Thread Question: What's your least-favorite color combination? What would it take for you to play it anyway? Do you?
>Thread Question: What's your least-favorite color combination? What would it take for you to play it anyway? Do you?
WURBG. it completely sucks the fun out of deck building and necessitates an annoying level of mana fixing. any player who gravitates towards WURBG decks is probably missing half the point of the format. i hate when people run a commander for it's colors and never actually deploy it.
reaper king and atogatog get a pass tho.
>>55319234
Mono-Blue. I'll only play if it's possible not counterspell shenainigans or so broken in terms of power might as well not having friends. And I don't think it's coming soon.
>tfw playing draconic domination
>tfw everyone gangs up on me
>tfw never get a chance to win with it
>People playing anything other than mono green beatdown
wew what's it like to be shit at mtg lads I wouldn't know
>>55319234
>What's your least-favorite color combination? What would it take for you to play it anyway? Do you?
Boros and Mardu. I'd rather die.
>>55319282
Shit opinion, 5c can be just as flavourful and interesting as any other colour combo.
t. Reaper King player
>>55319234
>Thread question
UW no question. I get about as much enjoyment from knitting as piloting a UW deck. As someone who heavily favors a more proactive playstyle, twiddling your thumbs until an opponent does something puts me to sleep. Generally speaking it feels like your win condition is making your opponent scoop out of boredom when they realize all you do is make them do nothing.
I'd be down for spirit tribal though.
What's good for Marath? (That costs circa 100)
Tokens?
Big smashy creatures?
Combos?
>>55319324
Not sure, what it's like to lack self-awareness?
>>55319308
It's probably because you have the personality of a frogposter.
>>55319307
>He's never messed with Sakashima Clone Tribal
>>55319378
Combos, but your budget is going to make life... irritating. Not impossible, but you'll have to skimp on good lands.
>>55319343
>t. Reaper King player
I SAID YOU GET A PASS
>>55319394
Could you suggest some decent ones to look into?
>>55319234
>What's your least-favorite color combination?
Gruul. Boros is probably worse but I've spent too much time messing around with Depala
>What would it take for you to play it anyway?
Having a good Wort deck. She's got a lot of promise, could even kick Boros back to the curb.
>Do you?
Not yet.
>>55319343
HARVEST TIME
>friend plays token aggro in standard
>makes a commander deck
>it's still token aggro
Whatever happened to that anon who told a kid to kill himself at his LGS?
>>55319234
Temur. I can't play a colour combination that doesn't have white or black in it, tho Maelstrom wanderer and Riku look interesting.
>>55319381
>Sakashima deck
Maybe one day.
But then again I got a Yasova "Borrow your friend's deck and beat them up with it" Dragonclaw deck so I don't want something too similar.
>>55319395
Chromat, Child, and Progenitus can also be done well, but are commonly built as goodstuff. The problem is people, not colour.
How can I make wearwolfs better.
>>55319547
*werewolfs
is a place to start
>least-favorite combination
Blue/Green/anything.
Have you guys ever come across a combo you didn't realize was in your deck?
>>55319595
>We're wolves and we wear wolfs to be werewolves
>>55319234
>Thread Question
Boros. No good card draw besides Wheel of Fortune, and so few tutors it's almost sad. You either draw what you need in the initial hand or you go the entire gaming hoping you draw what you need.
>>55319630
Do you even Land Tax + Scroll Rack?
>>55319618
Unfortunately not, though considering I play Kaalia, Atraxa and Inalla my stuff tends to either all combo with pretty much any other card in the deck or is straightforward "play big things and kill people".
>>55319077
>>55319207
I think those are both covered under hyper efficient/non-vanilla. I did leave out haste as an important part of any aggro deck.
>Least favorite color combo
I have to say selesnya. I started in RTR and always thought it was bad mechanically/flavor wise very faggy. Everytime I end up wit GW in draft/sealed in inevitably lose and have a bad time. I think it would take a some really cool flavor and me delving into how each color covers the other one's weaknesses more. I wish the Unstable faction wasn't shittier GW simic scientist but instead was Militant Hippies. I'd play that legend.
>>55319701
You described my legacy deck. Most fun combo there is
>>55319308
You're not alone, i can't do shit because as soon as i get my first dragon up i'm at 15-20 life and it gets removed before i get a chance to swing with it
Grixis objectively a shit except for our Lord and Savior.
Have y'all ever gotten an expensive card for commander and gotten wrecked by it later?
It's happened to me twice. Both times I bought a Commander with the intent to build a deck but something happened where you couldn't?The cards were Kaalia who I bought days before Queen Marchesa was spoiled and after some research I went with the Queen, Long may she reign. And Leovold, who got banned 2 weeks after I bought him. His deck is now Bug Sidisi. What should I do with the cards. I currently just am holding on to them because fuck it but I might try and trade them off/store credit them into a Zedruu Deck.
Speaking of the goat lady, Would it be better to try to either find her precon/convert GAYKANGZ to her or start from scratch?
How do I stop this cocksucker? God damn I hate izzet so fucking much.
>>55319630
Just tutor for Skullclamp and feed it soldiers, you've got like 8~10 tutors for it in boros colors.
>>55319701
You still need to get both pieces in play to do what someone else can do with a Sylvan Library or Necropotence. But I'll admit, it's a neat interaction when it does happen.
Is anyone else disappointed the Iconic Masters Necropotence uses the FtV art again? I'd have really liked to see the old art, especially in foil.
>>55319832
you know what you must do, Anon
>>55319832Dovescape Taigam
>>55319830
zedruus precon will be damn expensive because it has flusterstorm in it which is like 80$ by itself or something. best to start from scratch.
>>55319878
Same here. I'd love to see the old art in the new frame. I know I can alter it, but it's just not the same thing.
>>55319528
I used to run Riku and he's a great balance of being fun to pilot and being strong. Unlike Sakashima who is just clone tribal, Riku can copy anything and everything.
Also, kicking Rite of Rep on Biovisionary is a hilarious way to win games.
>>55319878
>>55319932
Imagine if Necropotence Guy showed up as a planeswalker.
>>55319370

