Ind has so little written about it that it makes Cathay look like Elder Scrolls lore. I think the best anyone could do with it right now is 'it's like historical India but there's also beastmen,' which is cool if you like historical India but also rather vague and uninteresting if there's nothing more to that. At least from the bits of fluff presented in some books, you could make an army out of Cathay that wasn't just 'China but fantasy.'

They're mentioned in the Chaos Dwarf section of Tamurkhan. Unless they plan to kill them or immediately work them to death, they execute any they take prisoner, because every other time that they haven't, the prisoners turn out to be filled with spies, saboteurs, and sometimes deliberately infect with diseases.

The Spine of Sotek is the name of the mountain range, I know that much. And it's obviously a dwarf faction, since the banner is dwarven - there's a slight chance it might be a standin for another faction, but I don't see why.

Otherwise all I can do is guess - I know there was a Dwarf Engineer named Sven Hasselfriesian in older lore that went to Lustria, so maybe this is based around that.

Dwarves don't form dedicated bond pairs, a dwarf wife will be 'married' to several dwarves iirc, and children are raised in communal creches run by the women.

So not really.

What goes into the Book of Grudges exactly? Slights like oath-breaking, unprovoked attacks or the desecration of ancestor tombs are obvious but what about cases like a dwarf army being defeated in battle during a war and a general killed in combat? Does that still count as a wrong to be avenged or is some sort of distinction made?

>>
>>54952237
>What goes into the Book of Grudges exactly?
Short answer: everything
Longer answer: No, a defeat does usually not go into the book, as long as the war is "proper" in some way, like the enemy declares war and not just attacks for no good reason at all.
>>
>>54952318
>Ind
>Tiger cavalry
Spare me.

In writing an army list, I think you have to detail the culture and geography of the faction first, otherwise you're just left with generic units based on history and mythology.

There's no White Lions without Chrace and no Questing Knights without the Grail.
>>
>>54952451
>generic units based on history and mythology

this is literally what WHFB is. Or did you forget Kislev bear cavalry and araby genies being canon
>>
>>54952451
>otherwise you're just left with generic units based on history and mythology
Like so many other armies? We barely have any fluff about Ind, so on what should one base its army list if not the history and myhtology of that place?
>>
>>54952464
>Kislev bear cavalry
One off-hand mention in an 8th edition book as far as I can tell and not in any of the previous books for Warhammer, Warmaster or WFRP.

Fuck Bear Cavalry.
>>
>>54952529
WFRP holds that Boris was the first in a while close enough to a bear to ride one, though the Cult of Ursun and even regular soldiers do train them for fighting.
>>
>>54952451
nearly every regular unit has a lot of geographical and historical flavour from the real world or it's myths.
If you want to, I would rather remove the cavalry archers and replace them with more exotic warriors like urumi bearers.
Historically india was a pretty bad place for horse archery because of it's humid weather that decomposed compound bows.

Or how about something more like friendly vampires? It would go well with the mess that is ind which has a lot less von carstein shittery and maybe less of an aversion to the undead.
>>
>>54952566
More solid than you'd think. Cathayan vampires was one of the core ideas for a new vampire bloodline - moving it to Ind nstead has a nicer feel to it, especially given Cathays tie to Tzeentch.

Unmounted fighting bears are a different matter. They were in Warmaster, Mordheim and WFRP.
>>
>>54952615
The fact that Boris tamed and rode Urskin was considered remarkable and he was made the high priest of Ursun for it.

And the model came out just before the Storm of Chaos, so it was a mid-2000s model.

>worshiped death, built huge tombs, stone sphinxes and giants
>constantly seek immortality
>guy named Nagash kills brother and subjugates throne

>other kings rebel and defeat him, queen Neferata finds his books and copies his elixir of immortality becoming first vampire
>Nagash comes back and rises every dead in Nehekhara, curses all water with deadly poison
>king Alcadizaar manages to kill him using skaven warpsword and goes mad after knowing he is last alive man in country

>>
>>54953283
Do the tomb kings are dark elves? Or is that unrelated? Did they take the immortality potion, die, and just come back as skeletons? Had it always been run by skeletons since they killed nagash? Did they all wake up the same time as nagash?
>>
>>54953708
Nagash bind undead to his will, Tomb Kings appeared only after he died, it was ruled by them ever since.
>>
>>54952950
Alright check this shizzle

