I actually talk to players and ask them to describe their best past roleplaying experiences. Generally that will tell you if they're a That Guy or just in it to murder-hobo or play an anime character.

Anyone who uses shitty "criteria" need to learn to actually talk to people and quit being an autist.

I invite people from various previous games I was in or people I know have an interest in the system. One time I invited someone to an Only War game who was joining my friends pathfinder game. This is what they did in that game.

It's not like I come there and sniff you up close, but there's some kind of smell (unpleasant) that kinda hovers over some people and just tells you how edgy/meme lord/bad a player would be should you allow them in your campaign.

I invite them to lunch/dinner. Helps see what they're like in a casual setting for an extended amount of time. Really has weeded out a lot of spergs and weirdos
