Most of it looks good, but I really dislike how they've shifted the Southlands to be underneath Uthuan. Might be fun from a gameplay perspective, but we all know it's supposed to be south of Tilea and Estalia, with a larger connection to the rest of the world than that tiny spit of land. And why are the Knights of Origo their own faction?

Kind of annoying how they're shifting lore for the sake of gameplay. The Southlands could have been included as a last addition to the Old World, as a 'you can still see lizardmen if you want' sort of DLC. And I'd rather they changed Hung to Heng or Hong than Mung.

Why would it be? It takes a few extra turns to get anywhere, compared to how some of those areas look like they can be crossed in a turn? They don't have to be exactly like in the lore just on the same ratio, rather than Ulthuan being right next to Naggaroth, the Southlands, and Albion all at the same time.

What's wrong with the game's take on lore? The lore only serves as a backdrop for location, races, and hero and unit selection. It's not particularly important if a few things slide around. It's like looking for continuity errors in the background of a film. The time line and shifting of land masses isn't a big deal so long as the setting serves its purpose as a back drop to fantasy armies clashing.

I'm just mad that this is a change that they've made, a pretty major change, and they don't even give us the tools to fix it if we wanted to. This is something we have to accept even if we don't like it and know it's not in line with the lore. And the contrarian part of me is going to be frustrated to hear the praise that I know will be lavished on this map, and admittedly it gets most of the continents right even if they're in the wrong spots.

I like the variety of factions and races though, it looks like it'll avoid some of the "you only fight one or two races for the whole game" thing from TWW1.

That's been my biggest issue with TWW so far. I just realized how limiting CA is being with mods in the last thread and it's a huge bummer, I have huge gripes about the animations and I was dying for a mod to tone down on how extravagant a lot of the fighting animations looked and desynch all of the undead units' movements. Mods were the only thing that made Rome 2 playable for the first two years after release and even though TWW is a vastly superior game there are still some nit picks I have that could have easily been fixed with proper mod support.

That's probably the case for the super grand campaign they said they were going to release after launch. Not that I'm 100% on how well that will work since the current map and presumably the second are already so large that it gets cumbersome going for total annihalation.

I really get what you mean by the dynamism - the Bretonnian really looks like he's rushing forward and swinging his sword, and the Keeper of Secrets looks like it's leaping down. I don't know why the White Lion is swinging his axes around, but they feel like they have weight and heft.

I especially like the earlier piece because it gives a good look at Bretonnian armor, and the Keeeper of Secrets looks suspiciously elven or fae to me. And there's also the shield and skulls on the tree in the background that I've only just noticed.

Albion would be great as a kind of Warhammer Battle Royale, so you have a real excuse to have Ogres fighting Dark Elves or whatever.

I'd like to see a three-way Karak Eight Peaks campaign too, with most of the battles taking place underground. Unfortunately The King and the Warlord already exists so maybe they won't revisit that scenario.

I feel a little sad that I meet them so late into the campaign, unless I'm playing as a faction out to destroy them. In one Empire campaign, I wasted entire armies trying to save the last Norse Dwarf hold from annihilation, and all I could really get out of it is an alliance with a rump state. People don't change - I remember seeing people griping about the changes from Daggerfall to Morrowind, when now Morrowind is lauded as something like the best game in TES.

Still, it's interesting seeing some of the things he's mad about, especially since I have little to no experience with the previous edition of lore he thinks is best. The Old Ones have always been around when I've looked at Warhammer, Bretonnia as Bourbon France is ancient history to me (I wonder how he would've taken 6th ed's take on grimdarking up Bretonnia), Carroburg has always been a city-state to me and I don't know why he feels Sudenburg is so important, and he keeps complaining about Warhammer taking on a high fantasy feel when nowadays it's considered rather gritty compared to other settings. And I'm a little amused that he blamed pygmies disappearing on Burgerland sensibilities.

It's Sudenland, AKA Solland. Which was a genuine fuck-up, but it worked out ok in the end.

Warhammer 4th/5th was pretty high fantasy and cartoony, so I get the annoyance. 6th was a lot more balanced in that way, but by that point a lot of the damage had already been done to the original setting.

Okay, quick question, CA made a short story about a skink called yukannadozat ,who is not allowed to look into a telescope, that gets to talk with mazdamuni, but plot aside, during the talk mazdamundi makes a reference about a race that shouldn't get its hands over the plaque they were talking about: they were called the KHANX; in the same speech he referred to what I assume are the high elves as "island-serfs" or something like that, so I think they are not this race.

who are the KHANX?
another tidbit is that the story tells the old ones having a name for the cosmic entities that FORMED the great enemy, and said name getting shouted by a norscan raider; is the great enemy the chaos gods? if so which cosmic entities created the chaos gods? I'm getting confused here.

Worst part is, he has a point - even now, after Bretonnian lore has had decades to settle, it still feels rather bland compared to the Empire, at least in an WHRP sense. Only thing is, I have no idea if older Bretonnian lore is actually any good on that score. But he is still salty as fuck, and I do personally prefer the Arthurian Brets, with perhaps some vague Sun King undertones in their past. I know it's an independent magazine, but that does not feel like an unbiased article trying to find some good points, that's a fan being mad.

So what was 3rd and previous editions of Warhammer like? He makes it sound dark, and from what little I know of 5th edition it is a lot brighter and happier, but is 3rd and before dark in the 'smear grimdark on it and call it good' way that 6th onward was, or was it in a different way?

It isn't. It's just gay, boring just-pre-revolutionary France. It basically existed to be a butt monkey nation.

"Modern" Bretonnia did need more flavor even after Knights of the Grail, but it had an interesting and unique character despite being mythologically derivative and was no one's fool.

Every fucking spring Orion goes on a murder rampage through Bretonnia. They get raided by Dark Elves, Norscans and Sartosa pirates all the time. Beastmen fare just about as common in their woods as scary ass elves and murderhobo spirits. Orcs come out of nowhere all the time. Tomb Kings are likely after them more than the Empire thanks to all the questing knights who thought that golden cup looked nice. And unlike the Empire(I think) they aren't in denial about the Skaven.

Units charging a unit of Pikement to their front are subject to the Always Strikes Last special rule in the first round of close combat. Models aremd with pikes get a +1 S bonus on the turn they are charged by anythign except infantry, swarms and unique units. Khorne always has some level of martial honour even in recent stuff, too. Egil Styrbjorn, after nearly crushing Bretonnia entirely, had such a good duel against a grail knight that he decided to give the Bretonnians time to fix their shit just so he could come back for another, greater war. Most Khornates are all about the angry axe-murderer aspects of the deal though.

I got a feeling it'll be Setra and Khalida as the "good" tomb kings faction and you'll be fighting a civil war against Arkhan and one other LL, maybe Neferata? Norsca has already shown they're not afraid to mix things up for campaign factions, so playing as the "evil" TK factions provides RoRs that give access to the lore of vampires, or general VC special units.

That said, I'm not sure how you would balance the positives. One way could be that the good tomb keks have a moderate diplomacy bonus for other good factions while Arkhan's boys will get heavy diplo penalties with most factions except VCs.