>long ago - after the sundering of elf kind and the War of Vengeance - in a distant land - the northeast of Warhammer's Africa - there was a great civilization
>Called Nehekhara, these guys were the shit, and performed feats of engineering, science, alchemy, art, and culture not all of which have been matched since
>there was only one problem: all men die
>enter Settra, the greatest king Nehekhara ever had, possibly the greatest human king ever, certainly the peer of such later figures as Sigmar or Gilles Le Breton
>in life, Settra united the disparate Nehekharan kingdoms, crushed his enemies, and expanded his borders to the Borderlands, Tilea, Bretonnia, and parts of what would become the Empire
>Settra was getting old, though
>galley by the inevitability of death, he took the members of the Nehekharan priesthood he felt could get the job done and charged them with finding a way to abolish death itself, and so the Mortuary Cult was born
>the Cult made great strides in extending life in Settra's lifetime, but nonetheless he died; he was prepared in such a fashion that, when the time came, he could be restored to life
>things continued this way for a while
>Nehekhara fractured again, the Cult thrived, kings were preserved, and the civilization declined
>men became more concerned with death than life
>still, none dared to build a tomb greater than Settra's...yet
>enter Nagash, a member of the Mortuary Cult, and eventually its head priest
>Nagash was a match for Settra in will, vision, and thirst for dominion...but Nagash was as blackhearted as a man could be
>Nagash would have the good fortune of capturing some druchii Magister
>using torture and dialogue, he prided the secrets of Dark Magic from them, then buried them alive
>Nagash was not content to simply ape someone else's accomplishments
>combining what he divined of Dark Magic with his knowledge from the Cult, he created a unique and hideous magic, Necromancy
>>
>>54946776
>>54946555
I'm talking about in Warhammer. I just used the word for convenience
>>
>>54954481
>using this, he produced his ironically named elixir of life, which finally conquered death, after a fashion
>from his black pyramid, the only thing built in Nehekhara that dared surmount Nagash's tomb, he set out to conquer everyone and everything
>long story short, he lost and was thought destroyed
>Nehekhara returned to normal, not knowing Nagash had endured and was preparing the world's largest chimpout in retaliation
>a spoiled, bored noblewomen in the kingdom of Lahmia, incensed at the restrictions that kept her from the Cult, set out to study her own way of conquering death
>she used a lieutenant of Nagash, who directed the creation of the second elixir of life to produce the first vampires
>Neferata then ruled Lahmia in a debauched bloodbath of orgies and feeding, which eventually united the other kingdoms against her
>BTFO, she and the other vampires scattered
>bad news, though, Nagash was back...and looking for employees
>the vampires were forced into serving him using a cursed magic item given to one of their number, Vashhanesh, and Nagash used poison, necromancy, and his knowledge of Mortuary Cult rites to kill Nehekhara ,reduce the land to a sterile desert, and raise every dead king, noble, soldier, and peasant as a slave
>Nagash was only undone when the skaven, fearing his runaway success with their help, armed a prisoner of his with a weapon designed to actually destroy him
>it worked, sort of
>the resurrected kings, all claiming the same turf, fell to dighting, while the Mortuary Cult worked to fix this shit
>by now they had found their own immortality, chaining their spirits to bodies that could not die, becoming liches
>still, even this established success was not the same as resurrecting the dead for true or undoing Nagash's curses
>speaking of, he's back, but a bit more cautious, though it doesn't help, Sigmar kills his ass again, and he comes back again
>Nagash now engages in a cold war with the Tomb Kings, seeking his crown
>>
>>54954734
>Settra finally wipes the sleep from his skull, sees everyone shitting and pissing everywhere, and goes fucking ballistic
>he brutally forces all the proud princes of Nehekhara under his rule, smarter ones just bend the knee when told to
>Settra is organizing and securing his realm, looking to punish chimp tier savages (as he sees them) squatting in his periphery realms (as he sees them)

Also the vampires are still out there, having tricked and betrayed Nagash. Most of them pee blood at the thought of his full return but some still worship him.

Is there any more detailed information on Bretonnian cities outside of Mousilion? Knights of the Grail really only has vague summaries of most cities, with L'Anguille getting the most attention as part of an adventure and some mentions in other books of an elf quarter there, but otherwise it seems like you can't find near as much detail as you can on Middenheim, Talabheim or Nuln.

My favoutire is 6th so i'll tell you about it

>WFB 6th ed.
In this edition, game were lenghts more tactical than one might think, because the bulk of it's gameplay was centered about movement actions, in fact many armies has particlar movement or foration options that was available only to them.
In this edition, you could play both small skirmishes (1000-1500 pts.) or great conlfict (2000+ pts) with little effort, but you needed to be careful on how to build your army roster and how to kit your heroes.
A great deal of emphasis was given to morale. Generally, you won your game by making the enemy route, rather than kill him. Heroes and Lord, albeit powerful, were generally not able to win the battle by themselves. They needed a strong support from their troops. Generally the most powerful lords only had 100 pts available of magic equipment, (except dwarfs, whose Dwarf Lord had 125 pts availabe) but you had to make them count because magic equipment was very expensive and usually you'd use the most powerful option only in 3000+ games, where you could have a good number of specialised heroes.
Losing your general or you BSB, even if your army didn't need him to stay alive like Vampires and Tomb Kangz, was a crippling blow that could cost you the game because it could make them chainrout pretty fast.
Special characters were absolute monsters, some more than others, but where usually relegated to VERY big games, otherwise they were just not worth it.
Cannons and artillery were the big leagues of this edition. It's not a coincidence the "everything can be solved by cannons" meme originated from here, but still, if you played your cards right, you could stop them easily enough.

