Currenty thinking of shit to add to start playing something other than 500pts and then work my way up to a semi competitive list. I'm still relatively new.

Right now running Bloodletters, Flesh Hounds, Crushers and a Herald as my HQ. Thinking about adding some Berzerkers, swapping the Herald for a Lord on Juggernaut and getting some kind of big gunz, not sure what yet.

Thoughts?

>>
>>55119966
It's no longer a viable tactic to chase down and lock ultramarines in combat, because they will back away, rapid fire you, then rapid fire you with other units, and probably charge you with them to deny your charge bonuses. being able to withdraw and still fire is fucking retarded.

So the Gravis armor is growing on me. What would be a good Chapter tactic for a small force with lots of Aggressors and Inceptors?
>>
>>55120028
Ultramarines maybe? Means aggressors can back out and still shoot. Or Imperial Fists, means enemies can't hide. Are Inceptors infantry?
>>
>>55120015
In practice while its good I haven't found it to be gamebreaking. Salamanders and Raven Guard are stronger over all.

Generally if you're assaulting Marines you're going to be using a solid melee unit to do so, and a lot of them are going to wipe out your average Marine shooting squad entirely, or at least maul them so badly that the shooting they can must when they fall back isn't overwhelming (at least not compared to the rapid fire from the rest of the army, but that was going to happen anyway regardless of chapter tactics; Ultramarine tactic is just another drop in the pond). There are a few units that really benefit from it though, like big squads of Hellblasters as well as flamer heavy Aggressors or Dreadnauts.

Reposting because I didn't realize the thread was dead already

Grey Knights themselves are protected by a total info blackout by the Inquisition, they themselves don't require the execution or mindwipe of any witnesses

Mass executions tend to be for large bodies of people or soldiers where they've all been dangerously exposed to the warp and there are simply too many to test each individual, thus the only way to ensure purity is to kill or mindwipe everyone

So, 50 sisters fight alongside Grey Knights (like what happened in the first ben counter novel)? Tested, expected to pass and let go with a vow of secrecy.

5,000 guardsmen fight off a daemonic invasion while the grey knights close a warp portal? Well they're probably dead from daemonrape already but the survivors are going to be mind wiped at the very least, mercifully.

Primaris are okay. Which is a good thing really, because it'd suck if they were overpowered or completely useless, so they're in a good spot balancewise. They're big weaknesses are a lack of solid melee beyond Reivers who are just okay and units that are generally very cookie cutter in terms of battle field use.
>>
>>55120527

>How are elite armies fairing in 8th right now?
If you're playing against a horde army, you literally lose by default.
>>
>>55120460
Nothing but Primarchs?

Magni and Morty will probably be about 750
>>
>>55120612
Which will be more expensive? Maggie or Morty?
>>
>>55120232
Yeah, there's a boy who's about 10 at my local GW who's actually done things properly and fully painted his Blood Angels. Rather badly, but still not a grey in the bunch, so he puts me and almost everyone else there to shame.

I've started a drive to repaint all my admech at decent tabletop standard now I've got mediocre at painting, so it'll be a while given I have two SC boxes, 6 Kataphrons, Kastelans, Infiltrators, 20 converted Fulgurites, 10 Rangers and a Knight to do and half of that needs stripping first. Still, it'll look nice and green when I'm done, and there will be no more chalky red new player Mars abominations.

There's also the youngish guy who's got a stupid quantity of stuff. 8k Nurgle CSM, loads of Orks, 2.5k HH Death Guard with Levi Dreads and FW tanks and Morty, Vampire Counts, bunch of Lamenters, full Deldar carnival of pain, 300-ish Renegades he used to run in the Host and some supporting stuff for them and he's probably nabbed all the new DG by now. He's off to uni now, which kinda sucks 'cause he was awesome to play with. Doesn't really count as a kid, but I still wonder how the hell he found the money and time for that lot.
>>
>>55120603

I find primaris very easy to pop because literally any multi-damage or high AP weapon will mulch them faster than they can cope.
>>
>>55120623
Magni, probably.

