So I remember a thread where we discussed a while back about what interesting situations we could put PCs through if they were simply a normal watch team manning a tower, and think it would be fun to bring it back and exercise the mind with some scenarios. Ill start:

>One day, one of the Characters find a trapdoor under their bed, despite having stayed for a number of days in the tower
>The town observable from the hill is having a festival!
>Traveling circus is passing through, but something about the circus doesn't seem right...
>Word comes out that a witch is believed to be staying deep in the woods, but no one's quite sure where
>>

comfy, you say?
>A lost kid makes their way to your tower, saying they lost their parents while hiking, they're about to cry
>The sky is so blue these days, only a single cloud hanging right above your tower
>Three drunkards stumble onto your tower and start to have a tall tale competition
>The local quartermaster came by and starts handing the crew warm clothes and thick blankets, along with a winter's worth of coffee and firewood - tells that winter's coming early
>>
>>55119173
>The town wishes to show its appreciation by sending pastries with a group of young men and women for prospective marriage
>A stray dog is found wandering the tower and feeding off of scraps
>A messenger hawk comes to the watchtower with a letter addressed to a wife and family from what would appear to be a soldier
>>
>>55119395
>One of the fellow NPC guardsmen is getting married to one of the townswomen; everyone is invited for the festivities
>The royal convoy is purveying the lands, and some of the guards ask to bunk up / hold sparring competitions
>A drow that has defected seeks shelter from their marauding tribesmen out hunting for them
>The signal has broken and the only spare parts are in the next town over; someone has to get it
>>
That was a good thread.

>A shooting star falls to earth one night, knocking the weathervane off the top of the tower and burying itself into the hilltop nearby. It's still glowing.

>A local businessman wants to build a small rest-stop and tavern at the base of the tower, promising each of the guards one free meal each day.

>A passing wizard has lost a book of minor cantrips on the road outside. They seem to be fairly easy to learn and may prove useful and amusing.

>The guards think that the cheerful but deathly pale new guardswoman may be undead, but they can't just plainly ask her if she is, can they?

>A junk-seller stops at the tower and tries to sell their questionable wares. Nothing they're selling is worth buying, but they look poor and desperate.

>A Minotaur mercenary makes camp on the hilltop, challenging the guards to games of strength and skill while he waits for his contact to show up.

>The guards find a thick stack of decades-old, undelivered letters in a storeroom and spend a lazy afternoon dramatically reading their contents.

>Alarms and alerts travel up and down the border tower line that a huge dragon was spotted on the frontier, putting everyone on edge.
>>

>A small group of Dwarven families passing through the region have decided to dig their new homes out from under the hill on which the guards' tower sits.

>The guards discover an old enemy uniform with the insignias torn off hidden in the storeroom. Could one among them have been a defector or maybe even a spy?

>A sorceress, resting at the tower for time, comes down with a case of the hiccups that cause her to accidentally cast a rapid series of problematic spells.

>In an extremely embarassing turn of events, the guards have locked themselves out of their tower and must get back inside before anyone finds out.

>It is discovered that part of the tower's foundation is an old stone golem that wants to be freed. How do the guards help him without collapsing the tower?

>Deciding that it's time to clean and inspect their well, the guards discover all manner of strange things at the bottom, like a small cavern or minor treasure.

>A fledgling witch, out on her first solo broom ride has gotten herself terribly lost and must stay with the guards while they try to figure out where she flew in from.

>A lightning strike has started a fire in the forest outside of town, and the guards must use their tower and signal to help coordinate the evacuation.
>>
>>55119173
>A small band of outlaws inform the watchtower crew that their town has been taken over by the rest of their comrades and to lay down their arms

>For reasons that none of you can remember you hate the guys in the other watchtower a few miles away. One day they communicate an insult to you through flag signals

>The king is touring the realm and has stopped by for a surprise inspection

>You wake up one morning to find you've been snowed in by a blizzard

>A dragon tears the tower from its foundations with you all inside it and plans to use it to store her eggs. She charges you all with looking after them.

>A baby is left outside the tower with a note asking you to care for it

>A particularly anal magistrate comes by and claims your tower has been ill maintained and has broken several newly passed occupational health and safety laws
>>
>>55119173
>for some reason the watchtower is lavishly decorated.
http://www.cordouan.culture.fr/en#/en/pano/chapelle/t=Royal%20chapel
>you have to find a suitable replacement for furniture after walking on the priceless carpets with muddy boots or ripping some cushion with your armor.
>>

>Your watchtower was built by a long-forgotten general with a ludicrous budget surplus, and was the height of architectural and martial decadence for its time.

>As such, it has become something of a cherry position usually awarded to the best and brightest cadets once they have finished their military training.

>For some reason, the PCs were given this highly sought-after post, beating out the guardsmen in the next tower over who hate them for their good fortune.
>>
>A great artist is visiting the region looking for inspiration and stops by your guardtower and offers a reward to the guard that can take them to the prettiest spot in the area

>A group of pixies ask for permission to settle in the tower, or for your help in reclaiming their home

>a path to the feywild opens up nearby at certain times. a fey creature is stuck on this side and needs help finding the way home
>>
>A local village boy constantly calls the guard tower with false messages and emergencies. After several days without a prank call however, the boy's mother appears at the tower worried

>A new recruit appears at the tower, and your group shows them the ropes of maintaining the tower and protecting the area

>During a particularly bad storm, one of the players peers out a window while climbing the staircase and sees a sunny, picturesque countryside with a lovely lake. There is supposed to be a Mountain there.

>A mysterious merchant comes to the guard tower to sell his wares. When asked how much they cost, he cackles and says, "Everything has a price." For some reason, the Captain of the guard-tower vouches for him.

>one of the other guards at the tower began doing his patrols with a small gray wolf. Over the past several weeks, several other small animals have started joining them. When questioned, the guard appears confused and says the animals have always walked with them.
