A metal file and blades for flash, a handheld drill (pin vise), some small wire for pinning, and super glue, the real liquid stuff, not gel. Also a little extra fine epoxy putty for when you start reposing and coarse cheap stuff for filling bases.

You'll need some rare earth magnets, bigger drill bits and regular liquid epoxy if you start making poseable or weapon swappable machines as well.

Depends on the parameters of the engagement. If you use, for example, a ship-mounted HPG to provide tracking information on the Lev once it's reached a certain velocity and therefore committed to a course heading towards a known jump point, then you can mousetrap it at relatively close range and without giving it a chance to respond with many more fighters than just its normal CAP. Under that sort of circumstance, you can almost certainly kill it with three Mjolnirs, and you have an *outside* chance of doing it with two (the Mjolnirs have to be in very close and use their superior speed to ensure they stay in a single damage arc of the Lev, so that their damage concentrates).

In a traditional naval engagement where both sides are approaching from well outside of the Extreme Range bracket, at moderate velocity, and have plenty of time to deploy parasite craft? I have no idea; I know that not enough Mjolnirs exist to try it. My guesstimate is 8+ Mjolnirs to get a guaranteed kill, and only *that* few because it between Extreme/Long range misses and bracketing damage reductions, it'll usually take a Lev 2-3 turns to kill a single Mjolnir, and the others are going to be driving straight in as fast as they can on evasive movement to cluster into a single damage arc and overload that arc ASAP.

I am also assuming here that the Leviathan isn't front-loading all of its DropShip collars with ASF carriers (which it *shouldn't*, given that it has guaranteed air superiority over anything short of a full Thera group or a Potemkin with a similar bullshit load of 25 Vengeances). I consider the "normal" loadout for a LevII to be 1 Aesir, 2 Vanirs, 1 cargo dropship, 2-3 Overlord-Cs, and 1-2 unused collars for "just in case" usage.

Both those things are wrong. It has use in bigger models or things that need to be super secure. And it isn't any more toxic than any other expoxy based stuff. It isn't fiberglass resin. The chromium in yellow paint is worse for you.

Nice. As a first-time offender, I was just given a 1-week ban from the official forums for linking to a page, which contained a link to a second page. The second page had a link a THIRD page which contained NSFW content, therefore I'm "guilty of linking indirectly to NSFW content".

So I'm part of a dedicated BT campaign, right? Things have been going well; we're an irregular unit appended to the AFFS as they murder Kuritans in the War of 3039 for sport, and we had just gotten off holiday at Solaris.

We arrive at our hangar on-planet for our next deployment phase, and my character, J, has an idea. Now J is no ordinary pilot, he's got 2 piloting and 4 gunnery, believes accuracy is best attained through volume of fire, and put a goddamn hatchet on a Victor simply because he likes to smash things. We have in our inventory an old Patton tank that's been de-turretted and some Jagermech parts picked up at a scrapyard.

J requests a pair of Thumper Artillery Pieces, big fuck-off cannons that can lob HE for literal miles. Instead of mounting this shit on something normal, J takes the upper half of the Jagermech, mates it to the tank chassis, and uses the heavily-reinforced ballistic arms of the Jagermech to support both Thumpers. This living abomination was endearingly called the "JagerTank" and has seen three or four successful missions as long-range fire support.

The pilot of the JagerTank was a fresh recruit from school. He was so confused as to whether he was piloting a tank or a Mech.

And the best part? Our irregular unit opened up an ice cream business and used the hollowed out CT of the JagerTank as a storefront. Because of this, we've turned all calls for artillery into ice cream-related calls, such as "two scoops vanilla" for HE rounds or "two scoops chocolate chip" for cluster rounds

And man that ice cream is tasty

The loctite epoxy glue has a strong enough smell that you may very well start feeling nauseous and generally unwell after prolonged exposure to it. Even outdoors, its smell is pungent enough to make you ill.

The only time you really want to use that is if you're building shit like 40k Titans or huge pieces of terrain.
>>
>>55126101
It does not. It's the exact same smell as if you take a wad of epoxy putty of similar size and mash it up. Cause that's all epoxy putty is, epoxy with a styrene clay filler.

I couldn't imagine someone like you having to deal with stuff that is actually bad fume wise like acetone for paint removal or thinner or brush cleaner for traditional enamel. I think you'd have a panic attack or run screaming out of the room or some silly thing.

