Just got a SC Skaven box and the Skirmish/Path to Glory books, teach me aos, how do I rat?
>>
Reposting in fresh bread

Would the old (and best) Changeling model be ok to use as a Cairnwraith or some type of Necromancer? I'm thinking about selling my Tzeentch daemons. However, the old metal Changeling is legit one of my favorite models, so I want to keep it.
>>
>>54927146
Well, you got a few options. Are you stinky rats?
>>
>>54927180
I think so? It's the Skaven Pestilence starting box, I also got a Grey rat, I think? and the 2 runner guys from Silver Tower
>>
>>54927146
Monks are beasts in Skirmish and the priest is pretty handy is such small games. Also Skaven Pestilens gonna get new allegiance abilities in the new GHB. If I were you, I would wait until GHB release to see what you benefit from new abilities and what you should buy next - maybe it would be worth to mix your rats with new nurgle daemons?
>>
>>54927194
Oh I totally forgot, I got 2 Isle of Blood/Spire of Dawn boxes lying around, that's a TON of Skaven, if any of that is good for stuff
>>
>>54927146
Want lots of rats. Plague monks are awesome in skirmish. A stormfiend is also good. Skirmish is nice because you're not bound by clan allegiance.
Pestilens is what I mainly use in regular play, but skryre is definitely stronger (even though stormies are going to be nerfed). Skryre and pestilens are about to get allegiance specific stuff.

my only concern with the metal one would be altering or removing that large tzeentch charm at his waist - not insurmountable for a determined modeller - otherwise replacing the staff top and chopping the extra arms would leave you with a very cool ghost/mage looking dude.
>>
>>54927556

I don't know, I think the staff is a good scythe looking staff. It's not overtly Tzeentchy; it's more or less just a bird skull. The symbol is easy enough to change (kek).

Could anons with experience with Skirmish tell me how they found it? How quick was it? Was it fun? Missed my local stores AoS night so hope to get something ready for next week. Going in with my Grots.
>>
Sylva-Death anon here from last thread. How good are Spite-Revenants? I like the concept of them a lot more than the normal Tree-Revenants, and doing a Dreadwood Wargrove would be pretty cool with a mix of undead stuff in there. I figure Spirit Hosts make for a cool stand in if I make them look like the spirits are coming out of some sort of foliage, and likewise the Spite Revenants could easily make for spirit hosts.
>>
What are some good third party minis that you use?
>>
>>54927626
The games are quick, expect them to last around half an hour. I found them to be great fun. (I play grots as well)
>>
>>54927626
Easy to learn and quick to play - something about ~40 minutes. If you have some other armies then you should build an extra warband or two and try to invite your friends - it's a great way to attract newbies

So I'm a 40k player, but as I was digging through my old stuff I came across my ancient Dogs of War army I briefly toyed with in Warhammer Fantasy. Tons of pikes, crossbows, and armored knights in a roughly roman theme.

Is there any way to use this in Age of Sigmar? Is there such a thing as a phalanx unit in this game?

Because it's not him. Karl Franz died before AoS. He existed in the old world. Sigmar didn't start taking up souls until long long long after the old world was destroyed and kingdoms rose and fell in the mortal realms.

It's not Karl Franz
>>
>>54933431
Who is it then? Alcadizaar?
>>
>>54933489
We don't know his name. He was just a great king of one of the biggest human kingdoms in the mortal realms during the age of chaos, where the mortal realms were being conquered by chaos
>>
>>54933431
but the mortal realms were fucking destroyed when the Old World was destroyed, this timeline makes no sense!
>>
>>54933593
What are blathering about? The mortal realms, i.e. the eight realms of magic, only arose after the world was reshaped.
>>
>>54933593
What are you on about? The winds of magic formed into the mortal realms during end times, then the old world was destroyed. Sigmar found the mortal realms later and helped build up and guide civilisations toward progress.
>>
>>54933672