All in all, a good edition, probably the best balanced among different factions. You can play quick games with pre-made lists, but i found out it is particularly good if you tailor your list depending on the opponent

Ind is a land of a million gods, in lore Lokhir Felheart carved his sword from a daemonlike idol of an Indan god

So isn't it basically fact (implied) that Indans worship daemons alongside their non-daemon gods?
>>
>>54958414
Gods and daemons are pretty much interchangable as far as warhammer go. They both live in the warp. Ind could have more magic permeating the region thus lending itself to more magic in general.
It would also fit in with the occidental comparison of India with the west.

I don't think they'll ever be in. The opportunity for Halflings would have been at the beginning of the TWW1 development cycle if they had invested decent money into making the whole map the right dimensions (aka space for all the duchies of Bretonnia, the cities of Tilea, decently sized Estalia). Instead budget constraints and fears of a flop lead to the game to be smaller than it should have been and factions being 1-province wonders.

At least Sartosa is in TWW2.

Dwarfs are at a biological extreme compared to humans in that only 1 out of 3 births are females, resulting in an high excess of male dwarfs. The female dwarfs naturally are expected to have lots of kids, and because there are so many boys even when dwarf society is declining population-wise there are always enough male dwarfs to muster a sizable throng.

>>
>>54959971
That'd just be paying lip service to old fans while pissing off new fans. It'd be easier to just bring back WFB - it's not as if the minis and rulebooks couldn't be made available again, and in some cases GW never stopped making them.

Maybe it would be, but GW could just come out with new WFB minis if they couldn't produce some of the older ones. Though I will admit, it's sad that Ind's lore can be summed up in two words: it's strange. Their gods are strange, their currency is strange, their relationship with beastmen are strange. You think they could've put more effort into it than that, even with what little they did.

I think it sort of shows a lack of international clout desu. Bretonnians are awesome Frakish Knights, Empire is the HRE and then Cathay and Ind just get a few mentions (some, not most of it kind of racist - eg Ind food gives a guy diarrhea, superstitions etc.)

What would you think would be good proxies for Eastern areas? Thinking:

Ind: Lizardmen army rules (not scaly skin etc., but more warrior clans, tigermen, holymen and yogis as priests, sacred oliphants as stegadon proxies)

Araby: Tomb Kangz (Parthia inspired, djinni as constructs like ushabti, viziers and emirs as hierophants etc.)

Cathay: Empire (except dragons as griffon mounts - magma fyreslayer mount is great as a shenlong/temple guardian)

This really made me want to finally read Ancient Blood, but sadly I can't find it in the mega or anywhere else. Am I blind, or doe any of you conveniently have a pdf?
>>
>>54961603
really hope it does. such a fun, unexplored part of the WFB universe.

All it needs is the return of 9th edition (probably under a cool new name, like Warhammer Classic) and GW would make even more moolah.

For those doubtful, especially post- End Times, all it takes for a new edition of WFB to emerge is one thing:

sellable unit movers.

Just get a tile mover for each unit, bring the rank bonus needed back to 6e level (4 per rank), and it solves the hassle of forming ranks whilst still keeping the dynamic poses of post-AoS models.

Add rules for Apocalypse-style battles, bonuses to monstrous cavalry and monsters, different levels of magic interaction and you'd have an awesome new edition.

This list is a list of ideas. However rereading it, it doesn't have the core discipline of other books, instead just suggesting some rather generic choices based on myths, religions and legends.
Remember that for the most part, magic and daemons aren't a part of everyday life in the Old World. As such suggesting four armed kalika doesn't go too smoothly with typical human troops, and a 'ganesha' rare choice also seems offensive, being as they are based off Hindu deities.

This list would fit in well with the Heroes of Might and Magic aesthetic, but current choices for WFB have a lot more refinement and subtlety than this (something that has been lost unfortunately with AoS I feel)

Plus some of the choices here seem rather hokey. As another anon pointed on, tiger cavalry seems a tad generic - why not mongoose riding cavalry instead? (/joke).

Horse-riding lancers on the other hand? Great, as it has strong ties with the part of the world that the armybook is inspired by.