>>
>>55126212
No it doesn't. And I usually use JB-Weld if I need epoxy because it's what I have lying around. Epoxy is about the least inflamatory plastic cure there is. You're just a complete damn pussy. Guys, keep in mind we're in 3039 :P

We'll take anything we can get. Besides, we role-played it as the Thumpers having tremendous kickback, which the Jagermech is designed to handle. Plus I wanted to see just how close to a HOUND I could build

We're on the lookout for a KGC carapace and if it can't be repaired to full capacity, we're gonna mate that to a 100-ton tank and give it AIV. Why? Why not?

Oh it gets better. The mission before last, we hot-dropped right on top of the 4th Proserpina Hussars to help the ELH beat them back on Fellanin II. Everyone else dropped next to the ELH to assist, but my Victor had been decorated to look like a Hatamoto-Chi (I had even replaced the head component with that of a Hatamoto I had bested in combat a week before). The DCMS believed that I was an experimental unit sent on combat trial by the 2nd Arkab and let me hang out in their frontline.

Took a few cursory shots at my friends (just groundfiring and complaining about a wonky targeting system) before -headshotting the Hussars' Stalker with my goddamn hatchet-

The jig was up and their second-in-command was now slathered on my axe. Best part? We killed every enemy pilot either that day or a few days later. Nobody knows of my character's treachery.

That being said, my character did bring up the 2nd Arkab. mfw I accidentally brought the 2nd Arkab onto Fellanin II and got the ELH routed

Okay so this Victor is lit. I stripped off all the weapons and thought to myself "Damn, 4/6/4 on an 80-tonner is superb for CQC but the /20 is too heavy"

So I put on a hatchet in the RA, three MLs in the LT, eventually got a LPL for the RT, and a quartet of MGs in the LA. And the cherry on top is the super-rare Supercharger nestled in the CT. Ever seen an axe-wielding 80-tonner hit 80+ KPH in 3039? It's fucking spooky.

I'm hunting for anything with an ECM suite. I've already assured my DM that if he lets me get TSM, I win the game. Nothing says "fuck off Clanners" like 32 damage on the punch table

>It does not. It's the exact same smell as if you take a wad of epoxy putty of similar size and mash it up. Cause that's all epoxy putty is, epoxy with a styrene clay filler.
No, it really isn't. Shit's usually a mix of talc and other inert solids with slower-cure resins.. that dump less organics per minute into your surroundings than the quick-cure shit.

Look, here's the MSDS, stop being a gluehead.
http://www.loctiteproducts.com/techdata-msds.shtml

Note the relevant portions:
1) They use a different resin in the sticks than the instant-mix shit. It's considerably less toxic. The developer is slightly nastier but also different.
2) The respiratory issues the epoxy stick causes are from microparticulates; talc, ultrafine silicon dioxide, &c. There's also triethylene in it, which is not a fun thing. The active chemicals in >both< the instant-mix hardener and the epoxy itself are some pretty nasty organics and urea (which accounts for the godawful smells).

I personally use JBWeld as well (it's a couple dollars cheaper), but the Loctite stuff isn't much different.

Just.. wear a fucking mask when you work, man. A $20 set of vapor carts will do you.
>>
>>55127883
I have a really nice 3M respirator I use for airbrushing because of the volume of shit. You're bitching about a minute nothing. The quantity in the average mix of use is just a couple cc's. You're exposed to more nastiness from gassing up your car. This is paint and modelling. You're the equivalent of a germaphobe in this hobby. Sure epoxy offgasses a little, but it's nothing compared to polyethylene or any of the worse resins that you actually need a mask or to be outside for. That you are this militant just shows you have almost no experience with any of the worse plastics and plasticizers.

The only way you could get a headache or nausea from epoxy is if you mixed up a coffee cup full or are a ninety pound little girl.

It's like going nuts over lead models or other such nonsense.

