So, I bought a Giant Chaos Spawn from FW, but I'm not sure the best way to get him into my chaos army. I was thinking taking a small daemon patrol detachment.

I can't take him in the same detachment as my CSM if I want the legion trait right?

Are these brushes good for painting infantry? About to buy my first start collecting box and I'm trying to save a little cash by getting some basic supplies elsewhere. How does one write Space Marines?

Personally I like to see them as lacking in core emotions like empathy and sorrow and love which makes conversing with regular humans awkward though they are mostly oblivious to it.

I wouldn't gamble on cheap paint though. If you thin your paint properly you won't go through it that quickly.

If you are going to get a value pack I would suggest one with some variety in brush sizes. Get one with a brush with a very thin and short point. Those kind of value packs generally don't have the best quality, that's why they come in a pack of a couple of brushes for just a few dollars. They work just fine, honestly you don't really need expensive brushes. Some people will tell you that you will get better results with them, and in all honesty you would, but those are an investment that might be better made down the line when you've learned a bit more. You might have better luck asking in WIP i'm sure there would be some of them who would be happy to give you a detailed explanation. To be honest I don't know all of the particulars by heart. Like i said, i use mostly shit brushes with only one or two nice ones, and I picked those up because I was told they would be better by a professional not because I understood why.

What are people thinking for Plague Marine loadouts?

Ranged seems simple, 2 Blight Launchers and a Plasma on the champ.

Melee I'm think Axes with a few Flails. Maces are definitely garbage, Cleavers I'm not sure about.

Generally not a great painter, and while I really like having my models finished and there's satisfaction to having done it myself, I'm not a big fan of doing the actual painting. Farseer has 24" range for fortune, rerolling misses to hit. Autarch has an aura of reroll 1's to hit, warlock has a conceal bubble granting shadows -2 to be hit. Comes out to maximum 24 S6 AP-3 hits per 3 count squad, maximum 66 for the 10 count including soulburst bonus shooting phase of which there are plenty of min units to provide it on death. Yvraine camps back field with a unit of scourges for 8 dark lance shots from one unit with free soulburst, 4 from the other. Yncarne spawns from a dead unit on the board at any point in the game.

Not sure if its optimal to have as many min units of spectre w/exarch as I can in addition to some DL ravagers instead of the skyreaver across multiple vanguard detachments. Increasing the amount of smaller units I have gives me more soulburst but for purposes of conceal having a number of 10 is beneficial

The rusted metal look was definitely what I was going for. One of the guys at my GW store suggested leadbelcher base > typhus corrosion wash > ryza rust drybrush. I threw on an Agrax Earthshade wash after the drybush to mute it a bit, think it helped.

I look at some of the amazing paint jobs I see and I'm envious, but I know I don't have the dedication/patience to hit that point, so I'm trying to be happy with what I can reasonably put out on my own, and hopefully just improve over time naturally.

Yeah I don't really suggest non-miniature paint. This a throw-away gaunt I had lying around I decided to paint using Liquitex Basics paint sometime last year as a test.

I thinned it down to just a bit thicker than the proper skim-milk-esque consistency, and added a drop of 20 parts waters 1 part flow-aid. I could live with it but I'd rather just use Vallejo if I want to save some dosh.

GW wants you to make an Emperor's Children and/or World Eaters chaos lord variant. How do you design it? Name, options, looks, etc?

Well, I run Emperor's Children, seeking perfection is kind of part of the package.
Seems like you're emulating the "doesn't matter" aspect of your chosen cult legion too though.
If you practice you will get better, the more you paint the more you'll get better, filtering through criticism and looking for the things you can improve on objectively is a good way to improve too. You will get people who don't help and just say "it's shit" though too.
Just keep painting anon, I guess that might be easy for me to say since I do want to improve and I kind of enjoy the painting itself, but you should still try.

