Open fire is worth the splash.
Manalith could be replaced with beneath the sands. Lose one mountain.
Cunning survivor is not great, but sandwalla is fine. It's won games for me.

Pouncing cheetah is not great. Better in control which you are not.
Gift of strength is a fine trick.

Naga Oracle is fine wall.

When I said new to limited I actually meant to say new to magic, sorry. As a result I don't know how to recognize any deck archetypes. I'm completely clueless as to what separates a midrange or control deck.

I don't know to drop something when it doesn't fit my archetype because I can't recognize archetypes anyway, so can you help explain what characteristics of my deck make it not control and something else? Thanks.

16 lands with an amulet and 2 manaliths work okay, any more and you won't get enough early game action to fight an enemy reliably.

I'd personally cut the pouncing cheeta, one aven reedstalker and a cunning survivor for an open fire, naga oracle and a Khenra Scrapper. I might also try to fit Reason to Believe in there as well, simply for some more ramp pay off. Even just 1 mana scry 3 followed by 5 mana mostly draw a card.
