I hope pirates become viable in legacy or modern. I'd actually buy into the game again. I used to play U/W counter rebels and R/B vial goblins.

Do you think €25 is a fair price for a prerelease? My LGS is doing that for Ixalan and I've never been to one (or played the game).

Seems a bit much to me for just 6 packs and a plastic dice.
>>
>>55251097
just after SaffronOlive made a deck around it
hmm
>>
>>55252502
>just 6 packs

Only if you lose.
>>
>>55252502
Don't you also get 2 after the prerelease? My LGS dose that, so you actually get 8 boosters (8*4 Eur=32 Eur instedad of 25)
>>
>>55252552
Is that in addition to the winner prize pool?
>>
>>55252547

>>55252552

>>
>>55251090
This would ALSO be better if it was shortened to just "Only one thing beats the freedom of the sea".
>>
>>55252617
You choose weather you want 2, or the number of wins. Then there are separate tournaments depending on the format you chose.
>>
>>55252502
I pay 25€ in my LGS
I get the prerelease pack (don't forget you also get a seventh rare as a promo in addition to 6 packs and a dice) and at least two boosters even if I'm dead least
Also don't forget you get to play and have fun all evening

Let's break that down
>Payment: €25
>6 boosters: 6*3.5 = 21 or 6*4 = 24
So for 1 to 4 euros, you get
>1 cardboard box
>1 dice
>1 promo rare
>2 boosters
>An evening of fun
Pretty worth it to me

>1 dice I already have
>1 promo rare that doesn't cost anything to the store and will be shit

I've been to the store the other day and it smelled very bad, they didn't even keep the door open. I want to start playing but damn.
>>
>>55252868
Yeah, pretty much
It's basically this aggro deck that gets ahead on tempo from attacking
>>
>>55252888
Damm, that's shit store anon, feelsbad. My LGS has well mannered people that mostly only play draft and commander.
I also happened to get Nicol Bolas, and white Horse as promos (Played 2 prereleases, 1 normal, 1 two headed giant with friend).
>>
>>55252928
Well, the front door was open but the rear one where all the people were was not.
I dunno if it's that bad.
>>
>>55252888
>>1 cardoard box you don't want and will never use
That's your opinion
I like prerelease boxes and I do use them
>>1 dice I already have
No, you don't
It's a spindown dice with the set symbol, it's not possible to get any before the prerelease
>>1 promo rare that doesn't cost anything to the store and will be shit
You can't be sure it's shit before seeing it
I don't get what you mean by "not costing anything to the store" and why you're complaining about it
>>no other packs unless you win
Shit store
>>a sleepless night spent with smelly neckbeards when I could be at the club filled with fresh pussy for free
1)Shit store
2)Just go to the club then
>I've been to the store the other day and it smelled very bad, they didn't even keep the door open. I want to start playing but damn.

I'm starting collecting Magic, I'm starting playing.

>>55253052
How many do you need? You can just use a phone app, the opponent will cheat about his life anyway.
>>
>>55253046
The fact it's a multicolored common should've tipped you off, since this isn't a multicolored set.
>>
>>55253071
*I'm not starting collecting Magic
>>
>>55253071
>How many do you need?

It's not about that, it's about dice being plural. "1 dice" should be "1 die". With how much dice factor into the majority of /tg/ hobbies, it should be common knowledge to anyone on here.
>>
>>55253071
>I already have cardboard boxes from a fat pack.
They are not the same kind at all
>Lol who cares about the symbol on a dice, are you guys actually this autistic?
Some do, others don't
I do
>I already have a Eldritch moon dice, how many do I need?
One is enough most of the time
Two are needed when you play lifegain
Then it depends on you
I like having a lot because of collection and I want to use one linked to my deck colors/sets
>>
>>55253071
I fill my deck box with dice. They are useful as counters.

>>
>>55253078
There are some multicolor cards in most sets.

>>55253071
Dice is plural. Die is singular.

For some reason your posts reminded me of this MMA guy that shows up for pre-releases and such at my LGS. It's the weirdest thing to have this giant ass guy with hands twice the size of mine playing magic. Owns his own martial arts school too - I went in once to check it out and mentioned magic at the front desk and the woman made a little gasp and said all quietly "We don't talk about that here."
>>
>>55253085
>*I'm not starting collecting Magic
You'll understand soon enough that collecting and playing Magic are deeply linked
>>
>>55253109
>There are some multicolor cards in most sets.

