I'd suggest mixing your weapons on your havocs more. Since everyone has split fire there is no reason not to and it makes it much harder for enemies to focus down whatever it is they fear. If they want lascannons dead they'll have to kill heavy bolters or autocannons and the reverse is true.

Depends on what you're trying to do with him. Halberd and Hammerhand wounds MEQs on a 2+. Warding Stave and Sanctuary gives you a 3+ invul. Daemonhammer hits shit on a 3+ and is obviously, well, a hammer. It really is up to you.

I finallly tried teaching myself how to play

Today i organized two 25 power level armies, read through the rulebook, and then played a game against myself on my painting table (with My mostly homemade terrain)

The two armies were:
>Red scorpions with Sevrin loth, 5 scouts, an apothecary, and a tac squad
Vs.
>alpha legion lord Arkos, 5 CSM, a hellbrute, and 20 cultists

I realized a couple different times when i fucked up a rule or forgot to add a modifyer but overall the game went pretty smoothly for a first time ever playing

Highlights included:
>half a tac squad getting killed turn 1 because they ran into the open not realizing they werent in weapons range
>Loth smite-spamming everyone for plenty of mortal wounds
>scouts doing work and killing plenty of cultists without a single loss on their end

And then finally i had one lucky bastard apothecary who was attached to that half a tac squad that got wiped.
This lucky fucker ended up chucking two krak grenades in overwatch, one which did 2 wounds to arkos, and another which did 2 wounds and FUCKING KILLED THE HELLBRUTE who had already taken some smite damage

But he didnt stop there! He then proceded to bail out the other half a tac squad who were being assaulted. He killed two alpha legion marines one turn and then revived a fallen tactical marine the next turn
And he only failed to save one wound right at the end.

Im calling him "Krak'r Jack" the Apothecary and hoping that he stays lucky in future games.

Turns out playing warhams is just as fun as painting them! Im sure it will be better when i am better at handling the rules too.

As unfortunate as it may be we're probably just keeping what we got with WoM unit-wise, anon. Better not to expect much so you don't get as disappointed. At most maybe some rules so we can port over things like the osiron dread as a psychic helbrute/dread or maybe the AoS stuff, but that seems unlikely too.
Just expect the usual warlord traits/stratagems/relics and hopefully some fun psyker abilities.

Inquisitors literally have a spell this edition that lets them mind control enemy characters and make them take a swing or fire a weapon at an enemy unit.

Ehh, it can depend. Sometimes the dice just don't go in your favour. I played a game today where I failed 3 critical charges with Orks. And we're talking 6 and 7 inch charges here. Once that happened I didn't really have much of a chance, because the units I failed to charge then proceeded to blow my units off the board with shooting.

You can argue that I should have built my list differently but we're talking Orks here; you can't build for shooting because GW decided that handing every Imperial player double the shots whilst crippling Ork shooting was fair.

Bad luck can obviously happen but it's a dice game and a casual one at that and it seems silly to choose to play a dice game then get upset that dice are random. If you want a balanced wargame play chess. There's also always something in a game you could have probably done differently to win blaming luck alone removes any form of introspection.

Though a lot of the time I think what people think is bad luck is just confirmation bias as they ignore when they do get lucky or perform within average and only focus on the bad. For example one eyore I played entirely looked over the turn his sentinel made 3 6+ saves in a row against lascannon hits because that would go against the narrative that he lost because of luck.

In respects to competitive play you can also do a lot to mitigate luck or make it work for you. That's why unit redundancy is important so you have a lot of units that individually may flop but together should perform averagely. Likewise you can play in such a way that takes advantage of your own potential to get lucky so that when you do it will be particularly significant.

I thought the rules for deploying a transport with passengers was pretty simple, that putting down the transport with all the units inside it counted as one single turn of deployment and the next you just set up another unit as normal

But multiple people at the club insist that each unit starting the battle inside it still each consume a turn at deploying, and so that when I put my Battlewagon down carrying the Warboss and a unit of Meganobz, I had to let my opponents put down three units before I was able to deploy my next

Was this elaborated in an FAQ or are they talking garbage

Whilst that's true, and a different topic to the discussion, what I find very frustrating in 8th edition is the ability of some armies to largely negate the luck factor. Today I fought a Salamanders player who just had rerolls everywhere. Aside from his 1 free reroll to hit and wound per squad, he also had rerolls on melta and flamers, and from his chapter master. Same with a chaos player I played before that; it was depressing to watch him hitting on 2+ with rerolls of 1. I mean at that point it stops being luck and just becomes near certainty. The fact that my army, Orks, has virtually no rerolls, does make that sting a bit more I must admit, but it's also really not fun when the luck element is taken out of the game with excessive rerolls.

Magnus' ability to wreck things in melee can not be overstated, but even her struggles against 1500pts of pain. However, it may be possible to actually kill that thing in one turn, with the right setup.

To begin with, Warhound has T9, 35W and 3+/3+ void save. Interesting to note that he doesn't get any save against Blade of Magnus, so given his 35 wound, Magnus would only need 12 hits, or 36 damage, to go through. However, that 3+ void save does work against Smite, severely limiting its usefulness. In general, you probably don't want to bother casting it, opting for other spells instead.

So you need 12 wounds. With 7 attacks base, you pretty much have to get +1 attack Warlord Trait. With Magnus, you want to cast Weaver of Fates(so you don't get vaporized on Overwatch), Warptime to get to Titan and, finally, Prescience if Titan is Imperial. Additionally, you want to have Sorc around to cast Diabolic Strength on Magnus - this will raise his S to 18, allowing him to wound the Titan on 2s, as well adding an additional attacks. That means 9 attacks base, hitting on 2s rerolling 1s and getting additional attacks on 5+, with 12 attacks being about average. Then, you have to roll those 12 attacks and hope that you don't get any ones, or only one you can CP reroll - if you manage to do that, you will actually manage to cut down Titan in a single turn.

Setup is fairly simple; while you need rather specific powers and Warlord Traits, only thing that has to be included is additional sorcerer that is needed for Diabolic Strength. You need to get lucky with getting your powers off and then procing DttFE, but even if you don't outright kill Titan, you will heavily cripple him, as only 16 wounds will make him go from BS/WS/M/Void shield 5+/2+/24"/3+ to 6+/4+/12"/6+.

That being said, Warhound does have some brutal Overwatch. Inferno Gun will inflict 7 damage 4 wounds on average, so you really want to have Weaver of Fates on.

To be fair, my Admech aren't affected at all, since Cawl is I think the only buff in the game that says "can reroll To Hits" regardless of their success. Allows us to reroll modifed faliures, as well as theoretically rerolling some hits in order to leave a couple baddies alive to charge, if that's what you want to do.

Pretty damn niche, but nice to have. Still think that the current way the rule is set up is kinda stupid.

What? You've just slightly mitigated the debuff by rerolling the increased number of fails, it's not made you stronger.
It also decreases the success chance of the rerolls you'd already get on the ones and twos, which means you haven't even mitigated it much.

This mission is EZPZ for chaos, they really made it heavily bias towards them.

He tried to rush off the table turn two with lots of jump pack units but I just pounced on them at the end of turn 1 and butched them all.
