I also highly, highly recommend you go out and do tutorials, like how to design a map or how to make metal-like text. Tutorials like these also often help you navigate the UI easier; I've had a lot of moments where I went "wow, I never knew that," and I still strongly believe that there's a lot for me to still learn.

Overall I'll use undead to serve as both military and labourers. Intelligent undead might be useful for recording information.

Out of my human servants, the best will be granted reincarnation and their bodies will be modified into a high level golem after their death.

I'll be using my skills to make sure all the people are healthy, and long lived. Really I'm more of a healer than a necromancer. Plus I can make people age half as fast.

Once people die and reincarnate, they regain their memories and can start spreading good information about me even if they appear in different nations. And then they can gain some converts and travel back to meet me.

Luckily with muse and tangibility and blink I'll basically be an eternal god which can have second tries on any event.

I cant however empower mortals too much. Mostly I just increase their charisma and their lifespans. The rest is up to them. Humans must build the world for humans after all. I'm just here to point them in the right direction (and enjoy some very special worshipping ceremonies.)

After having a bunch of fun with the stuff posted in these threads I wanted to contribute something myself.

Seeing as almost every other CYOA seems to go into ultra overpowered builds I decoded to go for something a bit more grounded while still providing escapism. So I'm taking inspiration from old pulp fiction and I'm preparing an expedition to LOST WORLDS(TM)

It's sort of hard to explain. Imagine you're given a companion, like a dog. You get to choose the breed and such, which is fine, but then to choose how it behaves, what it likes, what it doesn't like, and how much it loves you? Specifically I mean, not choosing from a selection of dogs with varying stats. I mean cranking up the dog's love setting by choice. Somehow that feels wrong. Maybe I'm just thinking about it too much.

Your concerns and morals are perfectly sound, but you're applying them in a context where they have no intrinsic value. Whether you're okay with the idea of creating a character to match your preferences is really a matter of personal taste more than of ethics.

When writing a character for a short story, I try to incorporate at least one trait I normally find distasteful, or don't have a strong understanding of. I believe this makes them more interesting by way of making me think from a foreign perspective as I write them, and it keeps my characters from overlapping too much. at the same time, though, there are traits that end up repeating themselves anyway across my work. For example, I like having stoic, disciplined men and capricious, free-spirited women in my stories.

Most of the time, what people find attractive or desirable in another person is what's familiar to them. There's nothing wrong with seeking similarities between yourself and a character you're invested in within a story. It allows you to feel empathy, which is a driving force for any emotional impact the story hopes to have.

Creating a character who you can empathize with and understand makes the story and events they participate in to be that much more personally significant to you. CYOAs are about trying to find some sort of fulfillment or satisfaction in a hypothetical scenario and its conclusion. It's only natural that making such a character would make that feeling easier to reach.

We want to empathize with the characters we create, so we give them common ground by way of traits we like and understand. Sometimes that means giving them fat anime tiddies and hearts that go doki doki when they see us after school.

I was just about to ask if you were the guy who brought up the single parent CYOA a thread or two ago.

I had a similar idea that involved being forced by circumstance to adopt the child of a distant relative. You could use that as a way to avoid creating a character who loves you by default. Maybe set some conditions to earn the kid's respect and trust as the main challenge posed by the CYOA.

Power level purchase is a bit iffy. Especially since there exists weird broken abilities.

If you really liked the power level thing, maybe consider adding it on top of the regular point buy thing? Like, I want to buy magnetism for X points and I want it to be level 5 potential so multiple (or add) Y points.

Of course a regular point buy is fine too.

Those are two totally different examples. Wolverine and Hulk fight because they both have goals that intersect, usually it's that Wolverine wants the Hulk to stop being the Hulk and the Hulk doesn't. The Punisher is best played as a villain. I know what an anti-hero is, I'm saying the Punisher is a villain who thinks he's a hero, and that's the best way to use him.

The Punisher is always used as an example of an anti-hero, but unless you sincerely think that murder solves problems I don't know how. A better example is Batman, who defies the law to save people and catch criminals.
