Anyone here know Genestealer Cults? I'm looking to get into them after picking up Deathwatch Overkill and not finding a buyer for the tyranid half. I already picked up an extra squad of Genestealers, and I've got Militarum Tempestus from my general Inquisition army to use as Guard, but what else is good?

Mr. Ward, responsible for changes from old fluff that few people liked. He's become a boogeyman of the game, a name given to every fluff change people don't enjoy and arguably the reason that GW no longer states who did codexes.

He made a bunch of codexes that were very balanced against each other, and incredibly enjoyable to play, but they were very powerful because of how much of the fluff was given rules and other codexes that were not designed by him struggled to compete against his codexes in terms of power.

Grey Knights, to this day, are still recovering from GW removing what Ward did to them, and struggling to find a new identity without either army-wide The Shrouding or powerful HQ buffs.

>>
>>55242245

>>
>>55242245
as far as i know it mostly depends on the store manager. Be polite and ask him before i say
>>
>>55242227
Nobody uses logic or language in the order that you're trying to twist it into to get that to work. Even the GW rules would have put the "if it is the closest target" clause at the forefront if this interpretation would correct.

It would read something like "If target Death Guard unit is the closest visible unit, enemy units must target Death Guard unit with their shooting attacks". We have precedence.

Trying to make fake RAW interpretations is so pointless and dumb in the era of instant FAQ, constant FAQ, and where GW is literally repeating themselves over and over saying RAI trumps RAW and they will FAQ that shit into the correct RAW form to reflect RAI if they have to.

So I was looking at Raging Heroes' Gothic Cathedral kickstarter, all cardboard with plastic clips so you can assemble and take it down however you need it. Is this idea as close to old Necromunda terrain as anyone has tried in all these years? I mean, I figure not everyone needs a gothic cathedral, but since this ks was a success, they'll probably do another one later that is far closer to what you'd imagine for a Necromunda board. Or is there any other company that has done the cardboard with plastic terrain idea well?

It's noticeable that Matt Ward is claimed to be responsible for a lot of ultramarines wank, despite it havign been in the setting for quite some time. His Space marine codex defaulted to Ultramarines Unless Otherwise Noted, simply because Ultramarines clung closest to the Codex Astartes and that book was representing forces that follow the Codex Astartes, unless otherwise noted by their leaders.

Lore is neither here nor there for oldcrons vs newcrons.

So what do you want from the Admech codex, fellow bloops? Personally I would kill for some way to make Dragoons either more stabby or cheaper, and a way to access Skitarii units without a Dominus. Some kind of "Orbital Command" HQ option, where instead of a model you just pay for a round of buffs and maybe some orbital strikes or something, but it still fills the comp slot.

Would also be happy with an Alpha Primus HQ, but it might be interesting to not have a model attached at all.

EC's theme should be more about debuffing the enemy than DG are. Like lasting effects from weaponry and close combat weapons.

Yeah it's really weird when +1S or +1T matters. My first instinct when I looked at High Marshall Helbrecht was that +1S on melee attacks was great, but it really depends entirely on the opposing army composition. Not to mention it throws off the calculations for best power weapons.

Yeah, without +1S axes are at a slight advantage, but with +1S it's either swords for infantry or maces for T6-7 vehicles. Not to mention you can take a chaplain dreadnought for another +2 strength, but then again going from S5 to S6 isn't such a big deal except against guardsmen or super light vehicles. Maybe with +2S from Helbrecht and chaplain dread it's best to go for maces to get that S8 AP-1 or axes for S7 AP-2.
>>
>>55243022
It's not poortly worded. It's perfectly worded. There's no fucking ambiguity possible.

"You can only do [action] if [condition]" means you CAN'T do the action unless the condition is fulfilled. There's no way to misunderstand that, except by doing a willful effort to misunderstand.

Shit, it's so fucking clear that you might as well punch people who "misunderstand" this rule and ban them from the group because they are proven cheaters.

>>
>>55243189
Not retarded, sadly. But dishonesty, rule-bending and actual cheating are somehow part of the WAAC mindset when GW games are concerned.
The worst thing is that those guys are so obsessed with finding exploits where there's none that they aren't taking the time to be actually good at the game. And that they tend to take their mindset with them when switching to other games.

RIP Corsairs

I had just started converting a Corsairs army when FW deleted most of the unit choices (FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-). Fuck it, I'll just finish the army and hope an updated IA restores them. For now I'm thinking of running the following 1k list, with the Autarch standing in for a Corsair Prince. I haven't played 8E yet though and I hear infantry are actually good now so maybe this list is shit. Any comments?

