I have never waited so impatiently for army shit before. I saw the first trailer like 6 months ago and have been waiting to build my army since then. I had a Death Guard army back in 5th and sold it...because poorfag....bills and responsibility.

regretted it ever since.

I have had a budget to build my army on...and in the last 6 months it has dwindled because I started building another army to tide me over....now the army is about to drop and the release is like 3 times the size I thought it was gonna be. I only have like 300 bucks to put towards it now...and I am afraid that will only get me like 1/2 of the release (and that is with ebay prices) I am anxious

You know what? Leaving concerns about sales and popularity aside. 40k would truly be better if there was no such thing as Space Marines. The most elite troops humans could field would be Tempestus Scions, who fight back against the enemies of humanity with tactics, technology and superior firepower. Chaos would field Possessed as basic troops, probably upscaled a la Warriors of Chaos in WFB, along their dameons and daemon engines. The Emperor would still be an alien, unknowable and superior figure, and there would be no such thing as Primarchs.

Just imagine. No snowflake super soldiers, no relentless shilling and mary sues, no "battles over the soul of mankind" waged by mutated freaks while the actual humans are left in the background and ground into the dirt. AdMech, Assassins, SoB, Inquisition, all of them there, with no pauldrons to render them redundant. Chaos driven by the forces of an unknowable terror, not daddy issues.

A man can only dream.
>>
>>55258345
So basically WFB in SPEHS.

Yeah, I'm sure transplanting the game no one played and had to be replaced into space would be an """improvement""""
>>
>>55258345
it'd be dead
>>
>>55258345
The game/setting would be worse for it if marines were removed entirely.

However it could 100% do with toning down the ridiculous amount of focus it puts on every fucking variant color/flavor of Marine at the expense of other factions.

this is all true, unfortunately marines are a parasite that have been in 40k since day one, 40k has absolutely outgrown them but theres really no good way to get rid of them, even BL writers say they are boring, maybe primarus is the beginning of turning marines into an elite imperial unit and eventually be phased out

Admech warrior orders and their Malagra and Myrmidax magi would probably be the most elite, given that Myrmidons can take down two or three Astartes at once at least. A "whole squad" of Emperor's Children, anyway.
Still, I do agree that it would be much better. but the writers would never even consider toning back the Marines. Also, they're ABSURDLY boring. They don't do anything besides fight by writing thirty renditions of "and then he shot him with the bolter and/or punched him", and as they always win by writer wank there's no excitement in that either.

Hey, /40kg/

So I've decided to "bootleg" Battlefleet Gothic. I say bootleg because I've realized I'd cost me way more to buy these antique miniatures off of ebayso my solution to this is to just make the ships out of paper.

No, we aren't talking dedicated pape mache Imperial Retribution Class Battleship, but just plain old 2D blank paper with a drawing of a Imperial Retribution Class Battleship. I'm shit at drawing, especially detailed space cathedrals.

Anyone got any tips for drawing the ships, astroids, debris and obstacles from a birds eye view? I'm thinking the ships will be something around 12 cm long and 5-8 cms wide, fighters will land around 3-4 cms long and 1-2 cms wide.

Anyone see any problems that might arise from this?

Space marines are integral to 40k. Without them, the whole setting is just my mom's grimdark space fantasy.

There are many mary sues outside of SM too. Remember Tau? Eldar? Even the IG has some mary sue characters.

That said I enjoy it when the focus is not on the astrates. Considering there are less space marines in the entire galaxy, chaos or otherwise, than normal humans on some agri world in the bumfuck nowhere sector, their role shouldn't be as central anyways.

Should I buy a nurgle start collecting or should I focus on finishing my Death Guard?

Any advice? I found some slightly bigger magnets but it looks like they would take another month to get here and I was hoping to use these soon. It seems like it's just a little too weak to hold up the arms properly.

Also, thoughts on my Carcharadons? There's still a lot of small stuff to do but I'm really proud of how he turned out. It was my first time doing edge highlighting so that looks a little shaky up close.

