What is exactly the machine spirit? Does it even exist in the first place?
Is it just a fancy way name to some kind of rudimentary AI? or wetware?
Or is it really some kind of spirit that make machines work?
or are they fragments/manifestations of the Void Dragon/omnisiah?

yes

Honestly, we're better off without an explanation.

All of those + it's not actually true/they make it true with the power of faith.

To a certain extent it's a philosophical abstraction. But in a universe with a psychic parallel dimension touching reality at every point, such things are more than just notions.
A stone is just a stone. Rude matter, devoid of purpose or meaning. Take it, break it, make it a crude handaxe with a cutting edge. Now it is a thing of intention. It has a purpose, a correct way to use it, incorrect ways to use it. If you treat it with respect, it will serve well, be your partner. Fail to respect it, and it may shatter in your hand, foiling your task, maiming your fingers.
So, the right thing to do is to treat it with respect and caring. Treat it as if it had a soul. Does it have a soul in truth, or is that just a mental shorthand to remind you of best practices? What if, instead of a stone handaxe, it's a two-kilometer spaceship five hundred years old, riddled with ancient cogitators running scraps of strange code, scarred by travel through the warp, behaving in ways that seem eerie and personal even to an expert enginseer. Does it have a soul then? Does it have a shadow in the warp, as mortals do, an essence of self and will that provides some protection from corruption and demonic possession?
Perhaps so. Or perhaps it's just a way to remember to do your maintenance rituals. But still, best to treat your tool with respect, lest it shatter and leave you bleeding.

This is a somewhat good explanation.
In the 40k Universe, even inanimate subjects have souls and memories. A sword is just a sword. But if it kills lots of people it can and will awaken with its own spirit/soul. Just the way things are. A dagger that is used to backstab people will eventually wake up and crave its purpose. Same goes for all items.

Yeah, big chunk of This. I kind of like the fact it's rather nebulous, especially since the higher ranks of Magi seem to know a lot more about stuff and just go through the religious motions with regards to equipment.
Personally I think that only big stuff like advanced tanks, Titans and spaceships would have actual Machine Spirits and the lower ranks treat everything like that to learn both their maintenance processes and the value of being careful with things, and gradually learn as they get older and more skilled.
Happy with most interpretations, though. Probably too much evidence to discard them entirely given Titans clearly have emotions and sometimes personal volition and there's incidents like Rynn's Might.

Yes, they exist, because near the entire population of humanity believe that they exist, plus power from the void dragon/ worship of the omnissiah.
>>55307438
We have no idea anon.
It could be AI.
It could be the belief of the Cult.
It could be Void Dragon.
It could be the Omnissiah as an actual minor warp deity.
It could be a real thing because everyone believes it, like Orks but on a whole humanity level like this anon said.>>55309373
Or it could be like this anon said>>55307678
We'll never know unless GW tells us and they won't because at this point they probably can't make their minds up.
I like to think it's AI in the most advanced or important warmachines mixed with actual religious fuckery where the AI personality buy into the idea that they deserve worship and play along with it.

I always thought, that that would make the most sense because "Power of Faith" also explains Wonders and Living Saints. But yeah, we can't really know it, maybe it even something we didn't thought of yet.

That's a good way of explaining It.
What's is considered a Machine Spirt and what's considered an AI (abominable intelligent lol) is bit unclear but. Sometimes it's just the same thing with a different name. Other times it totally unrelated or even the opposite of one.