>That you are this militant just shows you have almost no experience with any of the worse plastics and plasticizers.
I'm not militant. Hell, that was my first reply on all this shit, and to me that looks like a damned neutral post. Nor am I a hobby modeler. What I >am< is a middle-aged garage caster who works with special effects guys and does propmaking on the side. I know multiple people who've had to quit the biz after getting sensitized to resins, or winding up as gluehead burnouts because they fucked up working with OVs. It's not one exposure that burns you out, it's dozens or hundreds, but they still do damage every time.
Coming out of the Navy, I've got a rather healthy respect for HAZMAT; again, multiple co-workers injured or disabled because they were stupid and thought they were "too tough" for the shit they were issued to fuck them up. Read the fucking MSDS, instead of waving your "oh, I'm so manly I snort epoxies" cock around and endangering other people.

..also, you still haven't addressed any of the points about stick-epoxies being both a different resin and less-volatile than the shit in the instant epoxies. But of course, given your blustering ignorance about the shit you allegedly work with I'm not really surprised.

For reference, this is not the correct format from a posting from the Catalyst Observer position. Nor does it contain the proper and required grammatic structure and minimum use of profane language. Additionally, this "person" (and I use the term sparingly) impersonating a CGL professional is - in pointing out a potential misinterpretation of an Official Forum Moderator's ruling - in fact discussing a moderation decision with persons who do not hold NDA's, and would thus be in violation of the Catalyst Game Labs Volunteer Code of Conduct. I believe the attached image is directly applicable to your post.

Granted, we expect no better than for you people to pull this sort of stunt in order to make the Official Forums look bad in an effort to distract from the fact that no real communities will tolerate what passes for your presence, but this attempt at impersonation is a low-quality effort even for the most toxic part of the BattleTech fandom. It is again a reminder that when we bother to think of you at all, our only thought is, "good riddance."

Uh.. Anon, I have some bad news for you.

BTN made up a LOT of random shit. It's why so few of their designs are anything more than "canon rumors" these days. That said, if you actually read the article they kind of account for it by lowering the IS on the torsos. I personally would have cut at least 6 more IS, but that would have left them short a half-ton of armor. All in all, for someone's "well fuck, how can we remount arty on a 'Mech" speculative design, it's not too bad. Have a quad with a hatchet-replacement, and a turret that long predates the current rules. Of course they went with ML spam, but then nobody's perfect.

>>
>>55138526

The TCO shitposter up there isn't actually lying about the policy. If you discuss a mod action anywhere public, including offsite, and they find out about it, you can be banned. They've insisted on 100% opacity in mod actions since the site went from Warner Doles's private board to the official forums back in 2003 or 2004.

Since there's absolutely no transparency, then, it's extremely easy for the mods to just do whatever they feel like, and nobody can prove or disprove anything. In theory, if you get a ban and you're friends with another mod, you can appeal that process to your friend, but if you piss off enough mods, or an admin/writer, then there's no way to get a ban overturned.

Let me put it this way, since the topic is up. The OP image? >>55120363 When I first joined the OF, I had an avatar of a Marauder. I changed that avatar to the OP image about a year later (because of some RP stuff), and a mod named 97Jedi gave me my first Warning for it (censored cursing). I filed an appeal because it's official artwork (FM:DC, pg 110). 97Jedi then gave me a second strike and a 24-hour ban because I'd questioned a moderator's decision.

That was the only significant mod interaction I ever had as a user on that site, and afterwards I stopped posting there regularly for close to a year and a half before coming back because the refugee site I'd joined (Btechunits) got shut down and all the archives lost when the jackass running it didn't bother to pay a hosting fee. By then, I didn't know any other communities to go to.

I've asked Randall multiple times to run an ROI on the forums, seeing has how forum interactions keeps burning out their people; it's a big reason why Herb left, why Ben left, and why there's such large volunteer turnover. There's nothing the forum contributes that can't be handled by an errata submission email, a well-updated errata webpage, and an announcements page.

>>55138805

Apocryphal story, but it comes to me from Team Toronto, whom I trust completely.

Team Toronto hit lunch at GenCon a few years ago (2010-ish) in the company of Doug Chaffee (which did the original Proto art), and asked - somewhat more politely - that exact question. Chaffee sighed and basically said that when he was asked to do art for the protos, he was simply told to "they need to stand about twice as tall as a human, and make them look like monsters". That was the sum total of his instructions. So he went back though and "mecha-ized" classical Greek monsters, and *never* received feedback or revision requests from FASA after he sent them in.

Essentially, it's not a failure of the artist, it's a failure of whomever was doing what passed for art direction for FASA at the time.