As an example, someone born in 2000 would be 17 now.
Facebook and smartphones would've taken off when they were around the age of 7. Humans have no real memory before 4 years old, so they would have 3-4 years of childhood before the social media explosion. Not at all enough for it to be meaningful on their memory.

These individuals can drive, many work, some are preparing to go to University.

There's going to be a big gap between pre-network and post-network people. Historical memory is a powerful thing.
>>
>>55259260
what have you actually bought? If you bought all your death guard stuff, don't go out and buy more shit because then you'll always be behind in your building/painting. If you're trying to decide whether to buy the rest of your death guard or nurgle, then its up to you, both are fine options.

Pretty sure guys magnets ships worldwide and even the tiniest neodymium are more than strong enough to hold minis together. I bought some of the 2mm by 0.5mm and they're N35

>>
>>55259271

Size doesn't affect magnet strength. The reason your magnets are weak is because they are low quality. Look for "rare earth" and "neodymium" magnets. Even the tiniest ones will cause arms to fly to the torso and hold tight enough that they won't come off without actual pressure, assuming you buy actual good magnets with a high grade.

What do you all want to see from the Drukhari codex? What do you think seems likely?

I represent the True Kin on the table top. I'd really like to see Haywire Blasters changed. I think they are next to worthless. For the life of me I can't see why you would ever bring them when any unit that has access to them could take a blaster for marginally more points. Haywire blasters are so niche, in my opinion they ought to be Assault D3 and perhaps 2 fewer points.

Other than that I'm overall pretty happy with the codex. I've had a lot of fun getting back into 40k and putting my Dark Eldar on the table. Would like to see some of the special characters return and all the neat wargear that the faction used to have like webway portals, soul traps, and deepstriking transports. I also really, really would like there to be some HQ options mounted on a skyboard or jetbike or be allowed to take scourge wings. Craftworlds get this in spades, no reason Dark Eldar couldn't get the same treatment. It's especially tragic for the Succubus who struggles to ever keep up with Reavers or Hellions in order to hand her aura buff out to them. A bike option would be nice.

I dunno, I'm not an IGfag (Tau) and I do wish Marines weren't as central. Personally, I came in from WFB, where the Empire was just one faction among many, so seeing that like 70% of the lore, sales and focus was on SMs of one stripe or another left a sour taste in my mouth.

It's like, there's an entire faction that's dedicated to being cyborgs and the superiority of the machine and have the aesthetics and strategy to match, and then there's these space marines we painted gray and their schtick is being cyborgs and the superiority of the machine. You think that the ones to have an army of psykers would be the Eldar, who in lore are all psykers? Nope, have some marines with a different paintjob, there's your psykers. Fanatic witch-hunting zealots? We can focus on the literal Inquisition and battle nuns, orrrrrr we can instead have these marines painted black who are the fanatical zealots.

It gets old after a while.

That ought to get you started

I'm trying to put together a red scorpions list and could use some help.

So far I have CM Culn and Magister Loth as my HQ, two apothecaries, and a land raider (can be any type) for my main group of melee dudes. I don't know what elite to pair them with, I have some cataphractii, some asscents, and some assmarine models.

I have two tac squads with MM + combi meltas that will go in a drop pod, and a scout sqad with snipers in the back.

No buffs, just ran them forward towards me. Dread Mob has virtually no shooting so I charged right back. Made contact with a Gorkanaut into 1 mob of 3, and my Meka Dread into the other 3 strong mob. Lost 3 wounds on the Gorka to overwatch from 6 heavy flamers, Meka Dread took 2 wounds too.

The Naut went first and managed to kill one PE, then he burned 2 CP to attack with the other mob. They absolutely slaughtered the Meka Dread, then he rolled a 4+ and piled into the Gorka, which got utterly demolished as well. The other 3 strong mob then consolidated into a Deff Dread that hadn't quite managed to make contact and turned it into scrap.

