The only RPG experience I have is playing various editions of D&D, and I think I want to try running my own.
What are some relatively easier games to run? The group will probably be 2-3 players.

Atomic Highway and Barbarians of Lemuria are fairly easy to learn and are pretty fun system
You could go even something simpler like Lasers and Feelings or Everybody is John.

5E, it's baby's first TTRPG for a reason.

There's a lot of decent beginner systems. Do you or your players have a preferred genre? Would you prefer something super rules-lite, or a more constructed experience? (Not necessarily better or worse, just different in how much winging it there is versus how much rules-learning is involved)

If you want fantasy I would recommend Warhammer 2nd ed. Simple, easy to learn, very instinctive, but fun and it has pretty much everything you need, while also not being overly oversimplified just for the sake of it. You don't even have to use the WHF setting, it works fine as just a generic usage low-medium fantasy system.

Came here to post this.

IMHO, i think system choice will, overall, be less important than having a setting you personally enjoy a lot. If you truly enjoy the setting, that will help you design challenges and story points that will keep your game afloat more than the system you use.

The reason being "it's D&D".
It really doesn't do anything more beginner friendly than any other RPG.
It's probably not even the most beginner friendly D&D, especially if you count OSR stuff.

It also has really badly organized books.

>Barbarians of Lemuria
This. At least if you're into rules-light swords & sorcery shit.

So simple even a complete moron can understand it, rules are less than one page.
Can’t go wrong with this one!

Would Zweihander work? I own it and here it's REALLY similar to Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay.
>>55224392
I have no idea, I know Zweihander only of name. But if it's similar I guess. Another good thing about WH is that it has a fairly big playerbase and fanbase(probably depending on where you live though). I have no idea how Zwei looks in terms of popularity.

Ah, okay. I'm looking for something that isn't just a boring generic Sword & Sorcery game. (I do not plan on ever GMing D&D.)
I also looked into Dogs in the Vineyard. It could be fun but I haven't seen people actually play it/rate it.
>>55224607
Do you have any specific genre you're aiming for?
Really though, "a good system for beginners" is kind of a dumb question honestly. Relatively few systems are too complex for someone with at least half a brain to understand, especially if you've actually played before. Just pick something you like and feel comfortable with, a good story and gming is what makes a session, system is just a tool to keep things organised.

Ryuutama. It is quite literally designed to be a tutorial for new GMs (and players, for that matter).

>Would Zweihander work?
Only if yougit gud

Dogs is a lot of fun; just keep an eye on how much equipment your players start with.
