Overall casualties for "The Battle of Stalingrad" had about 800,000 dead and missing across both sides (and a lot more wounded and captured, of course), and that's across a battlefield that's spread out over 60,000 square kilometers and lasted a bit over 5 months. The Battle of Armageddon took what? A week or two? 100,000 dead (on one side) in that space of time is way more intense than Stalingrad.

I remember however a storyline where a Judge went catatonic and irrevocably insane; so they removed her brain and put in another Judge who had suffered mortal injuries.

For people who don't know, Dredd's clone brother Rico had a daughter named Vienna. She was out of Uncle Joe's life for many years, but they eventually reconnected and she's one of the few people that Dredd attempts to be a normal human being around. This in turn led to some of Dredd's other clones forming a kind of family around her and occasionally trying to do things together. Hence Vienna's Christmas party in >>55287471, attended by Dredd, Rico II, Dolman (the bearded guy - a Dredd clone who didn't want to be a Judge, got a face change and went to space) and her newest luckless boyfriend. Was MC1 the only one to have such a hard response to Judges going bad? I know Brit-Cit positively encouraged bent Judges (hell, the city was created by the most powerful criminal gangs who had balls of British steel) and I was reminded that Hondo City had the yakuza infiltration problem, but I can't remember any other city going as tough on bent law enforcement as MC1. Although the East-Megs probably just took them round the corner and shot them.

You may recall Mean Angle met an ignominious death near the end of the Judge Child Quest. Proving you can't keep a bad guy down he soon got over that. He was a thorn in Dredd's side for a number of years before having a run in with Batman and winding up in the cubes where some bright spark thought it would be a good idea to try and reform him.

I have a hard time wih Judge Dredd. At first glance I assume it's all an over the top parody, but the comics... But man, the more I look, the more I think either the author or the audience started to take it seriously.

I like it. It has somewhat weird feel when you have read older british war comics. Helps to remember that 2000AD came from somewhere too, and had its inspirations as well.

Hell yes, loved that shit. One of my first wanks was to a naked G.I. woman in one of the panels of a collection I had. And the bants between RT and his biochips was topnotch. Having said that, it kinda suffers from the same problem a lot of the lesser-known 2000AD stuff does: Whilst the worldbuilding, atmosphere, dialogue and drama are all topnotch, the actual plotlines are kinda meh. Same thing applies to Slaine, Sinister Dexter, Shakara etc.

Why is Dredd so god damn good? It should be stupid and campy, but it still winds up being some high quality comic-kino. The noir shit is the best, although I still like the cheese.
