I'm thinking of either bumping one of my 20s up to 30, or adding a second priest (third prayer). I COULD use more 30 rat blobs, but I like the fire support from a warp lightning cannon ally

Reposting in new bread:
Haunted forest anon here. What are some good crossovers I can use between death and Sylvaneth that could count as things from either side? Obviously big stuff like Terrorgeists don't really have an equivalent, but a lot does I think with a bit of creative modeling and kit bashing.

Dryads = Zombies/Skeletons?
Revenants = Spirit Hosts
Branchwych = Cairnwraith
Branchwraith = Banshee
Kira both = Morghasts?

Not sure on the sizes in the Morghasts and Dryads. Any other ideas or input? I'm really liking this idea.
>>
Army fluff idea: in the realm of life there exists a cemetery within a forest for people who fought against chaos but were not cool enough to become stormcast. Signal saved the souls ignored the departed from the forces of chaos and death, and their bodies were laid to rest there.

Sometimes they are called to return to their corporal bodies either to defend their graves or to fight against evil once more. Even in death they gladly defend against those who would despoil life and those who fight against the light of Sigmar.

What rules would best represent these?

Hey guys
I've been playing strictly chaos since AoS came out but I've recently wanted to build and paint up my starter set stormcast.
Any suggestions on what to add onto the starter force? Should I go for the ranger guys or not? thanks

the usual meta is irrelevant because the GHB is a massive change to the game

you can play mass infantry, monster mash, herohammer, spell spam, artillery_sniper420_xx, whatever you want
>>

I want a new monster for my rats, but I dunno what to take
>>
>>54995984
>>54996168

From just hearsay, Heroes and monsters die really easy to fire.
So you either Yolo with your hero or keep him at the back casting buffs (there's tons of buffs now).
OR he's one of the few gargantuan beasts that can't be killed easily.

Spamming good ranged units, and having a somewhat durable unit of infantry or cavalry that you absolutely fill to the brim with buffs is the way to go.

Again, I never played a single game, just hearsay from others.
Fire is very dangerous and everything is fragile except some big, big exceptions.
Massive units of mooks are usually good or useful. Elite risks being butchered before it can act.

>>
>>54998069
It's not like -1 rend would do anything either. If anything, -1 would be better for the Guard since it would be a waste of points of the other guys.
>>
Are Saurus Knights still bad? Can I finally field my army of nothing but Dinosaurs on Dinosaurs?
>>
>>54998195
The point is that if your army doesn't have some Rend-2 or mortal wounds then it's a shit tier army because it will lose to a bad army like saurus guard spam
>>
>>54998304
I use a mainly saurus guard army but it doesn't do well, should I get more? I only have 15, and when they go down from some unlucky rolls I'm pretty much done. I've been thinking of getting another 15, but most of the people at my FLGS play 40k now. They got me into it too, I still like AoS more.
>>
>>54998266
Saurus knights at 100 points per 5 is really nuts. You can directly compare them to Liberators:

2 wounds vs 2 wounds
More attacks
Higher move, can march to move 14" per turn
Better attacks (though the stormcast special weapons make them very close in terms of damage output)
Seraphon synergy lets them reroll hits, adds bonus attacks to their bites and mount attacks, reroll charges, reroll saves, double damage on wound6 bite attacks (both rider and mount!), and more
5+ save vs 4+ save, but you can ignore Rend-1

They don't have any Rend but you can find other ways to punch through armor with Seraphon. Carnosaur should have access to Rend-2 bites now, which is fantastic and exactly what Seraphon needed.

Yeah Knights are gonna be bretty gud now

Already making a Bloodclaw list with 20+ knights
>>
>>54998376
Guard suck. They can have a 2+ rerollable save that ignores Rend-1 but they crumble hard to any kind of mortal wounds.

A single knight heraldor can kill 20-60% of your squad per turn.

They might be better in a metagame with horde units, though
>>
>>54998403
I've heard that Warriors that aren't in blocks of 40 weren't that great either. What should my frontline/battleline be then, my little Skink dudes?
I don't have any knights, they look tempting to use now, but honestly I think their Cold Ones model look really derpy so I didn't really like to use them.

DESU if seraphon were still lizards, I would have had a harder time choosing my army last year. Instead I was full ratkin.
>>
>>54998440
Saurus Warriors in blocks of 10 are fine for battleline right now. Neither Guard or Warriors will do much relevant damage if you're just bringing them as a screen, and having 10 wounds per 100 points is better than 5 wounds per 100.