At uncommon or higher.
>>
>>55253109
>There are some multicolor cards in most sets.
At uncommon anon, and only because WotC realized putting 10 multicolour uncommons in each set helped players to identify the themes of each multicolour draft pairing.
You only get multicolour commons in multicolour sets usually.
>>
>>55253128
>>55253134
Ah, yeah, I suppose I didn't think about it like that.
A shame.
I have a massive boner for multicolored cards. I'd love another Alara.
>>
>>55253109
>the woman made a little gasp and said all quietly "We don't talk about that here."
What the hell
>>
>>55253147
I think she was half-joking but the dude does actually keep his magic hobby on the down-low. Supposedly the only people who know are a couple of his friends, his wife (who was the woman at the counter) and us assholes at the LGS who have no chance in hell of signing up at his studio.
>>
>>55253093
I hate tabletop and card games, generally. I even hate rpg videogames. I love Magic as a collectible.
I thought dices was the plural. I saw die used but I thought it was a mistake. Happy to have learned something new.

>>55253106
But there's no appeal in what people mentioned. I understand you like dice, good for you, but the only objectively good thing are the packs and possibly the promo, but let's be honest here, what is the percentage of good rares in a set and what are the odds of getting one?
>>55253109
That is hilarious. If he's the owner why don't they want to talk about Magic?
>>55253116
I don't think so.
>>
>>55251163
Siren Stormtamer
Skyship Plunderer
Hope of Ghirarpur
Storm Fleet Aerialist
Favorable Winds
Aethersphere Harvester

Then we have as possibilities
Jace, Cunning Castway
Heart of Kiran
Unsummon
Censor
Nimble Ostructionist
Sky Skiff
Ornithopter
Metalic Mimic

It seems viable, it's sounds really bad against ramunap tho.
>>
>>55253164

T. Magic player that has to choose between going to training or to FNM on Friday
Choosing is hard
>>
>>55253164
Like your shock shows, crowds of different densities don't tend to mix.

It's an easy choice to avoid pissy controversy, or better yet, pissy contrarians, when you have income dependent on image.
>>
>>55253182
>I hate tabletop and card games, generally.
>I love Magic as a collectible.
>>55253085
>*I'm not starting collecting Magic
So which is it?

>But there's no appeal in what people mentioned. I understand you like dice, good for you, but the only objectively good thing are the packs and possibly the promo
Then MtG as a whole is probably not appealing to you.
>>
>>55253185
We need psionic blast reprint
>>
>>55253182
>That is hilarious. If he's the owner why don't they want to talk about Magic?
Image and appearances, I assume.
>>55253189
Well, like your conflict, mtg and other /tg/ hobbies tend to consume the free time that would be spent working out and such. In all honesty I'd sign up because my doctor has been on my ass about exercising, but it's $100/mo - and then I'd have to get a separate gym membership somewhere to work out to build the strength/endurance to progress in the classes.
>>
>>55253182
Check to see which way your LGS does things. You could either end up paying €25 for 8 packs and a promo, or 6+X packs and a promo where X is twice the number of bodies you stepped over to claim your packs.

I've never been to a prerelease where I left with fewer than 10 packs.
>>
>>55253218
I meant it as not starting now because I've been doing it since 00, with a long hiatus after future sight.
I collected Pokemon and Harry Potter TCG too, never played a game even as a kid, the appeal was in the collecting element.
>>55253235
Buy a pullup bar and do bodyweight to build strength. A bar is like €10.
>>
>>55253254
Sure but I've never played before, I don't think I'll be able to win even one game, and that's okay but I won't get more than 6 packs.
>>
>>55253258
No place for a pullup bar in my shitty apartment.
Also I can't do pullups.
>>
>>55253276
Prerelease are there to help new players learn the game
It depends on if you're able to find people that want to teach you
>>
>>55253283
Start running and doing push-ups then
>>
>>55253276
Yeah, that's why I was saying to check. They could have the casual/beginner version where you get your 2 extra packs regardless.
>>
>>55253276
>Cant win a single game
If you listen to any podcast or read any set review before the prerelease you will be leaps and bounds ahead of half of your store just for knowing what tricks and removal spells are in the format. If you have a grasp of how to play then youll get more packs pretty easily.
>>
>>55253182
Fuck off retard
>>
>>55253283
There are two kinds of bars. Don't you have a single door?
Everyone can do pullups. You have to start with a chair and only do the "coming down" movement for the first two weeks. You can do it, trust me.
>>55253293
The owner seems welcoming, at least. Even though he has insane prices. He tried to sell me a MM17 box for €220 saying it was the last he had lmao. I told him I had to "think about it" and bought a MM15 one for 200 from another person.
>>55253313
>If you have a grasp of how to play then youll get more packs pretty easily.
I don't. If I open a pack I can't tell by myself what cards are actually good what are not.
>>55253341
Love you too.
>>
>>55253276

