself because without him and Talion destroying Sauron's Army and crafting another RoP, the Orc army would of moved much faster.
>>
>>55360567
I love how stupidly off the rails SoM went as far as plot goes, but I can't see Shadow of War (or if they get a third game and intend to do a trilogy) ending in anything but tragedy as you're finally defeated at the utmost and Sauron's war machine grinds onward towards the White City while left with the impression you failed.

Of course you don't, because the books and movies exist to reaffirm that, but it'd be a kind of dark ending for Talion and Celebrimbor.
>>
>>55360505
Because he discovered humans soon after their wakening and when they were still mostly innocent (not entirely, Sauron had already visited even those that had fled west.) So he became enraptured with them the same way a protective older brother would his innocent little sister.

>>
>>55360639
Wouldn't they definitionally have to be from the ancestors of the Eorlings, since Eorl didn't even muster his people to settle Rohan till forever after Sauron was defeated?

The latter is dumb and makes no sense with what we saw even in the first game, let alone actual canon, unless Sauron eats the souls of everyone who the Ring corrupts or something and incorporates them like a giant flaming Borg spirit.
>>
>>55360657
While it should be treated as a fan-fiction (even Monolith agrees with that, but they work closely with the lore masters), it's a fun game and from what I've seen, the new game looks even funner.

Sauron raped Celebrimbor with a pike, and the only resisting he did was give away the three elf rings before Sauron could snatch them up.
>>

"More of a good thing" isn't always a good thing. I'm leery of sequels in general and leerier in particular of stories that could have a perfectly satisfying ending yanking the ball away at the last second so they can franchise.

By the sound of it, they plan to end it with this game.
But if it sells (and it looks like it will) they might do one of those prequal things /v/ always freaks out about in which case, it would be interesting.

I hope so, I really do. I'm cautiously optimistic because to first game had the unmistakable butcher's marks of a rushed development cycle - the way the final battle just sort of happened out of nowhere, leaving plot threads aplenty dangling - but I'm too jaded to bet on it.

On a side note, have they given any official explanation to how to patch up the gaping hole in that Mordor only falling to Sauron's forces after the Hobbit blew in Gondor's history? If Gondor controlled everything up to and including the Black Gate that late in the timeline when was Minas Ithil corrupted? When did Osgiliath fall? Who killed the last King of Gondor, and when?

Isn't like Phobos' gay Sauron is canon either but fuck if we don't see that shit all the time
>>
>>55360870
I just read this earlier this morning but the next game happens like a decade after the black gate falls and one of the first things you do is defend Minas Ithil (which is also a tutorial)

This game has three years of development. They didn't rush it at all so it's looking good because EVERYTHING is bigger.

Your Ring of Power is also stolen by Shelob, which explains why the Wraith is back to square one again because he poured all his essence into that ring.

And yes, start at the bottom and work your way up. It's a nice way of feeling progress.
>>
>>55360923
Which begs the question, again: If they had Minas Ithil so late, was Osgiliath still the capital until then too? Was Minas Tirith still Minas Anor until that late? Did the Line of Kings only end that late?

What irritates me is that they could've solved this with only one or two lines of dialogue that would've satisfied us lore-hounds and also made the Black Hand a more intimidating character with more actual lore attached to him.

"Talion, no! You're not powerful enough to fight the Black Hand! He's been a plague on these lands for over a thousand years; It was he who ended the Line of Kings single-handed!"

Or some such.

You finish the Ring and it's completion rips Talion and Cal away from each other. She then nabs him and says "Give me the ring and I'll give you the wraith" and Talion agrees.
But I think you get it back early in the game because it has a lot to do with the domination system, so getting it back could trigger you getting the ability.

That's because that is definitely wrong.
No way in hell could Helm Hammerhand, A Rohirram king of the 3rd Age could be a Nazgul, since the 9 Nazgul first appeared in the 2nd Age.

Why would you think Helm was a Nazgul?
I remember him having a spooky lore, like he left the besieged fortress to kill Dunlending enemies, and one day he just didn't come back, but people still claimed his ghost haunted the fortress or something.

It is also a pretty enjoyable game, so that is going in its favor. And its internal lore is consistent to itself, but is deep crazy town by the main canon standards.

It is an enjoyable product on its own merits, I don't get the issue. The canon issue is like people screaming about if Ultimate Marvel wasn't faithful to 616 canon. It was clearly linked but is also clearly doing its own thing, and when one does something shitty (Ultimatum, the Civil War, etc) it has no bearing on the enjoyment of the other.

The elves that stayed in Valinor and did jack and shit and have never done a damn thing in their entire lives, or the grey, forest, and dark elves (because fuck me if I want to look up the proper words right now) who all do absolutely fucking nothing good for anyone at any point in time and are primitive as shit?

If Feanor got his hands on the Ring, yes he could unmake it, being a craftsman greater than even Sauron, but he wouldn't want to.

Instead, Feanor would most likely have taken it for himself, and things would've been much worse for it.