I'll have to see how having access to 60 point Skinks will change things up. Having to spend only 180 points on battleline tax sounds really awesome. Leaves a LOT of room in a Kroak+Vortex list.
>>

Hamilcar is bretty gud. Try the short story Bear Eater for more. It should be up in the mega. Else he shows up in the hunt for mannfred audio drama. Big boastful guy. Would not call him Cain, more like mythical greek hero type - "Ha ha, I can do this! And that!"-type.
>>
>>55001193
Legends books have some stormcast stories, but not every one of them. Read the Drycha story in the Legends book about Sylvaneth. It's good stuff and you learn more about The Order of the Fly.
>>
>>55000932
I like it. I don't think it's too cancer, at least since you don't run that many Stormfiends. But it's hard to say. I think Horde units will be st ronger in ghb2017, but many don't seem too impressed with skryre's changes in general (probably because old skryre relied on their batallion to do anything) So we'll just have to wait and see.
>>
>>55001180
Nah, they are the Order version of Chaos Warriors. Incidentally, Space Marines armour design was based on Chaos Warriors.
>>
>>55001546
Incidentally, talked to a GW guy just now, supposedly she has the same heavy boltstorm pistol the Lord-Aquilor has and 6 attacks at 3+/3+/-1/1She also rerolls all failed hits and wounds against Heroes and can outflank and run&gun like Vangaurd Hunters. She has NO command ability.

Horticulus supposedly makes all terrain within 12" Sinister for Nurgle units and Deadly for non-Nurgle units, regenerates d3 wounds per turn, causes d3 mortal wounds on any 6 to wound with his shears and has Disgustingly Resilient.
>>
>>55001546
Yeah it doesn't say anything about being empty armour with energy. It clearly says they're still in part human.
>>
Thinking of picking up a Daemon force for 40k, but it'd be nice to work it overtime and try get some AoS in as well.

Leaning towards Tzeentch or Slaanesh but Khorne is a contender, probably not Nurgle as much as I love that new slug model. Any advice or suggestions in general?
>>
>>55002169
>not fielding leasure slug brigade
Its lime you dont want to be comfy
>>
>>55002169
Slaanesh and Tzeentch are pretty good solution in both games.

The problem with Slaanesh is that the KoS model sucks so bad, and in AoS it's a requirement (in 40k you can skip it altogether, Greater Daemons are useless)

Tzeentch have great models, but I found to be boring in 40k.

Slaanesh is far more interesting in both settings, but it's my personal opinion.

>Any advice or suggestions in general?
Daemons are a horde army. Try to paint efficiently, with a colour scheme you know you can do.

After that, not much. If you pick Tzeentch you can literally make an entire army just buying Start Collecting boxes.
If you pick Slaanesh, I suggest to build the Exalted Chariot as a Herald on Seeker Chariot+2 Heralds on Steed (you'll need a few extra bases, but it's worth it).

Exalted Chariots are good in AoS, but total garbage in 40k. Herald or not.
>>
>>54999973
Their bravery is above average, and all stormcast can deep-strike.
>>
>>54995281

Yo do Chaos Marauder kits come with five swords or just one? I wanna make a barbarian themed freeguild sword guard regiment but idk how many sword bitz I need to order.
>>
>>55001858
Gotta see what the other abilities and relics are like, but deranged engineer is already pretty good for my mortars.
I relied heavily on my battalions too, but well now I can't anymore since they just got that much more expensive.
But skryre for me was always a mixed bag, either I'd completely destroy my enemy or kill half my own models end of turn one.
>>
>Sea Helm rules will never be updated.
>Buy a Skycutter, get a useful hero that breaks your allegiance if you use him.

>>
>>54999954
They're balanced by being fucking expensive, have poor movement, a mdeiocre save and low attck volume.
Yes, they'll murder the fuck out of most big shit and small elite units, but they suck balls against hordes, shooting and magic.
They are a good unit, no doubt, but they are hardly gamebreakers.

What do you have?
Verminlords are sexy models, the forgeworld Warlord on Brood Horror is nice too, you could always do some kitbashing to the thanquol kit because while he is good, he is expensive.
>>
>>55002253
Sounds good; if I go for Slaanesh I have some conversions in mind anyway so hopefully can make the Keeper of Secrets a bit more palatable.

