Star Wars is very, very popular in the USA. Outside of it, not so much. Even in Europe the only place where the movies are real blockbusters are the UK. So they tried making Battletech have simultaneous turns/battles in various ways, including having you plot paths and then decide after seeing those paths when you wanted to fire. They were really bad, apparently, and that led to the current system.

Why not just make Mechcommander 3?

Also, the exhibition hall is crazy packed. It was my first time in such a thing and it was insane. The Battletech demo got filled up real quick, unfortunately for me, but then I went to a stupid panel that was worthless because there was only 1 guy talking and the projector was broken so there were no images. It was for Pathfinder: Kingmaker, a BG2-style CRPG that's in development. No, it won't be open-ended enough that you can convince the Hill Giant to be your ally temporarily. I should've stayed to demo Battletech instead and ask Weisman some questions about Mercs and Harmony Gold.

There is always plenty of Cosplay at cons, but it's just people in costume.
They have their own dedicated areas, they're not clogging up the show floor, so they're not really a factor disrupting your experience unless you seek them out.
You might run into costumed people on the floor, but that just means they're browsing games just like you are, they just happen to be wearing a costume.

Furries are probably not really a factor at all, there might be some in the Cosplay areas, but unless they're mascots for a booth, they're again unlikely to be on the show floor.
They're probably not going to be browsing the show floor in costume, as they'd melt in the heat with those suits on.

I only managed one day, but I went to a bunch of really interesting panels, like the Harebrained Schemes one and the Ulisses one. I actually got to ask a question. I only got to play Battletech Bootcamp though, and I got lost looking for lunch because I couldn't decide what to get for about 40 minutes.

I picked up 2 Harn RPG/Setting books, which are just worldbuilding binders. Really pricy, but I decided I wanted to splurge. And I got a GenCon 50 Belgian beer glass, as well as a shirt. Really overpriced, but eh. In 50 years it'll be collectable. No, no it won't.

I really didn't enjoy the Pathfinder: Kingmaker panel. I was really tired, there was only 1 speaker, and the projector was broken so there were no images. I will also never again go for only 6 hours; it's not enough time.

I will go again next year if I get a new job and can afford to go.

This has happened a few times previously. I'm dating myself here, but the last time I was at GenCon was in 2005 and I played in that fuckoff huge battle across a canyon map. Table was well over 20 feet long. Someone parked a Mars Assault Tank on a bridge and killed 14 Mechs of various types until someone blew the bridge.

Those were good times, man.
