I'd love it if they found the STC template for something that's more or less blatantly a regular car at sci fi standards, and then stapled some guns on it. Maybe a rear arc one in place of a trunk and a couple of forward ones as well. You can call it something equivalent to the General Lee and it'd fit right in.

I'm currently in the process of building a super cheesy Emperor's Children army with a hard rock/heavy metal theme. I'm hoping to make cultists that are moshers for close combat squads and other general groupies for the autoguns, but have no idea how to start them beyond converting up a few empire flagellants. Trouble with Venomthropes is the 3 " range is horrifically short, and they are so squishy they tend to get shot off the board turn one and the buff is lost. Malanthropes do the job better as they also provide all important synapse, and as characters they cannot be picked off as easily.

I'm gonna be doing 3 10 man Dire Avenger squads in twin-lance wave serpents at a tournament this weekend. The other half of the list is two groups of Farseer(Guide/Doom) + 8 ShuriCannon bikes.

Would you suggest running the shimmershield, or is the squad 5+ save not worth it? I'm weighing the cost vs the loss of 4 shots.

I picked up the start of a guard army recently, and I'm playing 1000 pts against nids tomorrow. Can anyone give me some recommendations?

What I have available:
>About 50 cadians, including 3 heavy weapons squads(2 lascannon, 1 heavy bolter)
>creed/kell
>pask
>a commissar
>a callidus assassin
>a command squad
>3 leman russ battle tanks with conversion cannons available for...I think demolishers

right now, what I have is probably pretty shitty:
>vanguard detachment(Imperium)
>creed(warlord)
>Kell, commissar, callidus
>2 infantry squads, each with a plasma gun and a voxcaster

>spearhead detachment(Astra Militarum)
>tank commander in a battle tank, with a storm bolter, heavy flamer, and heavy bolter sponsons
>2 leman russ battle tanks with a heavy stubber, 3 heavy bolters, and battle cannon
>heavy weapons team with 2 lascannons and a heavy bolter

eventually, I'm planning to convert more to a steel legion army, so lots of artillery, but for now, I have no idea how to build a proper 1000 point guard list.

Nearly wiping out is irrelevant. It took like 30 years or something for Ultramarines to be back to full Chapter strength after the Battle of Macragge (proven by I AM CATO SICARIUS invading Damnos). Imperial Fists have been wiped out by Orks. Blood Angels are literally the whipping boys of the setting, they've been nearly wiped out 3 times.

Yes. One of their Chapter Masters came up against the largest Space Hulk to date and sent his entire Chapter in to clear it only to realise there were tens of billions of genestealers in it. They managed to blow it but only 75 BA were left.

Next time they were nearly wiped out by the Black Legion because BA's got lured into fighting them and I think only 100 or something survived, which left Dante as the highest ranking officer so he got CM just because nobody else was left.

Then in Devestation of Baal, 30,000 Space Marines from BA's and their successors kill tens if not hundreds of billions of Nids for the longest wave number in history (they survived 19 waves before the 20th would kill them) and only got saved by Girlyman. 5 Chapter Masters died. If we go on the 1,250 being the number of every chapter, then there were 24 chapters there.

Irrelevant as Cawl had huge vats of Primaris to give them, it was a way of justifying switching to all Primaris as BA's since BA are GW's best sellers.

My God what I have done

>Does the T'au Empire's rise in the galaxy equal, or is greater than the arrival of the Tyranids?
In terribleness? sure. But only from an outside perspective, rather than in-universe.

Tau fluff has pretty much only gone downhill. When the books changed from "Codex: Tau" to "Codex: Tau Empire" was pretty much the exact moment they started shitting the bed.

feels pretty bad, since I dug their original premise a whole lot
>>
>>55280303

>Irrelevant as Cawl had huge vats of Primaris to give them, it was a way of justifying switching to all Primaris as BA's since BA are GW's best sellers.

To the contrary, this largely eliminates the Black Rage.
>>
>>55280345
Yeah that shit was odd. Girlyman gets all picky and starts moaning about SW and BA when he speaks to Not!Cawl. Cawl just goes 'lol they look the same but everything else is gone'. Which kinda defeats the point of BA's, doesn't it? Pretty much every major chapter got crushed in order to justify Primaris reinforcements. Even White Scars have their Chapter Master 'missing' with the assumption Ko'roso Khan will take the mantle.