If I do go in for either group I'll be trying out a few test models to get the painting routine down right; I can tell Tzeentch is going to be more of a pain on that front, but thats how it is.

Not him but a huge plus is that you can play both 40k and AoS seamlessly by just collecting a single army. Also some people just really like daemonic things.
>>

>>
As someone who doesn't own the fluff books and hasn't bothered to pirate them, what is the lore reason behind putting all the dark elves and shit into Order? Seems really bizarre to me, especially when it comes to the corsairs and their super limited allies list.
>>
>>55002394
Warhammer Fantasy had a gigantic world ending (literally) event where the Elf allegiences essentially dissolved. Malekith was given his rightful place on the throne and the factions began to meld sort of.

The current situation is that being on Order is the most natural side to be on vs Undead, World destroying Daemons or Orcs.
>>
>>55002393
There's none for Clan Skryre, sadly. You'd have to ally one in.
>>
>>55002367
Not him, but if you really like a Chaos God, Daemons get interesting really fast.

Also most of the people don't even start with Daemons. They just add a few Daemons as allies and then they slowly become the main army.
>>
>>55002403
Well, they don't serve the chaos gods and they aren't undead and they don't just crave pure destruction...
And if I recall correctly Malekith did join the good guys in the end times.
Also they may be order, but like...lawful evil order maybe?
>>
>>55002394
Order has the last true cities, so corsairs and pirate gravitate there, that's the explanation for those dudes anyway.
>>
>>55002394
While they are dicks they still prefer to exist without possession, eternal servitude or a bashed-in skull. Order was the only sensible choice.
>>
Hey guys, I just started a Kharadron Overlords army because I love their aesthetics and I heard about the thunderers nerf.
Since I'm starting to build the army and I would like to have a decent list before buying something else (only have an arkanaut company, a frigate and a khemist for now), I'd like to hear some opinions about the new thunderers to understand if I should still buy them as it was my intention already or focus on something else for now.
Painting them as Barak Ziflin btw.
Thanks!
>>
>>55002417
Probably. Its one of the things I can jump on board in regards to the negative of the AoS fluff. Some great fluff of the Elves is currently shelved and as far as AoS is concerned, Elves haven't really been given any form of fluff love or spotlight bar the Wood Elves and that is mostly the dryads.

We'll have to see but so far GW is trying to push Stormcast pretty hard. Hopefully they eventually realize that it may be a better idea to give the spotlight more evenly in it than just Stormies and the ocassional Chaos.
>>
>>55002385
I guess, but I really like the juxtaposition between bulky warriors of Chaos then the ethereal forms of daemons, plus the fact that I still think of daemon's existences in the material world being due to human intervention.

I guess to me having a pure daemon army is like having a plate of cream with no cake. It doesn't help that the unit options are really limited, if you play Tzeentch daemons for eg. you will have all types of Tzeentch daemon because there are no specialists, no alternative choices.

>>55002412
I do really like a Chaos god, so building a force of all his servants and not just the immaterial kind is more interesting to me.
>>
>>55002364

Soul grinders are awesome. 16 wounds and 4+ makes them pretty durable and the 12" move is awesome.

They're not the best at shooting, neither are they the best in melee but they're decent at both which allows them to fill whichever role you need at the time.
>>
>>55002434
Only helpful explanation, thanks.
>>
>>55002489
Wow, fuck you too.
>>
>>55002440

Which is sad. Would love to see others get spotlighted. Are the authors contracted to give stormcast 50% of the focus?

It's like asking why 40k fiction is so marine focused. It's almost as though some factions make up the majority of their sales.

I like the models and concepts (the Tzeentch ones in particular, a Lord of Change was one of the first models I saw and got for myself back in the late 80s, I wish I had that hunk of metal still), and the playstyle looks potentially fun. What other reasons do you need to like a faction? You can still even do Your Dudes with Heralds and Daemon Princes.

