Can a 5e treachery paladin only be evil by the UA or the book?

I don't believe it explicitly says that you must be evil

I know this is a thread about treachery paladins, but

Paladin has no aligment restrictions so yeah, you can be not evil (I feel it fits perfectly for tricksters of neutral kind, or some race's special soldiers that are there to fight evil in a way it doesn't expect)

I don't get why people are so adverse to playing "evil" paladins. My conquest paladin was following the tenants of Only the strong survive, but with all the stuff about honourable combat, prove your self removed totally.

I hate paladins in general, but evil paladins I like, because they can be funny
