Just played some guy with these weird tiny marine models. Beat him really easily with my Primaris, over by turn 4.

Are they the squats I've heard about? They seemed a bit of a joke in the table but it was a fun game.

Just had my first game of 40k. Very fun game IMO.

We were playing the Konor Campaign mission and I was defending. It was the last turn and I had to keep 5 minis on the objective to win... I ended up making 5 saves but my opponent used his last command point to make me reroll the save and I failed it.

My plasma gunners were really strong through the game, even risked it a few times overcharging without rerolls and killed jetbikes. Command points are a really fun tool and addition IMO.

You want Infiltrators in CC as soon as possible, or totally hidden from LoS. As is they're best with goads routing guardsmen, but they can do decently against tougher stuff as well, provided its W1.

I don't know if mathematically it's the greatest thing ever, but it's so sweet to see Paladins and hammers good after so long, and killing such a popular thing was the icing on the cake.

Well prepping for tournaments was the point, but the dude tends toward waacfaggotry so I guess it's not shocking. I won anyways, a full PAGKsquad dropping in, unloading, fighting, and then teleporting back to shoot/smite/fight again worked really well.

Aside from gate of infinity (which is bonkers good), the real winner is first to the fray WL trait. Rerolling on all the alphastrike chargers was amazingly powerful, and being able to knock away the combi-plas terminators (line of sight so no overwatch too!) that quick was huge

Instead of 2 9-man squads you can take 2 5-man with same amount of heavy weapons, but with 1 10-man unit of normal csm more and give them 2 heavy/specials+champion or 2 5-man and it will be 2 heavy/special+2 champions.

Last edition, I got 15 Terminators, 10 Purifiers, 5 Purgators, 2 Razorbacks, 2 Dreadnoughts, 2 HQs and a Land raider into my 2k point list. I've been working around on this for 2 hours and while this is the list that keeps as many of the models I like in it, and I still have to leave about half of the stuff I want to play on the shelf. MSU feels dumb and only having 5 guys means they're vulnerable to being turned to paste by stray bolters. An extra havoc or two even is good at chumping wounds. Again, I lack bodies. Removing bodies isn't where I think my weaknesses are.

I took havocs to specifically avoid regular marines because what's the point? They cost the same and I can take two more heavy weapons per squad.

But I will remove the Rhinos, lower the squads to 6-7 each and add in more of them.

Well the whole scale of the game dropped to make getting into it- and balancing it- easier, but o get how you feel. I like GK having all the toys, and people only want to play 2k, whereas 3k is where everything plays in. With that, here's some thoughts

I think the way you're supposed to use him is in an alpha strike strategy where you fly him into the heart of a horde, his aura hurts almost everybody, and then get goes after the heart of the army while the rest of the DG clean house. Several leadership checks later, half the enemy army is gone.

His presence will force players to spread their armies out across their side if fielding hordes, or field elite-heavy compositions which would survive an alpha strike and knock Morty down to single digits in a turn.

Low units should really be restricted to 2500 point games or higher. The problem in smaller games is that the single model dominates so much that the game devolves into can you kill it before it kills your army. While this is doable it makes for a pretty boring and one sided game either way.

Fortunately I have a chill group who get this and don't bring primarchs to a 1500 point game but sadly most players in this game need GW to play daddy to their bullshit before they get in line.

38.66 attacks do 30.07 hits and 5.01 normal damage, plus 10.02 mortal wounds, and DR takes that lot down to 10.02 wounds, 12.24 in total.

So he's on five or six wounds, and will promptly whack a few electros easily enough.
I'd say they're good enough to warrant inclusion in my normal list when I play DG frequently.

Knights aren't even IG models, and every Imperial faction can take them. Baneblades are tanks, not characters, and don't confer any kind of buff or debuff like characters do. The IG equivalent would lamost certainly have lower statlines, lower cost, and focus on providing army-wide buffs that emphasize weight of numbers instead of being an individual combat monster.

Creed, for example, was a fairly expensive unit who was just a T3 guy that gave lots of orders and could infiltrate any unit. Perfectly thematic. There was another character that made an entire unit outflank. There was another that made a unit respawn after being completely destroyed.

No one is suggesting IG need a primarch, I just think they need something that fills a similar role and isn't an unnamed superheavy tank. Think Solar Macharius or something.

Like GK already do really well against death Guard, the bloat drone is easy to kill with most things, assault cannons or incinerators (hell, even some storm bolters) demolish poxwalkers, plague marines are easy to kill with psybolts, and anything else you just bury under a mound of storm bolter, smite, and falchions.

The problem I foresee with mort is an inverse Magnus one- because he's not super OP hard to kill, people will want to put him behind chaff, but if they do they lose all his death aura usefulness, and really all his value.

Unless he has a +1 to disgustingly resilient within 7" (which isn't impossible, I merit) he's just got a shitty pistol and a psychic power or two. And even then, the guy will be at least a knight in cost for just being mowed down by any of the heavy hitters

It's weird, all my games against CSM and daemons have gone really well. Brims get put in the dirt by smite spam, stormbolters can cut chaff to pieces, and the niche murder things haven't really worked on me. Killing their tough stuff hasn't been that hard, and most of the time they waste tons of fire on Paladins (especially D2 weapons, don't do that) only for the apothecary to heal them and just march onward,

Khorne bezerkers are what I'd go with- loads of attacks with AP-1 and wounding on 3's, plus rerolls can be gotten easily.

Avoid <daemon> like the plague, GK have such an easy time killing them it's not even funny. If you can find a decent amount of D3 that's good too, D2 (plasma) is what people usually bring and needing 2 shots per paladin brings it to nothing ASAP.

I know how it works, I've done it. It's good, but it's good because GW made conscripts OP, which they will fix with the codex release. A 6" wide buff on a 130 point character is not in the same ballpark as Guilliman or Magnus. I don't think an IG unit should ever be a monster like that, but they should have soft buffs that make them just as effective in different ways that make more sense for the army. Like Yarrick, but scaled up.

Well, they seem to be putting up one or two units and saying "yeah, these will manage to take Mortarion down". In north america where people find forming clubs too much work and are too anti-social to invite people to their homes you pretty much need to play in stores to find a community.

In much of Europe and especially the UK gaming clubs are where it's at.

Which is going to look quite fucking small. And that's assuming it's directly on top of the laser or the city it's protecting, and orbital laser cover a much larger area than that.

In that at massive distances, the curvature WILL affect accuracy if you try to shoot as if the earth was flat. Calculations that take this into account are required for mitigating this.

You need a guy to determine the location of the target, another to point the turret at it.

Honestly, I'd love for Forge World to make a Solar Macharius model for their new 40k character line. Give the guy a Unique Order or two and some superb buffs to units around him. The guy's a legend, retroactively declared a living saint, and should be equally legendary on the field, not like the Gabriel Angelos they gave us, who is kind of lackluster rules-wise.

Is it just me, or does Forge World seem to be chafing under 8e, enough that they seem to just be hashing out the rule sets for these things half-assedly? I know they're hugely invested in the Horus Heresy which relies on the build of 6/7e rules, but they have yet to be openly embracing it. Even their Index books are filled with more mistakes and oversights than GW's.