I have much less irritation at Chaffee, given this story, and a lot more at whomever was doing art direction at the time. I still don't like them, but at least there's an explanation for what was happening behind the scenes. I enjoy his art for BT and Leviathans, and it was nice to hear an explanation for the only major artistic misstep from him I can recall offhand.

Oh, I see, poor guy. In this case I can't fault the artist, the art isn't bad per se but has crappy aesthethics, but I see he didn't have lots of options. The hobgoblin and Sprite are quite good but dunno if it's from the same artist (doesn't seem to be the case) and it seems the art director at least tried.

I would like to officially state, fuck Pathfinder.

Our LGS that Cincy has been playing at for 8 years just informed me that due to the rise in the number of local Pathfinder players, our group, which is scheduled a minimum of a year in advance, will no longer have space to play. The Pathfinder Society lead is willing to pay the store to ensure they get all the tables and chairs. There is not another public venue where we can play in Cincy; all the stores run large events on Saturdays and space for 12-20 people at an LGS is impossible to find.

We can still meet at someone's house, but I hate playing at homes because you don't attract new players that way.

It's shitty of those players then, but it still seems way more shitty of the store manager that approved it to me.

The logical response to "Hey, can we buy out the space of loyal customers you've had for 8 years" is a pretty easy "Nope."

Have you attempted to appeal to that manager? It is possible they did not think of it that way.

See if you can rent out a hall or something.
In the UK a group at my GW rent out a hall at a veterans club 1 night a week since they got sick of GW's antics.
Find somewhere that can be rented at a reasonable price and maybe advertise it for new players?

In this particular case, >>55140558 is correct.

We play in an LGS which is a chain, with about (I think) a dozen stores across the country. The *chain ownership* approved it, not the store manager, I'm poretty sure because the chaoin *doesn't* charge for space and this is a sale without a SKU. Granted, this comes from the store manager, but he's been a good friend for a decade, and by the tone of voice I don't think he's lying about it.

>>55140432
>See if you can rent out a hall or something.

Good idea. I'll look into it.

In that case its even more likely that the chain ownership may not have realized that they are displacing loyal customers of *8 fuckin years* and they may reconsider if you email them.

I know the old "now you're playing Battletech!" syndrome very well, and now I'm dreading the RNG has something up its sleeve for my arse.

First battle, my Archer crits a pristine Centurion in the LRM bin on the first shot. Second battle, my Panther headcaps an Urbie on the first shot. Third battle, an officer duel, my company commander does this - again on the first shot.

This can't end well.

That's what da clevva ladz at the Blind Pig Games Club in Brisbane, Australia, did. When the local GW pissed them off, they rented some space, and things went up from there:

>The Blind Pig began in mid 2000 when the then Manager of the Games Workshop Garden City store, Laurie Goodridge, told a group of friends sitting around the painting table causing trouble in his store, to fuck off and do something useful. The Blind Pig was born.
>
>First located at The Mount Gravatt Showgrounds, we quickly outgrew the Budgie Hall and moved to new premises at The RSL Memorial Hall in Holland Park. After eight years at The RSL Hall, we moved in March 2011 to the larger Finnish Hall in Mount Gravatt.

Some of my local /hwg/ players outright play in a pub; the place has an old, busted billiards table that isn't suitable for that purpose anymore, so the owner lets them do their hex and counter stuff there, just so long as everyone buys at least a pint, which they'd do in any case

Thankfully my LGS is pretty friendly and if I want a table for BattleTech, I've got one. He never lets MtG take over or use mini gaming tables, even during large events. He has like 7 or 8 full-length card tables though, so it's rarely an issue anyway.

Jesus Christ, I now understand why you guys complain about moonwalking so much. I've never seen a person who - when playing in person - who actually plays their objectives AND moonwalks to the exclusion of literally every other tactic, but now that I've gotten my AtB campaign up into the Clan Invasion era (started in 3030), it's mind-numbingly annoying.

Literally, all the bot does is move backwards - staying at 23-25 hexes at all times - toward a giant mechbrick formation in a corner of the map as far away from your units as possible, and start doing circles to keep their TMMs up. Obviously, I understand this is because the bot isn't capable of doing things like "pursue scenario objectives", but godDAMN is that annoying as shit.

BRB, trying to find CA's AtB instructions PDF so I can figure out how to start using artillery and or level bombing. This is ridiculous and irritating. Are there bot settings to screw with this?