>Outriders 999/1000
>[HQ] Autarch ("Prince") - 106 - Banshee Mask, Forceshield, Fusion Pistol, Power Sword, Swooping Hawk Wings
>[Tr] 5 Skyreavers - 87 - Felarch, 4x Shuriken Catapult, 1x Shuriken Cannon
>[Tr] 10 Skyreavers - 168 - Felarch with Dissonance Pistol, 7x Shuriken Catapult, 2x Flamer
>[FA] Hornet - 150 - Crystal Targeting Matrix, 2x Hornet Pulse Laser
>[FA] Wasp Assault Walker - 114 - 2x Shuriken Cannon
>[FA] Wasp Assault Walker - 114 - 2x Shuriken Cannon
>[HS] Warp Hunter - 260 - D-Flail, Crystal Targeting Matrix, Spirit Stones

Not sure I really would have enough dudes on the table to cap objectives but basically the idea is the Wasps deepstrike and blast infantry, the Skyreavers try to close the gap and assist with killing infantry, and the Hornet + Warp Hunter kill big targets. The Autarch is there to basically distraction Carnifex for the bigger guns and/or charge and kill basically anything from TEQs and light vehicles to MEQs.

I'm not saying that I'm special because I'm a math tutor; I'm saying a shocking number of students I've tutored in college level courses don't have a basic understanding of algebra. All the while, they proudly comment about how they suck at math and will never use it. This applies to one on one sessions and sessions with an entire class. I'm a math tutor because I understand math we'll enough to teach it to other people. That doesn't make me special, not should I be considered special for knowing basic algebra. That's the point I'm making here.

>90 IQ

It used to be that someone with a high enough power level to seek out a place of degeneracy like 4chan would be of above average intellect, even if they chose to act stupidly on 4chan. But with how mainstream this site is, only sub-100 IQ Neanderthals can explain the current state of this site.
>>
>>55243688
The average IQ is 100 by definition and people that are merely below-average now might be considered retarded by another decade's standards. Not sure how that would work.
Anyway, the problem isn't intelligence. The sentence we were arguing about is pretty damn clear for anyone who has a functional knowledge of English. But that won't stop anyone who doesn't want to understand for whatever reason. Be it looking for advantages or bragging about how smart they are for finding an exploit. I mean, shit, not too long ago we had people arguing that 6+1 didn't qualify as 6+.

I'm looking to play a VERY elite army, as a result I'm thinking either Grey Knights or Custodes.

Grey Knights have paladins and the Dreadnight while Custodes have better dreadnaughts and land raiders, and considering I heard from Gencon that their forgeworld units are going to be coming to 40k soon they might be a solid option.

Can anyone help me decide if either are worth it for a full army?

Pick a fucking number,, you can probably find a source for it. They're of "however much power is required to make the story utterly boring" most of the time.

Personally I find a good metric in one of the HH books where a Marine is rushed by around 200/300ish malnourished civilians and they do kill him despite losing a few dozen.
So I'd imagine if those people were trained soldiers with actual weapons considerably less.
Certainly doesn't justify taking a proper planet at anywhere near modern levels with anything less than a couple chapters or a Hive/Forge World with anything less than a few score, but hey, bolter porn gonna bolter porn.

I think it's just that kids don't want to put in the effort anymore. When I went to school I thought math was too hard and had the same rationalization that "I'm never gonna use it anyway so why bother". When I got into college I actually took the effort to take notes in class and suddenly math became the easiest shit in the world. Algebra's honestly as simple as understanding what goes into what formula to get the desired result. For a lot of people, they may never actually use the formulas verbatim but the course teaches people how to solve problems by taking the issue apart piece by piece and how to read between the lines, and that sort of shit is absolutely invaluable to anyone.

Well it seems fluffy enough, even if it does lack Lootas. I understand that since lootas are pretty bad now, but still, they're the iconic Deffskull unit.

Effectiveness-wise it's pretty poor. Trukk Boyz are bad this edition, both because of overpriced transports and the fact that 10 Boyz can't really do very much (and will suffer badly from Morale. Even with a Warboss nearby you'll be losing D3 extra models per turn).

Gorkanaut is better than a Morka. Both of them have pretty awful ranged weaponry, but the Gorka is a real blender in close combat with its 2 extra attacks over the Morka. Deff Dreads are just terrible; they're completely overpriced compared to other options out there.

All of our flyers are pretty terrible. The Wazbom is no exception.

Sadly from an effectiveness perspective the only answer is "spam Boyz" so if you're going for the fluffy option then anything is fine. Just don't expect to win many games.

