I have. He was called Memory's Fang and was basically a ghost story for an entire region. It was because he could quite literally feed on memory and read memories by eating brains. He also was enormous compared to most gnolls, large sized.

How do PCs learn how many hit dice an enemy has? Is it something that they should be informed about by a regular knowledge check to learn about a monster?

I need to know for animating undead.
>>
>>54861310
That actually happened to me not too long ago.

My character wished for an indestructible mug that filled with hot chocolate at will with a grumpy cat on the side. So far, we've used it to fill a ship's hold with so much hot cocoa that it sank, and used it to hold open a massive stone door in a deathtrap.

I never have so much fun as when I play a character that dumps wisdom.

The first quest of Ensoulment was more or less about this concept, though the party beat and rationally diplomanced their way through it impressively quickly. They fought a silver-scaled kobold hero called Silver Kyder. The rounds before he appeared were filled with occasional cheers of "YIP! YIP!! YIP!!!" which continued throughout the fight with him, and at one point he even used a custom maneuver to heal based off the number cheering for him. He was a kobold, but he was brave, powerful, a hero to The Dripping Maw kobolds (plus the dozen clans he'd subjugated under them), and even stood by his word after the party wrote up a treaty with him, which he easily could have betrayed. All around one of the most well received evil warlords I've seen a party encounter.

Ok, I'm making a envoy right now for a starfinder playtest and. . .

Has anyone figured out anything for this class to do in combat yet? Because right now it looks like their primary class feature is "spend an action to give a single enemy a minor debuff for 1 round" which is. . . awful.
>>

envoys are shit at everything, play operative instead.

Unless this guy is faking the name, that's a DSP dev outright stating they're doing SOMETHING. Hoping it's psionics, to be honest, because being an elan Ghost Operative would be my jam. Or a Forgeborn Armor Storm Soldier.
>>
>>54862053

Why? What about these apps wouldnt get them selected? Also, what would Anne be bringing to the table?
>>
Somebody explain how the occultist gains new spells. Do I get one new spell to each spell level every time I get a new implement school? It's so poorly written.
>>
>>54862160

Well, Rekina's one-dimensional, Fat Barry isn't lewd enough, Taera's an IDrive app and Anne's a vampire in a campaign that has a lot of open-air/wilderness stuff in it, I imagine.

As far as what Anne would bring to that group: she, like Rekina and Taera, is broken/used goods tier moe, and I wa sgoing for a theme there of that plus Fat Barry, because who doesn't love Fat Barry?
>>
>>54862137
> because being an elan Ghost Operative would be my jam. Or a Forgeborn Armor Storm Soldier.
None of that has anything to do with Psionics as a system though. Like there's nothing stopping you from taking an elf or something and saying it's an Elan and Forgeborn are just humans with some cyber limbs.
>>
>>54862204
I like Rekina, she seems fun. Also, she's one of the few apps who's actually using setting lore from the region.

>>
>>54862204
>and Anne's a vampire in a campaign that has a lot of open-air/wilderness stuff in it,
I have a solution for sunlight, though.
As soon as I recover my gear (which should be within book 1), I'll be immune to sunlight.
>>
did leakanon ever drop the first dead suns book?
>>
>>54862277
That's asinine. You're worse than the people who say "just wait a few more levels, then my build will start working"
>>
>>54862353
It's actually sane.
Book 1 is about misery and doesn't have outdoors combat until after gear is recovery.
All while my sunlight vulnerability is just a fat stack of penalties, not instant death - I can survive it, but will just be miserable in the process.
All in all, it's not a problem in this AP for me.

Legendary Gunslinger now has a BUNCH of archetypes! What's the consensus on them, /pfg/?
>>
>>54862231
The Elan thing is due to the resistance/repletion/resilience abilities. GM loves dropping spies into ambushes, those will help me get out.