Personally? I portray them as killing machines with personalities bolted onto them. They've undergone years of subliminal indoctrination and combat drills that have implanted transhuman killing ability and combat behavior before most other boys have appreciable chesthair. My bad, you are correct. I was going off my copy of the book and forgot the FAQ. Still a do-nothing hero compared to force multipliers(farseer, warlock, autarch, yvrainne) and cc monsters(Avatar, Yncarne). Doesn't even come in as the cheapest Ynnari hero (that would be yvrainne) so you don't even get to take him just for the army special rules at a bargain.

He gets worse when you realize that most armies get heroes who can effectively fill both roles.

I honestly can't find a way to field him that doesn't feel like a waste. If I want a killy autarch I just look to yriel who's 2/3rds the price and almost as deadly while still keeping his reroll1s aura.

That all being said and done I own a Visarch and holy fuck that model is bad ass. I want to field him with Yvrainne just for fluffy reasons and to show off the paint job he's going to fucking score.

The Daemonette thing is just a personal pet peeve. Everyone forgets that they're supposed to be androgynous to appeal to everyone, not just straight dudes.

I kinda wish GW would add more detachments. The current ones are okay, but some armies will never be able to run stuff like the Brigade Detachment and the limits of theBattallion detach doesn't feel very fair to armies with few troop choices. The smaller ones (1HQ, 3 Troop/FA/HS/Elite) are a step in the right direction, but some other +3 CP formations would be nice to have. Something like 2-4 HQ, 1 Elite, 1 Troop, 1 HS, or 1-3 HQ, 2 FA, 2 Elite, or 2-5HQ, 1 FA, 2HS. Just stuff to mix it up and give more options.

While its fun to read Marines blazing across the Galaxy purging uncounted evils it can be equally fun and also quite tragic to read what they had to sacrifice to face that evil.

The absolute kicker for me is when a Marine experiences a feeling which is alien yet familiar. because its alien, every fibre of his beings hates and purges it with all his inner might, yet it persist.

And that's because that feeling is love, a Space Marine has been genetically engineered to hate the very thing which makes him human.

Even if you could make an argument that a specific type of unit (e.g. Devastators) is still useful. I'd rather use the Primaris marines instead.

If you're still around, try starting out with 2 squads of rubrics and a Sorcerer to start practicing assembling and painting. Duncan has some excellent tutorials for how to paint them you can find on Youtube. Unfortunately, 1ksons are not the most beginner friendly army for painting so I'd recommend getting some practice in before trying your hand at the more centerpiece models like Ahriman or Magnus.

You can also run Tzeentch Daemons alongside Thousand Sons without any problems. If you're interested in that, I'd recommend the Tzeentch Daemon start collecting box.

There's no citation, but there's common sense.

Here's what we know:

1. There are Crone Worlds in the Eye of Terror wheren the Eldar used to live.
2. These are extremely dangerous places overrun by the forces of Chaos. CWE have to ninja in and out if they want to grab soulstones or artifacts.
3. There are Eldar that still live on the Crone Worlds in permanent residence. These used to be outright "confirmed" (i.e. in the old Inquisition Wars novels), but even now they are hinted at (for example, in that main rulebook listing the main groups of Eldar).
4. In these older sources, they were Chaos worshippers.

We can presume that Crone World eldar still worship the Chaos Gods if those hints are taken as confirmation of them still being canon. How else would they survive and not just get instantly chomped on by Slaanesh? They would need the patronage of the other Gods to make it.

Furthermore, even though the Inquisition War books aren't canon, that doesn't mean every little thing was removed from the universe. Shit like Squats in the Throne Room, or Jaq Draco talking to the Emperor, etc., that's what got axed. There's nothing in the current canon that contradicts Crone World eldar being Chaos worshippers, and it's the only explanation that makes sense.

Not table-top really but... decided to play Imperium of Mankind in Stellaris... and to make it authentic I made 35 'races' from 40k. Specifically 15 of those 'races' are the various Ork Waaaghs! All Fanatical Militaristic.

I've expanded the Imperium early on... my corner of the galaxy is mostly empty. I just finished purging an Eldar fiefdom... when suddenly a new empire has translated my language. And then another. And then another.

8 of the 15 Ork Waaaghs! are a nearby neighbor I had yet run into. All of them have formed a federation.