Reading each card carefully when you make your deck and knowing what a mana symbol is will probablybe enough to net you one win. There are some real dumb people at prereleases.
>>
>>55253309
I already checked, no such thing. 2 packs for each participant in the jackpot, 8 players or more, first 4 win packs, 16 players or more, first 8 win packs.
>>
>>55251097
Nice to see Coatls are a thing afterall on Ixalan

Also seeing as this affect all your flying creatures this will get some use, especially with Locust God around.
>>
>>55253372
>Even though he has insane prices. He tried to sell me a MM17 box for €220 saying it was the last he had lmao.
It's not insane, it's literally the average price on MagicCardMarket
>>
>>55253408
ooooh, in some izzet tempo, where locust god is the top of the curve, this buffs him to a 5/5 that pukes out 2/2s haste flying every turn.
>>
>>55253227
At least ask for something cool and flavorful like Sunken Ruins.
>>
>>55253472
>Sunken Ruins
how will this help mono blue flying aggro/temp
>>
>>55253434
>average
That's your problem. You never look for average, you always look for the second lowest.
You can get a box for €195-200 and reprint sets will not raise in price, paying more than 200 for a box that was sold at 170-180 is retarded.
But what made me laugh was that he acted as if he only had one box left and was doing me a favor, he also phoned to someone, meanwhile he probably has like 20 boxes in the back. It was hard to not burst out laughing then and there in the middle of the shop.

As a sidenote, how do the shipping costs on magiccardmarket work? They seem much higher than on decktutor. I wanna buy a MM17 box.

Yes, let's disregard the existence of different couriers and how different businesses can have special offers on shipping costs.
I'm not paying €11 for shipping for a €200 purchase in 2017 (unless I really need that item), I'm not called Timmy.

Back to /pol/.
It's diverse pirates, white dino kangs that will bring the apocalypse and even whiter vampire bros that are questing for their relic that makes them not need to drink blood, all fighting against merfolk that guard the city of gold.

If anything it's black women killing non-human natives for a city of gold while conquistadors try to stop other natives from ending the world.

No. You mean prime as in drunk and stupid.

I worked security at a bar, and I'd never EVER get involved with some tang that I met at a club. Either you're getting an STD, or you'll have to deal with bullshit. The best way to meet ladies is to exude confidence, walk up, and ask them on a date after establishing a report.

Alternatively, Tindr, and be honest about your interests. Don't post a fedora-tier suit picture, show people exactly what you look like, give them a brief look at what your into, and be open to just about anything. I'm very successful, partially because I'm a giant, but mostly because I'm not a sperg about it. I advertise that I'm into animals, art, and literature, then I just talk about what they like until I decide whether or not I should ask them out. It's not hard.

Online dating in all forms is ghastly when you're shorter than most women and ugly as fuck.

Shit place
>>
>>55256870
Unless you want to infiltrate a high school and end up in jail, that is.
>>
>>55256636
It's better because you have context. At a club you're stuck with whoever happens to be there at the time, and often those people have ulterior motives. I'm used to getting yelled at, so it's not as intimidating, but getting rejected in person can be crushing if you aren't prepared for it.

It literally is human trafficking but that's why you have to be discerning. You need to make sure you know what you want, and have a meaningful conversation before you meet up. 9/10 aren't going to go your way, but one in ten is just about perfect.

>>55256799
>Online dating in all forms is ghastly when you're shorter than most women and ugly as fuck.
Dating in general is probably ghastly from that point of view, but just go for girls in your range of attractiveness. Develop interesting hobbies and have similar interests so you can get to know them first. Cooking is an easy one, because everyone likes to eat, but art is another good outlet if you have talent, same with writing. Worst comes to worst, get a cute puppy and use it to introduce you to new girls.

