Corrupted Versions of Palatine Blades and Phoenix Termies

Lucius the Eternal used to be a palatine Blade.
Could go with a Slaanesh Melee unit with Whip and Sword that are corrupted Palatine Blades

Could give the Phoenix Termies One-Handed Sonicblaster/Blastmaster

Noise-Bikers with back mounted Doom-Sirens

Cultists-equivalents that are running around with Whips and Daggers that can attack once more after they died

Daemonette Support Units in the style of Baroque masked courtesans with Violins and Harps

What are some good units to take advantage of the Renegade Trait, where you can advance and charge in the same turn?

I'm kicking around a list with bikers, a couple of Fist+Scourge Helbrute and a Terminator Sorc, with the idea of rushing up the board, deep striking in the sorc next to either a Helbrute or the Bikers depending on who needs Warptime more (normally the brute I imagine) and going for first turn charges.

Most other units seem like they'd be better off in a transport or deep striking themselves.

BackMounted Doom Sirens came to mind when I was trying to build Chaos bikers with BikeBolter+ChainSword+Flamer but dont want them to drive without handlebars like idiots.

Not everything Emperors Children should be NOISE I'd really like the see Palatine Blades come back slightly more deranged with Whips instead of Pistols to incooperate their Heresy Fluff with their old fluff, which would make sense when Fulgrim comes back to reorganize his split legion

Way to show how herd mentality can affect people's judgement. ASF in 8th edition on an elite melee army is near useless because combat won't last more than one round anyway. I mean, they are not the worst Legion (see IW and WB) but they are far from being good. If you want a close combat army, I would pick instead WE or the generic renegades every day of the week instead of ECs.

Comes out to maximum 24 S6 AP-3 hits per 3 count squad, maximum 66 for the 10 count including soulburst bonus shooting phase of which there are plenty of min units to provide it on death. Yvraine camps back field with a unit of scourges for 8 dark lance shots from one unit with free soulburst, 4 from the other.

Pretty new to the whole 40k thing but I'm pretty sure at this point I want a knight and I had a few questions before I drop the dosh.
What is the significance of the crest mounted on the right chest/shoulder area?
The battle cannon weapon includes a stubber, can I chose to mount it on the chest opposite the standard stubber?
Which kit should I be looking for if I wanted all the buildable options?
Are there any books/source material I should read to learn more about these beautiful things?

So, what do we know about the schedule post-DG?

We know there will be six more codexes by the end of the year.

Strong hints that they will include AdMech and Astra Mililitarum and not include orks, necrons or dark eldar.

Chaos Daemons and/or Daemons of Nurgle seems likely after DG, with new GUO and possibly giant beast thing.

Next Primarch seems likely to be Russ or Jonson, arriving around January 2018. So unlikely to have SW or DA before then. That leaves Blood Angels as the only remaining loyalist marines who could appear this year.

Thousand Sons must be soon, since they aren't in C:CSM. Presumably a no-model release.

There have been rumours of a new army, possibly linked to the eagle-skull image which has been seen around. Could be a new regiment of guard, possibly a separate codex like MT. If so, I'd guess Penal Battalions as their own army, but could be officio prefectus (remember commissar cadet squads?) or militarum auxilla (imperial beastmen?). Or it might be the Shadow War: Necromunda logo, which could mean necromundan guard and/or arbites as a new army.

Finally, we have the Ynarri, who are a major force both on the tabletop and in the background but haven't had a codex of their own at all. It seems likely that GW is going to want to give them a book with some more background.

So, putting all that together, seems like a likely schedule is...

Death Guard
Chaos Daemons
Astra Militarum
Ynarri
Thousand Sons
Adeptus Mechanicus

>...helps to ensure your line troops are not at a disadvantage compared to those factions that are lucky enough to have a codex already.

Really late on this, but can anyone explain how the new rule can possibly be interpreted as a bonus for armies without a codex? Seems like a straight buff to elite armies (i.e. space marines) and anyone with strong troops (i.e. tyranids and guard) so it helps every army they have released a codex for and makes the strongest armies even stronger.