Next turn he just assaulted forwards into another Dread and 4 Kans. There were no survivors.

I turned around with the rest of my force (Morka, 2 Dreads, 4 Kans) and with some good shooting managed to get rid of 2 PEs. Then I charged in and the Kans demolished 2 more. He burned 2 more CP to kill a Dread, then my Morka finished off the other 2 PE.

By this stage though he'd moved up with melta sisters and opened fire. In my turn I had a single Kan left; it charged a 13 strong mob of sisters and died to overwatch. We had a good laugh about the way the game went but bloody hell did I underestimate those murder machines. They're pretty fragile againt shooting though; it's just that Dread Mob has so little shooting that it's hard to whittle them down on the way in, and charging them really hurts.

ADB wants to make Chaos the auto-win faction in every single scenario where they are featured. He's not allowed to do this, for obvious fucking reasons.

So what he does is do the "CHAOS WILL WIN ANYWAY LOL THIS DEFEAT MEANS NOTHING HAHAHA" because he's massively butthurt that he isn't allowed to turn 40k int Chaoshammer 40chaos: in the chaos darkness of the far chaos there is chaos chaos chaos.

He's basically Trudeau in space when it comes to Chaos.

>Imperium smashes the Chaos invaders
>Obiliterates millions of cultists and paints the ground red with CSM blood
>Reduces their ramshackle fleets to smoking scrap
>Kills the Chaos Lord

>"HA HA you think you won? Guess again while you slaughtering my armies I was secretly picking up a magic sword and bolting for the Eye therefore I actually won!"
>>
>>55262126
To Trudeau's credit, I assumed he was talking about enemies trying to martyr themselves and make their opponents look bad as killers on a global stage. Killing their enemies in that case is giving them exactly what they want.

Knowing 40k writing, some asshole is going to treat a silver lining as a complete victory.

This. Before the HH books Horus fell to Chaos because he was prideful. During this time in the lore, Chaos had always been the logical end for someone who is prideful or someone who takes something to an extreme. In essence they were a cautionary tale that moderation is good. In the books Horus was instead tricked by a mastermind. Horus dindu nuffin.

The HH books are in my opinion the primary reason why things have gone to shit lately. Instead of writing an interesting plot exploring how a genuinely good man like Horus could fall to Chaos, they just wave it away and go "lol le cult le brainwashed him". Fuck the HH books.

Guess again
>>
>>55262145

I think a lot of the anger in the community to the retconning of the Black Crusades is that it was never once hinted at previously that there was some grand purpose behind all of them. They were simply large scale attacks from the Eye into realspace. There's nothing wrong with that concept; it fits the setting, it's still a threat to the Imperium even if they manage to defeat each of them, because the Eye is never going to stop spewing them forth. There's even a sense of inevitability about it, similar to the spread of Chaos back in Fantasy.

Now it turns out each and every one of them was a gigantic success. It came out of fucking no-where and just comes across as a desperate attempt to make Abbadon into a tactical genius instead of simply a brutal warlord. Bit similar to making Ghazghkull into a tactical genius because see, he MEANT to lose the 2nd war of Armageddon because he was just gathering information on how humies fight right, then he comes back and fails to take Armageddon again, but it's ok, he MEANT to not take it because now the whole planet is engulfed in war, and that's what Gork and Mork want, because they're now guiding him directly and saving his arse from the Templars and Yarrick, and the voices Ghaz hears really are the gods speaking directly to him, and the Orks don't have to win any battles, they just need to make warzones right.
>>
>>55262170
Yeah I agree but the writing was so hamfisted and poorly implemented. It make Abaddon seem like a failure despite his "successes". He could have just thrown all 9 legions at Cadia in one gigantic campaign and blown it up. How the fuck did the 12 other crusades lead to this point? They hardly do. The writing is shit.