>Which kinda defeats the point of BA's, doesn't it?

Don't you want Primaris-sized Sanguinary Guard?

On the other hand, I can see this being a major point of contention for the veterans of the tyrannic war. You fought to near death, then you got these random motherfuckers who don't even have to deal with the Black Rage. Primaris will be segregated and treated like second class citizens with BAs and successors, despite being better in every way save experience.

Creed/Kell
Pask

Troops:
50 bodies
Elites:
Commissar
Callidus Assassin
Command Squad

Heavy Support:
3 HWTs
3 LRBT

I'd say you could run Pask and 3 tanks as a Spearhead, yes.

You can do a Battallion with the Commissar as a LORD COMMISSAR and Creed. If you can, use the Commissar as Yarrick and you can get double benefit from your orders (Since you get free re-roll 1s).

Run Kell, 4 Command Squad guys as special weapons. Probably plasma.

Actually, Ben Counter remembered them. And he didn't just include them in some footnote about *other* warbands attending some kind of event but rather included them as the military force of the antagonist, a daemon princess of slaanesh. It was a really fun and memorable read, although it drags its feet in the beginning because it opens up about a Barbarian named Golgoth leading an ambush on the caravan of an enemy tribe, and even though the cover features the Word Bearers, they're actually just a side story that doesn't become relevant until the end of the book while most of it centers around Golgoth organizing a war against the daemon princess. So yeah, I felt blindsided. But if you know that going in it will be a much better read.

But he was the High Sanguinary Priest, which is just Head of the Apothecorion. Which is dealing with blood. He's a scientist and works with the gene-seed of the BA's for hundreds of years. The fluff had him find treatments but never a cure (the cure he did find was eaten by the Nids before he got it). I don't think a Tech Marine would help. Simply that Cawl had 10,000 years, an entire Forge World to use, unlimited resources and access to the original gene-seed, Emperor's own research, supplies and so on.

Blood Angels were given the red thirst either on purpose or it was gotten via Warp shenanigans. The Black Rage was because BA's are the 2nd most psychic legion after the Thousand Sons.

And yet, GW and fans continue to make the rest of us believe that they are a force to be reckoned with. They aren't.

Not enough bodies.

Tanks: Drop the HKs, heavy stubbers. Run them as straight battle tanks with a hull LasC, and sponson bolters.

Drop the plasma pistol from the commissar.

Take a Sgt and make him a Platoon Commander.

Run a Command Squad with 4 Plasma Guns.
Drop the Vox Casters
Take 20 Conscripts, and 2 10 man Infantry Squads.

Your main guns are gonna be backfield with 36" range for shooting down your mid-tier threats and you'll have 5 Lascannon shots to deal with heavy armor.

The rest of your army will be footslogging toward objectives and/or screening your tanks against deep strikes. You can save points by dropping creed down to a regular Company Commander and buy some special weapons for your basic squads, or run everything in a single Battalion Detachment if you wanna play gunlines.

Battalion Detachment +3 CP (5 total so far including Creed) [291 points]
HQ 1:
Castellan Creed-70 [Warlord]

Elite 1:
Commissar (35)
Bolt Pistol-1
Power Sword-4

Troop 1: (90)
30x Conscripts - 90 points

Troop 2: (48)
Infantry Squad -40
1x Plasma Gun -7
Sergeant with Bolt Pistol -1

Troops 3: (48)
Infantry Squad -40
1x Plasma Gun -7
Sergeant with Bolt Pistol

Spearhead: +1 CP
HQ: Knight Commander Pask-177 (221)
Punisher Gatling-20
3x Heavy Bolters-24

Heavy Support 1:
Leman Russ-132 (176)
Battlecannon-22
3x Heavy Bolters-24

Heavy Support 2:
Leman Russ-132 (176)
Battlecannon-22
3x Heavy Bolters-24

Heavy Support 3:
Heavy Support Team
2x Lascannons
1x Heavy Bolter

I got lazy but you need 1 more HQ for your primary detachment. Thats about as good as it's gonna get. I probably wouldn't use the Callidus.

Unless you were in Nottingham HQ talking to the design team, the dude is fucking bullshitting you. My mate is a large GW manager and he said that anytime somebody goes 'oh i talked to my mate who works for GW and he said X' are bullshitting because managers at GW stores don't get told SHIT. At BEST they know 2 weeks before hand because they get material to put up in their store. They do not know sales, they do not know development, they do not know rules.

