Well you were probably dropped on your head.. so where to begin?
>>
>>55310227
The more detailed the model is, the harder it is to recast, the harder it is to make miniatures to proxy it with, the harder it is to buy from anyone except Games Workshop.
>>
>>55310227
I like a lot of the new nurgle stuff.
But this pose, for the only other named character, is painful.
This pose is fucking horrible.

God that looks shit. He looks like he's about to fall over backwards. Someone put a banana peel under his foot. Maybe he's part of a set, with Draigo pushing him from the front and Stern kneeling behind him.

I guess it was inevitable though. Unlike the other two CSM characters they've redone, the previous Typhus model hasn't aged. I guess the only thing you can really say is it was a bit static, so maybe this is a classic GW extreme over-correction.

I really hate newfags who have only been here for two editions. 40k has always been cartoonish except for the weird lapse of quasi-realism we got, which was new horrible. The new models are great and a lot more reminiscent of GW in the good 'ol days.
>>
>>55311794
They were somewhat cartoony, but they weren't overdesigned and made to look like they are straight out of League of Legends or whatever MOBA tripe is popular these days.

>"So what the fuck is this, Cancer?"

>>
>>55310476
I think he is supposed to be doing some summoning the flys / ordering advance thing.

Still rather stupid pose. I think the Nurgling / fly position are what put it over to terrible for me. Remove the Nurgling (or put him on the base) move the flys to his back, lower his glaive arm, and change his off hand from a surfboard pose to a more resting open one. Then he would be passable.
>>
>>55310274
I'm different, apart from Mortarion, I loathe the new Nurgle stuff. So far it's been mostly over detailed clipped together mono-pose abortions. I hate the over use of tentacles (not a fan of tentacles on CSM in general). They are modeled more like Nurgle Daemons or Nurgle Chaos Warriors instead of the old classic Death Guard Plague Marine. Aesthetically there is way to much going on, functionally it removes my options for modelling. For me these kit bashed Plague Marines are spot on as to what Plague Marines should be. http://bloodofkittens.com/wargaminghub/2013/03/31/wip-death-guard-plague-marines/
>>
>>55311794
You honestly can't call the new Typhus model great. >>55310227 This is awful.
>>
>>55311864
Just looked at it and I quite like it as well. Better than Grillingfan at least.
>>
The new models are over designed as part of an effort to make them harder to counterfeit by third parties and home modelers, sort of like all the shit you see on 20 dollar bills these days. I'm sure they did market studies that prove their targeted demo of males 16-35 like the Joe Madiera tier imagery too. The weird, overly complicated names are further there to make figs more easily copywrite-able to prevent repeats of Chapterhouse. Finally, they're coming plastic monopose because they're trying to sell to more entry level interests who want figs but lack the skills or inclination for clipping, sculpting, and modifying.

I mean... yeah, /tg/, you pretty blatantly aren't their target market here. Why would we be? Grognards are either assured sales and therefore marketing towards them is wasted money, or they're always going to go with cheaper more customize-able third parties they can hack up and reassemble with green stuff and magnets as they like.

>>
>>55312597
Dude, why would anyone here shill for GW? Is that the impression you've gotten from this board in your many weeks/months/years here?

These models are cool. Play SMs or Eldar if you want something with less character.
>>
>>55310227
fucking spirit fingers!!!
>>
>>55313540
Basically everytime in the last few months anyone has a criticism of GW you get a flood of people telling the things like "play SM or Eldar for something with less character" instead of allowing discussion grow around the criticism, there is disagreeing and then there is trying to bully, Reeeee and discredit into silence.

And the models really do suck. I paint, kitbash, convert and greenstuff, it's what I do, I love having a basic kit where I can add the character I want to whatever it is I'm building. The space marines tactical squad released around 3rd edition was a gamechanger as it was simple enough in design but with work imagination and skill you could produce beautiful models, squads and armies with your own style and choices. From what we've seen from these new Nurgle minis (apart from Mortarion, I will say I do love that Mini) are mono-pose, clip-together models, that are way to heavy in detail (again making customization more difficult) and if this is indeed going to continue reduces the choices and variation one can create. If they went with less detail, a more simplisitic design instead of going over the top with tentacles, flies and other such details and focussed on a basic plague marine aesthetic in MKII or MKIII armor it enables me as a hobbyist to add those details in if I choose to add them. It also means other hobbyists doing the same will make different choices, meaning that although there is a basic plague marine look, each army painted and modelled becomes a unique group of "your guys". Having your own well painted and sculpted army is great especially in the sense of achievement. Add in that such reward and variety in creation perfectly fits the Nurgle/Chaos theme.