Forgeborn, you have a point. Fluff is better than Androids, in my opinion, but that's simple.
>>
>>54862204
>Fat Barry isn't lewd enough
i think having a character who is actively resisting the lewd while still being a part of it makes things even more lewd.
>>
>>54862160
>Also, what would Anne be bringing to the table?
Bloodplay is a gift.
>>
>>54862136
But I want to play a Mechanic instead! I'm reading the CRB right now, the Envoy feels underwhelming to me and I haven't even seen the other classes to compare it to. To be fair, I didn't read through all of the expertise talents but I doubt any of them a great enough to salvage the class.

I figured the Envoy was Starfinder's look-alike to the Rogue, and then realized it doesn't have anything like sneak attack.
>>
>>54862437
That would be the Operative.
>>
>>54862437
Envoy is a really (REALLY) pale attempt at Bard. It didn't really work out from what I'm seeing.
>>
>>54861921
Why are they unable? Is this vampire-anon?
>>
>>54862353
>>54862367
I once played a PC with vulnerability to cold in Reign of Winter.

>>54862448
The Operative is the class everyone says is the most OP, right? Interesting that it would be the Starfinder version of Rogue that's the most OP.

>>54862456
Yeah, I got a bit of Bard vibe from it too, what with its focus on skills and being charismatic, but it doesn't quite fit that mold. Maybe I'm just saying that because it doesn't have something that feels like Bardic performance? That would be a little out of place for the tone of this game though, I think.
>>
>>54861903
What's wrong with barbarians?
>>
Am I the only one that finds it a bit odd that, as you look through character art, realize the Medieval women seem to usually have massive tits while the sci-fi ones got these small-chested, almost svelte figures?

Like shouldn't it be the other way around? Cup sizes have only been getting larger in the modern age, and a hearty handful in fantasy 1500s seems like it should be shockingly rare.
>>
>>54862053
Yeah you can also hide behind a chest high wall and point at your team mates to temporarily dispel status effects. I guess you could throw grenades too.

When I read "non-magic class who is good at social" and then now see the results I'm blown away that there's literally anything at all they can contribute to combat. I was expecting them to just hide and complain.
>>
>>54862506
Rage class feature =/= anger issues.
Rage is something you control and bring out when you need it. Anger issues lead to spousal abuse and a very unhappy relationship.
>>
>>54862507
No birth control run off in the water supply in an advanced space station's filtration systems I guess. Diet probably very different too, not really seeing any fat on anyone.
>>
>>54862507
It's probably because Medieval woman are considered "closer to nature" or more primitive than sci-fi women, just on account of the genre. It's like how full figures for women and large genitals for men were considered an indication of being less civilized in older times.

>>54862575
The Investigator manages to contribute to combat, doesn't it? Admittedly, I've never played one, but I've heard other people vouch that it's alright.
>>
>>54861546
>Charlotte Cladberry
>Aillee Nawari
>Luculeia Valso
>Evelin Racanu
I probably thought about this way to much. I feel these four girls would mesh well. They're the king of honest and energetic, if not a little naive, young women you'd like to root for and see succeed. Or get brutally raped and broken. Both good outcomes for this adventure.
>>

>Gone are the days of original settings or campaign premises

Just a couple days ago, people started putting shit together for some goofy-ass setting someone made out of a randomly-generated map. Now they've got stuff about twenty magic trees of eternity, and bug dragons that turn into real dragons if they eat enough other bug dragons and eternity sap, and an empire that worships the midnight sun in the north, and someone blew up the tree of death and now most of one continent is magic radiation, mutants, and undead.
>>
>>54863392
There were bamboozles shortly after RotJR with Molthune. But the thread doesn't care much for app memes anymore. I'd bet it's a combination of people's schedules mostly being full, a fatigue from the reviewanons' criticism and backstory wankery, and a shortage of GMs with more original ideas than "X AP but lood this time guise"

Seems like the best recommendation is spending feats on longarm proficiency, spec, and focus. Then you can pew pew while buffing and heal or remove debuffs. It's like a bard but without the neat tricks. At least you can heal some in combat (only other class that can heal others really) but with the way damage ramps up that ability becomes almost entirely useless at high levels.