>>55002471
Sounds good; I've never had cause to use a giant model like that before but this seems like as good a time as any to consider one
>>
>>55002513
I don't like any faction-biased damage like that.
>>
>>55002517
Gasp! You take your implications and shove them up your bumhole, mister!
>>
>>55002436
They're just not OP anymore. I'd say champion with rifle, 2 riflemen, cannon and fumigator are best mix for 5 dude unit.
>>
>>55002532
>You can still even do Your Dudes with Heralds and Daemon Princes
Yeah, this is what I'm arguing in support of. I'm saying just pure daemons though is kinda shallow and boring. It's why pure daemons end up as a horde army, 'cause you have one troop choice and you just spam that.
>>
>>55002506
Nah I think its just GW's angle. They were kind of left in a brutal tarpit come Jack Kirby (old CEO) who left the new CEO with AoS and a pretty dire financial situation.

So the natural reaction is to promote the Stormcast than try to put them under the bus. I think if the reception still comes through as lukewarm but AoS keeps selling reasonably, they may gradually look to give highlights to them outside it.

I would be much happier with Stormcast if their proportions were more human, like the female one. At least then they'd look like divine warriors without the association to the Space Marines.

Or even switch the heads to more knightly ones.
>>
>>55002591
GW should just make a kit with a bunch of alternative helmets for the Stormcast.
>>
>>55002660
You tell them that, its probably the best and easiest idea to get some goodwill for Stormies. Those flat faces just don't them any favours.
>>
>>55002436
I like having a second Arkanaut Company with their own Frigate. They support each other well and make for a nice foundation of an army.
Grundstock Gunhaulers are way overcosted, avoid them. Endrinmasters are very situational, take them or leave them.

Thunderers will need testing, I can't say anything for sure as of yet, but regular rifles don't look horrible.
>>
>>55002591
I just wish they'd redo the whole backstory of AoS. Shorten the timespans in which stuff happened and then get into some more details what the decendants of each faction has been doing until chaos showed up again.
Like:
~1 year after the collaps, the mortals realms came into existance, people started appearing here and there.
~10 years after the collaps, Sigmar was found by dracothion, traveled the worlds
~50 years after the collaps, Archaon had amassed enough followers to start his offensive, Sigmar had to withdraw.
~100 years after the collaps Sigmar came back with the Stormcast to kick chaos butts.
>>
>>55002591
I've seen srtormcast with Bret helmets, they have potential but I have yet to see someone paint them well without going full bret retard
>>
>>55002674
The biggest problems with the faces is that they look like shit in polished gold and GW insisting on always presenting them with that as as the default paintjob option.
>>
>>55002725
Regular rifles are surprisingly underrated
>>
>>55002737
That's very stupid. The whole point of the backstory is that it had been AGES. If the mystical Age of the Gods happened a couple of weeks ago it looses a good deal of impact if a significant part of the populance can still remember it.
>>
>>55002764
I never understood the hate 18", good to-hit, rend and attack rate. They're far better than for example the garbage decksweeper, and you can khem them up and it gives you very good ROF.
>>
>>55002737
>several ages happen in the span of a century
>civilisations just appear out of thin air
>cultures just happen
>the gargantuan realms are populated in weeks
>huge empires rise and fall over a weekend
Yes, that's really sensible. Anything else you'd like to pitch, anon?
>>
>>55002781
I know, and if you only use the current models it doesn't bother me at all.
But when looking at free guild and like clan skryre, These people are stuck at the same tech level for millenia. Glottkin and other named characters have been around for millenia and that just feels super weird to me.
Especially considering there is so little fluff outside of Stormcasts fighting here, Stormcasts fighting there.
>>
>>55002811
They weren't mortars and they weren't cannons; that's the only thing that mattered.
>>
>>55002829
>>55002781
To be fair its a pretty tight spot for anyone. As much issues as the AoS fluff has (which is a metric ton), I still admire the authors for even being able to come up with *something* pseudo coherent.
>>
>>55002747
>>55002751
I think the issue is the brand image. The Stormcast are too heavily associated with Space Marines. Though it doesn't take a genius that it was intentional.

>Kirby: We are in the Red, we need to sell more Marines!!!!!!!
>kills Fantasy for more MAHREENS

All they need is even a 5% toning down on the BIG HUGE proportions and get that helmet a slight rejig and they're golden.
>>
>>55002737
Naa, then we miss out on all the cool background stuff like the Titan nations.
>>
>>55002829
I may have set the timeline too tight there, but I hope you get what I'm getting at.
They just throw a million years here and there without putting anything in those years aside from stuff happened but chaos ruined it right after.
>>
>>55002886
Stormcasts have better fluff than SM's desu
>>
So... What's the appeal for Skaven? Is it because they're giant rat furries?
>>
>>55002919
Well on paper and to a certain degree sure. I meant more the visuals. No more different than if I were to release a Fat Italian Plumber who fights turtles today. There is no way that isn't getting associated with Mario.