I cannot see these minis being easy to modify or convert for anyone without a decent amount of skill due to the task of removing all the detail and that clip togethers are harder to convert than the multipart kits.
>>
>>55313735
I have to agree with you there. If the flies, nurglings, and tentacles were separate bits that you could add on, it would be much better. See the chaos mutations sprue that GW still sells I believe as an example. GW should just lean away from monopose models and focus on their strongest point IMO.
>>
>>55313735
>I cannot see these minis being easy to modify or convert for anyone without a decent amount of skill due to the task of removing all the detail and that clip togethers are harder to convert than the multipart kits.
Good, the less player agency the better. Freedom encourages kitbashing and kitbashing encourages third party models. Don't defend the great evil that is freedom for players.
>>
>>55313540
>Dude, why would anyone here shill for GW?
Because of GW paranoia and dreams about total domination. Remember we'are talking about company which shooted down all memorable fan-projects (movies, games, suppliment and models)

what happened to the subtle mutations?

why are the Death Guard so cartoony with giant spikes and tentacles everywhere?
>>
>>55312035
What an awful model to choose for your """"argument"""".
Also, RT stuff wasn't cartoony, it was more based off of 2000AD so they had more comic book roots. Further, the medium wasn't as developed so there are some less technical pieces that haven't aged as well.

The Chaos Space Marine and Imperial Guard ranges of RT, however, have aged very well despite being 30 years old.

Another reason they all look so bad in pictures is 'Eavy Metal's paint scheme, it's got to be the worst promo paint job I have ever seen, everything just gloms together, you need contrast.

...okay, so the pose is dogshit, and the smoke and flies are too busy.

But they did a good job of carying over details from the old Typhus model, down to the Nurgling hanging onto his side. The sculptors/CAD artists did a fantastic job of keeping his appearance consistent- there are a few differences, the shoulder pads being Cataphractii style and the knee details being switched, but... Even if the pose is dumb, this is unmistakably Typhus. So yeah, credit where it's due.

Probably going for 80s style, just with modern CAD rather than artwork that looks like that and a model that looks like a blocky version of that with half the detail.

They might also be trying to move the Plague Marines away from looking like moldy CSM, which I think is a bad move, because that's what most of them are in-canon and the earlier figures look liked that.

The smart money's on this being them trying to merge 40k aesthetics with Age of Sigmar aesthetics, which is also a bad move considering 40k has had its own established aesthetics move more and more towards un-cartoony figures, until perhaps the Guilliman model, with its gangly limbs and hideously generic and gaudy decoration (Ultramarines in particular and Space Marines in general should have much sleeker lines than that, it looks like it belongs on a Custodes).

Fuck no. The "current" 4th ed. metal and and now finecast Plague Marines are god awful. As you said, they just looks moldy and emaciated. With the horrible "stretched flesh thing that makes Obliterators and Mutilators also look so ass. Good fucking riddance.

By and large the new models are much more baroque and corrupted versions of the great 2nd ed., pickelhaube wearing, "trencher" style plague marines.

With a darker paintjob it would look better too. The green is too bright for those models, which should be coloured in filth. On a just post-heresy (or just more subdued) Death Guard, without cluttered model design, it would make them look nice and sickly, but on those models it looks too much like paint rather than a biological thing.
The bone colour and cloak colour are also too bright, they should be two shades darker, and the clean, bright, gold is a very strange choice for the model. Heavily wash some bronze or brass colour with black and brown. Not to mention you sort of need at least basic weathering.

>>55316526
I don't think the finecast were good models, just in line with the grimdark aesthetic rather than bloated Sigmar cartoony style. Those models are ideal for what I was talking about, because they still look like space marine soldiers and have human figures.

I feel like these plague marines, especially Typhus, are way too animated. When I imagine Nurgle's minions, I ithink of them feeling perpetually ill, with fevers and chills and nausea and aching joints, sinuses overflowing with mucus, burning, itchy eyes and cold, clammy skin. Everything that I feel when I'm sick, dialed up to eleven, but cherishing those sensations like a child cherishes its parent's hugs. Marrying that with the Death Guard's supposed stoicism, there should be an economy of movement. Very few drastic gestures. Every motion deliberate and slow. That's not what I see here. This is more the exuberance appropo of Khornate sculpts.

