>>

It's really not that great, wouldn't recommend.

Why though? Strenght only provides a little bit more damage and slightly better AC, while dex gives you better initiative, saves and ranged options without multiclassing or magic initiative.

You can't and I never said otherwise, but there are always rounds where you can not get into melee, so still being able to do anything is neat. When you get into melee you can smite with dex weapons just the same as with str ones.

Also, if you think oaths are silly, you can just refluff paladin. You don't have to come up with this "I'm just dipping so it's not binding" meta-explanations.

Also as a DM, I love it when a player has a conversation with an NPC, and I get to drop "hmm, he's hesitating. Roll persuasion."

I like to create more flavour weapons rather than just +Xs.

The next quest is having the party recover an meteor so the blacksmith can forge a weapon with it.

My first idea was that if you beat the target AC by more than 7, you do an extra d4 radiant damage, beat the AC by 10 and it does d6 extra and a critical hit is 3dX +Mod.

Thoughts?

No. You can't just 'roll' for everything. Some things are literally impossible. Your faglord bard cannot roll to seduce every tom dick and harry he comes across just because he craves semen.

Tell him he rolls and automatically fails and if he tries that "but muh nat 20" remind him that nat 1's and 20's aren't automatic fails and successful and they never fucking were.

Sit everyone down and talk to them again about when and what they roll for. Encourage them to ask 'can I try doing this for so and so reasons', make sure they clearly state what they want to do before you ask for a roll and have the roll happen. If there is no way that the roll actually has an impact, don't bother doing the roll and just respond right away.

Just because they get a nat 20 on a skill check doesn't mean they succeed or get to do exactly what they want. Tell your group again about this - crit fails and success are only for attack rolls.

If they keep being a pissbaby, you may want to consider tossing their arse out and telling them to find the true lulz randumb campaign they want to play.

Anyone have experience with including hirelings/DMPCs in their campaign? I'm going to be running a game soon but the player count is only 2, which I'm used to running for 3. I feel that having only two players is going to make things very difficult not only for the players, but for myself since I won't have as much room for encounter building.

I'm thinking about including hirelings to give enemies more things to attack and also give the players more tactical options. Is it a good idea to just control the Hirelings myself, or should I give them control of these characters during combat? I'm leaning towards letting them control the hirelings in combat that way they're playing the game more and it's not at least one turn of me playing against myself as the DM. I don't want these hirelings to be fleshed out characters, but I was thinking that if they survive enough battles and the players start to like them as NPCs, then I can turn them into DMPCs that are stated and at a lower level than the players - still giving them control of these 'DMPCs' during combat encounters.

Perhaps each province or area has its own kind of hirelings, that way travel and territorial control becomes a game in of itself later on.

If it's the only option, you should keep it something flexible with broad applications.
Dwarves are known for not slowing down in armor, so maybe give all dwarves proficiency with light and medium armor. That would round out your "basic dwarf" quite well, and give non-strength-users a reason to pick them.
>>
>>55297773

Have one dwarf, but instead of giving them all 2 Str/2 Con, you should allow them to choose between 2 Str and 1 Wis. That should work.

13 + Shield + Dex is a solid ac for a Druid, and the Lizard man has a built in ability to craft non-metal shields

As a Dino Druid, you can use the bonus action bit attack to say, charge as an Allosaur, and if you fail to knockdown, use the bonus bite anyway, gain some HP.

Clerics can easily match/surpass the Lizard Man's Nat AC, making them decent but not exceptional Clerics. But their wilderness survival abilities/hold breath/swim ect make them extraordinary Druids.

I don't believe you get to use the 1d6 bite as your Unarmed Strike, as it is not considered one.
Thus you can't flurry for 1d6 dmg as a Monk or combine your bite with the unarmed strike improvements you get later on.

The once per rest bonus action bite is no more useful to a Monk than any other class, less so because Monks already have built-in bonus action attacks as a class.

it explicitly states you can use it for unarmed strikes. so at level 2, you can flurry for 3d6+dex damage. also, the point wasn't that the bonus action bite was better on monk, only that it was good. the heal is very nice if you can land it and helps with survivability a bit.