Same with Stormcast and Marines, purely by visuals they're tacked on to Marines which is almost definitely not a coincedence.
>>
>>55002737
look at this bitch nigga that dont understand the point of high fantasy
>>
>>55002935
GW should have made them more barbarian honestly, like big plate armoured noble !chaos warriors. Sigmar was a barbarian after all.
>>
>>55002894
I don't see how that's really any issue. Most fantasy settings have thousands of years of history where we know dick-all about what happened, this is just the same.
>>
>>55002956
Sigmar isn't a barbarian any more, why would his chosen warriors look like his enemies' troops? If anything, I could understand if they looked more like one of the more developed civilisations, i.e. Roman legionaries or Greek hoplites
>>
>>55002956
>Sigmar was a barbarian after all.
That was a long ass time ago

Sigmar has been in the aspect of god-king for a long time
>>
>>55002920
They are the worst pieces of humanity cranked up to 11.
They're lying, thiefing, backstabbing bastards who only care for themselves. They're mad scientists, evil warlocks and cruel overlords. They fuck each other up as much as they fuck up everyone else, if not more. But that's okay since there's like a gazillion of them.
They use twisted magic, are addicted to magical space coke and create horrible monsters and gadgets that the 40k orks would be proud of.
Also they talk funny.
>>
If you give your army a theme/song that fits them, what would it be? For me I would have this as my theme song for my Nurgle army, mainly due to the bells and such.

Lyrics match the Stormcast perfectly, just replace Morgoth with Archaon.
>>
>>55002956
That could have worked actually. Noble or "Viking" barbarians in the more cleaner sense vs the plate armoured nutjobs of Chaos.

But again, GW, IF IT AINT MUHREENS IT AINT €€€

But I have settled on the Stormcasts somewhat, but I think what gets the stick up peoples asses is that the direction GW was taking with them is so clear and dry.
>>
>>55003106
The first stanzas anyway.
>>
Tell us about your army, who are they, what have they done, who leads them, etc
>>
>>55003148
Or every one except the one about killing their kin.
>>
>>55003120
Yeah.
I like the fluff. I like that they loose themselves each time they die.
At some point GW is going to release a unit of STORMCAST DEPRIVED which are those stormcasts who have been reforged too many times and are now soulless automatons.
>>
I never really delved much into WHFB when I was still in high school like 15 years ago (thousands of $ into 40k though), and now I see AOS might be slightly cheaper and simpler to get into... however now I'm older and no longer care to go to comics/games stores around town to play.

Has anyone given AOS a try solo? Like, building armies out for two sides and playing both sides as if you were attempting to win?

When I was a kid I would make skirmish-sized scenarios out of Fantasy, with the Skull Pass starter set for example I broke the unit rules and had the Dwarf Thane with a bunch of random bodyguards acting all as independent characters, then set an ambush with the gobbos where reinforcements would come in every second turn and I had to try make the Dwarves survive. So, maybe something like that? Obviously now there are proper skirmish rules around and much more material for scenarios, battleplans and the like.

Otherwise just try get a friend or two into it and play at home.
>>
>>55003218
Get Thunder and Blood, give it a shot, I guess?
>>
>>55003171
I hope so. Just like a lot of the 40k novels, I actually never liked any of their BL stories focused on the Space Marines (sans Nightbringer). I LOVED Last Chancers though and had a real soft spot for the Imperial Guard. Focus on the main uber characters can get stale.
>>
>>55003218
Prolly best way to do it would be to write order cards and draw randomly for both/one side?
>>
>>55003171
But they don't turn automaton, they turn "something both more and less than human". So far we've only had Gardus and Thostos to go by, and both seem to just get more...elementaly. Thostos becomes more agressive, while Gardus has lucio's healing aura on. I imagine eventually they'll be like seraphon- pure azyr creatures.
>>
>>55003158
The Ashwing Shrine of Arta Estagalon:

>Existing to guard the Realmgate bridging the Realm of Fire in the Grey Rifts, and the Realm of Metal in the great stormy lands of the Tumult, the fortress is home to a small clade of Swifthawk Agents led by Mor Dagnir Arenthidai, at the council of his Arch Mage attendent.