Also

>the current feeling is that the present method is a bit too reliable, and some players are developing armies and strategies to exploit this. We’ve taken this feedback on board and changed how you determine who gets the first turn in every one of the new matched play missions

Serpent Shield helps make Serpents very durable for their points and the change to twin weapons basically doubled their firepower. There isn't that big a difference between a Falcon and a Serpent offensively these days and the Serpent is tougher and provides transport as well. Plus the Mortal Wound ability is handy for finishing off key targets later in the game.

You only get soulburst when one of your own units gets wiped. Good luck having your WG in range waiting for that to happen
>>
>>54821904
Here's what I think. Call it a gut instinct/playing it safe

>Chaos Daemons
50/50. It's either this or Nids in my mind.
>Astra Militarum
Very likely.
>Ynnari
Too niche. We're more likely to see Craftworlds before Ynnari.
>Thousand Sons
Probably not. We're more likely to see a loyalist subfaction before we see TSons so soon. Especially if they release chaos daemons. Still, it could go either way.
>Adeptus Mechanicus
50/50. It could go either way with this one.

That leaves the last release. If we look at the months remaining - October, November and December - that's 3 months to release 6 books. This means all the codexes will likely get a no model release. Safe bets would be Blood Angels, Space Wolves or Dark Angels since they all have solid lines already and can slot in easy peasy.

Depends on what you want to do and if you plan on playing them as Ynnari in the future. If Ynnari is on the cards, avoid the Flesh Coven dudes. Now, if you're going pure DE, some solid units to consider are...

Elites
Incubi, Mandrakes and Wracks are all solid choices. Incubi for pure melee, especially if you bring Drazhar. Mandrakes are great harassing units and Wracks can be built for melee or provide some pinging ability with the ossefactor. Grots are cute, but not as good as they could have been this edition. Also finecast models.

Fast Attack
Everything here is solid. Scourges are solid for pinpoint damage. Bonus points if they live past the turn they dropped though. Hellions are actually not so bad as skirmishers. Reavers you know. Of the two planes, the Razorwing is better IMO.

Heavy Support
Ravagers are great. Talos pain engines are amazing. Talos pain engines + haemonculus or urien is a ball of death that is pretty hard to remove. Doubly so if you have some cronos pain engines supporting.

Hey, Overlords are great. Your Will be Done is amazing on lychguards or warrior/immortal blobs. Zahndrekh is better than he was last edition and Obyron still has a cool movement trick to do with Zahndrekh. The other Necron special characters all got buffed with the questionable cases of Orikan and Imotekh. Anrakyr especially makes a Necron melee army happen, a thing that was pretty much never a thing in the past edition. The sour note is the crypteks though. 3" on the +1 to reanimate is balls.

I don't think Drazhar can be counted on as being solid. He's only good if you bring Incubi and even then he's a half assed buff. If he buffed their hit and wound rolls, that would be amazing but he doesn't so there's that.

As a beatstick he is also lacking. If he did 2 damage on his two handed klaive, that would be forgivable. But as it stands he is only great for mincing through chaff and falls short of killing big scary things. For those you're better off with regular incubi squads and at that point you're just paying for Drazhar as a glorified buff bot that only buffs one unit type. So no, I won't call him solid under morst circumstances.

On the subject of it being set in the dark imperium, it doesn't say "set in the dark imperium era" it says in the dark imperium itself, so they may be doing it to open up narrative possibilities that don't work in the normal imperium like xenos in human parties or whatever. Alright, quick question. How do the Indexes and the new codexes interact and overlap? For example, if I want to take Roboute Guilliman, can I choose which I use? Different rules govern the in-codex choices. For example, by the Space Marine codex rules, any named character that is your warlord must take their chapter-specific warlord trait. So Roboute must take the Ultramarine warlord trait. Can you instead say he is coming out of the Index and give him the 6+ feel no pain warlord trait instead? How does that work?

Craftworlds aren't. My Eldar buddy was really struggling so I said I'd take a look at his list and Jesus their Troops are bad. Dire Avengers *have* to be a mistake, they're grossly overpriced past the point of comedy; Rangers are useful, but +2 to cover isn't what it was and they're also crazy expensive compared to everyone else's sniper units; Guardians are just about useable, and when they shoot they do a surprising amount of damage, but 12" range is a real killer.

Codex overrides index. Index rules are only usable if it is not in the codex. That's the official stance for matched play. You're free to do whatever you want outside of that.

