Let they play to the sillyness. Throw in silly stuff. For example (you have robots so im guessing its at least modern) The next session makes them go to a paint factory, the silly guys get covered in paint of diffrent colors.
Bonus points if its the power ranger colors before having to fight that giant robot.

Or they have to save a princess but shes really ugly.

Or some kid gets their rare pokemon tradeing card stolen. The pcs beat down they guy who stole it then find out he has had it stolen by someone else and this happens about 4 times down the line with the thief being stronger and stronger each time.
Last that guy steals it is super strong. BBG strong. But turns out to be the kids dad who just wants to get a gift for his kid.

That's some really good advice. I'll have to find a way to incorporate more light-hearted antics into the game so that the less serious players will have fun as well. For some reason I figured I couldn't do that because I'd ruin it for the more serious players.

No way dude. Try to avoid mucking around with the serious pcs for two reasons
1. They may not WANT to act like fools
2. They get their moments to shine later on

skill, if they respond well dump that paint on them too.
It dosn't need to be LoLz random.

One of my favourite silly moments I had was in shadowrun. I put money as my lowest stat so I didnt really have the funds needed to buy a suit for a club we had to hit up. So I got one and spent a few rounds - Maybe 3 mins- dodging drinks and food as we went to the back of the club to talk to someone.
Then around 5-8 mins once I left the club and had to deal with a crying drunk woman out the back of the club, then taking the suit back to the shop for a refund. I felt the other players enjoyed it too as I was playing it as a stooge