Kinda sucks that he has to attack though. Is Daxos any good? He seems a bit more reliable.
>>55320003

:)
>>55320017
>HAVE to run mana crypt in them both
No you don't, try budget alternatives if you don't want to spend that kind of dosh on cardboard you silly willy
>>55320017
You don't have to you fucking idiot
>>55320008
No the state of standard is making cards so underpowered they never transition to eternal formats and thus never maintain any value causing new players to lose interest in the game as all of their cards they spent money on are both monetarily and trade wise worthless.
The only time I buy cards in standard anymore is if they somehow manage to break into eternal formats like Fatal Push and Fetch Lands or they'll be wanted for EDH like Chromatic Lantern and Ramunap Excavator
>>55320003
>>55320008
I thought the state of standard was NO FUN ALLOWED?
>>55319962
Seconding this. Riku is fun, can be strong and is really versatile. I run a pretty straightforward Goodstuff with a focus on creatures and ETBs, but doubling both creatures and spells means you can do all sorts of things with him. Also, can someone recommend some fun spicy cards for him?
>>55320008
Not really zombies aren't as relevant anymore and rotate out in a few weeks
>>55320065
>NO FUN ALLOWED
It's also NO RAMP ALLOWED which leads to Nu-Players coming into eternal formats and bitching and moaning about the slightest bit of ramp.
>Playing Modern with a friend at LGS
>I'm running Eldrazi he's running Death's Shadow
>Cast a T3 Thought-Knot
>Standard babby 18 year old sits there watching us bitching and moaning how unfair it is that I got a 4 cost creature out turn 3

We did. Everyone memed it up as the Rhino format. THS-KTK was great up until BFZ had fetchable dual lands, turning everything into 4c goodstuff. IIRC we had
>Tutalige mill
>Esper Dragon Control
>Atarka red
>Mardu control
>Jeskai midrange
>Abzan Aggro
>Abzan Midrange
>Abzan Aggro
>U/W Heroic