The basis of all these models are great. It's all the extra details like the spikes and tentacles/flesy bits (which I especially don't like) and fake smoke/fire/flies shit they add to models now that make it seem so busy and cluttered. That paired with the bad cartoony paint jobs make them look ridiculous. I think the models with some of the details removed with a dirty grimy paint job will look awesome
>>
Can't wait to see what they do with new Slaanesh models...

But in seriousness, they could do a reboot of the aesthetic without totally de-sexing the chaos god as part of the lore.
>more skin on display, not just for sex appeal through nudity, but suggest drug use (bare arms) and self-flagellation, scars and veins
>easy on the horns there bugs (because sex god = crustacean doesn't make much sense). Maybe they could tie the horns into the historical meaning of cuckold, more like antlers.
>instead of just horns they could also put blister/scab-type marks on the armour to be reminiscent of STDs, or use vines of plants constricting them

Whatever shill. If you've actually read the thread you'd realize that there are valid criticisms of the new Nurgle models, as well as praise for other things GW has produced recently. Generally this criticism has to do with the cartoony style, the release of clip together mono-pose CAD models over multi-part kits which encourage customization, the cramming of detail onto the minis which hampers customization. A lot of the discussion has been constructive.

The only whiny bitches here have been the shills like you who will not allow any conversation that isn't dick-in-mouth praise of GW. If you like them, great, happy for you. But most in this thread don't like them, not due to the models being GW, but due to the sub-par quality of models in latest release. The shilling is getting really fucking tired, as it crashes any discussion, and most of us resent be told to and how to suck a corporate cock.

So literally 40k? This is the exact same stuff we had back in the good old days, only now with higher detail as the molds aren't as primitive.

Lord almighty I never thought I would live to see the return of oldhammer style HQ's en masse, and then have everybody bitch and moan about oldhammer practices. The only shame is the price, otherwise the model and the current course of models is fine.

The funny thing is, this shit isn't "new" GW. GW models have always been very wacky and silly. For example old bloodletters from Rogue Trader had the same alien heads they do today. I remember when people bitched that the plastic Bloodletters looked like little aliens instead of the miniature bloodthirsters that they used to.

Look at how John Blanche's art, since the very early days all the way up to today. It's no different. The style has not changed — his work is very baroque and busy.

But GW is different, because they have the techology to replicate more closely John Blanche's artwork. If you look at the old models you can see the sculptors tried their best to squeeze in as much Blancheian details as possible before they had to stop.
>>55317400
This also. The paintjob looks typical 'Eavy Metal in that it's super clean and made to "pop" so the models look great in photoshoots. When proper army painters get their hands on the models people will stop bitching as they'll see the true potential in the models.

BREAKING NEWS!

True

>people are surprised nurgle shit looks bad

How? I see no difference to other nurgle models. They all have the same stupid looks, the new ones are just brighter painted and have a bit more shit tacked to them.

Maybe people slowly come to realize how fucking bring nurgle is and GW will start producing other shit for once.
>>
>>55317387
The fire could be a bit more billowy in the middle, but honestly I think the idea is so great and well-executed that the icicle-like fire can be forgiven.

>>55317167
That pic has plenty of good contrast honestly, and the OSL is the extra touch.

>STOP SHILLING, GW ARE POOPY-HEADS AND THEY SUCK
>REEEEEE
Why are you even here? You obviously just hate anything GW does on principle and are only here to whine and bitch and make sure no one else likes them either. Stop stroking that hate-boner and get another hobby you autist.
>>
>>55317522
>for once
The fuck? Aside from Daemons, which are at best equal in amount to the other gods, Nurgle hadn't gotten anything in 40k for decades.
>>
>>55317496
See, those look boss. Stop looking at GW's paintjobs and think about how you could improve the model with your own.
>>
>>55310227
What are you talking about, that model looks sick.
>>
>>55317553
>g-g-g-guys, pay extra-price and just fix them for GW
Also, this painjob is good because it's hiding at least half of details
>>
>>55313999
literally because sigmar was a success, they went with more overt mutations and effects
>>
>>55317572
This. "It looks better black", because dark paints hide details. If I pay premium for them, I want them to be stylish as they are.
>>
>>55317496
Those look "Blanchian" if we grant that everything Blanch did is perfect, but those ones somehow look far more demonic, intimidating and grimdark, not cartoonish and blocky. Is it really a paintjob that adds that much perspective to them and makes them look like they have no articulation or proper scale?

I said before and I'll say it again.

Contemporary "High End" Painting standarts with the overly extensive gradiants and extreme highlites make the minis look like something that was rendered on an N64.
I can't imagine someone wanting that look for their army.