>The Shrine was founded during an expedition to reclaim the gate from the Great Chaos Wyrm Tharapsa, who had rested so long at the mouth of where the Tumult met the Rifts that his scales became armoured in an ashen metal. The Clade battled the huge beast for days, who could do nothing as their arrows and spears simply bounced off the Monster's protection. During another instance of withdrawal, the Aelf who would become Mor Dagnir Arenthidai stumbled on the broken eggs of Galrama, a Gryphon of Chamon who's very feathers had become naturally metallic like the scales of Tharapsa. Successful in bonding with the gryphon, the aelf attempted to attack the wyrm in the only place it could, leaping into it's raging maw and being swallowed hole.

>For two more days the Clade battled Tharapsa, their leader falling in the process and once again being sent to rout, until the beast strangely collapsed dead, a burnt and injured Aelf walking out from between it's teeth.

>His sword recovered and empowered from the heart of the serpent, and a stern iron mask fitted over his badly burnt face, the Aelf was elevated to the new position of High Warden and took the name Mor Dagnir Arenthidai, gathering the survivors of the battle, who had already begun to carve and draw depictions of the beast's fall into their banners and shields, he swore to defend the gate to the last with his vengeful Gryphon companion at his side.

Each unit in the army has a unique name and history too.
>>
>>55003319

Randomized cards for orders might be okay but would be very limited, especially with no knowledge of the game going in. Another problem I worry about is that typical "one person playing two roles" problem... lets say I have someone hidden in some terrain somewhere... I have to purposefully play the other side as if I dont know that's there.

But I do know it's there. And if I head for it, I might consider it cheating. If I don't head for it, I might consider it cheating as the other side gets to hide for free. :(

Copied from my first bit of unedited lore attempt:

Jaq’ornar has existed for untold millennia, but in that time he has had one concern on his mind: the loss of the World-That-Was. Jaq’ornar believes that the Dark Gods won only because of the lack of slann intervention, not merely in military engagements, but in the facets of normal mortal life. Because of this, Jaq’ornar has taken an active approach to the fight against Chaos. He is more lucid than other Starmasters, and willing to speak directly with mortals. For this, the others of his kind see him as an outlier, and have branded him the Errant Starmaster.
Though, like all Slann, Jaq’ornar has the ability to call upon any of the seraphon in his moments of action, he does have his favored forces. The forces themselves, however, are split amongst themselves as to whether or not Jaq’ornar’s particular take on the Great Game is the right one to have.
His forces manifest themselves with ample warning. Dark, roving clouds, smeared with blots of pinkish gas and motes of twinkling starlight roll onto battlefields. It isn't until lightning from within forms the silhouettes of the warriors that the violence actually begins. It is said that this time is meant for penance, or time meant for the adherents of the Dark Gods to contemplate their fate.

Cant you need to log in using that Total War access thing, in another thread someone screenshotted it.

Its a shortstory about a skink finding out about the twint ailed comet stirring shit up, as to which the other skinks want to lynch him because hes "disconcordant" with the great plan, he then bails with the help of his loveable kroxigor buddy (who talks to him chewbacca style), they then trekk to Hexoatl where Mazdamundi tells him he did good but also chides him for beeing bad at protocoll.

its a nice view of the lizardmen, they are very orderly and focused on the great plan but at the same time still have their own personalities and whatnot.

It also features kroxigors splashing about in the water

>I am the River.
>O lord of the forest, what hath fate wrought for you?
>Betrayed by those who came to worship you falsely. They struck you down.
>They cast you into my waters in tribute to their dark gods.
>And the same they did to your followers, your warriors, your children. Their song is silenced.
>And they were not sated, still more die, still more are sacrificed on my banks.
>I am suffused with their blood. I am drowning in it. How I loathe its bitterness.
>What would you offer in exchange for vengeance?
>To walk and war again, what would you give?
>Anything?
>Everything?
>Then walk again, lord of the forest, let my waters lift you up, and not drag you down.
>Find the worshipers of the Blood God, and any others who stand between us.
>Cut them down, make them fear, make them cry for mercy, and suffer endlessly.
>And let the River walk with you, that we may both be drunk with their misery.