>Nu-Players: I wanna play Vintage! Reprint the P9 Wizards!
>Also Nu-Players: What the fuck a T1 Black Lotus and TWO moxes?! BAN IT NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW!
My Japanese Scourge of the Throne came in today, which I had to buy on impulse because Scourges were spiking up to 35+ dollars and the foreign ones weren't affected yet.
God damn I hate this game.
>>55320403
>bought t. chinese patriarchs bidding for 8.50€
>tfw english version is at 18€
who starts buyouts in a casual format anyways
>>55320482
Idiots who think investing in non-foil/non-reserve list/non-lottery singles is a good idea and who will always get blown the fuck out.
I remember two years ago there was some guy seriously saying he was going to kill himself because of the Wasteland reprint because it was over $100 but now it's $25 and he had a huge stack of originals.
>>55320091
Well if you're actually playing Standard you'll know that Thought Knot and Chandra turn 3 is a everyday thing.
I think you want a Meta with Deathrite into Liliana turn 2.
I know this isn't the right place, but there's no casual general so maybe you guys can help. I play casual free for all and there's a good chance I'm going to be buying a playset of o-kagachi cheap in a couple of days, what kind of deck should I make? I would rather not do a stupid "goodstuff" deck since I'm a poorfag. Also, what the fuck is wrong with ramp? My group has no problem with it, so I don't get why others are bitching about it.Hell, sometimes we all pick our ramp decks, mine being W/R/G, and my friends being R/G and G, and those games are always fun.
>>55320403
What the fuck? When did these guys spike? Also why?
>the salt when you pop someones only land before their lotus bloom comes in
I love it
I'm planning on using Dreju as my commander and want some cards that will bounce him from the battlefield and return him. Any recommendations?
>>55320598
that one enchantment that bounces a non enchantment whenever you play an enchantment
>>55320017
I have one real Mana Crypt and proxies in my other decks
I don't like proxies but when your playgroup is at our level (not cEDH level, just high power) I feel like you can't compete without having as much fast mana as your opponents
>>55320551
Why? Probably because of the dragon pre-con.
When? I'm not exactly sure. I just saw someone here complain 4 days ago that wheel was 50 dollars and scourge was climbing up to 50 itself (at the time, peaked at 45). goldfish says it's been climbing since early september.
>>55320613
That's an artifact that bounces a non artifact, it's called cloudstone curio
>>55320040
Oh I can afford it I just can't afford to pimp out two decks at once. Plus now that I've got one deck I can build these two much slower. There's no rush to get a deck out so I can play. The only things I rushed to get were my Yawgmoth's Will and Revised Demonic Tutor since I got a good deal on the Will and I wouldn't be surprised if Revised Tutor starts going up since it's significantly cheaper than the reprint.
>>55320653
I think he means this
>>55319618
Yup! The commander isn't part of the combo, but it's there for reference.

anyone here have experiences playing with or againsta teysa, envoy of ghosts deck and have anything they can say about it?
>>55319972
That would be awesome, especially since while the undead usually can't be Planeswalkers, creative has repeatedly allowed that Liches, whose souls are locked in phylacteries, can be an exception (though they'd always have to keep their phylactery with them
>inb4 Sorin
Innistradi vamps have never suffered death and thus are not undead.
>>55320993
I'm baffled why anyone still watches them. They are unofficial Wizards marketing channel and also completely clueless.
Josh said multiple times that Decree of Annihilation is better than Damnation because "you get to draw cards lol". Manabase doesn't matter that much and the difference between a fetchland and a guildgate is next to nothing. Also Insurrection is the most OP card in the format and ends the game everytime.
The only thing you are getting from there is horrible misinformation.
>>55321583
*decree of pain, sorry
>>55320993
Mutilate is situationally better in monoblack or BG with enough land tutoring to guarentee sticking Urborg... basically in any deck that would reasonably run Coffers. After all, a lot more dies to a forever big mutilate than to damnation, and the list only grows as indestructible becomes a more common effect due to Regeneration being thrown onto the deciduous list at best.
Damnation is more reliable in most decks, though, and Toxic Deluge is better than either.
>>55321583
>Manabase doesn't matter that much and the difference between a fetchland and a guildgate is next to nothing.
Josh is such a fucking liar. He runs ABUR dual lands in his decks and Gaea's cradles.