Former WHFB here, this whole nurgle release looks like absolute crap, I don't know how can you 40k kids still buy this goofy shit. They slap the "Space Marine" label onto something and it's a no brainer for you.

>>
>>55310313
I like this! Can combine it with the Mechanicus kit that has a power-lifter and a "tractor" of some kind, for a nurgle gardener theme!
Rednecks of Nurgle, here we go!
>>
>>55316019
Why aren't these being sold?
>>
>>55316910
Fuck i love this i want that model.

The flesh mower is fucking full retard though, genuinely worse than the lord of skulls and taurox in terms of shit tier design
>>
>>55316910
you know, if you take away the potions and mount them on the Typhus and remove some other bits here and there as well as kitbash with parts from the other new nurgle units, you could probably have a very unique lord.
>>
>>55316592
Just get rid of the nurgling on his leg and whatever is coming from his right arm and it would be much better.
>>
>>55318348
>get rid of Nurglings
You fucking heathen.
>>
>>55310227
Yes, partially. PRAISE NURGLE!

You forgot a command though
>>
>>55318402
It could work if it wasn't on his leg, over the shoulder, the back or at base more than probably it would look good enough.

I do admit i'm not a fan of adding "familiars" to miniatures.
>>
>>55311864
>these kit bashed Plague Marines are spot on as to what Plague Marines should be.
I agree. Mutations, such as tentacles, should be availible as optionial pieces on the sprue. That way people can themselves decide whether they wanna go the less-is-more route or create hulking mutants.
>>
>>55318601
Nurglings are basically like kids. They follow around the older dudes, have their heroes and are impressionable as fuck. The Nurgling who is helping the Tallyman for example thinks the guy is cool as fuck, wants to be just like him and will do everything he asks like a little lackey.

It's cute. I love Nurglings.
>>
>>55312035
That back-thingy looks way better than the current ones. It would fit greatly on a barock armoured Slaaneshi CSM.
>>
>>55317062
Oh those are fucking fantastic.
I just found my Gremlin Werepigs.
>>
>>55318663
Well, Papa Nurgle loves all of his children, so not surprised about nurglings being like that.
>>
>>55313735
This shit right here!
>>
>>55314625
The staff is pretty garbage too, but it is also easily replaced.
>>
>>55316019
How the hell can the person that have made that army also designed the new DG?
>>
>>55311864

I agree but GW is nor making Plague Marines, they're making literal Death Guard. The Death Guard Legion turned to Nurgle.

These Plague Marines obviously suck for anything that isnt the Death Guard, with those heresy era armours and extreme nurgle mutation.
>>
>>55313735

They're not making generic Nurgle space marines, they're making the Death Guard.

I do all the things you do and love the new models, and I am big into my own custom SM chapter with tons of modeling (so I can appreciate versatility) and still I think the monopose DG models are awesome.
>>
>>55318086
>sucking dry a fallen guardsman

Hmm, kinda gay man
>>
>>55310378
You do know which setting you're talking about, right? Over design is what they do.
>>
>>55310313
>>
>>55318889
see, I think he did them like that on purpose. Seems like he could easily convert them into his own warband, and especially considering that one of them has his warbands fucking insignia on its pauldron, I say its on purpose.
>>
>>55318894
Extreme Nurgle mutation is somethign all plague marines would have, since what makes plague marines plague marines, rather than just random CSM dedicated to Nurgle, is that they've been especially blessed by Nurgle.
>>
>>55317002
Tallyman reminds me of something I was thinking of doing with Epidimus.

>>55310313
Another part of Nurgle's gardening crew

>>
>>55318863
I dunno, I hated it when it was first revealed, but it grew on me. I play crons, so I have a shitton of staffs if I wanted to replace it. I may just end up extending the bottom half.

>>
>>55314625
1)Holy shit, removing the face does wonders.
2)I'm amazed how often I've changed my opinion on a new model once I've seen somebody give it a different paint job than the one GW thought was appropriate.
3)As has been said - stay safe, anon.
>>
>>55317038
It had way more setting in it than Age of Sigmar did on release.
>>
>>55320979
Yeah, my horrible picture doesn't do him justice.
My scheme is a rusted cast iron with deep maroon cloth with some coppery highlights. Not sure what secondary color to use yet.

But anyway, I certainly agree, almost all of GW's new stuff looks truly amazing, but it's all obscured by horrid ultra-highlighted paint jobs and a bunch of scupted nonsense, like the caster's popcorn hand. File a couple of these things off, and they look beautiful.