Unfortunately being as old as I am, I no longer have a circle of friends and I work from home, so the opportunities to meet women are more or less non-existent. To make matters worse, I live in what amounts to a bedroom community that's 90 minutes to two hours away from any major city so there aren't even events I can go to to meet people. No adult dancing lessons, no cooking classes, etc.
Shit, man, I can't even play magic at a store because there's just no one here. There's a small group of like 10-12 people that play modern, but that's about it.

Creatures are the lynchpin of mtg as well as pretty much every tcgs.

Dudes/wizards/monsters/etc fighting is fundamentally what the genre is about.

I cant think of many games that don't take the formula of "here are your troops, and you can use non troops to support them."

Mtg as designed makes creatures the most interactive card type, as creature combat is built as the foundation of the game.

"Vegan" decks were always meant to be a niche, mtg was non creature heavy so early because they (understandably) didn't know how to develop so well, yielding stuff like Ancestral recall and Craw Wurm in the same set

WotC is really bending the color pie this time. I mean they're free to do so, but Raid makes less sense in Blue than Evolve does. Peter Pan? Treasure Island? Pirates of the Caribbean?

That's not what the plot says. And no, they don't. They fit in after the trade routes are established and there's something to plunder.

Mirage came out 21 years ago man
>>
>>55259968
It's literally a set about the age of exploration. "Age of Exploration world" was the actual name for it while they were making it. The plot started off with Jenna yelling "Vampire Conquistadors" and them working out from that.

The main plot being Conquistadors on galleons looking for a lost city of gold on an island filled with natives while being accosted by pirates didnt tip you off to that?

Its probably the closest set in all of mtg for a plot that actually happened in real life. They just magiced it up.

Pirates, the Spanish Empire and Natives in the New World go together because Pirates the Spanish Empire and Natives in the New World literally went together.

The golden age of piracy was IN Spanish new world colonies. All those treasure chests were full of Spanish gold taken from Mexico. Its where "pieces of 8" comes from.

The only real "tacked on" element is the Dinosaurs, and thats more of a pull from the Lost World genre that overlaps with the same narrative.

WOTC basically copy pasts irl history and runs it through a "magic filter" and you find it "tacked-on?"
>>
>>55260049
I was talking in general.

Like we was saying eh was too ugly to date and I was saying ugly people date all the time.
>>
>>55259968
There's civilization and most definitely trsde routes around their continent of origin and they are driven to Ixalan by their captains following a call for tremendous fancy shiny booty somewhere at the end of their known world.

Their motivation is basically the same as it is for One Piece's pirates.
>>
>>55259943
Why wouldn't there be brown people in a setting based off of South America?
>>
>>55260103
>The plot started off with Jenna yelling "Vampire Conquistadors" and them working out from that.

The idea that Wizards starts set design by having their employees sit down in a board room and shriek random ideas like they all have learning disabilities really makes the past few sets make a lot more sense.
>>
>>55260103
>>55260130
It's actually about evil Vampire invaders looking for a magical artifact they already know the natives have so there's no real mystery there, with Pirates existing because they're cast-offs from the Vampire conquest of the 'mainland'. Nice try, but the Explore mechanic is misplaced because there is no frontier, and the pirates are tacked on because nobody's established trade routes to plunder yet. That shit came AFTER the gold started flowing from Mexico, not DURING.

Read moar.
>>
>>55260269
Amd yet Vraska's gang as well as Asgarth's are both explicitly in it for the relic, one to get it for Bolas and because Gorgons like shiny shit, the other because he wants to get off the plane already.
>>
>>55260304
Vraska is tacked on too. Deal with it. Bolas shouldn't even be a thing in this set, and her working with him makes no sense whatsover. Total asspull.
>>
>>55260329
Didn't she want to wipe out the Azorius or something? Oh fuck... Ral Zarek and Vraska working for Bolas. I really don't want another shitty Ravnica episode. Not after Jace the Living Guildpact.

>>55259968
They've been harping on the explore vibe pretty hard. The advertising and articles all reference the explore and discover the unknown angle.
>>
>>55260224
Not all sets, but every 2 years they have an off site meet up.

One of the events lets any r+d employee get 5 minutes to pitch an idea.

