Admech obviously can't match Conscripts by the score and their requisite support troops, but they're pretty good as medium troops go, have good support and may be able to augment their Knights a tad in addition to or possibly with their Forge World buffs. Also, lots of opportunity for cool fluff and conversion work with Sacristans and Stataraga Magi. (Knight House to Admech liasons, including people like pic related.).

You could take some Sniper Rangers to put holes in enemy buffs while you sweep up chaff as Troops and then go for Corpuscarii or Vanguard blocks to deal with hordes, then toss in some Onager AT or AAir specialists or Dragoon skirmishers.

Hell, if we can give them <FORGE WORLD> or something you could have rerolling 2+ Sv Knights with Cawl and Shroudpsalm. That's probably not happening, though.

Personally I might put together a full House Malinax lance to go with my Admech anyway, since I've already got one regular Knight magnetized and half-painted. Given I now have access to recasters I'd probably add a Castigator, Atrapos and Acheron since I like them and leave the standard chassis to the Scion Aspirant.

Reece isn't from GW, he runs Frontline gaming, a third party distributor that happened to create the Independent Tournament Circuit which uses a standard set of tournament rules which a lot of the major players have accepted. GW got him and his partner and employees to playtest 8th edition when it was new.
I can not confirm his opinion on tau.
But he doesn't have enough sway to really control that sorry of thing anyway.

Admech walker APC like pic related, two builds.

#1 is light transport with an autocannon or HPBlaster or something, carries 12, walks forward 8/6/4, does assorted stuff, etcetera. Basically a walker Dunecrawler that's got 3 fire points to Dakka skitarii specials and such from, although it can't carry Katas or Sicarians.

#2 is a mobile Void Generator replacing the carry bay. No transport cap, but throws out a 6" bubble (around a Dunecrawler's already respectable base) that provides a +1 to Saving Throws to Admech vehicles. Boost your transport phalanxes, Kastelans striding alongside or standing back to shoot, Ironstriders dashing forward and fending off enemies, Onagers stalking forward laying down death, all of that with 3+ 5++ at worst and an average of 2+ 4++.
That one would be more expensive and have no actual guns aside from maybe a stubber or two, but it would let Skitarii pull devastatingly tough steadily advancing gunlines at the cost of leaving behind buff bubbles, heavier infantry and the ability to run more than D3" on basically the entire army.

I basically took the head from a normal meganob and switched it with the head of a regular warboss model (decided to ditch the standard Iron gob feature because I knew I wasn't good enough to figure out a way to attach it and make it look good back then), and then took the warboss' bosspole and figured out how to attach it to the Mega-Armored warboss' back.

Granted, this was back in the day when those models were all metal and not sold in actual boxes (so 2004-2007), so that kinda makes a difference between then and now.