Still a rough idea, but I'm rather fond of the idea of edgy Sylvaneth.

Okay so, lets say I want to buy Age of Sigmar to start playing.

I'm looking at the Spire of Dawn box, does that come with the game rules/some dice/ruler? I pretty much just want to play Skaven...

I'm used to the way 40k had stuff setup. Are there "codexes" for these armies? How many points does the Spire of Dawn box get me for one of the armies (Skaven). How many points do I need for a typical battle?

I'm a bit confused on their website. Like there's a Starter Collection, a Starter Set Starter Collection, Start Collecting sets.... Starter Set, Easy to Build. I cant find codexes, I cant find army lists so I'm not sure what to buy.

If I just grab the Spire of Dawn boxed set, will that at least give me a capable army to play with? Will I need to buy another army boxed set? I know the starting sets in 40k used to be terrible and the armies they gave you were nothing
>>
>>55006973
by separate lines:

cool

yes

not yet, just get the general's handbook 2017 when it comes out. its the only essential book you will need for that box set

the GHB2017 will help give you guidelines for what you will need to build for a legal list, but all the warscrolls (aos equivalent of data slates) for everything is free. just go to the listing on the GW website and you can download the warscroll right there. But also the warscrolls for the spire of dawn box are available right in the box. Start collecting and starter sets are pretty much just good deals for the contents. so if you want to expand your army or even start a new one, the start collectings are a great way to do that.

it might not be enough for something like a 1000 point skaven army, so you will probably need to expand on that, but its good if you just do open play, which is the exact same thing as it is in 40k right now.
>>
>>55006973
>I'm looking at the Spire of Dawn box, does that come with the game rules/some dice/ruler? I pretty much just want to play Skaven...
The base rules are free online, but the boxset has a hard copy with them.
It will not however, have the contents of the generals handbook (so, points, competitive rules, allegiance abilities etc), so you will want to get that as well.

>I'm used to the way 40k had stuff setup. Are there "codexes" for these armies? How many points does the Spire of Dawn box get me for one of the armies (Skaven). How many points do I need for a typical battle?
There are, they are called "battletomes", although right now not many armies have one yet. The points and allegiance abilities you will need will be in the Generals Handbook 2017 which is up for pre-order right now. I am not sure how many points you get in the box, but games are typically played at 1000 or 2000 points.

>I'm a bit confused on their website. Like there's a Starter Collection, a Starter Set Starter Collection, Start Collecting sets.... Starter Set, Easy to Build. I cant find codexes, I cant find army lists so I'm not sure what to buy.
Get Started box sets are ways of starting an army at discount.
Starter Boxes are well, a box that have two armies as well as some rules and dice.
Battletomes are the AoS version of codex, but as I said, not every army has one. Skaven do not have one yet.

>If I just grab the Spire of Dawn boxed set, will that at least give me a capable army to play with? Will I need to buy another army boxed set? I know the starting sets in 40k used to be terrible and the armies they gave you were nothing
It will not be all that capable, no. You will need to add to it.
>>
>>55006973
basic rules are all free

some factions have codex like books but most do not. The faction books are not 100% needed in all cases.

The official mobile app has the rules for every unit for free, and the official list builder has points values

The Kingdom of Montressor once stood on the flanks of the Spinemounts, a flourishing jewel of Shyish before the coming of Chaos. Even its strong walls and legions of soldiers could not halt Archaons rampaging hordes however, and Montressor soon fell to blade and fire. Hundreds of years later, Montressor stands once again under the banners of its High King, but no longer does trade flourish, or the babble of voices ring from the marketplaces. Now there are only old bones left. And the High King wields his warriors as skillfully as he did all those years ago. Risen from his grave with the help of his court necromancer Kadon, the King rebuilt his city.

The brass forges of khorne are never silent, for they must work day and night to keep the endless daemon hordes equipped, yet those born of khorne are filled with a fierce need for battle
Calamon was once a herald tasked with overseeing the forges, but he longed for slaughter. So he hatched a plan, he sent defective weapons from a forge to a great daemon prince. Predictably, the daemon prince was slain on the field of battle, betrayed by his equipment. A bloodthirster descended upon the forges with wrath yet Calamon argued that his weapons could not be trusted without being tested. Agreeing, Calamon's host are now forced to test each batch of weapons on the peoples of the realms, a blood slick blade being all the proof khorne needs of it's quality

These are the three, you might have seen the swordmaster on this thread before, not with the base though. I'm still kind of unsure if the white makes the elves look too generic or not compared to the backstory.