Cloudstone curio for repeatable etbs with wizards.

He won't, but if anon is still around to eat a little crow in time, it'll be worth the posts.
>implying Razzle Dazzle won't get a ban in the 99
I doubt it. He's no Leovold or Grislebrand
>>55321832
I would jizz an ocean for something exactly like that. I've actually given up building a Rakdos discard and reanimator deck. It will never work.
>>55321805

thats not even what they said you retard. the just said damnation isnt good enough to justify the price tag when your in multiple colors because you have access to the best board wipes in those colors instead of having to just rely on damn nation which is a 20 version of wrath of god. that statement is 100% true. im all about shitting on the command zone but at least shit on them for one of the million actually real reasons instead of flat out lying

Any Masters set with the P9 and Duals in them would do nothing to the prices at all making the whole point of trying to make them more accessible invalidated and boxes would go well beyond MSRP angering a lot of people.

Inalla is fucking dumb though. You should not be able to get that obscene amount of value off of your commander not even being in play. One extra mana and you have cloned your wizard. Something like panharmonicon means you get quadruple triggers just by casting a wizard for one additional mana.

>>55322409
Oh yeah, sorry, you are right. There is no middle ground between 300$ Cradle and everything being worthless.
>>55322409

Just brew both and playtest them, then buy whichever one you're feeling.

>overprinting kills games
Not really. In yugioh, it's a common expectation that expensive cards get cheaper as the game goes on. It happened with DAD, Pot of Duality, Tour Guide, Pot of Desires, Strike, D-Barrier, etc. What really hurts Yugioh:
>Insane power creep with the new mechanic that either makes the old ones obsolete or over powered (as seen with PePe making rank 4 turbo cancer)
>Konami's inability to ban out certain cards on a timely basis. One list took around 8 months to get released because KoA is god fucking awful
>Konami of America can't figure out how to make PSCT work, nor do they have a clear and concise way of explaining SEGOC, missing the timing (which shouldn't really exist) and other rules snarls. In fact PSCT tends to make thing unecessarily complicated, as colon, comma and semi-colons being fucking code as to how effects work. But to make it clear and concise means a complete overhaul of the rules which leads to
>the cancerous community that's either trying to steal from you or cheat you in the rules or literally stacking their decks, who also don't want a rules overhaul because they rely on bending nebulous rules
>All the judge rulings are hidden behind a facebook wall for no reason
>The Konami of America staff, when confronted a lack of a banlist, told players to "go outside and read a book"
>Konami's in-ability to intuitively understand how their game works on at least a basic level
The game CAN be fixed, but it requires a massive overhaul
>>55322494
Honestly there isn't. If they made a limited print run of "reserve list masters" then stores would never sell it at msrp. That just wouldn't be a sound decision when they could mark up a box well over $2,000.
If they made it an unlimited print run then prices for the cards would eventually hit an area of about 20$ for a black lotus and 10$ abur duals.
If you think there is an in between please explain how
>>55322277
Yes, sure, but the problem ID creatures are pretty much both Ulamogs exclusively, and they would require a hefty amount of swamps. Mutilate is a much shittier version of Toxic Deluge, afterall.

