I can pinpoint the moment I started to get fascinated by torture and violence (I'm some sort of sadist basically), and it's small-curious-me reading a magazine article about breaches of the Geneva convention.

For example, we would expect people who exhibit social anxiety early to be disproportionately likely to develop paraphilias for group sex, exhibitionism, public humiliation, etc. That's a pretty quick study (I think?); someone should have done it.

I'm skeptical, because 1) nearly anything can be interpreted as stressful, making the hypothesis hard to reject; and 2) false memories are easy to develop, which implies that accounts of formative stressful experiences may be unreliable.

Wikipedia suggests that paraphilias may involve prenatal hormonal exposure (plausible, but hard to test, and how does that get you to a specific paraphilia like a foot fetish?) or an early association between some stimulus and sexual arousal (also hard to test, and not all that plausible for paraphilias with very unusual or downright impossible corresponding stimuli).

I think this is one of those cases where we don't understand the phenomenon very well.

I don't think this theory accounts for every possible fetish people have, but I think it can explain a lot of them. Foot fetish is an example of one that psychologists think happens because of how people's brains are built -- the nerve centers for feeling in your foot being very close to pleasure centers for other organs or something like that.

The fear of test taking or public speaking, while common, are usually avoidable and understandable for most people. Those are mundane anxieties that people learn how to deal with easily. Anxiety relating to abuse, complex relationships with authority figures, or more primal fears (death, pain, being hunted/eaten) are more difficult to cope with and thus more likely to become fetishized.

I've been into vore as long as I can remember and I've always struggled with the idea that it was some quasi-sexual experience I had as a kid that made me this way, because nothing ever stood out to me. If I look at what my current preferences are and then try to trace them back to what I remember of my earliest fantasies, I can make a couple conclusions:

Welp, some years ago I made a "Sven" boss for a campaign. It was a comical encounter and he was shamelessly named "Svenka, the Enlightening Euphoric Knight of the Patriarchy". Eventhought he was around the same level as the party, getting him to "ult" was so disastrous that they had always to resort on "talking things off" with him, trying to avoid women or God. Specially, if you are a female paladin.

Svenka would behave like a true manly and brawny gentleman with other REAL men, until you get him pissed off. I can't find the complete character sheet but his build was pretty straightforward:

- Race: Half-Orc/Human (the flavour you like the most)
- Prioritize ridicoulus levels of strenght and try to have at least a +1 both in intelligence and charisma because real men aren't just muscles.

- Level 1: Cavalier of the order of the Star
- Level 2: Cavalier of the order of the Star
- Level 3 onwards: Titan Mauler (Barbarian Arquetype)

With those cavalier levels, you will get some nice bonus for a very powerfull hit and Titan Mauler will let you have a weapon one size category bigger than you. Follow the cleaving feat tree. Have some minion always ready to shove you an Enlarge Person potion, get into rage and issue a challenge to the blasfemous female paladin which are triggering you. Jokes and memes aside, enjoy your 4d6 damage and 20 ft reach cleaving all-mighty and obliterate everything on sight. Really, when accounting on raw damage, it is ridiculous. Add enviromental damage like "I CLEAVE THE PILLARS AND THE THRONE TOO!" and enjoy being the manliest beef slab in your party.

When I was young my mother died. My father was abusive and so were my many step-mothers. I was a socially awkward kid but I managed to make a few friends. Interesting thread.

I have low self esteem and I don't see why someone would want to date me, so I'm obsessed with doing things that would make someone happy and please them to make up for being lame. This manifests in normal ways like learning to cook well and learning how to clean well and getting a nice job to be able to pay for stuff for people and other stuff, but it also manifested into fetishes like enjoying being subservient and bondage and d/s.

So I think mine are fairly straightforward, and they're based on personality traits. But this doesn't align with the theory that fetishes are born from stimuli in developmental years, even though that theory makes a ton of sense and would explain things for a lot of people.

Not him, but it probably has something to do with the fact that anthro characters are a combination of humans and animals, while human characters are simply humans. Humans are real, and we know what we look like in reality. Anthros are a combination of two different things, and we know what they look like individually, but there's no single "right" way to combine them in a work of fiction. How long is a dog-girl's muzzle? How long is her fur? Where are her ears and eyes on her face? What are her legs shaped like? What is her posture like? They could be dog-like, human-like, or anywhere in between, since there's no clear standard like there is with pure humans.

You probably like it because, as mentioned earlier in the thread, regular Rouge is modeled more on features that fit with conventional human attractiveness than animal traits. The design in the OP just takes that design and shifts it back to a more human form, removing things like the oversized head and eyes and the few batlike traits of the body and leaving you with a white-haired woman in an outfit that's skintight and shows off her cleavage. It's not as significant a change as something like >>55206766 and so it's more immediately recognizable as the original character, with the artist not having to work as hard to emphasize the features present in the original character.