I'm expecting Morty to just be nigh unkillable and an aura machine, which GW doesn't seem to add into points consideration

Ala Bobby G
>>
Looking to start an emperor's children army. Clearly i want noise marine troops, but what else should I grab, unit or box wise?
>>
>>55120635
>and an aura machine
I think he won't be. He has wings and will thus has a ridiculous move speed, but not as fast as Mag. He's probably have a version of Gate of Infinity like he does in HH, and will probably give off auras that are only useful in CC. DG armies have always lacked a really decent close combat unit, but Morty and Death Shroud termies look set to change that.
>>
>>55120527
Grey Knights are awesome, mixing lots of PAGKs (which are a bitch to kill if you get 10 in combat) with like 10 Paladins and a few characters, vehicles, and dreadknights/noughts is badass.
>>
>>55120623
Imo Magnus.
Morty is going to be an unholy abomination between a Great Unclean One and Guilliman.

Slow, tough, supporty, but overall not as much a murdermachine as Magnus, who does barely anything for his sons beside tell them to take five as he wins the game by himself

Give me just a second to sort out the weapons for the one I'm working on ATM and sure. Built 16 of them so far, trying to decide how to arm the rest.

Basically emptied my bitz box to do it, but given it cost me £30 for a box of Kairic Acolytes compared to £100 for 20 actual electropriests and I think mine look a little better it's probably worth it. Saving an entire Betrayal at Calth is always nice.

Ok so noise marines, some rhinos, some bikes, and sonic dreads. Shaping up ok. How are slaaneshi daemons or cultists?
>>
>>55120554
kek
>>
>>55120638
wait with the noise marines. The current kit is ... lacking. Its really just a few guns and 2 heads. so your "noise marines" are very much normal CSM.

If you have the money FW makes some fine noisemarines for Horus Heresy.

Slaaneshi normally hit first, so you might want to think of strong fast melee units, warptalons maybe, or raptors. (Raptors can get 2 special weapons btw, so 5 Raptors 2 melta and a combimelta on the champ)

You might want to look into the start collecting CSM box. A CSM squad for objective grabbing aint bad, the CSM termi lord/sorceror is a useful HQ and the helbrute can bring some much needed longrange firepower. All that on a relative bargain.

Also check ebay for DarkVengeance cultists (the old 6th/7th starter box), for cheap fodder and bubblewrap units
>>

>>55120603
>Lack of actual melee or Terminator equivalent
Something that sort of bummed me about the primaris, they make a good shooting army, but they really don't do well in melee something where marines should at least be decent in. Would love to see them gain a dedicated terminator type unit, but that won't happen for a while if ever
>>55120608

>>55120677

Here's a sample of one or two of each type. They're a little ramshackle since they're just combat Servitors, so there's Kataphron claws, Torsion Cannon smashy bits and heads from pretty much the whole Admech range. Also one guy with Wolverine claws because I wanted to try it with Chordclaws, but that was way too much trouble, so he'll just be on his own.
Left some of the greaves on because they'd be a pain to remove after I've already built the dudes but I think I'll lop the shoulderpads off the three or four that have them.

Kill Team about 6 months ago. Brought five specially kitted out Chosen for fun. Not sure what all the opponent brought because it went so fast. I remember a Plasma Cannon Marine and a scout with a Heavy Bolter. He took every one of my guys out in two turns. I never got a shot off. Lasted maybe 10 minutes.

Gee it's almost like they completely stripped the durability gimmick away from the most durable army.

The issue isn't durability itself. It's the price you pay for that durability.
>>
>>55121322

Just have them "reinforce" a chapter that had about a single squad's worth of survivors. A century is long enough to learn traditions from those few normal marines.
>>

>>

Nah, sounds okay to me. When the official lore contains a guard regiment being sent to respond to its own distress call and an ork warboss fighting himself so he can have two of his favourite gun, warp time-travel shenanigans seem perfectly fine in homebrew.
>>
>>55121365

No I mean, Necrons straight up aren't a durability army anymore.

I wouldn't say that. They are durable, but susceptible to focus fire. If your opponent has a bad habit of not completely destroying a unit, it can end up coming back to haunt them.
>>
>>55121322
It's been noted that the warp storms have made time a rather fluid concept. So some world may have seen 3 days over the past 200 years, others half a millenia.

