Playing a lot helps.

Playing with someone experienced and willing to take the time to explain the rationale of some moves as they're being done can be invaluable too I would say.
If you have no choice in the matter, looking at game videos commentaries that do that.

Worst I can say is post Mumbad asset explosion + tentative asset rebalance overtly favored boosted asset spam, but apart from purely competitive play, that didn't prevent some very interesting decks to exist - which we can now in the more healthy meta.