My whole adventuring group is close to 30 years old, and I work the same shift at the plant with half of them. Another is the wife of one of those two, and the others just happen to have fairly compatible work schedules and no toddler age children. Thus we've been able to play regularly for roughly 2 years in this campaign.

I was able to play regularly when still in H.S. and not working, but between H.S. and now I managed to have 2 campaigns that went over a full year. It's hard to get a bunch of 20-somethings together for regular games unless they are all in the same college.

It literally means the same thing as milestone exp, except he let us know when we advanced in level.

being raised as a skeleton maybe? But then the necromancer would control you every bonus action.

Lichdom is also a thing, but thats like way high level methinks.

>>
>>55298879
just because its 4chan doesn't mean everybody has to be an asshole. And considering you only ever played this once, I think you should probably listen to what some veterans think. All we're saying is don't get your hopes up for level 20. And even if you do, don't expect it to be some world changing experience, cuz its not.
>>
>>55298901
Because to us it means the same shit, and I know we are not the only ones using "chapter" for the term. I suppose we are hipsters.

>>55298905
I wasn't the one who made it out to be a world changing experience. All I did was post a theorycraft on a ninja build with level 20 in mind. Some retard took it from there and I fed him (You)s.

Mountain Dwarf Ancient Oath, Defense style.

I suppose one of the reasons is the lack of a "dedicated" healer in the party, so I'm left to waste spell slots on healing. But at the same time when it comes to combat Channel divinity is limited in it's uses and I never feel quite comfortable using smite on most enemies

You just lack the Heart of a Paladin then.
>>
>>55298925
i'd generally save your healing for bringing people back from 0. defense fight styling isn't bad. maybe try being a bit more conservative with your slots and use them for smites instead? otherwise you're just playing a fighter healbot basically.
>>
>>55298932
Because I can't monetize it?

I didn't mean you did, I meant "if" you did which isn't the case.

Still my previous statement stands. The nice dude and me are just saying, keep down your dream builds to like level 10-12 or even better yet 5-7.
>>

Which group of nerdy voice actors has managed this without losing players?

Ok, mom.
>>
>>55298925
Yeah any party without a dedicated healer is going to be boned and the ones with minor healing abilities are going to be stretched thin.
And yeah Channel Divinity is not the best recourse for offense.
I'm not sure what you mean by not being comfortable using smites, though.
>>

Magic shields adding to AC and shield master giving you a bonus action shove prone you can use before attacking.

It's pretty good for low str characters who still have proficiency in heavy armor though. Although I guess mithral splint or plate are even better in that regard.

illusion wizards are tough cuz literally it almost all depends on the DM. I would've made it to be quite powerful, but as you stated yourself, it can be moot if the DM isn't very fun loving.

Assuming they have a 14 Dex, +3 Breastplate is the equivalent of +1 Platemail of No Stealth Penalties.

Oh and my own party has a S&B Champion AC 23, an AC 21 Cleric with Defensive Duelist, and the remainder have around 18 AC.

They are just now 8th level, and it hasn't been any real problem. They had solid AC's from lvl 3 onwards, honestly.

silent image is made to look like a moving object, so there might be more you can do with it. major image is the true illusions that you can imagine. But yeah, the intensity of each spell would depend on the DMs interpretation, which is variable.

Is 5e too easy or am I too good of a player? Currently I'm playing as a Paladin 6/Sorcerer 8 and nothing so far as been a challenge. The party is trailing behind (they're only level 7) and so far I've been carrying them through all the encounters. Is it supposed to be like this or did I make an OP character?

no shit you feel powerful, your DM is a fuckwit that allowed this to happen in the first place. the encounters probably aren't too well balanced for this either.

also yes 5e is actually pretty easy, dying is hard even if you drop to 0 hp.
>>
>>55299459
A little of A, B and C. 5e encounter calculator is shit so good DMs will have to feel out their respective parties. paladin is super stronk due to divine smite. Also are you level 14 or is that two separate characters?

How many encounters you do between short rests? If only one or two, it makes sense you're gonna be OP, since you can burst like hell. If you were to go through the recommended 6-8 encounters, you probably won't shine nearly as much as you do.
