so, Steampunk is set in the past, with cogs and whatnots
Cyberpunk is set in "the future" except it's becoming obsolete.
You've got dieselpunk, and modempunk, retro-rayguns, biopunk, or whatever
What's the next "future" subgenre coming?
I mean, if you go full space-ships you end up in Space Opera. We've got a spectrum of various environmental / fuel / technological -punks.
Genderpunk? NASApunk?
Whatever it is, I hope they stop using "punk" frivolrously

I hope "Art - " comes back in
Art Deco, Art Nouveau, Art Neon
if you want the saturdaymorning cartoon version of the 90s instead of the scifi novel version of the 90s, replace "punk" with "gunk"
>Cybergunk
>Steamgunk
>Dieselgunk
Post-cyberpunk has been a thing since GITS and Diamond Age.
I could see corporate genderpunk taking off.
>you are an undercover Fucking White Male who hacks gender identities to navigate the SJW-controlled megacorps
>become trans-black to pass an affirmative-action interview
>hormone therapy for social status boosts

Cyberpunk's been dead since the mid 90s senpai. Cyberdystopic's still a style though, mostly for the more operationally militantly inclined and people who liked robocop a lot. Paolo Bacigalupi and Richard K. Morgan did variations on it for a bit that were fun but its a form at this point. It'll probably cycle out/to a minimal level for a bit, then get remarketed and/or tuned into a tv show.
Already happening with Altered Carbon.
Transhumanism singularity shit has been enough of a thing post cyberpunk in scifi that is already gone. That was the mid 2000s till a few years ago. Lots of attempts at space opera revival, post apocalyptic variations because people will not get tired of zombies and for some reason time travel in contemporary scifi. Goes in cycles.