Wouldn't the singular be noldo?
>>
>>55365226
Tolkien kept waffling to the end of his days on if Galadriel started out a haughty bitch who was along for the Noldor ride to hell, or if she abstained and came to Middle Earth on her own but never participated in any of the atrocities (which even Fingolfin and his host, broest of the Noldor did by accident).

Tolkien had a bit of an issue of where good things were always good and bad things were always bad in his writing, but you'd think a good Catholic would have loved the redemption of Galadriel angle.
>>
>>55368270
Not him, but I believe the conflict he never actually resolved was

>On one hand, he does want Galadriel to be an egomanaical bitch, at least to start with.
>But on the other, the logical route for that kind of haughtly, kind of evil elf would be to align with Feanor, and she hates Feanor.

I don't think it's about the consistency of her goodness. Also, I can't think of any atrocities Fingolfin does. You have the hard crossing of the polar ice, but that's not really an atrocity, more of a tragedy.

I got the one who was leading the second host wrong. After Feanor starts stealing the Teleri's ships and they resist and it devolves into violence, the Second Host arrives and sees the battle and joins in without knowing this was all started by boat thievery. Fingon was leading this host, though it includes numbers of Fingolfin's people.

It is an unwitting mistake. Also though apparently Fingon was leading this host, Fingolfin was with it too? I'm kind of skimming the wiki and a text document of the silm right now to see if I have my memory straight and flying by the seat of the pants is never a good way to do something.

But yes, that was a tragic accident more than maliciousness. Feanor was the one who refused to take no for an answer and stole the boats which started that whole mess.

First, Feanor explicitly didn't give half a hobbit's dick about anything other than his revenge, so everything good he or his sons did for Middle Earth was incidental.

Second, you can't say Valar are retards while Feanor had the right idea when Valar were explicitly right and Feanor explicitly wrong. He set out to do something that could not be done and didn't care whom he hurt along the way.

never even been to that shitty board dude, and I don't play almost any video games any more.
I don't care how fun the mechanics of your game are. It's an atrocious fanfiction of Tolkien's work by untalented people who can't come up with original ideas to sell their garbage, so they piggyback of actually successful art to market their trash for more shekels.
And if you defend the watering down of actually good art with fanfic-tier garbage, so that Warner Kikes can make a few bucks off of Tolkien's sweat while simultaneously pissing on his grave, then fuck you.

Fëanor's motive was the worst, but even Galadriel's motive for leaving was evil, in fact everyone in the Noldor royal family except Finarfin was infected with the sins of pride and greed.

>She was proud, strong, and self-willed, as were all the descendants of Finwë save Finarfin; and like her brother Finrod, of all her kin the nearest to her heart, she had dreams of far lands and dominions that might be her own to order as she would without tutelage... In him[Fëanor] she perceived a darkness that she hated and feared, though she did not perceive that the shadow of the same evil had fallen upon the minds of all the Noldor, and upon her own.
>It was not until two long ages more had passed, when at last all that she had desired in her youth came to her hand, the Ring of Power and the dominion of Middle-earth of which she had dreamed, that her wisdom was full grown and she rejected it

>muh Valar couldn't do anything
Except they do it the first time when they rip him out of Utumno and shackle him
Then they do it again after letting Morgoth shit everything up including the Noldor vengeance expedition force and the innocent second children, Men, when they go rape him in Angband. The Valar went to war the first time to save the Elves, but didn't do shit to save Men, until a Man came across the sea and begged for help.
>>55368540 is right. Imprisonment was enough. But no where does it say the Valar couldn't just kill Melkor. The Valar chop his feet off, and throw him into the Void.

The Valar criticize the Noldor for trying to stop Melkor's evil, and even if the motives of characters like Feanor are less than immaculate, they were doing the right thing to resist evil. The Valar should have immediately gone to war against Morgoth alongside the Noldor, rather than just waiting a few hundred years from them all to get murdered by Morgoth and then just doing it anyway, cuz a guy sailed over and asked again.
>>
>>55372366
Clearly, you haven't read them carefully, or you wouldn't have forgotten that whole Numenor thing, and how even the Valar had to run crying to God to stop them. Or how the pure-blooded elves do jack shit against Morgoth, and every lasting victory they have is the result of either a human or a half-breed's actions. And that's in the first age, it goes downhill for them from there.

And let's not forget the heroes of the main saga are hobbits, who are an offshoot of men.

So, as we discussed an attempt on Middle Earth's EU that shits on Tolkien, but with a really decent FPS, let's look on /tg/ offerings:

How is ICE old RPG setting? How their effort to create workable RPG world from an epic, few mytos and a fairytale (that's all before media cared about any of them for real) worked out?

And what about One Ring RPG?

They willingly ignore them and refuse to help them at any point or allow them into Valinor. Instead they leave them to die under Morgoth and Sauron. The only time they ever helped humans was when a half-elf begged them, because again, they only care about elves.
