Armor is mobile, you fucking dolt. If mobility was the MOST IMPORTANT THING EVER then modern soldiers wouldn't carry their gear, which, by the way, is just as heavy as medieval armor, and they would go into enemy territory with just their guns.
Not only that, bikini armor is oft accompanied by high heels, which seems to run counter to "mobility is key" argument.
Also people started wearing clothes because of the invention of guns. You might also remember, the same time soldiers started wearing clothes, they also stood in straight lines and shot at each other. Not exactly highly mobile tactics.
>>54957301
>>54960016
Got one!
>>54960016
"with just their guns..." But they don't, because ~100 lbs isn't enough to slow soldiers down significantly. On top of that, armor is equally distributed across a medieval soldier's body (and weighs a lot less if you wear lighter armor) so it's even more mobile.
>>54957301
Bikini armor looks dumb

>>54957433

You were so close
>>54961023
...why?
>>54960016
Anon, mobility IS the most important thing ever.
Knights (who were on the lower end of the numerical side, remember) typically used only most of their armor if they were running, by foot, into combat. The full plate you see in media was usually used on horseback. See: gendarmes, early cuirassiers. A complete set of combat full plate weighed less than 50 pounds, with jousting plate being far heavier to withstand lance blows. Jousting armor was used in tournaments, NOT on the battlefield.
Modern soldiers carry 70+ pounds of gear, regularly. This will slow down your averave footsoldier, but we can do that now because we have vehicles. Horses quickly tire and need food. That horse running for days you see in movies? They can't actually do that. Meanwhile, a combat transport vehicle can move for days at a time, and far faster than a horse, as long as it has fuel. Huge, ferociously armed and armored battle tanks of World War 2 consistantly lost to lighter, faster tanks who could actually get where they needed, and quickly. Tanks nowadays have a massive focus on not only being armored enough, but also being FAST enough.
tl;dr: Read more history. "Quickness is the essence of war." - Sun Tzu
>>54961487
I'll clarify; I'm not suggesting knights should always wear full armor, just that the mobility detriment isn't enough to justify forgoing armor in combat. If you insist on wearing armor 24/7 and also being mobile, I suggest Gambeson, not bikini plate. Armor is quite useful, in that it lets you get hit by swords and not die. Not dying, by the way, is actually the most important thing ever.

>he thinks light infantry carry less gear
You're not thinking military, my dude. They're light in a tactical sense because they can't bring as much firepower to a fight. They have to carry everything on their back, they don't get vehicles to do it. Which now days is less relevant due to the proliferation of mechanized transport. Even a basic "straight leg" infantry unit will have at minimum large trucks to carry them over significant distances/carry supplies. If you're in the US military, you're guaranteed to have access to more than that. But yes, they're considered light because all their gear needs to be man-portable. Which puts the limit at .50s, 81mm mortars, some TOW systems, and various other shoulder fired rockets and missiles.
>>54998049
Well, light is more about training.
Everyone drives vehicles(because why wouldn't you, they're a huge force projection tool), but light learn to operate without them.
And it's also about combat doctrine. In a mechanized unit, your squad tactics operate with the vehicle in mind. A Stryker unit, for example, has two extra guys to drive and run the gun, for example, and the squad learns to coordinate with the vehicle to provide fire support and overwatch during a mission. Light units, on the other hand, learn to operate without, which has it's advantages and disadvantages.
It's the same sort of issue that prompts people to claim that Airborne units are going to disappear. Just because the last two wars we've been in didn't have any major use for airborne operations doesn't mean the doctrine is obsolete.

It's stale internet drama. The short version is, there was a webcomic which was originally humorous but decided to do a dramatic arc, and some people were so offended by it that they decided to constantly remind each other of it with vague references so that none of them would ever stop being offended. They've been at it for several years now.
Honestly, you're not missing anything. Their "jokes" have pretty much nothing to do with the thing that offended them. But then again, neither does their outrage.
>>55000953
Nobody is offended by Loss. It's a meme because of how laughably hamfisted it was, how much the author sucked his own dick about how mature he was, and how easy it was to mock.
