Reposting my idea for a CYOA:

XIX century CYOA. Ideally it's gotta be with a point system where you choose your country, how high-ranking you are, composition of your troops infantry/cavalry/artillery of different levels of regulars/elite. You also choose perks, not the straight up tactical genius, but rather general offence and defence, mastery of meele charges, maneuvering, use of terrain, logistics, making troops to march fater on longer distances, knowelage of local politics and culture to better read and manipulate your enemy etc. Maybe some peace time perks too like navigating noble intigue and politics of your own country. Also a choice of a war campaign or a region to be garrisoned at, how dangerous enemy is, how friendly is the locals, how hostile is the climate(comfy temperate, cold, tropical hell etc.) For example for Russia you can be stationed on North Caucasus where you are seen as the conqueror and locals are shady and uncooperative and you have gorilla bandit mountainer clans harrasing you while on South Caucasus climate is rather similar, but local Armenians are friendly as you are there to protect them from the Turk and you gotta fight off incursions of Ottoman regulars. There can be waifus too, some are loving, some are high status with titles, lands or wealthy dowry, high ranking commander's daughter for faster promotions etc.

After the Darkness destroyed everything and massive amount of people needed to come together properly recover the land and stop all factionalism this gave birth to the Imperial Armies (Who were originally militias trained by the Imperial Protectors to fight the Darkness and defend Constellia) who did all the government work: Assist in recovering towns, protect people from bandits, collect the taxes.

People just eventually came to accept the military and the Seat of the Imperial Thrones became the focus of the government when they previously didn't give much fuck and had their own circles to hang around.
