In short, yes. There's no real world-building to it. You don't know anything about the universe, what threats you'll face, races you'll meet, places you'll see, except for the limited options presented in the cyoa itself.

Now, this isn't inherently a bad thing. Plenty of authors make bare bones power fantasies with no real context except "pick these powers, pick your girl". However, I think this is exacerbated when the content is based on an existing property

It's a pretty generic science fiction setting apart from that.

As an example, I think it would have been better to expand on what the Guardians actually are in the beginning. While it's cute to have Cosmo, a non-Marvel fan would benefit more from something along the lines of "a loose coalition of exemplary individuals from
across the universe, created in the wake of a war that almost destroyed reality. The Guardians of the Galaxy exist to asses and eliminate threats before they happen", instead of "you guard the galaxy"! This would serve to both immerse the reader in a world with a backstory, loosely allude to the team's origin, give an example of what you might be up against, and give a sense of induction into something amazing. Probably wouldn't hurt to allude to a reason why the reader themself has been chosen, even if accidental. Don't get me wrong, as a Marvel fan myself, I enjoy the glib Cosmo intro but I don't think it's conducive to immersion. Sets the right tone, though, so it's all subjective.

I think it could be beneficial to expand on the powers to give a sense of scale, as well. How fast can you regenerate, how powerful are your concussive blasts, but some authors like to leave things vague and up to the imagination of the reader. Unlike the previous point, I think this affects someone familiar with the universe more, as comicfags are suckers for power levels. Can I hit as hard as Thor? Is my telepathy greater or lesser than Moondragon's? You get the idea.

Just off the top of my head, the induction could be given by a different narrator, then have Cosmo for the companions and stuff to create a more friendly, familiar atmosphere for that section. Worldmind is good for exposition dumps, although canonically that wouldn't fit

I think I did originally have a longer write up for why the player was joining, but ultimately decided to scrap it and leave it vague.

And the power level thing is tricky because in the source material it fluctuates all the time based on the writers.

Sorry about that. Again, I tried to make it work standalone but I guess it didn't work out. A little confusing, but in a surreal "Horse with No Name" sense and not legitimate “what the hell is going on”. The Marid, Juno and Jann sections of pic related should hopefully explain what is going on, though I’m not sure how to actually integrate that information since none of the narrators would really explain it to the protagonist. Maybe if I explicitly named the fiancée Eurydice it would be clearer? I don’t have a lot of space to rewrite but I’ll try my best to make it more understandable.

Yeah sorry, that was a problem I encountered with doing pure narrative in the larger project. If it’s just a multiple choice story, it’s really hard to give enough choices with limited space, at least for me who has a problem with text walls and succinctness. And you’re correct, the food+underworld connection is a reference to the fate of Persephone/Prosperina/whatever name filtered through the Juno thing. Though the pebbles themselves are fragments of the water-giving stone Moses struck and broke, preventing him from entering the Promised Land. All regrets find their way into the desert eventually.

Whenever I decide to read through one, I think about the situation for a bit, choose what I might like, and explain why if it's in a thread, but that's it. There's really not much for me to do after that, it's not like I'm writing a story or playing a game or really getting nitty gritty with fleshing out something. Where does the long term escapism come in?

The intro states that I have already won the grail game. Isn't the only reason why servants and masters attack each other because they are taking part in the grail war? I made this build with the primary goal of living a comfy life. Combat was a secondary concern.

Within our territory my servant will have EX-Rank magic, agility, and endurance along with a powerful anti-unit phantasm. My servant also has the highest rank of divinity, which should give absurd resistance to magic and conceptual attacks. With EX-Rank item construction I can build an army of homunculus who will all wield noble-phantasm-tier weapons.

Within our territory my servant's B-Rank self-field defense will be increased to A-Rank. A-Rank self-field defense makes it so all attacks that would hit me are nullified and deflected. So, nobody can kill me without killing my servant first. Fuck you assassins.

With EX-Rank item construction, my servant can create a philosopher's stone, which will grant me immortality. With B-Rank golden rule, we will always have enough money to live affluently. We will never need to leave our territory, even to buy supplies. We can just task homunculi with buying everything we need to live. My lifestyle will be that of a NEET. I will live with my servant/waifu in our territory forever.

Well, it's kind of a bizarre setup. He's a tyrannical narcissist, but he's also very caring and dedicated to his subjects. So, he is kind of a "good ruler," but he's an asshole about it.

Hell is kind of like a Chuck E Cheese's; for the most part, it's just a series of infinite debaucherous pocket dimensions ruled over by the most sinful being in each where everyone's allowed to run around sinning and partying themselves to exhaustion. But behind the scenes, there is a staff and management who make sure everyone is "safe" and having a good time. They just don't intervene very much.
But if you want to exploit it for power, just get on Taavetti's good side.

Maxed durability is a must. I'm supposed to be some rare and crazily strong person - how lame would it be if I died to a normal human with a gun? With maxed durability most bullets just bounce off of me. That means I won't ever be killed by some random thug in a back alley or by a stray bullet fired by a hunter.

According to the description shapeshifting grants a kind of immortality. When I age I will be able to shapeshift into a younger version of myself

Jasmine looks batshit crazy. She's probably a yandere, and I'm into that sort of thing. Having a yandere vampire by my side sounds like fun. I have maxed out durability, what could possibly go wrong?

Both the occult club and the fight club sound like a lot of fun. I made sure to take a lot of friends in both clubs. I also made sure that my rival was in neither club to minimize his relevance to my social circle.

Nobody in the fight club stands a chance against me. I don't have any speed enhancements, but that doesn't matter because I can stop time. Regardless of how fast my enemy is, my attacks will always connect.

With my enhanced durability I may let myself take a few hits just to keep things interesting. The gambling money may be better if it looks like I'm struggling a little. When I want to finish the fight I can stop time and hit my opponent a few dozen times. When time resumes it will appear as if I only hit my opponent once to everybody else.

With timestop I'm a made man in the future. I can stop time and cheat at gambling or just steal money directly.

I just made the first page of this.
I haven't paid much attention to the balance so maybe someone has some criticisms on what it looks like now.

My plan is three point pools.
The first is capital points. Which you all spend on this page.
Then there's wealth points, which you spend on living conditions and special priviliges and the like.
The lastly there's companions, which take the form of especially talented employees, investors or politicians. If you play your companion game right you can get some of the inner circle of a rival company to join you in a power play, getting some of those percentages from the black "kept internal" bar of the companies stock to add to your power block.
I'm also debating on wether I should make explicit what kind of power plays you can make. I get that that for a lot of people it isn't as intuitive as when you see a feudal map and know that you can march your troops here, need to defend that long border there and can cut off a vital chokepoint further on. Maybe I should make a list of things you can do, sign for exclusive production rights with other companies, sabotage an industry that's dependent on one you have a strong hold over, suddenly dump all their stocks, etc.