The Dwarf books (Grudge/Honour/Oath) are alright.
Gotrek and Felix is massively overrated imo.
Blackhearts is fun pulpy fiction.
I didn't really like the Malus Darkblade novels myself.

That said, the reason I recommend not picking up 3e now is that 4e is on its way. It is explicitly serving as a successor to 1 and 2, not 3, so if you start 3 now you'll just have to learn a whole new, entirely different rule set in 6 months.
>>
>>54965377
This. 2e seems a lot more popular even if you don't really care about rules, so it's probably easier to find people to play with that system. Main reason I'd look at 3e is for fluff-related things.

Why aren't my WHFRP 2E players dying?

I have been GMing this campaign for 2 years noe and not a single PC has died, not even close. Granted, most of the time I fudged the stats on enemies so they were fairly low. However, on two occasions J went all-out, spending hours creating customized enemy warbands at least as strong as the players. Each time the PCs killed them all without anyone even spending a fate point, the former through clever tactics and fortifications and the latter through fighting the mob in a confined space. Now they see themselves as untouchable. I need to kill one of them. How do I do so?
>>
Here's a random theory: I don't think that what happened to Mousilion was like what happened to Sylvania.

Sylvania had a lot of warpstone rain on it, and became a land of undeath mainly due to the attention of Vlad and the other vampires, as well as having something of a history of necromancy.

I think that Mousilion was tainted by the Skaven - seeding Warpstone in the right places, causing plagues and even immunity to plagues in an attempt to cause civil war by manipulating pawns like Merovech. The fact that undead are attracted to place is just a side effect of the taint and the dark history that came after. It would also explain why Mousilion isn't really set up as a second Sylvania - it is a tainted place, but people still live and trade there, and it's not under the thumb of vampires (for the most part). The Skaven have an outpost there and use Mousilion for research of sorts.

There's also a fluff bit in Barony of the Damned where a sorceress was mysteriously assassinated. What race has a history of assassinating others? Skaven.

I once did a siege defence against 2 chaos/marauder armies that were mostly cavalry, chariots, and monsters. This was pre-Norsca, so I was lucky, because they ended up only having like 4-5 units that could scale the walls, plus their Lord. So what I ended up doing what making sure that gate stayed fucking blocked, and positioned a cannon behind it. I honestly didn't think I'd win, but I was determined to make them pay.

And then... I did win. Because after the gates fell, and my troops were forced to fight to hold them back, I just took control of the cannon myself, and fired shot after shot over the heads of my soldiers, into the enemy ranks. And eventually killed a lot of their army this way. Another large chunk were killed my crossbowmen and handgunners positioned above and around the gate. It was glorious!

WFRP is a lot less deadly than it is alleged to be. The only 'death' so far in my campaign was when the party dwarf got jumped by a stone troll with no backup.

In terms of taking the wind out of their sails, I would suggest focusing npc attacks on a single pc, using All Out Attack to get a nice bonus to hit and/or using something that stuns or incapacitates.

I find the biggest problem with deadly encounters is the play time. Combat takes so long to resolve that, if you want to run a fight that genuinely challenges the PCs, you need to set aside a few hours to do it. You can run quick combats without much trouble, but they tend to be quick because the PCs win easily.

Frankly, it has the stink of Nagash all over it to me. We know Landuin was inconsolable after Gilles died, and withdrew to his home. We know he started receiving "strange foreign visitors." We know a friend tried to talk about...something...to him, and that Landuin wounded him about the face. We know Landuin DIED OF A WASTING ILLNESS, the only Grail Knight to do so.

I tend to think he turned himself into a living experiment in necromancy to try and bring back Gilles, and in the doing became some sort of source of dhar radiation. Not an outright vampire, since he's not really active, but something toxic anyway. I don't even think he's in his tomb, but still somewhere in the palace, which had a reputation for being cursed as far back as Merovech, who in his madness believed he WAS Landuin.

I figure it was all a plan on someone's part, probably Arkhan's, to sicken Bretonnia for an eventual takeover.

I used to, yes, but in each of the occasions where I put those tough enemy warbands against them I let the damage roll true. They still had no problems. A few PCs have been dropped to low-single digit wounds a few times, and the tank did burn one Fate point but that was to avoid an insanity

If in 2 years none of mobs had luck to throw multiple of Ulric's furry then at some point one of them will.

The fact that most PC's end their adventure as dung shoveler does not mean that weapomasters, guild leaders, wizard lords and chaos dragons are never meant to be used.
But stay fair.
Designing a story/game with idea of killing one of them because it was 2 years is not fair.

Then your players are playing correctly. WHFRP is considered a deadly system mainly because you can die in a single lucky hit and because playing it like DnD will get you murdered. It's not terrible to a group of PCs with some XP under their belt and good heads on their shoulders.