>>
>>55244254

That's bad sportsmanship, but I see literally nothing wrong with conceding (particularly if you have time for a rematch). If you roll literally all 1s on turn 1 after failing to seize and your opponent basically wins by t2 then why play 4 turns of mop up? If you're concerned about narrative then even the Guard have tactical retreats, just say
>the Tau surprised the Imperial contingent with an alpha strike and wiped out the FOB. The regimental commander was executed for dereliction of duty and the remainder of forces retreated to the local stronghold. Now we're playing the rematch, at the local stronghold.
>The Farseer's predictions were incorrect and the Dark Kin obliterated the entire scouting party. Most were cut down in the retreat; only a single Ranger made it topside to relay their fate to the fleet. The Eldar quickly rallied and sent a party of Wraiths to retrieve the spirit stones before the Drukhari left.
etc
(This also gives you an excuse for list tailoring for the rematch kek)
>>
>>55244359
Fucking how? Like I said the vacuum effect of the intake is mostly negated by the air velocity of the object moving through it. Birds rarely get sucked into a jet engine for example, it's just a fluke that the engine and bird happened to intersect paths.

>Rhino rush, wait for enemy to plink down and explode!

>>55244232
i think lootas are pretty good, you can reroll the no. of shots and its D2 and S7 so you wound non vehicles on 3s and vehicles on 4s
>>

When did that happen? I'm wondering what else I'm behind on.
>>
>>55244365
>It still counts as WYSIWYG right?
No. The old broadside was already bulkier than a crisis and it's visibly smaller than the new broadside. Your crisis with a railgun will be significantly smaller than a current broadside model and, since it's a conversion, you're past the line of "modelling for advantage".

They basically completely rewrote him to be more reasonable in the 8e Grey Knight codex.

Basically, he acts like a daemon now. He can only show up where the walls between reality and the Warp are thin, and then only until they resolidify. He's very good at dealing with daemonic incursions, sure, but when he finishes mopping up the threat he gets pulled back too.

With the Great Rift cutting the galaxy in half, he's had a lot more time in realspace lately. He doesn't consider this a good thing.

That depends entirely upon whether or not your army can bring a reasonable number of lascannons or lascannon equivalents.

How well can you spam mortal wounds? Also bring lascannons. It only has a 5+ invulnerable save and 8 toughness. Not too hard to get through.

The idea of the chainsaw tip isn't the problem it's how it was executed on the new model. The art you posted looks decent and actually looks like it can cut/pierce shit unlike the new model.

Here's the heavy armored-themed list I'm thinking of taking tomorrow. Do you guys think it's fair with 4 LRBTs and a Baneblade chassis? It's tricky trying to bring cool an thematic lists that aren't "spam", which I know people don't like.

I'll accept the return of any 50+% of the old USR's in the form of Stratagems, Relics, or whatever.
Used to have access to 18 Relics, now 0. Used to have 9 Canticles, with varying efficacy, now 6 with automatically minimal.
No more Scout, Crusader, Zealot, Mindscrambler Grenades, Dunestrider, Rending, Precision Shots, hardly any Feel no Pain, Luminagen, Haywire, Furious Charge, Neurostatic Aura, Stealth, Move Through Cover, decent Cognis, Mindscanner Probes, Conversion Fields, Digital Weapons, Master-Crafted, Dataspikes, no Doctrina Imperatives, and obviously nothing at all from the many Formations that the significant majority of the armies were based on.

Did most armies receive a similar kind of treatment? Okay, yes, they did.
Did we get some new things to sort of help make up for it? Yeah, of course, like everyone.

But it's not enough by a long shot. Just taking Ruststalkers as an example, they lost literally 10 different rules/options excluding Formation related ones, and 8th edition replaced those with literally 1 single new rule, so no, it's not even close.
I don't even think it's for a power-level thing, I just think it's a 'fun army identity' thing. I want those rules because AdMech are SUPPOSED to have a bunch of little wacky rules that their player is challenged to remember in an effort to squeeze out every bonus to utilize that particular unit like a scalpel. Simplifying AdMech's rules, but leaving their super-science names and fluff is like a slap in the face. Something called a 'Transuranic Arquebus' that is explained in the book to work using the most complex science known to the Imperium, but that just...y'know shoots bullets, and has the generic Sniper rule, is boring and uninspired.

So, yeah, I want that stuff back. Not even for free, necessarily. Maybe buff some units if they want, but if they brought back Mindscrambler Grenades as a Stratagem that costs CP, sure, fine, whatever.
Just give me back those complex and interesting rules.

The models scythe looks like shit with the chainsaw, I'm definitely cutting it out. Will be the best Mortarion in the land.

>people have nothing else to complain about with 8th edition
Boutique rules lead to confusion and increase the number of FAQs needed is a pretty major complaint.

Despite being Most Playtested Edition there are units/loadouts that are strictly worse.

Some units disappeared entirely.

Orks in PLs can have 1/3rd as much as most armies. This is not even the full bling every unit PLs nonsense.

We're already at the stage where some armies need a core book, an index, a codex and their FAQ before allies. This will get worse.

There's a lot to complain about.
