>still play Star Trek CCG occasionally
>decide to buy some boosters since lol cheap
>get a box of AU boosters for like $12
>open booster pack right at the top of the box
>Future Enterprise
>Ultra-Rare card
>the one everyone lusted over when I was younger
>now in my hot little hands

Anyone have similar luck with getting insanely rare cards?

what game purpose does the holodeck serve?
>>
>>54995474

If I remember correctly, there was various cards that could be played or obstacles that could sometimes be solved with keyword things, so I'm assuming that is one.

It allows holographic personnel and equipment to be used aboard the ship. This obviously helps with dilemmas that require holograms to solve (dilemmas are seeded below missions and must be defeated before the mission rewards can be claimed, which is how you win the game normally), but these also have some qualities of their own; holographic personnel can't be killed in personal combat (they can be deactivated, but return next turn), and only die if specifically deleted or the ship is destroyed while linked to it. Note that holograms can't kill without another card (like Disable Safety Protocols), making them only stun opponents in personal combat.

>like Star Trek
>like anime
>like all sorts of things
>never get a game that doesn't use recycles art, or that is terrible

Anyway how is this game? You know what would be cool? A new Star Trek card game. Set it in TOS with original art and characters, good mechanics around ship building and missions. Release comics or shit to support it. And while I'm dreaming of pixies and candy, rarity is only bling and all the cards are easy to obtain.

Been thinking of using eBay or Amazon to grab all the Magi Nation decks I missed out on. I never knew before that ice and swamp and desert factions existed.

1st Edition Star Trek CCG is pretty good. Crazy complicated with a ton of errata, but good.

I recently built a low-end Romulan deck which uses a shabby common-filled Q-Continuum side deck for maximum shenanigans. Doesn't really stop the opponent, but slows down and annoys them to the point where you either solve enough missions to win, or they forfeit in disgust.

Opening stacks upon stacks of booster packs is a guilty pleasure akin to gambling, except instead of funding the casino or lottery system, you're actually getting useful stuff. Especially since there's guaranteed 3 uncommons and 1 rare per pack.

Also get to vicariously relive my childhood, that fresh card smell, the giddiness.

All for under $12.

>read op
>reminds me of Star Wars by the same company
>loved that shit
>used to play it during lunch time and in daycare
>Think, fuck yea, i'll buy the shit outta some boxes if they are anywhere near similarly priced
>lolnope
>100+, some significantly higher
Sometimes its a bad thing to love a more popular, but also dead game.

I could never get a game of this going. I still have a big Imperial deck and a smaller Rebel one.

Star Trek, I'm lucky that I have someone to play against, skilled or not; my fuck-you-Q deck is deliberately designed to fuck with their practice of beaming 10+ people down in an Away Team to attempt missions.

I'm sure the decks we played were fucking awful, but the game was enjoyable, the cards were interesting, and, as a kid, I didn't care about winning or losing anyway.

Particularly, i remember we mostly used Hoth cards, cause that was the set box we got, and the rest were boosters.

I was lucky though, i went to a daycare for years, and we had one cool guy that worked there. Would help us figure out the rules for the various games we'd bring in, and always had his SNES on station for us.

I too once played that game. Somewhere I have the Death Star and the three(?) other cards needed to fire the laser. I managed to do it once, it was fucking glorious.

Everyone I've brought it up with says they hate the force pile mana/deploy mechanic. I honestly get confused by it regularly too. STCCG is much easier; one card down per turn unless you have a card that clearly lays out how you can play more per turn.

Also motherfucking JAMES T KIRK.

>may initiate battle against non-Fed (important because usually Fed can't initiate battle, only counterattack)
>stuns opponent in personnel battle
>may "stop" one female present per turn

I think the fact that locations were lands, but also where things happen, was a big deal for us. We had tried a number of games, and MTG was our standard, mostly playing with Portal, so having lands that mattered more was cool.
>>
>>54999124

I remember laying out new locations mid-play meant major spaceline disruption and frustrating pauses.
>>
>>54999292
I honestly don't remember it causing any headaches, but its been well over a decade, so i can't be sure.
>>
>>54999409

I remember people playing by the letter of the rules, so a lot of stuff that would've been handwaved away by friends/kids (daycare etc) ended up being played strictly.

Also limited tabletop space, which meant moving all the cards around was horrible and unexpected. At least with STCCG the spaceline is fully built at the beginning and you know how big it's gonna be.