>side question: is Pushing enabled by default? I moved a Pixie next to a Stormcrow that was camping on the edge of the map, I fired no weapons at all that turn, and the Push button during the physical attacks phase was greyed out so I couldn't shove his ass off the map.

>Wouldn't the Matrix have had more furries though? That whole 'residual self image' thing making you look like what you think you should appear as?

I don't think so; Neo already had an appearance in the Matrix that looked like Keanu Reeves, and when the crew of the Nebuchadnezzar rescued him, stimulated his muscles, and regrew his hair, his appearance in the real world looked very much like the (fairly) mild-mannered Thomas Anderson he was before his escape. It's only *after* he dove back into the Matrix that he took on a more cinematic look - although I think Mouse's reimagined ideal of his own appearance was even more dramatic.

This'd have to be a case where either the Matrix was willing to program people with fake memories or a desire to be a furry in order to simulate a reality which would be less likely for them to keep trying to wake up from, or it'd have to be someone rescued from the Matrix who somehow developed a furry fetish after living outside - despite a dearth of any kind of animals to base it on.

Fun note about the Matrix: Switch was supposed to be a character who was female in real life but male in the Matrix. That's why they picked a fairly androgynous actor for her. But the Wachowskis discarded that idea after it was realized it would be too confusing.

>>55143879

So for any of your oldfags who were around when the post-Jihad stuff came about, what was the reaction to the whole Republic of the Sphere just coming out of nowhere and the in-universe characters falling over themselves to embrace the incorruptible pure pureness of Devlin Stone and his idea of solving war by founding a new entity that prompts more wars?

3025, Mad Max. Base level rules and the original source of all the loveable crazy lore. If you know 3025, then you know all the important last names and units in the Sphere outside the clans for the entire history of Battltech right up to 3150.

As a newbie to the setting and game - what faction traditionally has the best jump jet mechs/is best at jump jetting? IS, Periphery, Clanner, what have you.
>>
>>55146511

Anything but Steiner.
>>
>>55146511
Clanners tend to have a lack of jumping mechs. Steiner and Dracs are a bit thin too.
>>
>>55144524

Man, I know that the WoB holed up in the FWL a lot but I still don't understand why the RoS had to continuously kick what was left of it in the teeth. For good or something. They wouldn't even like the MSC have Stewart.
>>
>>55146511
Marik. They make the best long jump scouts, have the best LAM selection, and make all the 55 ton trio plus the Wraith and other classic jumpers.

Kurita has good jumpers but is also known for ganking jumpjets off mechs.

Steiner is assault heavy but their most iconic mech is the Griffin.
>>
>>55146559
Because they wanted a perfect round state. No further thought put into it than that. Nevermind it's the best manufacturing plants in the FWL. Kalidasa, Stewart, Irian and so forth. Like taking Hesperus and Arc Royal from the Lyrans or Luthien and Benjamin from the Dracs.
>>
>>55146552

Don't the Clanners have like the Thor, Shadowcat, Dragonfly? And weren't some clans like Nova Cat and Cloud Cobra known for jump jets?
>>
>>55146617

As someone new to the setting, I'm a little surprised at how they seem to marginalize the FWL as much as possible when it's by far the most interesting and engaging of the major factions.

The LC and FS seem boring as dirt and the DC and CC are hilarious caricatures but not good. The Periphery should be offering more fun stuff too but they only made like... four states that could ever do anything.

The giant robots attract me but the fluff seems to be doing a good job of pushing me in the other direction.
>>
>>55146698
Yep, and that's only three 'mechs out of all the ones they used coming in. Four if you count the Gladiator/Executioner.

Clans and Dracs have a bad habit of ditching jjs for firepower.
>>
>>55146763
You don't seem like you're actually reading the Housebooks and are reading some Era Report or summary or something. All the states are pretty varied and interesting amalgamations of a bunch of different strange cultures and alien worlds.

People love the FWL here because it is one of the very best places where you can play a big campaign without fucking up the rest of the Sphere. And they play a big role in the Jihad and Dark Age.
>>
>>55145659
>For social events, customs are for campaigns and friends only.

Are variants the same way or are they generally kosher?
>>
>>55146889
Depends. Random pickup, nobody cares as long as they're official production and not one-off's like so-and-so's personal custom ride. If you're playing a particular faction or era, you'll generally need to follow that.