The only people who do work for Nottingham HQ.

One he said was Admech while it didn't sell poorly it did not do as well as he expected based on the amount it was talked about. It's kind of sad to see the Fate of Konor fall flat. Everyone knew it was going to be this way when they pitted the most played faction in 40k against one of the least played, and then let all the xenos players choose which side to take points from. I mean aside from Imperium players outnumbering chaos players like 10-1, they also tend to be more WAAC, as exemplified by the first 3 as well as the final planet being fought over. I must admit, though, there are enough decent Imperial players out there that they actually threw chaos a bone. It's like Tyson letting Little Mac hit him twice after the crowd started getting bored before he wrapped things up with the knockout that everyone knew was coming. As much as I want to say GW rigged this from the start, letting the players pull the lever themselves reminds me that roughly half of the entire 40k community have no sense of narrative tension whatsoever. 40k is their own Saturday morning cartoon on permanent repeat.

>>
>>55281386

>>
>>55281385
Kind of funny how it suddenly went back to being a one-sided stomp once Tallyman stopped fudging the numbers. There's not even anything about this week's mission that particularly favors the Imperium. It's just take and hold.
>>
>>55281373
here's the problem though. You're probably right, and these kinds of stories get some good (you)'s so its not too shocking to find out that plenty of them are fake. But if its NOT, and we call it out as bullshit, we potentially just lost a new player in the hobby. I'd rather give some faggot you's than have someone quit before starting. You know what I mean?

Has /tg/ had any luck running CWE with a batallion? My lgs is running a tournament in the next couple weeks that requires a batallion or brigade in an attempt to tone down cheese lists (yeah, I don't know how it nerfs IG conscripts or brimstone's either). Anyway, point is I don't run troops in my CWE army because they don't seem to do much. Does anyone have advice on how to run them that actually works now that I need 3! to run a legal list?
>>
>>55281433
It's not even take and hold. It's just take and destroy. It's a bit tilted towards the attacker since all you have to do is capture an objective once and you've destroyed it though the defender gets free daemon summoning stratagem but I know several players who don't use it because it feels weird summoning daemons as a non-chaos army.

So I ran this list today at the LGS, I won against death guard and onlookers said it looked good, but I'd still take suggestions. Crimson Fists sans Pedro felt strange.

Battalion: 6 CP
+HQ+
Terminator Captain: Storm Shield, Fist of Vengance -132
Jump Chaplain: Bolt Pistol -90
Lieutenant: MC Boltgun, Powerfist -75
+TROOPS+
Tactical Squad: Powerfist, Bolpistol, Flamer, Heavy Bolter -161
Tactical Squad: Powerfist, Boltpistol, Flamer, Heavy Bolter -161
Tactical Squad: Powerfist, Boltgun, Flamer, Heavy Bolter -161
Tactical Squad: Combiplas, Plasmagun, Plasmacannon -161
+ELITE+
Assault Terminators: 2 LC, 3 TH/SS -242
+FAST+
Assault Squad: Powerfist, Flamer x2 -160
+HEAVY+
Crusader: Multi Melta -314
Whirlwind: Vengeance -109
+TAXI+
Rhino -72
Rhino -72
Rhino -72

2000 on the head. The Assault squad didn't do so hot, even with twenty tacticals backing them. The Chaplain was worth his weight in gold. I was worried about the Crusader package, but they don't die as easily as I remember. The captain was amazing, between him and the Lt. the crusader and terminators become machines. Typhus died to the whirlwind. I can quite cram in two typhoons if I drop the assault marines and chaplain, and swap the Lt. to axe/BP. Alternatively, I can drop to Castellans and swap the MC bolter for a storm bolter.

Holy fucking shit guys. So, I had this awesome first game. My opponent made a bet, since I was playing Blood Ravens and he was playing Raven Guard. The bet was that if I won, since it was my first game, he would give me some bits to represent weapons 'gifted' to my Blood Ravens. I managed to win by one point, my opponent had a third party guy keeping track of points and that was what he told me.

So fucking excited, got some cool bits to give my guys some flavor. My next opponent is a Blood Angels player and I hope to be gifted more relics. That game will be on the 20th. Man, the local 40k group seems a hell of a lot more awesome than the WAAC MTG group at the FLGS.