I've also taken the mask off now to file it down a bit, since it's obviously sticking out too much. The arch mage looks cool on the horse though, the cape looks great when mounted, could turn that magic around him into magic around the horse too.

It’s also worth noting that this spell can be used to bring ANYTHING with the Chaos and Monster keywords onto the board… including Archaon himself. There’s something incredibly appealing (if unlikely) to me about the Grand Marshal of the Apocalypse finding his very essence torn through the Mortal Realms to find himself in an unfamiliar scene:

“WHO DARES TO SUMMON ME?” rumbles Archaon, with a voice like a sacrificial axe being ground against a whetstone, full of dark and thunderous promise.

“Baaaaaaaa”, brays a Bray-Shaman, pointing an accusatory finger at a hapless looking group of grots. “Make green-skins dead. I compel ye. Baaaaa!”

was devastated when they killed the old world, I thought I would never recover. But with this realization life has returned to my once shriveled neurons.

I have not had the energy to write this until now, and I write this in hope that I can cure others as well.

The old world is gone never to return, and its replaced by Age of Sigmar. My realization is this: One day Age of Sigmar will die as well, one day GW will die. The company I used to love, now I only dream of its demise, for none of what made it what it was is left. It is like a person with Alzheimers, it has the appearance of what you love, but on the inside there is nothing left of that. GW is sick, it has succumbed to the ailment of foul greed, and the only cure is death. That is the only way the IPs that is captive there can be free. Because it is not warhammer that is sick, it is not space marines or chaos, it is GW, a once greatly respected oasis of inspiration, now reduced to a putrid vulture brooding on top of all the IPs that was created in its early years, greedy eyes constantly searching for new ideas to lock away in its nest.

Just knowing that GW will die soothes my mind like nothing has ever done before. And that day when Age of Sigmar is destroyed by its infantile creators, i will savour its blood right from the jugular. That an abomination lives can not be prevented, but we can cherish that abominations have ends, and their ends are actually sweet. Every day up until that day will be a build up that makes that day so much better. And those who find relief in Age of Sigmar, I will savour their despair as well, for they have nothing else. They have already been fed by the sadness of those who was deeply involved with the old world, and in their bliss never realized their beloved Age of Sigmar will one day also meet a grizzly end. But we can realize this today and we can even savour just the thought that it will happen one day.

That's pretty handy. Using this, it looks like the Spire of Dawn box is around 750 points for the Skaven and 820 points for the Swifthawk/Eldritch Council mix. That seems pretty close to the 1000 number tossed around for a small Open play, so I'm quite pleased with how much you get in there. And that's not even abusing equipment/spells for more points (if that's a thing in AoS).

I think I may buy this boxed set and head up to my LFGS

For the warscrolls for the deathrattle, just go to the GW website, get into the deathrattle tab, and look at the warscrolls for each unit.

That's good to hear. I am glad most of the forums have wizened up to it. Some will give them a containtment board where they are free to discuss whatever, and trolling them is bannable.

One though they have a containment board where people can go to talk about it, or complain/bitch about it, but you have to indicate in your thread title whether the thread is pro or anti AoS. And so it's enter on your own accord. Like if you go into a pro-thread, don't get mad if you get banned for trolling the posters, and same for the anti-threads.

It's interesting how much this game really upset and polarized all the communities. That can be a good thing in a lot of ways, it can also be a bad thing, depending on how you look at it.

Neither do I. Especially when there's not much reason for it, like with Seraphon and Daemons. It discourages armies from going against each other, at least when it's army-wide.

In 40k, it's particularly bad with Grey Knights and Daemons. Although it fits the lore, Grey Knights, especially in 8th, are so hilariously good at killing Daemons, that no Daemons player will ever go against a Grey Knights player willingly. Which, ironically, means that Grey Knights will not be spending much time fighting the thing they're created to defeat.

Hey guys, Skaven player here. I want to make up some movement trays but not sure if I should worry about making it a skirmish tray or a regular one. The bottom line is I want to be able to make smart formations out of my unit but don't want to make it so big (to include potential formations such as spearhead and line) that it's ridiculous in size. Anyone have a similar problem and/or can offer insight?
