90% of players play marines. New edition came out. Old players can just use their existing marines models.

So how can GW make a profit?

Make a new Marines faction that you can't just paint up your existing models to be and make it more powerful than original marines.

I'd love to see an organized push back from the players with everyone just using old marines models and Primaris rules.

The gap between space marines and primaris isn't all that big, either in lore or on tabletop.

The novel dark imperium handled it well. Showing regular marines have more experience and teamwork ability that makes them often more effective.

I just wanted lore wise correctly sized marines, and as I never bought any spess muhrine models now I will only buy primaris marines and if needed play them as normal marines

Primarines are actually pretty awful, I don't know what they do that can't be done more efficiently than regular marines.

This is all for now though as we gradually shift to the new stuff. I predicted 8th will have them suck ass, 9th they will eek out some advantage and 10th regular marines won't see any play at all or Primarines will just replace them in name and function (essentially losing their unique statline and being the new standard).

Primaris aren't good, nigger. Neither are regular marines, but Primaris are even less good. They suffer even worse from the typical Space Marine condition of being expensive elites that are good at nothing in the Hordy Hordes Edition of small units getting fucked by Morale

Will never happen.
Space Marine players are usually newcomers/kids/fanboys anyway. Games Workshop could release a new codex with the pages kept together by literal shit and they'd still make more of a profit than anything else that year.

Stormcast players, who are almost universally coming from 40k, are pretty much the only people keeping AoS from being taken out back and shot.

Admech player here, I don't really mind who I'm shooting at honestly although I prefer murderizing Marines of some kind just for the glorious salt. We get completely crapped on in lore though, since Kelly hates us and all the other writers seem to see us as a convenient punching bag for causing the LSMs some problems. Eye of Medusa is a lot better though, Skitarii do almost all of the work and they're seen tearing Iron Hands apart with superior analytics and lots and lots of stabby Sicarians.

Taking apart Marines on the tabletop is great fun, though, since I basically can't lose fluffwise. I kill Guilliman and his Terminator and Custodes escort and that's a vast and pretty much irreplacable loss for the Imperium, whereas the only thing worth a damn in my army is the two Kastelans and they're still around in the millions. He can table me six or seven times and still not do more than dent a Forge World's reserves, while I've probably knocked a couple of percentage points off the number of Marines in the entire setting at this point.
