Ehh, while he probably doesn't, I wouldn't be so quick with that estimation. Overall casualties for "The Battle of Stalingrad" had about 800,000 dead and missing across both sides (and a lot more wounded and captured, of course), and that's across a battlefield that's spread out over 60,000 square kilometers and lasted a bit over 5 months. The Battle of Armageddon took what? A week or two? 100,000 dead (on one side) in that space of time is way more intense than Stalingrad.

I was going to say "read The Cursed Earth and The Day the Law Died", but I'm gonna take a different angle: get Complete Case Files 24 and 25. These two books contain The Pit, a condensed story about how a Sector House operates. Dredd is sent to command the worst Sector House in the worst Sector of MC1, and sets about to purge both in typical Dredd fashion.

Also, Dredd hates the idea behind robot judges, but what are his views on heavily augmented judges? Is it just the brain being replaced that makes him cranky?
>>
>>55281775
He doesn't feel that robots should be able to make the decision to kill. That, to him, is a human's job.
>>
>>55282392
So a human that's basically a brain in a jar is okay to be a judge in Dredd's eyes?
>>
>>55281775
I don't recall him ever having problems with borged Judges or ones with heavy augmentations like cybernetic limbs, so I guess it's just that giving robots the power of exercising law enforcement rights over humans. Note that he has little problem with non-Judge robots, except maybe with Walter for being a wimp and Precious Leglock for wrestling him. He even praises the Cursed Earth war droids for being harder than Walter.

This is Judge Dredd so everything?

I remember however a storyline where a Judge went catatonic and irrevocably insane; so they removed her brain and put in another Judge who had suffered mortal injuries.
>>
For people who don't know, Dredd's clone brother Rico had a daughter named Vienna. She was out of Uncle Joe's life for many years, but they eventually reconnected and she's one of the few people that Dredd attempts to be a normal human being around. This in turn led to some of Dredd's other clones forming a kind of family around her and occasionally trying to do things together. Hence Vienna's Christmas party in >>55287471, attended by Dredd, Rico II, Dolman (the bearded guy - a Dredd clone who didn't want to be a Judge, got a face change and went to space) and her newest luckless boyfriend. They tend not to stick around too long for some unexplainable reason.

>>55288436
I think that was one of the reasons that Dredd did what he did the first time, to try to spare her the insanity of that life. Of course, that only made things worse, but hey ho.

Was MC1 the only one to have such a hard response to Judges going bad? I know Brit-Cit positively encouraged bent Judges (hell, the city was created by the most powerful criminal gangs who had balls of British steel) and I was reminded that Hondo City had the yakuza infiltration problem, but I can't remember any other city going as tough on bent law enforcement as MC1. The Psi-Judges are all basically muties. If you're lucky, you end up like Cassie Anderson who is basically the best-adjusted person in the whole of Mega-City 1; if you're NOT lucky, you end up like Corey (an empath) who is the star of that big kick in the balls that was storytimed in this thread from >>55272883.

Laurel specifically is much too old to enter the academy of law so, sorry, no tight leather uniform for her.
I suppose there could be mutant judges after the reforms Dredd introduced. We haven't seen any yet though
>>
I've got time for one more quick one.
How about some Mean Machine?
You may recall Mean Angle met an ignominious death near the end of the Judge Child Quest. Proving you can't keep a bad guy down he soon got over that. He was a thorn in Dredd's side for a number of years before having a run in with Batman and winding up in the cubes where some bright spark thought it would be a good idea to try and reform him.
Let's see how that goes, shall we?

I have a hard time wih Judge Dredd. At first glance I assume it's all an over the top parody, but the comics... But man, the more I look, the more I think either the author or the audience started to take it seriously.

I can't tell who is making fun of who anymore.

>>
>>55297760
Different writers take things in different directions. You have to keep in mind that Judge Dredd has been going for 40 years.

The same thing happens with comics where you've got Adam West Batman right next to Dark Knight Returns.

That being said Judge Dredd has always been a social satire at its silliest, it has never been 100% random shit happening all the time for no reason.

Sure, it's nice and safe and you get three meals a day.

On the other side, you'll be locked in a small room with barely enough room for a bed. You'll be left without any human contact apart from a talking head on the wall that either tries to convince you to be a better citizen when you're eventually released, or if your sentence is severe enough, tries to get you to agree to euthanasia to save the city the cost of imprisoning you.

Iso cubes aren't designed to be fun.
>>
>>55298217
Good lord that life sentence thing is a depressing concept. Depressing because it makes you think about the fact that life sentences already exist in real life, and that you have to question whether or not the Dredd version is really less humane than what some countries actually do.
>>
>>55298563
Probably more. After all, they'll donate a bunch to a charity or loved one.

Also it neatly sidesteps around wrongful death penalties. Since it's a voluntary choice.
>>

>100,000 dead (on one side)

But he said "Judges and Mega City troopers." Were the Judges fighting the Mega City troopers then? I thought it was 100,000 on their side. Fuck erecting statues for the enemy. There's no telling how many enemies were killed. Since Judges are suppose to be really elite and all, they probably accounted for several of the enemy. And that doesn't take into count all the robots and shit that probably took part in the conflict as well.

I like it. It has somewhat weird feel when you have read older british war comics. Helps to remember that 2000AD came from somewhere too, and had its inspirations as well.

Hell yes, loved that shit. One of my first wanks was to a naked G.I. woman in one of the panels of a collection I had. And the bants between RT and his biochips was topnotch. Having said that, it kinda suffers from the same problem a lot of the lesser-known 2000AD stuff does: Whilst the worldbuilding, atmosphere, dialogue and drama are all topnotch, the actual plotlines are kinda meh. Same thing applies to Slaine, Sinister Dexter, Shakara etc.