The Ulfen have the right idea; you need to announce a Linnorm Hunt, have people observe the hunt, and then drag the head through the city you seek to rule.

Opir didn't do the process, and because of that he's a bitch.

Is it just me, or is the layout of the chapters in the Starfinder CRB pretty bad? Like, wouldn't it have made more sense to put the rules about how the game works before the classes and races? I know those are what people are most interested in, but how am I suppose to know what the bonuses and abilities are actually WORTH before I know how the system they're part of WORKS? They're ordered the way they are because:
1. It's easier to reference this way. Everyone will need to memorize the core rules for play, if not how specific options play out. Most people, including DMs will take some time to memorize how all the class options and feats play though since not everything needs to be learned to start running.
2. It makes character creation easier in cases of people learning as they play, especially keeping in mind that players introduced via session are usually going to be playing physically with a hardcover in front of them.
3. For people who pick up a book in a store and don't have the experience to understand the weight of mechanics, you want to frontload the book and distract them with the ideal behind the roleplaying game.

Is there any good mechanical reason for a solarian to *not* have their first level be in soldier (blitz)?

Such a one-level dip would confer Strength or Dexterity as a key ability score for Resolve Points, thereby allowing a solarian to safely keep Charisma at 10-11 (never use Black Hole and Supernova, ever). It would grant heavy armor proficiency, solving AC concerns, and the Blitz fighting style would grant +4 initiative and +10 speed.

This is an incredible deal that solves many of a solarian's woes; why pass it up?

From a custom setting my friend made. Long story short there's this MASSIVE dungeon that appeared one day a long time ago, buried super deep into the countryside that's constantly spewing out monsters and is difficult to fully contain since the structure is almost alive in how it shifts, resets puzzles, and has a seemingly endless supply of nasties at every level. An entire town was built around it, making pretty much everyone that lived there fabulously wealthy since it was an Adventurers hotspot and so long as brave souls were willing to go down and fight the horde they'd come back with oodles of treasures from the fallen creatures.

Later on our characters (including my Paladin of Iomede) found out that what basically happened is that this "dungeon" is what remains of an entire universe that was destroyed by our GM's God of Destruction that shows up in all of his games, only a small sliver of it surviving, squishing itself up into a much smaller space than what was actually left (thus causing the warping of space and time within its walls), and shoving the "splinter" into our world.

He's defeated creatures like pic related that came from the Dungeon, but in his mind the way to end it for good is to destroy the entire structure.

I've been asked to do a little bit of helping out in regards to creating a party of characters inspired by destiny. >>
>>54863692

>>
>>54867899
Nope, Vital Strike is essentially its own Standard Action, which PoW strikes also fill the role of. There MAY be strikes that replicate the functionality of Vital Strike at higher levels, but that's as close as you're gonna get.

http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/prestige-classes/other-paizo/e-h/heritor-knight/
>Whenever the heritor knight makes a melee attack as a standard action, she can apply the effects of Improved Vital Strike to that attack.
RAW, this lets you Vital Strike on a PoW strike.
>>
>>54867899
>>54868022
Well actually, Strikes are Standard Actions usually.

But, I think there is ONE way to get it to work. I think.

There is Gorum's Divine Fighting Technique, which lets you apply Vital Strike on the attack made at the end of a charge, and on some attacks of opportunity. This disconnects it from the attack action. So you also take Martial Charge or Seize the Opportunity, and you can apply vital strike to those attacks, despite them potentially being PoW Strikes.

>>54868038
This is kinda shaky, I feel. That's a really weird line and I'm not entirely sure what the purpose of it even was or what benefit it's supposed to convey.
>>
>>54868135
Seize the Opportunity doesn't let you make Martial Strikes on Attacks of Opportunity.
It only lets you Vital Strike on them.