>>54934034

>>
>>54928838
Have your heroes been reboxed? If yes then take a look on GW site. If no, then go 25mm
>>
>>54934018
Looking at the Skirmish book, it seems that:

Starpriest is cheaper:100>80
Terradon Riders are cheaper: 140>120
Skinks are cheaper: 80>60

No confirmation though, but if you do the reverse math on those renown costs, it does imply that. We'll have to see, would be helpfull, since with just a few deductions I could fill in those last 20 points and swap out a monster for a more expensive one.
>>
>>54934087
You could say the same thing about the Mortal realms, who gives a shit about them?

If we were fighting to restore or reclaim the old world that would be awesome, but it was blown to bits.
>>
>>54933896
>>54933976
just a couple of 2mm magnets should do it? I don't have any other drill-bits that I think would fit in the wings, so I'd have to just leave the wings off until next week or something

Thanks for the heads up about the wings, I was kinda hoping I'd get away with not magnetising them, but in the 40k thread I got told to magnetise them as well, so it seems like it'd be stupid not to

Raging Heroes. They have a line of elves called blood vestals that I use for witch aelves. They're sexier and a bit cheaper than them, too.
>>
>>54934266
If its of any consolation anon, some smart chap posted a pretty rad website to make your own maps. If there is one nice bit about having such a broad spectrum, you can literally carve out your own place tidily in any realm as they are described as their own settings in and of themselves. Plus its not out there to have a chaos sorcerer or a goblin to crack open a portal to enter another realm.

For me the reason i dont mind is: its like a home. A home is not made up by the property but more so the people living in it. We still have our fave armies, just the locations are different.
>>
>>54934317
I think that was me in the previous thread right?

>>
>>54934226

Core rules and General's Handbook. Skirmish book will be handy for small games. Everything is in OP post

He had a pretty ambigious (but positive) closing chapter in Fantasy. Carrying Gobbla's dead body on a platform with the remaining Goblins, he vanished into the mountains. Regardless if they bring him back that is arguably one of the best endings of any character in Fantasy. Plus his legacy lives on as Giant Cave Squigs and massive magic sticks seem to be the norm now.

>>54935356
>well judging by the Skirmish book
Poor assumption

Skirmish doesnt use faction allegiances (ie Stormcast, Sylvaneth, etc.) so its balanced around a different ruleset than Matched Play
>>
>>54935403
>so its balanced around a different ruleset
Kek, no.

It's just a formula that translate points into renown.

No real balancing, just an excel file.
>>
GH2 pdf leaked when?
>>
>>54935417
Exactly, and according to my calculations skinks should now be:

>Starpriest is cheaper:100>80
>Terradon Riders are cheaper: 140>120
>Skinks are cheaper: 80>60 or 50
>>
>>54935417
If it was just a formula then there would be no difference between points and renown after resolving the formula. Obviously that's not the case because there are differences - some units cost more, some cost less.

The reason is that Skirmish is balanced around a specific set of rules and does not include faction-specific bonuses from allegiances. Those bonuses make some units more/less powerful than what their warscrolls state, which means their point costs will be different. Matched Play is balanced around those bonuses.

Furthermore, we have no idea if any of the people that write the GHB are involved in any way with the Skirmish supplement. There is also months of time between Skirmish and GHB, which can lead to any number of changes. We have no idea what the internal production of GW looks like and trying to draw conclusions about the next GHB from Skirmish is a poor assumption.

If you don't understand this then you're an idiot.
>>
>>54935481
I'm not even gonna answer to such blatant autism.

You are seeing way more than there is to it.
>>
>>54935481
Or, the renown costs were already calculated based on the new point costs of the units in the GBH 2017. Since people ran calculations on the new Fyreslayer point costs, and it all matched up.
>>
>>54935575
Or theyre not, for all the reasons I already stated

Not him, but what are you suggesting is:
1) It's either a massive work for a 8€ supplement, that involved careful balancing based on faction specific bonuses, and it's only a coincidence all of them coincide with the points we know and expect from the new GH
2) A simple point conversion from the GH2

And you think they are equally credible hypothesis, so much that this allow you to be a dismissive asshole with the whole thing?