They're more relatable, and because the characters aren't super-humans, the threats they go up against don't have to be gigantic. They both also give some contrast to the grim-dark, Cain more so than Gaunts admittedly, but contrasting the grimdark makes it stand out more. I felt genuinely moved at the death of Cain's trainee commissars in Cain's Last Stand for example, or the Imperial pilots hammering on the sides of their burning aircraft as they fell out of the sky in Gaunt's Ghosts. Another scene that works because it's just regular humans is a scene in the Gaunts Ghosts novels where an armoured regiment clashes with a Chaos armour force lead by a traitor Baneblade. The scene ends with the Imperial tank commander managing to crack open the side of Baneblade, and he's laughing because he's managed to actually hurt the thing. A moment later he's obliterated, but the damage he's caused is enough for another tank to shoot through the hole and blow up the super-heavy. That same scene loses it's impact if it's Space Marines doing it, because you EXPECT super-humans wearing power armour to do stuff like that as par for the course. When it's just a regular human commanding a converted tractor, you're rooting for the human because the balance of power is so stacked against him.
>>
>>55262283
That means he wasn't interested in the first place.

>>
>>55262232
It's funny because the more they try to make Abaddon look like Sun Tzu crossed with the Juggernaut the dumber and more pathetic he looks. For example, in Fall of Cadia, right after his big "throw rocks at it" plan he's chasing Celestine and co. up a ridge. Out of nowhere the Ynnari jump in, and then the only thing he can think to do is "charge n' sheeeit" right up the ridge into the teeth of their guns. Not once, not twice, but three full times until he just runs away once most of his men are dead. Not only does he not come back but he has the Vengeful Spirit parked orbit and the two sides just stand out in open for more than three hours and he does... jack shit. Presumably he was too busy crying in his room.

You can feel the tactical genius.
>>
>>55262500

Exactly. Cain has plenty of grim-dark in it ( Amberly casually mentions the name of a major sanitorum in the sector where psychologically broken guardsmen are sent to which also is the sector's largest servitor production centre.) but it also has moments of levity, which throws the grim-dark into contrast and makes it hit harder. If everything is shit, then it's hard to make some aspect of the shit seem more shit than the rest; it all just blends together after a bit. It's why I don't like 15 Hours very much as a Guard novel; it's just so depressing that you get numb to it after a while.
>>
>>55262534
See this is what Dredd always did remarkably well: making its grim dark funny in a non-goofy manner. Sandy has straight up referenced Judge Dredd in Cains books (arbitrator foreboding) and honestly does one of the best jobs at copying that style.

It's a shame people don't recognize how 2000 AD all the Cain books are
>>
>>55262534
It also makes the ordeal of humanity seem so pointless. There's no point relishing a victory if the outcome is just more suffering. If anything, battle IS the respite, and that sort of story arch wears thin rather fast. I think it's partly why Tau are such a popular army - people are getting bored of grimdark. I think Darm Imperium and Guilliman's rebirth are GW's tentative steps to make the setting less exhausting for lore buffs.

>>
I'm wondering if they are going to make the overlord transport mentioned in dark imperium, they are said to be able to transport 40 primaris marines.

I get that some aspects of ADB's writing are predictable, such as having a tough-girl sidekick for his SM protagonists (see Lotara and Nefertari), but what about ADB's writing is so damaging to the lore? I find his stuff tends to range from the cool (see Khayon's demon card deck) to the downright interesting and philosophical. Hell, First Heretic may as well be a literary representation of the knight of faith in Kierkegaard's Fear and Trembling. What am I missing about his stuff?

>At the 2012 Black Library Weekender, Swallow confided that he lobbied hard with Black Library and Games Workshop to let him "kill" Fabius at the end of Black Tide (Novel) (because of the sheer evil of Fabius's actions), but was refused.

hahhaha

Its closer to the intent and pro-Chaos bias at times.

