In the meantime I was planning on having him footslog with the dreadnoughts, advancing and repairing them as such eventually getting into close combat with them since tempest hammers are pretty mean. Working on a Chaplain Dreadnought, but cant decide between 2 CCWs or 1 and a Flamestorm Cannon

It's overcast, but doesn't feel likely to rain.
I've got one last tiny bit of my current crop to prime.

Is it generally worth the risk, or am I better off holding off?

well I'm a little rusty since I haven't played since 3rd, but here are some other observations about your lists

- I have heard from multiple sources that Bjorn is a straight up beast in 8th so far, but you might consider a hellfrost cannon or a plasma cannon over the assault cannon for their versatility and range. One of the things that makes Bjorn great is that he has <10 wounds and is a character, so he cannot be targeted if you have other units closer to the shooting unit. This means that the assault cannon's short range can be a bit of a liability for taking advantage of this.
- In previous editions as far as I'm aware, Wolves had to take at least 1 pack of Grey Hunters. I don't know how this will translate for 8th edition detachments when the SW codex comes out, but you might consider swapping out those BC's for now
- Long Fangs can reroll 1's to hit, so that makes plasma cannons OP with them (you can just overcharge them like every turn). Lascannons are still important, but I would swap out the missile launchers if I were you
- Have you seen some of the leaked SW rules? Arjac Rockfist is a motherfucking beast, you might consider working him into your list somehow with a squad of SS/TH assault termies to deep strike in with

I've liked 40k for a long time, going to start the hobby soon. Is skirmish/kill team content impossible to find outside the specialty games like Necromunda? I mean, I'll play some Necromunda, but I'd like to use my dudes (of whatever faction they are) once they're made. I'm not as interested in the massive scale. I know it's what 40k is built for, but I was wondering if anyone here had luck playing smaller model count stuff.

Also, here's a PDF of some updated Kill Team rules released by Warhammer World for a one day event that took place yesterday. Thought someone might find it neat to see an 8th ed update. If anyone at my local hobby stores expresses interest, maybe we could use this to play skirmish games.

Otherwise having just finished the bulk of my army (long story short didn't like the wolves color scheme so i came up with my own chapter) there are a couple things left I want to work on. Two of them being an Arjac Rockfist conversion and a squad of long fangs with plasma cannons, as soon as I saw that they could re roll ones I knew I had to get a squad of them kitted out for all that STR 8 bullshit, considering having them wearing mk iii armor with the mars pattern plasma cannons from forgeworld

Also grey hunters haven't been a mandatory unit since 4th I believe

sure ill dump the rest of my shit might as well take the time to give a quick rundown of the lore, first time writing up my own stuff and I want to avoid snowflake territory

The Sons of Ymir are an Iron Hands successor chapter that retain some aspects of their proginators beliefs such as the superiority of the machine, have some beliefs of their own. The flesh and nature are not abhorred so much but just seen as a step that all life must take only the worthy being granted the honor of becoming augmented with the strength of the machine or more so being interred into a dreadnought and joining the ranks of the jotunn. As such augments are only used to mend damage battle brothers endure in battle, not for needless self improvements like those in the mechanicus and Iron Hands practice.

The chapter revere dreadnoughts to the point of worship, seeing them as those worthy of being uplifted with the endurance of a mountain by the hands of the all father Ymir (The Big E).

TLDR Iron Hands but more paganistic in their form of machine worship instead of the monastic/catholic style of worship the Mechanicus/Iron hands practice

They're interesting because they're normal terminators that trade their 2+/5++ and teleport strike for basically double the shooting, way more mobI lift and T5. If they shoot twice, they will each outshoot an immobile assault cannon (against MEQs), all for the same price as an ordinary terminator.

What I wish they had were some equivalent of melee terminators, aggressors with lightning claws or storm shields.

The other weird thing about boltstorm aggressors is that they'll still kill 1 marine per model even when they advance, which for white scars means 10.5" per movement phase, nearly as fast as jump packs

I'm doing my own, but frankly 8e seems to take to it pretty well, barring things like defining "units" and morale tests.

With the vehicle cost increase and the simultaneous survivability upgrade/downgrade means you don't necessarily need to write in a proscription for them, as the cheapest ones like Sentinels are fine and the ones that skirt the line of affordability leave little room for more dudes.

Of course, my own version is being written at the 150 point level, so it's already incredibly restricted and writes out a great deal of more expensive options.

Putting anything other than a bolter on a 1 wound marine is a risky proposition in 8th. It just seems like everything needs 2 wounds to be viable. It's way too easy to damage things.

Put a sorcerer on a bike who knows warptime so he can move fast and twice to make up for the loss of movement while attempting summons. That's not my (or his) point. The point was that let's say it was only Imperium and Xenos playing. Chaos are the default winner, regardless of how many games they actually win. The 'one store' is totally irrelevant if GW considers 0 wins for Chaos and 0 points (due to xenos reducing it) Imperium as 100% chaos victory, which goes to the larger overall %.