At least that was the designer's answer to "how the hell can Chad Marines have Ancients, dreadnoughts, and Captains in just 200 years?"
>>
>>55121445
You know what? That makes sense actually, cuz now GW can sell us updated character who've been up scaled to fit their current range and it still make... 'sense' within the lore.

Yes. A normal marine can have the additional organs implanted and they will grow into becoming a Primaris.

I'd say go cultists first, daemonettes are best run in mobs of 20+ so they arent cheap to add to your force. The "cultist assault" box has enough boys to run two 10 man squads and you can use the champion as an Exalted Champion or as a good conversion base for a custom Lord so its definitely a nice boost for your board presence and detachment taxes

I have beat Grey Knights twice, regular marine variants 5x, orks twice (both boyz and dreadmob) nids twice, deldar thrice, craftworlds twice, admech once, and Harlequins once.

Yet if you would believe /tg/ the Necrons have become the lowest of the low trash this side of sigmar. I actually would love to spectate the games where people say they are losing so much as necrons.

My 3250 point game last week versus GK ended in me having lost a squad of immortals, 3 wraiths, 4 scarab bases, and a squad of deathmarks before I tabled him.

And a 3250 v Ynnari I tabled them after losing 3 wraiths, 10 praetorians, a triarch stalker, and a transcendent c'tan. due to the konor mission parameters I did also lose 40 warriors but it was in the last turn and they took Yvraine, the Visarch, a Death Jester, and some Banshees with them.

What list do you usually play? Im curios to see what you seem to be losing with.

Also the durability with Necrons and the rules on targeting closest things first can really be used well by us. Experiment with small formations and phalanxes to maximize your survivability. Such as Pic Related, It can really make the most out of your units even if some things are going to die I have found this gets across the board quire unmolested. Heavy Bolter Inceptors are pretty darn good. Fly is a strong ability on a unit with so much shooting, particularly for non-Ultramarines. But Reivers and Shooty Terminators can perform somewhat similar roles as alpha strike and backline harassers.

Plasma Inceptors are a lot dicier as their cost start to get prohibitively expensive relative to their body count. Still, deep striking Plasma is no joke and is a lot harder to come by now that Drop Pods cost so damned much. One alternative is to use dual plasma pistol Vanguard Veterans instead. They're more points efficient per shot than the Inceptors but the shorter range and the fact that they're pistols greatly limits the flexibility of your target selection.
>>
>>55121761

Pure numbers, it should be super one sided.

But then at what rate do Imperial players play? Paint? If a majority or even a plurality of Space Marines played once a week, while the average Chaos player played 3 or 4 times a week, the numbers would be closer.

There are a lot of factors a graph like that doesn't provide, and to try and use it as proof of a fixed competition is disingenuous.

For a non-bait definition, I'd say oldcrons and tyranids.

They are factions with no personality that can only fit into a narrative in one way (as the super-destructo terminators that kill/eat everybody). You would never play as them in a story focused TTRPG or CRPG.

There is as of Chapter Approved. A detachment needs to be use a specific <faction> keyword to gain ObSec on troops.

>>55123328

>>
>>55123377
Wrong. You have to set up after deep strike 'more than nine inches away'. Meaning you need a 9
>>
>>55123377
No, you have to roll a 9. Most of the deep striking stuff is required to be placed OVER 9 inches away.
>>
>>55123225
There's plenty of risk. And unlike previous editions just getting a single unit stuck in often doesn't do much on it's own. That charged unit just falls back and the rest of the at shoots the chargers to pieces. To make assault work you generally have to coordinate multiple charges. So it's usually possible to get some disruption from first turn charges, but a really decisive assault on first turn is very difficult to achieve.
>>
>>55123377
You have to set up at more than 9" away, so 9.01 is ok. If you charge 8" you are 1.01 away so not within 1".

So glad the FAQ discouraged that last one a bit.

On the flip side, I've done my fair share of tabling this edition too. Against Eldar/Ynnead players usually. Usually opponents don't let me go on to the next round to finish a thing off and would rather forfeit and score while they still have models on the table.