If you're not playing in a GW store you can just proxy them with different models. Worst I have dealt with is MtG players being assholes, anyone in the actual hobby is pretty good, sure we give each other shit for their armies but it's more like playful banter not actual bulling. I've said it before and I'll say it again; everything wrong with the Tau fluff could be solved by having the Expansion Spheres be Dyson Spheres. Suddenly the Tau are a legitimate threat to the whole galaxy, they can field ridiculous sized armies, their lack of FTL travel doesn't hinder them since lone systems can fight off whole Crusades or Hive Tendrils and it even fits the whole high tech theme of the Tau.

>>55281662

>>55281662
In Dawn of War you can get relics that comes from a verity of sources including chaos and castodes and the only explanation is that it was "gifted to the chapter". Thus the joke is that they stole it and pretended it was a gift.
>>
>>55281662
Item descriptions from Dawn of War II. They have a shitload of relics from other chapters that there isn't really a reasonable explanation for them to have other than they stole it.

It was done by the Game Devs simply to give the loot drops some variety and flavor, but it became a meme that the Blood Ravens routinely steal everything that isn't nailed down whenever they encounter another Space Marine chapter.
>>
>>55281630
Dual battle cannons is also worse than dual rotary guns.

Also it's not technically world eaters since supreme command requires 3 hqs, and spearhead requires 1hq 3hs and his Knight is a low. Wait. Are there two auxiliary detachments here or are you forgetting the rest of his models?

they work better than they did in 7th. the removal of the vehicle damage chart and individual weapon facings have made them a lot easier to play. It's much rarer to say, lose a tank in one shot, since even the meatiest anti-armor weapons just don't do enough wounds on their own. in 7th, for instance, it was common for me to give up a Slay the Warlord because my TC would get slain by a lucky lascannon snap shot or otherwise.

despite this, losing the ability to fire all guns (only turret) and move without penalty has really hurt non-TC russes, whose sponsons hit on 5's. Plus tanks in general got more expensive. You still get a lot of firepower but in general the russ is... more inefficient than it is really bad. I think they got better from where they were in 7th, but vehicle heavy armies really only made the progression from 'bad' to 'mediocre', I think.

besides, you should never be worried about viability. if you want tanks, take them, learn to play them, and cherish your army. Having a painted force that is truly yours is worth more than the temporary trappings of meta viability. that is my soapbox stance as someone who just plays whatever the fuck they want

It's such a shame because I feel like Russ' just need to be tweaked to be viable. What it does "well" it does mediocre compared to other units while also being more expensive outside of the Punisher and maybe the demolisher. And once it hits half wounds and starts hitting on 5s its basically just a paper weight, and despite vehicles being harder to kill outright getting a Russ down to half wounds is not a difficult undertaking.

>>
>>55282153
Obviously I'd try a different store. Even 1 douche bag ruins a scene at an LGS as it basically becomes awkward for everyone when they walk in.

There's two kinds of stores; those with regular people in them, growing and learning, and those that act as safe spaces for autists, where they continue with their behavior, don't receive feedback, and continue to stew in their retarded little echo chamber. Eventually, the second kind of store produces people that aren't really viable humans, and you should avoid at all costs.

The game is fun and the hobby is great, but you are under no circumstances obligated to lower your standards in person to person contact just to play, or feel like the community should have a lower standard of social ability.

>>
>>55282325
Yeah, just make the cooler looking ones.
>>
>>55282237
Night Lords will require far more work to get them to look right. Alpha Legion is exactly the opposite, you could field anything and call it a disguise. This is why I recommend Alpha Legion as one of the best CSM armies to play because you don't have to (and shouldn't) use the terrible range of miniatures that the CSM are still forced to use. If I were you, not only would I play Alpha Legion, but I would just buy, say, a single squad of plastic Chaos Space Marines, maybe some special Alpha Legion shoulder pads if you can find them, and then build the core of your army entirely out of loyalist miniatures. Don't even change the iconography---in fact, you don't even need to paint them in alpha legion colors. All those bits would be for if you wanted to involve miniatures that weren't disguised, or perhaps convert miniatures that are only half disguised.

>>55282235

>>
>>55282372
To play the game is to play alpha legion.
>>

If the community is good, it's worth the trip. I know dudes who drive an hour plus on the weekend to come out pretty regularly. I don't recommend it, but if thats how it is that's how it is.