Like no Victor 9K in a 3025 game because it's a 3050's variant even though there are Victors in 3025. But nobody would say a word if you were playing a 3055 Drac game.
>>
>>55146853

I've read the housebooks and the Field Manuals so far. Anything in particular I should be looking for?

I guess I was a little disappointed coming into the fluff because I was expecting a lot of neat space nations of various sizes interacting with each other, like in the real world, while the trend seems to be to erase or clanner-ize smaller nations. I think that's what makes the FWL seem so much more interesting to me.

Are you unable to Google 'Alanis Morissette'?
>>
>>55146964
You're reading the Handbooks, not the original Housebooks. Pull up the old 80's stuff.

The FWL is interesting in that it's the oldest successor state and the only real republic in the entire Inner Sphere. But every other state is made of smaller states with their own regions and problems in similar number to the FWL. Well, except the Capellans because there isn't much of them left.

Like for the Davions, the politics of Capellan March, Panpour region, Golden Five, Draconis March, and Outback are just as complex as the FWL, except framed in a traditional feudal architecture.

In the Draconis CombineTakashi completely upended his realm when he turned his regional Warlords into a meritocracy. The constant scrabble and shuffle is insane, plus the three different intelligence groups, traditionalists, and literal ninja clans mucking things up. On top of all the other semiautonomous mini states there.

The Lyrans have similar problems just with much heavier emphasis on political currency like Tharkad vs Donegal vs Arcturus while Skye goes nuts on the Dracs to hold them at bay yet threatens to break away at the same time and Cavenaugh and Bolan are doing all the work grinding at the FWL while those Furillo Fucktards are sipping champagne and the former RWR dreams of glories past.

Always and interesting story to tell anywhere you go, generally the more interesting the further you get from the capitals.

Marik is slang for the whole FWL like Kurita, Davion or Steiner for their respective states. If you want specific jump makers then you're mostly talking former Regulan worlds and Anduriens. Jumpiness is more a unit thing though than a state thing. State trends are more geared toward general weights or the type of units. Like Marik is known for bolstering its mech forces with a shit ton of cheap tanks.

The feudalism seems to not make a lot of sense and is incredibly static - when I saw that there was a Periphery nation with a hereditary President, I realized that probably the reason they set up the feudalism like they did was so that they didn't ever have to think up new last names for their characters.

Not to say the feudalistic thing might not be neat, and isn't neat in certain situations, but shoehorning absolutely everything into the same model is a bit silly.

The FWL has enough of a mix of different things that it feels a bit more organic and, to use the word again, realistic.

I have looked at the older books too though, which are the ones I remember better. I'm not much up on the clan stuff yet, I assume it all goes to shit?

I will give the setting this plus though - the fear and hatred of Asians inherent in the setting are pretty hilarious. I get a kick that they felt they needed to put two yellow peril factions in.

The entire early history of every successor state is about how democracy completely fails on a multiplanetary level. Plenty of planetary governments are still democratic.

And it's not static. You just have to look at all the complete changeovers in Battletech early history to modern. What people do, like they did in real fuedal Europe, is steal and use certain names for legitimacy and all the top nobles are interbred enough that you have tons of people with a line to the throne.

Hell, at the current moment in time the whole Federated Suns is run by a little shit exiled to the Republic of the Sphere whose name isn't even Davion, whose closest relation to the throne was that the grandfather of the former First Prince was his distant cousin and he's just keeping the chair warm until an even more distant cousin can fight his way back through enemy territory where he was also exiled for years.

BattleTech is the future of the '80s, anon. Japan was about to buy America out from under Americans, and the Soviet Union was a valid threat, so you get the Draconis Combine. China was Communist and aligned with the Soviets, so you get the Capellan Confederation. The Cappies even got their own Taiwan analogue after Hanse gave his wedding speech.

(Seriously, if you don't think "I give you the Capellan Confederation!" was one of the best bits of political theatre EVER, you're dead to me.)

