I'll probably have my first real game with him tonight. But in 1v1 with my friend who has a low powered deck I consistantly was able to perform degenerate comboes. Still need to acquire anthroplasm and sage of hours for that infinite combo, but I'm not 100% sure I want to be doing that. There seems to be a few of different ways to take him though.

I have played a couple one vs one games with him and played him a few times in 4 man pods. He is much stronger in multiplayer allowing you to activate him every turn if you have a untap effect and a guilded lotus or decent mana rock caged. (Thought it rarely wins its worth the tough time to brew him.)

Is pic related a good deck for a new player? My friend wants to jump into commander and I really don't want to discourage her but I'm worried that this deck might be too weak compared with other C17 precons.

Weak is a good place to start when you're still learning the format. It lets them start brewing and thinking of what to clean up and replace. Plus, you're there to help figure out what works and what doesn't and suggest replacements. The commanders in that deck are perfectly strong, so it isn't like they won't end up with a good deck eventually. And it won't break the bank.

It doesn't tap for mana unless you have Urborg out so I would just run Miren. Are you using it in a combo to gain infinite life or just for a sac outlet/value? High Market and Miren is enough for those reasons imo. White decks can use pic related as a budget replacement. I've got it in a cleric deck that can make infinite toughness creatures because I don't want to spend 300$.

I had a friend who lives across the country visiting and introduced him to mtg by making him a ravnica themed Gruul beats deck that I made from random cards I had lying around.

While we were building it he told me he had a roommate who was always bragging about his super bad-ass vampire deck that never lost, so I made the deck assuming he was going to be playing against a heavily tuned vampire deck.

Later he told me that his Gruul deck went 15-0 against the vampire dude and his roommate refused to play anymore.
Apparently the vampire deck had zero curve and was just all his vampires thrown into a pile, he only had 1-2 of each, I made him a deck with 4x Lightning Bolt, 4x Burning-Tree Emissary, 4x Rancor, 4x Ghor-Clan Rampager,
4x Bloodbraid Elf etc

I'm pretty sure. Targeting comes before cost payment, and payment before actual casting, I'm pretty sure.
If not, then I've just given everyone a free counterspell to negate their Epic spells. :^)

Also, I suppose ideally you'd want either the snek spell or to have hexproof before casting.

I just don't feel that meeting those requirements is easy enough to warrant this guy being mythic.

well you're wrong because it's not very strong. the ability would be good if it wasn't latched onto a tap ability on a 5 cmc creature. he's just too vulnerable to removal and board wipes, and the next time you cast him he'll be 7 mana.

I'm not talking as a general. Just as a random card in a deck. And I said too strong if all your buffs were in effect (cheaper, little cost, no timing restrictions). And I don't even mean at competitive tables, but at more normal ones where Greaves is a staple and creatures that need to survive a turn don't need to win the game on the spot.

I'm mainly upset by the comparison to Triads who has an understatted body, needs 2 turns to do anything, needs mana to activate, hits only creatures and draws your opponents cards to boot. It is a disingenuous comparison, just because it is a creature that doesn't have haste, protection or ETB.

3v1 is relative. I didn't particularly need their help, but Brago is literally a bunch of assorted uncommon frost tappers, it's worth like $150. I just wanted to make sure some wiseguy didn't decide to nuke Brago while I was also going to be dealing with whatever Animar had. I've had the opposite happen before where I dropped brago, and some tard playing a jank deck decided that was the perfect time to cast pacifism on him, and Maelstrom Wanderer then ran away with the game while I debated between getting rid of the pacifism and Maelstrom's Burgeoning.

She decided to purify them, and unfortunately the best option to do that seemed to be murder. The joke is that people actually were impure, because Emrakul's influence was already affecting them in Shadows before she even arrived.

I have fun with Ayli. A cheap deathtouch commander makes a great roadblock. Doubling life gain and creature recursion is fun. That said, it just plays as a weird deck with random wincon (creating 50/50 tokens with that one artifact, aetherial reservoir killshots, killing with Debt to the Deathless, etc.).
The lifegain is more to endure longer and fund expensive things. Still gets blown out by commander damage though.

It depends on the deck though. If my commander has something built in (i.e. card draw), I'll go lighter on it in my deck.
It also depends on colour, there aren't that many "wraths" outside WB. Red has Act of Treason and the new Star of Extinction, Blue has some bouncing and rift, green has nothing really. I'll put what I can into the deck but they won't meet the thresholds. Boros doesn't get much card draw so I can't put 10 cards in unless I use shitty artifacts like Jaemde's Tome