Right now I have about an hour train ride to my closest option, and I don't speak the language too well. But its a fun way to try and integrate and the collections there are painted and the tables are patrician as fuck. So when I have a free sat and the wife is busy, I'll make the trip.
>>
so that 1k no named character/no fw campaign I am joining has a planet getting dominated by a conscript guy, and a planet dominated by an ork guy, and a planet full of nids. if you were playing death guard where would you set up for the best early land grabs (you can attack anyone after you get a space port)?
>>
>>55282372
To forge a narrative. You could easily play an ultramarine force as an Alpha Legion warband. In fact, that goes for any of you Space Marine players out there. All you have to do is buy the CSM book and you have an Alpha Legion army.

The only downside to this approach is that it's centered around a specific narrative which would get stale after a while as compared with fully-dressed alpha legion, which would be far more malleable. Still, it pays to have something to indicate they're a bunch of spies.
>>
>>55282367
It was just a guy pretending that orks get a looted vehicle stratagem.

>1/3 CP (can only be used once, choose the value)
>Can include any one/two non-character vehicle units in your army, from any army. If you do, units included with this stratagem gain the CLAN <___> and ORK keywords. Their BS is set to 5, but the number of shots for any ranged weapons the vehicle has is increased by 1.

t. """leak"""fag

I want GW to do something this cool too, but they won't.
>>
>>55281741
Or just use a Vanguard Detachment.
>>
>>55282397
Not the fucking conscript guy that's for sure. Nids will probably be hurt the most by the cute free mortal wounds coming in the DG book, and their smaller assault units will probably get their shit pushed in by DG chads. It's not like you care about getting shooting units tied up either.
>>
>>55282237

>>55282347
>Night Lords require far more work to look right
NL anon here, and I can confirm. The end result is awesome, but it is a pain in the ass. If you actually like Night Lords, then go for it because once you get your technique down, your shit will look baller. If you just want some rules that are cool and are just going to slap some paint on and call it a day, then don't bother because here are better rules to abuse.
>>
>>55282397
I think we need more information
>>
>>55282411
Unless you've got the wherewithal and talent to paint them in a way where they look like marines in the uncanny valley (slightly wrong shade of blue, subtle reworkings on the chapter symbology) they're just marines.

If you can do the work, then do it, because it would look great, but at the same time, don't just buy a start collecting box with aquilas on and claim it's something it's not.

If a conscript model in a unit suffers multiple mortal wounds, do those mortal wounds carry over after the model dies?
>>
>>55282458
I can't help but think most of the time it'll just look like a bad paint job
>>
>>55282458
Well it'd be worth it if the other player was on board for something wacky. Also, it allows people who only have space marines to fight for chaos in the Fate of Konor campaign.

Just in time for it to not make any difference.
>>
>>55282491

>>
>>55282495

>>
>>55282491
>>55282514
Normal damage doesn't carry over. Mortal wounds do.

What's stopping it in the case of conscripts?
>>
>>55282481
Tyranids seem like the easiest target, don't know if it's possible but maybe try for an alliance with the orks against the conscripts?
>>
>>55282548
The reason I'm asking is that the Gifts of Chaos power assigns mortal wounds to a model, not a unit.
>>
>>55282548

>Mortal wounds do.
You asked if a model in the unit took mortal wounds.
That's different than the unit taking mortal wounds.
>>
>>55282549
everyone in the game has agreed to not ally with anyone, but I will set up between the nids and orks and see what I can do. Do you think melee plague marines will be all that good against either of those groups or should I stick to out ranging them? I am somewhat new

>>55282564

things that never fucking happened: the trilogy
>>
>>55282479

Nothing flashy, no. My initial prediction was correct in that the penalties are much better used as a bonus and not a plan. Twice I've gotten the ideal setup with raptors, a Lord with the 2d6 trait, and some termies nearby and both times it was irrelevant. The first I wound up just killing the unit, and the second he auto passed with CP. However, I've managed to kill quite a few models just with the extra -1 or -2 from teaming on models, which is great. Note that I'm only counting models that ran away due to the negative.

Also, I just want to give props to the Claws of the Black Hunt because S5 Dd3 lightning claws are fucking awesome.

I don't see it. It has a 6 inch range. Against characters with t4 (pretty standard), you have to manifest the power (72% chance), and then roll a 5 or a 6 (33% chance), for about a 1 in 4 chance of killing a <4 wound character with it.

The new first turn rules are kind of shitty. I prefer having non-random first turns.