And never was it stated as 100% confirmed new lizardmen point costs. But there is some basis for these assumptions.

Now, I'm very sorry you had to find out that Skirmish was just calculated by a formula instead of a Special Task Force for Design, but unless you prove to me that any unit doesn;t follow that formula, please kindly stop calling people idiots.

But I guess you prefer Stormcast vs Freeguild discussions and 'Aelves when' posts over speculation and interaction with new cool army lists people are cooking up

>1) It's either a massive work
I never said that. Changing skirmish values is very trivial, usually a difference of only 1 or 2 renown. With very limited playtesting they could see some units were underperforming or overperforming and decrease/increas etheir renown costs.
>and it's only a coincidence all of them coincide with the points we know and expect from the new GH
I never denied that they used a formula, just that trying to claim the formula is 100% based on GHB2 is a poor assumption because there are numerous factors that easily disprove the assumption. It's far more likely that they based it off GHB1 and then modified it to suit the Skirmish ruleset.

>>54935664
>And never was it stated as 100% confirmed new lizardmen point costs
Maybe you should learn to read:
>Okay, well judging by the Skirmish book, there are some point decreases coming which should allow me to replace the Troglodon with a Bastilodon.

>but unless you prove to me that any unit doesn;t follow that formula
We don't know any values from GHB17 (even the Fyreslayer points were only a PREVIEW and not FINAL and thus inadmissible evidence) so this is an impossible task.
Which scenario is more likely:
A. Skirmish is based on current GHB1 point costs and then slightly modified to balance the game for its new ruleset
B. Skirmish is based on the points in GHB2 which account for 20 new allegiance abilities, massive regiments, new units, new artifacts, new spells, new rules, new command traits... and are likely not finalized 3-5 months before release, which is approximately when Skirmish would have been written.
Answer: A

Hey dude, so here's what you have possibly.

A greyseer
A plague priest
Either a screaming bell or a plague furnace
20 monks
60-80 clanrats
2 plague wind mortars
2 warp fire throwers
2 engineers
2 warlords
2 deathrunners
4 rat ogres
2 packmasters

Here is what I would do

Choose what clan of skaven you like best out of Verminus, Pestilence & skryre. Build up towards either of those clans.

For Verminus, it's simple, you need 2 boxes of Storm vermin. From this you will get 20 storm vermin and a flag to convert one of your warlords to a chieftain with Battlestandard. You will also be able to run the clan Verminus Battalion since it requires 3 units of clan rats, 3 weapon teams, a unit of Storm vermin and a warlord.

Look for synergies is the main piece of advice I will give you.

Hey guys, Dogs of War anon again.

I dredged up all the models I could find and took inventory, looks like I have 50 of the greek-looking pikes, 25 of the leopard company pikes, 24 heavy cavalry, plus a few of the big shield crossbows and heavy armored pikes. Real shame on these last since I love the models but apparently only ever bought 6 of them. I think the massive feather plumes turned me off when I was young. I also have the light cannon guy who rode around limbering and unlimbering his artillery.

Anyways, is this a sizable force for AoS? You guys mentioned these models could be used with Freeguilds, but I only see spears as an option for them...are pikes not a thing in this game? I was hoping for a kind of greek phalanx style of play with them.

I need advice /aosg/. I'm going to play tomorrow against SC with Sylvaneth. We are going to use battle plan where both players have a objective to defend while trying to attack the other one. Normally I go full offence with two units of kurnoth hunters, one with swords and one with scythes supported by TL ancient. It sounds good on paper anon but you need to decide what exactly you would like them to represent. Check up the Freeguild Warscrolls to get an idea but it seems more than sizeable, certainly for a 1k point AOS army.