Sorry, but I have enough experience under my belt, don't need pfg advices to know that's a bad idea, I played enough monks to know you need more than 20 point buy to be even relevant, he'll end with something like 14, 14, 14, 10, 14, 10 and then won't be able to hit shit because, again, he isn't an Unchained Monk.

The fact that the magic items will be scarce and hard to get what we want will mean he can't dump str in favour of Dex or Wis (for agile or guided AoMF). I'm thinking on recommend a Brawler instead so he can easy up on the stats thanks to light armor, shields and d10 HD.

Are there any official stats for Dire Boar animal companions? More specifically, Dire Boar cavalier mounts?

Orcs of Golarion explicitly states that orc druids can take them as companions, and in the entry for cavaliers they're mentioned in passing, but I can't find any crunch specifications.

If an official entry doesn't exists, are there any guidelines for adapting a monster entry for animal companions?

(If the above fails I guess I could just take the Beast Rider archetype and apply the 7th level size increase to a normal boar, but it seems kinda roundabout for a fairly iconic monstrous mount.)

Just checked Archives of Nethys, the PFSRD, and Orcs of Golarion, and the animal companion stats for a dire boar are nowhere to be found.

So I checked a few bestiaries, and I can say with a fair amount of confidence that the Dire Boar has never received an animal companion statblock.

I've written up a few animal companion entries before - mostly for magical beast companion options - so I do have a bit of familiarity with what you're supposed to do with this sort of thing. to make the dire boar entry, you basically just have to take the basic boar entry, make its starting strength 15 instead of 13, lower the constitution score from 15 to 13, and make it medium size base so that when it hits large at level 7, it gets +8 to strength, -2 to dex, and +4 to con.

Homebrewing is all we have for this, unfortunately, as they've apparently neglected to include dire boars in the game at all.

It's not because animal companions foloow different rules and their progression depends on your druid level
>>
>>54869489
Dire animal is a massive boost; way more massive than even the level 7 boost to large size for most animals. It takes the boar's already excellent natural armor for +6 to +11, would give it a stat loadout of 21/14/23/2/17/12, and increases its speed to that of a horse, at level 1. It's way too fucking much, and you'd know that if you actually read the damn entry.

Essentia got enough interest for what it put out, as did Intrigue (which is Golarion but otherwise custom campaign). I think the issue is not all GMs are good/experienced/have time enough to make and run a custom campaign, nevermind a full setting - and thus, they will be in the minority when it comes to games offered. Running APs, on the other hand, is like building IKEA furniture. Yeah, it can get nice and useful for everyone, but it's not gonna be as shiny and new and unique as a custom game. But not everyone is a carpenter.

As much as I prefer a physical book (mostly due to it being easier for me to use), I'm rather inclined towards picking up the Starfinder CRB pdf. Problem there would be editing it to apply any FAQs or corrections.

Anyone have a word/hint/sign/etc. that Paizo's going to drop a Day One errata/FAQ document for Starfinder CRB?
>>
>>54870002
No word on it, but if you're looking to pick it up I recommend waiting for the second printing first, and pirate it before then.
>>
>>54870000
According to Mark Seifter, he was only involved in the early stages of development, but then removed from the project and other people changed a lot.
E.g. initially he gave Operatives Skill Focus because Skill Focus was untyped and stacked with Operative's edge. After he was removed from development, Skill Focus was changed to Insight and stopped stacking.

>try to make a new monster
>Google is either Paizo, which has Monster Creation and Simple Monster Creation (which somehow is longer) on top of looking up actual monsters, or some random forums and sites that don't really help

how do I git gud
is there a comprehensive guide at this other than the one I found at Paizo

Has anyone ever made a low category size monster with high CR? Apparently the lowest three have "cap" on CR or something.

How stupid.