>>54823170
Codex replaces index. You can use any index entries that are not in the codex alongside stuff from the codex, but you don't get to pick which version to use for the codex units. You must use the most recent datasheet for each unit.

Sigismund is Rogal Dorn's most accomplished swordsman and the Emperor's Champion, he was undefeated during the Great Crusade and the Emperor tasked him with going out of the Imperial Palace and seek the champions of chaos and fucking kill them all. So he was given armor and weapons and he went alone into the lines of the legions of Horus and came back alive.

After the Heresy Sigismund would lead the Black Templars, a chapter bent on hatred of the traitor and always on the attack which is why its fitting for him to be at the gate of the eye waiting for the traitor to eventually get out.

If you're thinking that all of those have limbs of some form, well, tyranids having 6 limbs is a purposeful thing, every nid model will be designed with 6 limbs.

I just heard about Primaris Space Marines and they look really neat. And modern, as if Mankind has started to produce new tech again, hover tanks, better genetics and weapons.

I like the video games and the novels a lot and wanted to know what do you think since you are more hardcore 40K fans.

>Snake/worm like burrowing Tyranids when?

>Mawloc is a huge, worm-like Tyranid organism that acts as an outrider for a Tyranid swarm. They are burrowing creatures that travel deep underground to bypass enemy defences and then emerge behind enemy lines to run rampant through supply lines, command posts, or artillery batteries, only to vanish back underground to evade retaliation.

So to answer your question of when? About 7 years ago.

They look and play like how marines should have always been
>>

>>54824353
Is there a reason given for that though? I understand it from a design perspective but in terms of the lore isn't there a big emphasis on their ability to evolve?
>>54824345
Legs have remerged in some snakes (very rare) because they still have the gene for limbs, but they are typically defined as not having them.
>>
>>54824440
Unfortunately they lack any semblance of customization

Which it was, right up until the scene where Khayon confronted it and it was revealed to be his stronk sister, despite what it claimed.

Considering everyone who's serious about Marinewankery is already acquainted with a lack of options thanks to 30k, that's not really a problem.

Yeah, that's pretty true to an extent. I play SoH and when I look at the new Black Legion rules I cry so hard. At least Abaddon is useable now...

The lore reason is that, fundamentally, the tyranid species has 6 limbs. As for ability to evolve, are you really saying there aren't major differences between a termagant/warrior/carnifex/zoanthrope/harpy/exocrine/haruspex/etc.?
>>
>>54824521
That's mostly just the HQs now, all the non-heroes have 2-3 options for their main guns and with how transports work now, it's pretty easy to put a 5 man intercessor squad and a 5 man hellblaster squad in a repulsor for a impromptu primaris tactical squad.

Hard to believe that in 13 years or so she'll be getting stuffed in every hole on a daily basis by greasy dudes who only see her as a piece of meat.

Life uh, finds a way.

>fundamentally, the Tyranids species has six limbs
What the fuck how can someone be this wrong. There is no "tyranids species", every unit is a different genus let alone species. There are plenty of tyranids that don't have six limbs: see all their plants, microbes, spores, bioships, etc.

Most of the combat strains have six limbs because it just happens to be the most efficient. More limbs requires more brainpower to operate, but any less reduces mobility and combat capability. Six is the biological sweet spot.

I think it's just a fundamental part of Tyranid biology. Like bilateral symmetry in most earth species.
>>
>>54824303
Tyranids ALL have 6 limbs, and overlapping plating, it's their unifying feature. go ahead, browse the GW catalog.
Everything from Gaunts to Hierophants have six limbs. gaunts have two legs, and four arms, raveners and their ilk have six arms, Tyrants have two legs, and four arms or a pair of wings, a pair of arms, and a pair of atrophied legs.
Even the FW rippers have six limbs.
>>
>>54824818
Tyranids don't have anything fundamental to their biology. They make their organisms the way they do because it's been tested and proven to be the most efficient and there's no reason to change it.
>>
>>54824775
>species
Alright, I used the wrong biological term, calm your autism. It was obvious what I meant.
>>
>>54824847
OK, not that anon, but it's because the Tyranids all follow the design principle of overlapping armour plates over an exoskeleton, and six limbs. That is the design choice and GW probably aren't going to change it any time soon. if you want a giant snake tyranid with no limbs, buy a Mawloc/Trygon, and don't put the arms on it.

>>54824820