Someone pitched "cosmic horror innistrad" with Emrakrul

Someone pitched "mtg's version of steampunk"

someone pitched "Vampire Conquistadors"
>>
>>55260425
Exploration implies a frontier. The fucking not!Aztecs and Merfolk ALREADY LIVE THERE. Plus the Vamps already know the artifact is there. So what's the 'surprise'? Where's the adventure. It's a stupid 'Around the world in 80 days' or 'Great Race' lampoon. Meh.
>>
>>55260269
The Vampires landed a while ago, they have colonies and everything.

You cant say Pirates are tacked on in a setting based in the Spanish new world because the Golden Age of piracy was IN the Spanish New World.
>>
>>55260329
By that logic the Eternals and old gods of Amonkhet were also tacked on because they're not actually egyptian and making Bolas the main antagonist behind Kaladesh was also tacked on because the only reason for him to interact with the plane was because he wanted one specific device and Nahiri on Innistrad was also tacked on because her wanting to destroy it was just petty revenge and Kiora being on Zendikar as BfZ happened was also tacked on because she only was there because they needed some Merfolk representation.

Calling shit you don't like "tacked on" is retarded when the pirates are a core player in the larger concept of Ixalan's story.

I'm not disagreeing with you on that, I'm disagreeing that the Vamps feel established enough to warrant piracy and massive pirate factions being a thing yet. Feels more like a better idea for a second block set. You disagree. Carry on son.

>>55260502
Your opinion is retarded too, by that logic. Every opinion is retarded by that logic. And don't even lean on slippery slope to save you. "I don't like thing' is always acceptable. Do you see me telling people not to buy or play this? Nah, just saying it's shit bro. Deal with it. Oh wait, you obviously can't. And yeah, Bolas having anything to do with Kaladesh was fucking stupid, and so was Kiora. Also don't forget Tamiyo on Innistrad. Also dumb. The rest of that stuff is actually fine.

Its a mysterious island with a legendary city of Gold and treasure that no one knows the location of.

Thats a direct pull from Age of Exploration stories of El Dorado, The Seven cities of gold, Quivira, The City of the Caesers, La Canela, Paititi... Spanish Imperials looking for Cities of Gold in The New World is a story told since the 1600s.
>>
>>55260592

>>55260571
>characters with interdimensional travel powers are stupid when they show up outside their home dimension
>>
>>55260610
Not. Really.

You still have to find the thing, and the idea that it's in a hidden city of gold isn't as confirmed. All they know for sure is that they had it and it's gone. Maybe the dude who stole it fell in the ocean, and drowned.

The fact that the exploration has a known end goal doesnt make it less valid
>>
>>55260591
You're saying that one group of people having knowledge of something invalidates the aspect of discovery for everyone else. That's like claiming that WotC employees' knowledge about what's in a new set will remove any sense of surprise or wonder what the contents are during spoiler season.

>>
>>55260758
No secret or unknown thing will remain as such forever, of course it's going to lose its sense of mystery once we know of it.

The entire draw of any unknown thing is the time before finding out about it, with that as the ultimate goal. Speculating about what cards might be in the set based on what was shown already or how the story might progress just going off of what we know from interviews and flavor texts is what makes spoiler season interesting. Us having this very discussion proves that speculation about the unknown is still interesting even when knowing the ultimate goal.

The Vampires have had the colony for years, they have forts, an entire coast called Queen's Bay, and an impressive as fuck colonial capital.

The pirates serve a mechanical need (giving 4 factions) and its a natural place to put pirates (as they cant hold a set by themselves, pirates by design need a civilization/set up to pirate upon).

I disagree Pirates can be tacked on in a plane that is a top down design of both the place and the time that yielded the golden age of piracy.

Its like calling knights tacked on if they did a plane based on Midevil Europe.
>>
>>55260571
Tamiyo is a moon sage, Innistrad has a major big deal for its moon.

Part of the whole point of walkers is to have interactions between natives of different planes.

Tamiyo's Japenese style moonfolk ness was a good way to play off Innistrads gothic horror werewolf style moon magic(and it also let us have some Kamigawa shout out without needing a full return.)

Having Kiora, a sea themed walker from Zendikar, go to Theros and get involed with a greek style sea god and Krakens and stuff is a perfect example.

Or all the hints about Ugin on Ixalan.

Tezzeret made a good villuan for Khaladesh given his artifact focus, and he set up the big bad by leading us to Amonkhet since he works for Bolas.

It was pretty fluid.