pretty sure one of approaches win conditions says you have to cast it from the hand
and im in UW, im playing board wipes, cantrips, and approach, like imagine the most anti-fun UW control deck from RTR-Theros block and thats what im trying to get at
right now im trying to find a way to sneak quicken into it since I think I need more cantrips
on a side note how many anti-storm effects does a deck need in order to reasonably feel safe against it? im running two cards specifically to target it and a few that can flex to deal with it as well as other more general spells
>>55323514
The condition is that you've cast it once before, but only the one you've cast from hand can cause you to win.
>>55323514
>pretty sure one of approaches win conditions says you have to cast it from the hand
So it does.
You've got blue, you can just fish that shit back to your hand with Archaeomancer if it lands there. Or, you know, any of the myriad cards with the same effect. No need to blow shuffleback sauce. And that's assuming you don't protect the damn thing with counters anyway. Remand or Memory Lapse much? They can also serve to speed it up. If your commander is Taigam, you can just Dovescape and laugh too.
>>55323514
>on a side note how many anti-storm effects does a deck need in order to reasonably feel safe against it?
Depends on the meta. In Azorius, you don't need a ton, just GOOD calls like Ethersworn and Labyrinth.
Isn't Walking Ballista supposed to be a staple in mono green Selvala decks? I'm looking at some lists and I don't see it.
>>55323613
Silence and Render Silent are also pretty good ways to keep a Storm player from going off, an also double to protect you from interaction.
best ways to upgrade the new commander decks (budget)
>>55323550
yeah so the one that wins me the game needs to be cast from hand, so flashback doesnt work in this instance
thats why I was wondering if I could use flashback to get it back to 7 from the top
>>55323583
the remand memes are cute so Ill toss those in the deck, the decks wincon is ONLY approach so no dovescape which is why my commander is lavinia since she serves as a pseudo-wipe getting me a free turn to survive
>>55323613
>>55323628
Im going with trickbind and nimble obstructionist for now, might bring back render silent since I cut it before but im already having a hard time deciding what cards I want to keep and what needs cut

>>55323622
I feel like Walking Ballista is sub-optimal at best, and shows up in decks just because of standard hype. Same with Hangin' Back Walker, but to different effects.
>>55323665
Just buy singles and be careful about the price, why is this even a question?
Random question concerning a particular interaction. If I have mairsil on the board and have both pack rat and mirage mirror caged, then use pack rats ability, but then in response activate mirrors ability to turn into anouther creature/artifact/land. After the transformation resolves, then the pack rat ability resolves. Will the rat token be a copy of the original mairsil or what mairsil transformed into?

No, they're transforming, which doesn't trigger ETB effects. It has to be worded like the Origins 'Walkers, exiling and then returning transformed.
At what point do you relent your tunnel vision for gunning one player? Last game someone mindslavered me, exiled my own commander, and sent it to exile. So naturally I made a revenge oath to always gun for him without fail. But when do I let up? Do I continue to go even if it means kingmaking? If I don't follow through, then how is anyone supposed to take me seriously?
Is this Alesha deck worth $60? Just started playing and have no idea what the cards are worth
>>55322772
>print a short run of them
>check price
>repeat as many times as necessary
Wow, that sure was hard. It will eventually get to the desired target price, because no store is dumb enough to go"oh, this card is $200, but wizards keep printing it? I will just sell it for $2 out of spite.".
They could even make a box of stuff like that and short print it once or twice per year with an updated list. I imagine that just the release of an information like this would make the price of many expensive cards go down a lot, since there are a lot of expensive cards that aren't even being used to play, just sitting there as store stock. It may even benefit the stores by having them sell that shit and buy stuff that generates more profit faster instead of waiting for years until someone buys something as expensive as a p9.

You dingus, how are you going to determine necessary? Especially if people are holding on to product and not selling in the hopes that shit will go up. If it isn't an actually unlimited print run, but instead some sort of bastardized controlled print run and wizards announces it as such, then the smart move is to buy as many cases as you can and hold out for as long as possible, try to move the product in at least a decade if you have the capital.
The only way around this is to literally flood the market, to the point where you literally have underground sea at like 8$ or less. This will kill the game, like all those Japanese ccgs that pop up overprinted and died.
>>55325278
