In Warmachine the characters actually fail or die occasionally, and they don't always win by being badass, tactics comes into play. But reading all this new 40K fluff is just... it's all variations one super badass guy winning battles for his army because he's just so badass. Usually he doubts his badassness for a moment, but then he gets a surge of badassery, and wins at the last minute.

Seeing peeps push through shit via sheer willpower is cool, but it should be special. It shouldn't be how every fight goes.

Really though, if you want good character driven stuff from your background materials, neither 40K or Warmachine are the right destination (though, Goreshade is possibly the closest thing to a properly developed character in either game). At the moment Infinity is doing that way better than both.

I was genuinely surprised by how good Outrage was, and how willing it was to have its characters go through complete arcs.

Its also experimental and implied to require far more resources to produce on a mass scale, which might not even be possible for the great task of sealing the Maledictum. Like much of the Admech, Cawl has to fuse things together to make something akin to the original. The only real differences between Cawl and the rest of Admech are he doesn't believe in R&D committees, and the only thing holy in the universe is the Omnissiah.

Anyway, I expect compromises will be made concerning pylon development to eventually get cooperative Necron lords on board. Cawl can't Macguyver his way through resource shortcomings.

Not even Black Library can bother to portray the Primarchs consistently, they are stupid huge in covers and just a head or two taller than marines in the art. The fact is there are more depictions of the latter for Primarchs than the impossibly gigantic wankjob that BL pushes every now and then.

My point is most GW employees probably think making them too large is a mistake, you got models that are not particularly bigger than Terminators, inside art that is sensible about their size and most descriptions arent of BIG TOWERING GIANTS instead focusing more on the presence they have rather than physical size.

Magnus i believe has the most potential for character development out of all of the Primarchs, since he was reunited with his other "Shards" he should be dedicated full force to fucking over Tzeentch, Magnus acknowledged this in his fight with Frillyman, so much wasted potential.

The biggest issue I had is when it described Magny-magic just angerly flinging warp powers at the sisters over and over and being a complete oblivious retard to why it was not working despite the battle experience he had in the BURNING OF FUCKING PROSPERO.

Question. This is a fucking war, why is doing literally anything cheating? Magnus was thrashing Guilliman until friends arrived, then Guilliman uses his last trick to throw him through the webway portal. It's quite clear that if the portal hadn't been there then Guilliman + Friends would still have got their asses kicked.
Using sorcery or allies or the terrain isn't cheating because this is a fucking BATTLE, not WWE 41k.
Dear god, sometimes I want a couple Primarchs to just get nuked to death or wind up on the wrong side of a pack of Ursarax or Meganobz and get killed that way, just to make the whole thing slightly less of a farce.
It's not that hard to come up with a way to kill or neutralize a Loyalist Primarch, since if they can't come to the battlefield for fear of being instantly atomized by a nuke, a Titan or pic related then they're way less helpful.
Magnus and his fellow Daemonmarchs are harder because they have varying degrees of warp bullshit to help themselves out with, though.