>>
>>54870183
For reference I was trying to import/convert a character into Pathfinder except they're so fucking small that they can fit in a teacup., but CR of 2 or lower doesn't feel like it would do justice for them, because they're definitely not a pushover.

What's the best order (read: least time consuming) to tackle stuff while creating a monster, anyway?

Honestly, the Advanced Race Guide has stats for creating your own racial profiles, use that combined with whatever NPC/PC class levels seem appropriate would be the most direct solution. You can even add a template to them if you are looking for some extra pzazz.

I'm planning on trying Pathfinder at Gencon. My only experience with RPGs has been a single session with 4e and a couple with 5e.
What am I in for?
Why do other RPG threads call you guys weebs and furries?
>>
>>54870396
>Why do other RPG threads call you guys weebs and furries?
One autist creates a lot of weeb/furry OP's, everyone is tired of fighting him.

>I'm planning on trying Pathfinder at Gencon. My only experience with RPGs has been a single session with 4e and a couple with 5e.
>What am I in for?
It's a different game, honestly. Rules are more a bit more convoluted than in either 4e or 5e, but shouldn't be too hard to approach in a gencon context. The class design seems fun, so I hope you enjoy it!
>>
>>54869779
Mine was a downtime session. Not the most exciting. Shopping for dresses for a feast and cute girl on girl bonding over paladinness and magic weapons.

Now I have 4 days to figure out how to present the right kind of clues for the coming man hunts through not!Venice
>>
>>54869649
I'd rather that than pretending there's no problem and never doing anything about it. Like what will happen with Solarian and Envoy.

Because this thread is filled with gaia tier weebs and furries. This place has an unnatural obsession with fucking kitsune/cat girls/wolfgirls/cute bullshit for some reason, but this general is honestly an aberration as far as player base goes.

Stick around for a few threads, you'll understand why this board fucking hates us.

As far as PF as a game goes, I honestly can not recommend it unless you heavily modify it with 3rd party stuff. If you want to run a basic bitch fantasy setting look elsewhere, as that's where 3.PF preforms at it's worst.
>>
My DM is letting everyone make their own character race using ARG 15 RP

What insane things can I make?
>>
>>54870719
>What insane things can I make?
Don't. Being an ass towards your DM for allowing nice things is rude.
>>
I have a PC who wants to play what is basically an elf cowboy, with roping/lassoing from a mount as his primary attack style. Is that remotely workable past early levels?
>>
>>54870706
It's also somewhat prevalent on roll20, though I don't know if it's specific to the PF userbase there.
>>
>>54870778
>Is that remotely workable past early levels?
No.
>>
I want to do duo apps, but the app circus means that's a garunteed rejection. Have both halves of a duo ever gotten in?

Because I really want to play a pair of idols, one a normal elf the other a Drow, only one is pure, Russian roulette on which one it is.

And you know, have a campaign where that makes sense as half the party
>>
>>54870719
Insane how exactly
>>
>>54871081
>Have both halves of a duo ever gotten in?
RotJR, both groups essentially did.
>>
>>54871189
The FotJR duo doesn't count since they were accepted before the app circus even kicked off due to being friends of the DM. I can't think of any actual duo apps from SotJR.
>>
>>54871234
I consider Onryou and Casimir basically one since the player specifically requested in and Saturday was more or less built around Onryou. But it's fair if you don't count that one.
>>
>>54871081
Please tell me you play it straight, and the Elf's actually the pure one. Everyone is going to expect the Drow to be the virgin because modern society is obsessed with subversion.

>>
>>54871366
A Drow who left Drow society is more likely to take to the host culture and thus actually makes more sense to be the pure one while the one raised there would want to rebel.

Depends on the society though.
>>
>>54871435
Why would a Drow take to their host culture when Drow society is pretty aggressive in it's dominance? In fact, the information we have on Apostae suggests the Drow are trying very hard to increase their population, which suggests the Drow girl would be expected to have some kids before even thinking of getting off-world.