However the new General's Handbook (points and army distribution) is coming out soon, so maybe wait for that to get an idea. However the Freeguild Warscrolls will remain unaltered so check there.

There is also the Warscroll builder in the OP which lets you construct an army list from nothing, so that can help you gauge what units will be suitable.

Also, without exact numbers it's difficult to work out a functional army, especially with the GHB2 inbound, but this doesn't look horrible. Could probably do with a little more ranged threat, but it'd work.

It's not going to be a meta defining playstyle but it should be fun

>>54941119
Why not? You can mix and match for whatever you are eligible to use.

You can still only pick one Battle Trait, one Command Trait, and one Artefact, but you can use whichever ones are valid for your army.
>>
>>54940992
>use two allegiances at the same time
>waste two Destiny Dice of 6
>get a garbage Tzeentch DP that's worth twice the points of the faction's cheapest hero
Making mad plays, I see.
>>
How does the setting work with just 'regular dudes'.

Isn't it like, 8 magical realms filled with monsters and such. Doesn't seem like the sort of fantasy that lends itself to world-building, just lots of big armies and CRAZY stuff.
>>
>>54941168
Yes, and ONE allegiance ability.
>>
>>54941198
Do we really need to go over this every fucking thread? Multiple times?

>>54941168
>Meanwhile, the Eye of the Gods allegiance ability can transform any Chaos Hero in your Slaves to Darkness into a powerful Daemon Prince with a lucky roll – or, if you’re unlucky, a gibbering Chaos Spawn
It's a allegiance ability, of which you can only have one for obvious reasons.

Oh, that's super, waste more resources on a 160pts beatstick.
Even if it were legal it wouldn't be useful.
>>
>>54941227
>It's a allegiance ability, of which you can only have one for obvious reasons.
You have a fundamental misunderstanding of what Allegiance Ability means

Your army can be Stormcast Allegiance but still pick bonuses from the Order allegiance

If this was not the case then any army that uses Battleline-if X units would not be able to benefit from their grand alliance allegiance bonuses
>>
>>54940932
Atm theyre the best unit in the death aligence for their points
>>

>Why do new people keep playing the game and trying to post in this thread REEEEEEEE FUCK OFF NEW PEOPLE!!!!

Meh I don't know much about AoS aside from osmisis and seeing people at my LGS get introduced to it.

Some models look cool, but I'm not really sure I could get invested in the setting if there are no stakes and nothing to relate to.
>>
>>54940932
They are arguably the best unit in the entire game right now. The entire competitive meta is shaped by Necropolis Knights and Thundertusks. Aetherstrike is a response to Necro Knights.

Before any buffs they're already way more valuable than their point cost would indicate (they cost 160 and are strictly better than a lot of units that cost 240+). Then you add in the buffs that they can get (Deathrattle is the best keyword in the game) and they become unstoppable murder machines

Okay, let me rephrase that: You can only have one Battle Trait as part of your allegiance. Both Eye of the Gods and Destiny Dice are Battle Traits. Thus you cannot have both. Am I clear now?
Also, fuck you for making me look this up.
>>
>>54941345
>Why do new people keep refusing to just read the fucking books instead of wanting to be spoonfed?
>>
>>54941306
Great, now tell me how many SCE armies have both Defiant Avengers and Scions of the Storm, or how many Beastclaw Raiders have both Rampaging Destroyers and Everwinter's Blessing? None? What a shocker.
>>
>>54941306
While you are right about the ability to pick and choose between shit from the allegiances you still cannot have two abilities at the same time.
>>
>>54941526
Destiny Dice is the Tzeentch Battle Trait
This Slaves ability is (probably) not the battle trait since the article just calls it an "allegiance ability"
>>
>>54941386

