so my lgs decided to stop all commander nights and wants to focus solely in standard because that makes them the most money. Now I can't play commander at the shop and commander with my friends gets boring because only one other friend actually likes building new decks and everyone else just plays the same thing every time and it gets boring. What should I do? I don't want to pay for magic online and most commander nights are during the week at the other stores near me and I work early in the morning so I usually can't participate in those.

Probably minor, but yes. And I think it would be interesting to have a remnant of Urabrask escape and join the Mirran resistance. That was a pretty large element of the Phyrexian forces in the Weatherlight saga, with Crovax and Ertai and Tsabo all scheming against each other, it comes as naturally to Phyrexians as being horrific mixtures of technology and biology.

I've tried all the Grixis deck Commanders, and Queen Marchesa.

It's a combo deck, but it's not up to date with Amonkhet, let alone Hour of Devastation.

Thing is, I'm going to college so I have no clue what they're like. I really don't play into my playgroups, though.

I like doing cool things primarily, but I also want to be able to win sometimes.

I'd say look at all the precons from the past few years and see if any sound cool to you. they're only 35-40 dollars, not terrible, and can be easily upgraded. if you like it upgrade it, if you dislike it you're not out too much and they usually have some cards that will be good in other decks.

Bolas has stated none of his fellow elder dragons remain, but Palladia was put under a sleeping spell rather than having been killed outright. I've spent about $2,000 USD on MTG in the last 450 days. My collection from the start of that was worth about $1,000. I now have two EDH decks worth around 600, another worth 300, 3 standard decks worth about ~200 each, and 1 modern deck worth about 300. The rest of my collection is worth roughly around the 2,000 dollars I've spent, not including bulk.

All I can say is this, I've gotten incredibly lucky in purchasing singles and selling at their peak. I had purchased 20 torrential gearhulks at 10ea before PTKLD, and they spiked to 30 and i dumped all but a playset for myself. I've been fortunate enough to have cash lying around and use that to "take advantage" of people needing money. I bought a modern collection from someone for 130, even though if the guy took the time, he could have sold for 400.

All of this, and yet, I feel like I still don't have shit. I don't have many cards worth more than 20-25. How do I cross this threshold?

Just listened to the wizard magic story podcast and heard the art description for Mairsil, which included a "saber grip wand". I couldnt find a reference for that with google since his wand didnt really look like that, but I did find Wand of Ith which is in fact a wand shaped like a saber. I was a little sad that the artist didnt pick up on that easter egg. I bet a lot of people would have liked that reference.

Wands can be interchangeable and have been largely forgotten for the most part since MtG has done it's best to distance itself from Harry Potter type wizardry.
I just wanted Mairsil's ring to have been an artifact. I woudl've much prefered that in the deck over one of the 4 incredibly expensive boardwipes in the deck.

The fact that he's wearing a plain vest rather than his 5-colored robes also shows that this is not the kind of Mairsil that paraded around the Conclave like King Shit, this is the Mairsil that's gloating over you as he lowers you into a deep, dark pit, only to be a battery for him for the rest of your miserable life.

There was a bit of a hiccup with the system and she was scared it was weakening. She put out a distress signal, but neither Ugin nor Sorin answered it. She managed to get it back under control by herself, but was concerned about Ugin and Sorin, because she believed the only reason they wouldn't have shown up is if something had happened to them. She went to find Sorin first, and got upset that the reason he didn't come is because the Helvault prevented him from receiving her call and he hadn't taken that risk into account. She demanded he come back with her to double check her hotfix, but Sorin had expended too much energy creating Avacyn and the vault. She took his refusal as a lack of respect for her, so she decided to prove herself by challenging him to a Planeswalker Duel. Sorin, weakened by his efforts, was afraid that Nahiri would be able to overcome him and destroy Avacyn, which he couldn't afford to let happen. He stuck her in the vault rather than take the chance of her lashing out again.

Everyone made a bunch of bad decisions, worst of all Ugin, who was stupid enough to be dead at the time.

Just start buying them desu. I feel similarly to you but have been significantly improving my EDH collection and I'll play powerful cards like Survival of the Fittest or LED no problem. The foils, right? Urza's foils are the best ever but those ones are like $150+ so I settled for a nonfoil copy of each. The effects are classic, iconic, and on the reserved list so save up for them for your enchantment deck.

Atraxa is a linear pubstomp that's overhyped because proliferate is just about the most value mechanic in the game that let's you think you're playing smart when all you're doing is setting up a snowball.

Tokens and counters are fun in theory, but can often get exhausting on the board, mostly for token but can apply to counters since if you miss and single trigger it can monumentally fuck up the game.

As far as 2016 goes Atraxa is generally the best out-of-the-box, but with C17 hitting the shelves in the next few days Cats are going to trump it.

How do you mid-range in black?

I have a fuckload of efficient beaters, and like 14 mana rocks on top of things like coffers/magus and I can't figure it out.

Reanimator is way too unreliable outside of combos because it relies on dead draws hitting the yard AND reanimation spells to do anything. All the best beaters cost around 4 cmc so you can only start doubling down at 8 mana even if you have the card draw. Am I thinking about this wrong?

She's not bad at all (for Boros that is).
I played at tables with good decks, and I won 2/3 games. She hits like a truck and is hard to remove, especially with boots on. Only problem was bricking due to bad draws and not getting one of the many draw or value engines onto the field.

After repeat this process a few hundred thousand times the pen will have reached the paper, except now she has to write with it.
Each time she manages to scratch the paper, ink won't flow
Now remember, she onky has one piece of paper
So she has to carefully adjust the pen to be touching the very corners of the paper over the course of many more tries
But given the amount of time between each grabbing of the pen, so much time will have passed that the ink at the tip of the pen will have dried
But since this is the only thing she can do, she will endless occupy herself with the pen and paper.

Depends what kind of ramp, I have 17 in my karametra deck, but some of those are expensive (mirari's wake, vorinclex, zendikar resurgent) and don't serve the same purpose as cheap mana dorks and land fetch spells, and I only have 32 lands. I also have some big mana sinks like Genesis wave and duskwatch Recruiter so ramp usually isn't dead

17 would be way too much in a lot of decks though, especially ones that don't have much to spend it on