I think a physical Webway portal would be a cool thing to bring back from 5th edition, which would likely be artifact of course. As much as I hate special characters, it would be cool to see Baron, Malys, Vect and THE DUKE return in plastic. Archons need a new aura because a Ld buff in a fearless army is fucking worthless. As for their mobility, I can see them with Wings, but I don't see them on a bike or board because that is an arena thing. They're supposed to ride around with a court in their own personal Raider or Venom. Succubi on the other hand, there's no reason they don't have bikes and boards besides models. Speaking of courts, though. They need to be handled better imho. As it is, they're way to expensive for what they do, and the whole group of characters thing is weird.

Right, I get that. I guess I tend to see that stuff as a part of the larger theme that is Imperium vs. Chaos:

Humanity creates its greatest enemy through all of the same emotions, passions, and policies that make it strong. Humaity is afraid, partially of itself and partially of the unknown, which causes it to adopt the kinds of strategies which cause chaos to become more powerful. in doing so it guarantees an enemy which fulfills all its fears.

I don't think chaos can fulfill this role if it is ineffectual. How does chaos represent all of the most dangerous aspects of humanity, unchecked by ethics, if it is a series of pointless raids? True, not every battle has to be part of some secret master plan, but it has to be more than an armless mustache twirler.

The guy is missing his other leg, thats why he is kinda sitting down. and doesnt walk a lot.

>>55262747
At that instant I asked that guy to measure distance from something for me because he was on the other side of the table.

>>55258380
I know exactly what shop that was in. I saw the gallery from the game that someone posted the other day. This is all the people.

>>55258373
even though I don't like the Tau, this just makes me dislike Cato even more, would Guillimen really be proud of Cato doing that? always thought he was the more reasonable

also I'm assuming she was some water cast diplomat or something

What happened to his leg?
>>
>>55263236
If I remember correctly it got crushed by something when he worked on an oil rig like 15 years ago
>>
>>55261558
Don't forget a hobby knife to remove the sprues and moldlines, this is honestly one of the most important things to get right when starting
>>
>>55263133
Ah. Now I feel like an asshole. At my LGS I had the extreme misfortune to play That Guy who had to measure everything to the last millimeter. Constantly. It is the only time I ever considered using my Monolith to beat someone's skull into a new shape.
>>
>>55261558
Hooray, wire cutters with one flat side are the best kind of clippers to get. The ones they sell at the GW stores are amazing but pricey.
>>
>>55263271
Everyone has their own experiences. If someone did that to me I would club them with more than my Monolith
>>
>>55262170
I don't know, personally I prefer them being a mixed bag, where some of them were targetted raids trying to get stuff (like the Blackstone fortresses and Drachnyan) and therefore successes, and failed attempts to push towards Terra.

Making Abaddon think more strategically than a moron berserker and having him have qualified successes mixed with false starts makes him a bit more worthwhile as a villain. Capable enough to be frightening, but not so grotesquely favoured by the writers that every failure and defeat was intentional.

>The guy is missing his other leg, thats why he is kinda sitting down. and doesnt walk a lot.
I will accept this excuse.
>>
>>55263166
That poor fucker in the back with the red shirt. He wants nothing to do with the rest of those guys.
>>
>>55262356
I'm more impressed at the unaugmented 1H bolter firing, unless he's got a bionic arm or something, which is totally possible. Sisters and Marines do that shit all the time, but they have power armor, especially the latter because of the whole black carapace thing.
>>
>>55263510
It's a propaganda poster, dude.

Cain don't even use a bolter.

He was actually one of the organizers along with the tall guy in the black V neck shirt. The store manager had us all scream Blood for the Blood God to scare the people in the building next door.

Good people, every one of them. Adam, one of the organizers has started doing batreps on youtube at Nights at the Gaming Table.

He told us that they tried to get GW to send them stuff and they told them if they got like 500 more subscribers by december they would start sending them codexes to review on the channel a week prior to their release.

>>55263831
nice, subbed because the first video is a cool old dude playing Khorne Daemons.

What a beautiful league of rejects.
In all seriousness though it looks like a fun and inclusive group despite the autistic facade.