>>54941507

How many battle traits do I get? Is pestilens going to force me to pick between a bravery boost skryre has and the plagues?
>>
>>54941387
But knights are 240 points per unit in the new General's handbook. Since it comes out next week and I get the last models I need next week I really want to get a point efficient army
>>
>>54941576
You can pick 1 Battle Trait for your army to use, but you can pick any Battle Trait from any Allegiance you qualify for

So for example you can run a Beastclaw Allegiance army but still pick the Destruction Battle Trait
>>
>>54941602
>plague rats get cucked again
Well fuck me
>>
>>54941426
I've always wished there were allegiances for more keywords, like if every model in your grand alliance list has the MORTAL keyword you could choose to use MORTAL abilities instead of ORDER/CHAOS/DESTRUCTION/DEATH/<FACTION>
>>
>>54941549
Allegiance ability is common shorthand for the Battle Trait even in these threads, chances are Eye of the Gods is the same. I mean, what else would it be? Artifact? Command Trait? It's too elaborate and wordy for either, especially since the article specifically mentions that any hero in your army can benefit from this.
>>
>>54941600
>But knights are 240 points per unit in the new General's handbook.
While the preview is probably still accurate, we don't know this for sure. There has been a lot of discussion in the pro scene (and they have direct ties to GW - look for ironjaw point cuts for most of their units!) that the tomb king nerfs were too heavy handed and might be toned back.

Regardless, even at 240 they're still god tier units. Their damage and defenses are top notch in the right army. TK are still going to be defining the meta, but they won't be oppressively crushing games and warping the meta like they are now.
>>
>>54941617
Not necessarily. Up until now, all allegiances have only had 1 BT. I think anon means you have to pick your allegiance to take the traits from, and then you get the associated traits. Otherwise there's no point in even playing pestilens.
>>
>>54941650
Ironjawz lower points? Are we talking major drop or just slight?
>>
>>54941620
That is precisely what the GBHII will have.

>>54941576
Yes, you get to choose one and only one.

>>54941569
There sure are many relics or command traits that "can transform any Chaos Hero in your [army]", right?
>>
>>54941623
>Allegiance ability is common shorthand for the Battle Trait
No it isnt

The article even uses the phrase Battle Trait when talking about Slaneesh. If it was the BT then they would have called it as such.

>what else would it be? Artifact? Command Trait?
Yes, either of those. This ability only effects Heroes and battle traits are typically army-wide bonuses while Artefacts and CTs only effect heroes.
>>
>>54941650
Oh alright. I'll see what do to then. Sphinx went up by just 40 points iirc, hopefully they don't get fucked up too much.
I really hoped they would have their own allegiance rules but I can't have anything, guess the death ones will do
>>
>>54941617
Why? It's the same for everybody else.
>>
>>54941729
They were already terrible to begin with. No save and slow as fuck with low bravery? Nice. Now the only way to improve them screws them
>>
So when are they actually releasing this stupid book? I was told it was supposed to be on pre order this week

Feel ya. Playing against tzeentch is the most unfunny thing ever. Oh wow you just summoned a bale wind vortex and autosniped the strongest character in my army from the other side of the field on turn one by using destiny dice. How fun.
At least you can put up a fight with Beastclaw raiders and it's all fun before they club you to death

Spire of dawn weapon teams are plastic so maybe this one is too
>>
>>54942810
If your army has all the necessary keyword allegiances, i.e. Chaos, Slaanesh and Slaves to Darkness, then, yes, you can mix and match.

There is no reason to assume you don't get both. Kharadron sorta get more than one trait (after a fashion) and it's not like the two traits are even vaguely equal in terms of power.

Very equal. If they had any attack-count buffs, two-hand weapons would win hands down, but they don't. The shields are very meh, as well. In the end, I'd go for the two-hand weapons simply for the additional Rend.

The only thing you really have to keep in mind is to keep them close to a Doombull because his Command makes their Bloodgreed more effective.