What's the BV2 of a squad of basic IS infantry? Maybe I'm just not looking in the right places, but I can't seem to spot it anywhere.
>>
>>55148117
About 20. That's it.
>>
>>55148135
Jeezus, really? I was seeing numbers between 20 and 60 depending on armament, but I thought that felt kind of low...
I don't think the 4 bases I've ordered is gonna be enough.
>>
>>55148208
Infantry don't move fast, don't have much range, and are pretty fucked by flamers, or SRMs with teargas warheads.
>>
>>55148208
You're supposed to deploy them in platoons, not squads for normal tabletop play. That way you can get enough men together to actually do shit and also not drive your opponent crazy with initiative sinking.

>>55148226
>teargas
>not infernos

You are weak, Daniel-san.
>>
>>55148266
Infernos are for civilians, partisans, and pirates.

Teargas is so the sadass solahma infantry have to live with the shame of failing yet again to die in glory.

How do you handle those 1-ton troop space APCs in BT as they can only carry a squad.

Do you let them carry a squad per Tac Ops or bring 4 and house rule some means of consolidated disembarking?
>>
>>55148927
You use a mechanized platoon and don't fuck with separate APC's. But if you absolutely have to, then yeah you can group APC's into 4 vehicle units under the rules for whole platoon transport.

Just keep in mind you can't bust up those units for individual movement just like you can't bust a platoon into squads once you've deployed as a platoon on the table.

>>Nice. As a first-time offender, I was just given a 1-week ban from the official forums

1) that's not how that works.
2) "just" as in this just happened? As of the time you posted this, there hasn't been a single ban from the OF in a month.

>>then an hour before that ban was due to expire jadehellbringer said I still didn't learn my lesson so he perma-banned me.

3) Yeah, no.

You're either unmitigatedly full of shit of you have a corn kernel of truth buried in your bullshit. Either way, get over yourself.

>>
>>55148208
It depends upon their skill, equipment, and if they have anti-mek training. A platoon of regular grunts with generic ARs with basic flak armor is going to be much lower in BV than a platoon of hardened elite FedSuns with their elite armor and Federated-Barrett M42bs and support lasers. Add in jazz like other mobility types or specialists and it goes up even more.
>>
>>55148927
>>55149012
There's also canon units that are organized as "platoons" of single squads. The most extreme example being the WoB's Tau Zombies, as rolling a normal sized platoon of those motherfuckers would be kind of a dick move.
>>
>>55149434
That's by design, as dick moves are the Wobblies main mode of operation.

Literally nobody is ever going to believe you.

If only there was some tiny bit of transparency in the process so we might have some modicum of ability to trust in what you say. Too bad you assholes like your opaque mod procedures more than you like having a healthy community and a userbase composed of more people than just you and your friends. Even if you WERE telling the truth, by now the policies of the people you support have so poisoned the well that nobody has or will have any reason to believe you now or in the future.

Good job destroying your own userbase, fuckstick.

First this didn't happen recently. Second, yes my first ban was a full week. And yes jadehellbringer did exactly what I said he did. There's no reason for me to lie. Of course I can't prove the time frame of when things happened, but then again I don't give a shit to. Jadehellbringer abused his power cuz I hurt his feelings. It's that simple.

Roy Calbeck is the fursona of a particular ELH fan. Once upon a time, this fan pitched FASA on an ELH sourcebook, got a positive response, and sent off a draft. (It included his aforenamed donut steel SI character as a member of the ELH, complete with anthro-unicorn nose-art on his Pegasus hovertank.) He never heard back about the project again, but it certainly never got printed. Later on, he sent the same draft to Warner Doles' forums, where it was posted as background for the ELH, completely non-canon but fun to read.

Then Warner Doles' website became the official FanPro forums for BattleTech, complete with an "online canon" section. And someone derped by leaving the ELH writeup on-line as part of that section.

A couple of years later, a fan asked some questions about that "on-line canon" write-up on the forums "Ask the Writers" section, specifically its mention of outright magic. FanPro realized they'd derped, said "oh shit", yanked the write-up, and declared it thoroughly non-canon. Calbeck got butthurt about the whole thing, claimed FanPro had knowingly and maliciously stolen his write-up to add it to their IP without paying him for it, and used that "theft" as grounds to sue FanPro for control of the entire BT IP.

The judge laughed him out of court (it might've helped him if he'd actually hired a lawyer instead of representing himself, but I doubt anyone who actually passed the bar would've taken the case anyway), but it was yet another case of bullshit litigation costing BattleTech and its owners time, money, and effort they really could have better used elsewhere.