Forlorn Elf would adhere to their host culture, as you said. They're seen as dead to Sovyrian society, and mourned as such.

>>
>>54871471
It's almost like people are individuals and don't all perfectly fit into what they're host culture asks or expects of them. Every society has it's "deviants". Weeaboo's from pretty every culture, ethnicity, and walk of life pop up pretty regularly. It's not impossible for someone to look somewhere else and say "those people have the right idea" even if their view on what "those people" practice is warped or flawed.
>>

It was fair game
>>
>>54871509

>>
>>54871502
See, I agree that people are individuals and you could certainly find a pure waifu Drow because even a planet of asshole hyper-capitalists will have outliers... But an Idol? A big ole Celebrity girl? That's a little much to me...

Unless her unique childhood and upbringing is what made her such a fascinating media icon to begin with.

So I know everyone usually makes people change alignment towards Evil, but have you ever forced an alignment change to Good?

>Been GMing my party for a while
>Reaching 10th levels
>Decide to offer my party one (1) free Wish after rolling high on the encounter table right after a pretty heroic encounter
>Party, in-RP, comes to their own conclusion that they should use the wish to restore to life a village that was mostly decimated, even if they've never even been to the village, that I had mentioned it offhandedly
>Grant them their wish, telling them their alignments have now changed one step towards Good for the selflessness of their act
>Everyone was edgy TN or CN before that to not get fucked by spells and effects fucking up Good
>BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor.jpg

I'm playing in an all-Goblin fuckery campaign. I started out as a CN Goblin raised by humans who was slowly learning how to be a Goblin. I attack one armed guard in a forest ambush and my GM tells me to shift to evil. Meanwhile, another player who is NE gives food to the Goblin tribe's dwarven slave out of nothing but compassion and everyone looks at me sideways when I suggest that he should probably change to true neutral.

I don't think they will, it was mostly consentual and everyone agreed it was a fair call frankly. I know my players, I've been GMing them for over a year now. This kinda was the logical conclusion of all the things they've done so far, however. It was kinda obvious everyone was neutral for the mechanical benefits at one point.

The only event is the character creation that we've redone the past couple of times.

My players haven't emailed me back with their new choices, so I expect to do more of it. Some of it might be my fault for using an unusual ruleset: Gestalt, 25 PB, PoW, Psionics, Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting.

Every old gestalt character they abandon gets redone as a single classed NPC that they will fight later.

Gaia-tier is troublesome, but people who like anime/are furries in general don't bother me, so long as they have the social and self awareness to know when and when not to display it.
Which is, sadly, something many people could learn.

I love cute bullshit, but know when to keep it under wraps. While I would like to make a catgrill/kitsune/etc as a character, I'd only do so when I've first proven myself to a group and they're comfortable that I'm not going to be a That Guy.

>>54871881
That's a pretty mild example. The rest of the Drow talk going on is probably worse.

That aside, I've been looking at the events for PF at Gencon and it seems every module gives you a pre-gen character at a certain level range to do a quick 90 minutes-2 hour mission.
Seems to be a good way to get one's feet wet, but I'd also like to find a group that runs a fresh campaign for like 4-5 hours as a sample to a 'real' experience.

If you want to take advantage of your natural attacks either go
Extra skinwalker trait, Barbarian (animal fury, beast totem powers)
or
Extra skinwalker trait, Bloodrager (Abyssal bloodline9, Trait: Adopted (Orc): Toothy
or
Alchemist (Feral mutagen)

In all these ways you get 6 natural attacks (bite, gore, claw, claw, hoof, hoof)
>>
>>54872204
Fuck, last one (the alchemist) also needs Extra skinwalker trait

So I made a character in a hurry for a first session and now I regret it. The problem is:

>it's the second time this happened, with the same DM

Should I just grow some balls? Would you allow me to change my character if you were the DM?
