Anyway it's a pretty bad map, actually. Colors for biomes AND highlands, and the highlands are misteriously differentiated in some places (Balkans) and not in others (Alps, Turkey).

Pretty bad.

There's a lore reason for that. The Winter Empire tamed the Eastern Wastes which was full of cavemen and centaurs. It's technically divided between different republics, but they're all part of the same empire and they're more like provinces.

Well, obviously, they're slavs mixed with whatever people steak parceltongue natively
>>
>>55217456
Ah, okay!
So! At some point in the past, an increase in pro-Moravian sentiment led to the capital of Austria getting moved from Vienna to the old capital of Moravia. This has enflamed tensions with the HRE-descended peoples of the western part of the country. Brno, of course, has no interest in breaking away, having more political control atm, but elements in Vienna are considering wresting control back, or even joining back up with Germany!
Just takes one or two unlucky incidents for this to get interesting - especially if other nearby countries have opinions on what should happen to Austria.

There's only a few things that could trip foreigners up, really. And it's that w is a vowel in between consonants, pronounced /u/ or "oo" if you're an anglo, that simple f is voiced and is pronounced /v/, and that the digraph ll is an unvoiced alveolar lateral fricative which is very rare among other European languages but can be described as either an unvoiced l, or an s pronounced at the sides of the tongue.

>>
>>55222040
Welsh is a completely separate language from English. But yeah, pretty much.

To understand why we must explain the history behind the letter itself though. In Ancient Latin, no real distinction was made between the consonant /w/ and the vowel /u/ (much like in Welsh today) and sound we today represent with v didn't exist at all. So the Romans used the letter V to represent their rounded semivowel (much like how they used the letter I to represent both /i/ and /j/) and everything was fine. Over generations, however, the pronunciation started shifting in the Latin language, and what had previously been pronounced /w/ became to be pronounced /v/. So now we have a single letter that's sometimes pronounced like a consonant /v/ and sometimes a vowel /u/. And sometime during all of this U was invented as an alternative way to write V, though it still meant the exact same thing.

However, as the Latin script spread to the Germanic people they needed a way to represent their /w/ sounds and decided to do so by doubling the Roman letter, so either VV or UU (see, double-u, clever right?), which eventually simplified into w.

The whole rectangular continent thing is about how you can fit Westeros neatly into a rectangular map, without large stretches of ocean or other continents.
If you try and do the same thing with, say, Europe, you end up with a lot of sea to the north of Iberia, along with probably a good chunk of north africa and asia minor being included too

Essentially, it's almost like Westeros is designed to fit neatly into a map in a book, with as little "wasted" space as possible. But that'd be crazy, right?

I had wanted to run one set on a series of cylinder worlds that are connected on spherical axis at the ends.

Though, the hard part is figuring out how to make that a reveal without just... hiding the curve with magic.

Mine's a flat dish like the flat-earther's think the world is, but the borders are protected by lesser deities created by the Star Gods.

The whole night sky is an illusion because the stars are all dead. It's literally the twilight of the universe.

Its easy: Rivers flow from mountains or caves near mountains, coasts works in oblongs because how wave errosion works and aesthetically it doesn't hurt to add one or few dabs of forrest here and there.

Just make a landmass you'd think would be the best for an adventure and enjoy yourself, the last part mostly. This is a fun, relaxing part of the hobby to do while you listen to a podcast or some good tubes.

I like it for the most part, but I don't agree with the city placement. It's a bit hard to figure out where they should go without any marked rivers. I see you have a Byzantium between the Bronze and Cirpentaranian Seas, but what about the Pelic and Shining Seas? I'm a big fan of pseudo-Mediterranian inner seas.

What method did you use to make it?

>What did you do with this
Back when 5e first came out, I DMed a game that lasted about a year from level 1 to level 8.
This world idea came from the players, they all picked variant human so I went with a more "realistic" world where the elves and dwarves died out in the Ancient Age before man. The "Dungeons" were old ruins from that war buried and forgotten by the human kingdoms.
The map evolved from a simple character creation backstory guide, to what I feel is a full setting. I even have a lore bible for all the little details most of which never came up in the game, sigh.

>>55256668
>>55256565
Quick update I decided to evoke some kind of Twin Cities vibe, good for seafaring adventure idea.
Also named the little islands.

It was in-person tabletop with four players, my brother, his college friend, and each of their wives. Eventually we subbed in my other friend to take over when one of the wives had to drop.
The party ended up being Wizard, Cleric, Barbarian, and Rogue, all humans. The campaign took place in Northern Gothos The map helped everyone decide which nationalities to make their characters. That's about as helpful a s you can expect of a worldmap so I was pretty satisfied with it.

However one of the players took the time to write an In Character Journal which was a transcript of the first bunch of game sessions, I was really impressed how much effort he put into it, it's worth a read of what actually happened in the game.
